01:12 AM MacGalempsy: yo
01:14 AM Crom: sorry no bottle of rum... so no ho
02:07 AM IchGucksLive: Morning from Germany
02:14 AM IchGucksLive: off to garden
02:20 AM Deejay: moin
05:00 AM XXCoder: heys
05:19 AM jthornton: morning
05:20 AM XXCoder: hey jt
05:21 AM jthornton: whats' up this morning
05:22 AM XXCoder: not much. you?
05:22 AM jthornton: just waking up
05:23 AM gonzo_: cheers for the info yesterday on my VFD/RCD issue
05:24 AM gonzo_: turned out to be finger trouble/confusing pinout diagram in the handbook
05:24 AM gonzo_: found the correct pinouts on the silkscreen when I opened it up to snip une suppression caps out
05:25 AM gonzo_: (they were hidden by plastic casing which had the wrong markings on)
05:32 AM archivist: now you need isolated noise suppression
05:48 AM gonzo_: a fat old schaffner filter shoudl provide
05:48 AM archivist: some of those have ground coupled caps
05:49 AM XXCoder: doh https://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/aAwLEYd_700b.jpg
05:49 AM Loetmichel: gonzo_: thats how MY chinese VFD came from the factory...
05:54 AM Loetmichel: ... swith a schaffner filter dangling by its wires... -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=15256&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
05:54 AM Loetmichel: right side of the machine, in the background
06:00 AM gonzo_: that's a good probability. But Hopefully the combined earth I will not be high.....
06:06 AM XXCoder: rammed earth
06:34 AM pink_vampire: gooood morning linuxcnc
06:34 AM XXCoder: goood night pink_vampire
06:34 AM XXCoder: hows things
06:37 AM pink_vampire: yestarday we took the water bar to a friend of us that have the equipment to deal with refrigerants' and he release all the gas from it
06:38 AM XXCoder: hopefully into container?
06:38 AM XXCoder: expecially if its freon type
06:39 AM pink_vampire: it was r134a, that is safe
06:39 AM XXCoder: thats good, freon is very bad for ozone
06:39 AM pink_vampire: he use some vacuum thing
06:41 AM XXCoder: so whats your plan with water bar?
06:41 AM XXCoder: whats water bar anyway
06:41 AM XXCoder: most results seem to be bar of some kind
06:42 AM pink_vampire: water cooler
06:42 AM XXCoder: ahh
06:42 AM XXCoder: so fixing it or stripping it for parts?
06:43 AM pink_vampire: I want to make mini silent air compressor / vacuum pump.
07:15 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: ^
07:15 AM XXCoder: cool :)
07:16 AM pink_vampire: do you have any knowledge about compressors?
07:17 AM XXCoder: not much
07:19 AM * archivist points at the internet
07:20 AM pink_vampire: what it the type of fittings I need to use?
07:21 AM gonzo_: I've used fridge pumps for drawing vacuum to do resin impregnation of wood
07:22 AM pink_vampire: gonzo_: do you think I can use it and a vacuum / compressor unit?
07:23 AM archivist: this depends on volume you want
07:27 AM gonzo_: they don't draw much vol, but mine got down to ~10mbar absolute
07:27 AM gonzo_: though at that point it was boiling the resin solvent off, so it wasn't doing that badly
07:28 AM gonzo_: I've been told that people use them as compressors for intricate grit blast (glass etching) and air spray pens for artwork
07:30 AM pink_vampire: I'm trying to figure out what is the scfm for the unit I have
07:32 AM pink_vampire: PW2.0DV
07:33 AM pink_vampire: http://www.transtech-co.jp/electronics/PWVD_1.pdf
07:34 AM X704 is now known as tiwake
09:07 AM jthornton: nice a guy placed an order on the 14th and PayPal just notified me this morning
10:00 AM pink_vampire: jthornton: that is a lot of time
10:04 AM Roguish: pink_vampire: hello. hey what mill do you have? is it modified, upgraded?
10:04 AM pink_vampire: G0704
10:05 AM pink_vampire: Roguish: did you saw the last part?
10:05 AM Roguish: upgraded? ball screws and all?
10:06 AM Roguish: yes, I think I have seen some of your parts.
10:07 AM pink_vampire: yeah, but it is not preloaded screws,
10:07 AM pink_vampire: I want to also upgrade the rails for the Z axis, and get better ballscrew for the Z axis
10:08 AM Roguish: do you work in inches or millimeters?
10:08 AM pink_vampire: but with the right settings I can get very nice finish
10:09 AM pink_vampire: the machine is metric (easy to read) but the tools are metric and inch
10:10 AM Roguish: ok. what precision can you get? 1.0mm 0.10mm 0.01mm or what
10:11 AM Roguish: x and y
10:11 AM pink_vampire: very depends
10:16 AM pink_vampire: for rough cuts I'm working conventional. and I know I push the end mill hard some time, and the collom of the machine like to flex, so to manage that, i'm taking lite finish climb cut just to get nice surface finish and remove the deflection error.
10:19 AM pink_vampire: the cuts on the X Y are in the range on 0.01-0.02 mm error, on the Z it about 0.05 or less, but with smart code you can lock the gib when it is down and get it dead on.
10:19 AM pink_vampire: Roguish: ^
10:30 AM Roguish: pink_vampire: thanks. I am considering a benchtop mill. not sure which one yet. I do not want to have to add extra money like ballscrews unless I have to. but I need at least .01mm.
10:31 AM pink_vampire: what materials/
10:31 AM pink_vampire: ?
10:32 AM Roguish: mainly aluminum, but titanium and stainless also.
10:33 AM archivist: .01 mm is a bit unrealistic for the average benchtop mill
10:33 AM pink_vampire: what size of endmills?
10:34 AM pink_vampire: what work area?
10:34 AM archivist: most people cannot measure to that accuracy
10:34 AM pink_vampire: http://i.imgur.com/sPqfEFq.png
10:35 AM pink_vampire: http://i.imgur.com/cbGNhB6.png
10:35 AM pink_vampire: 3d machining ^
10:35 AM sync: Roguish: there is no way to reliably hit that accuracy without proper ballscrews
10:36 AM FinboySlick: pink_vampire: Why did you 3d-machine a boob?
10:36 AM FinboySlick: They should come in pair.
10:36 AM archivist: and a reasonably stiff machine
10:36 AM Roguish: sync: that's what I figure, but the rest of the machine must be up to it also. like stiffness and mass.
10:37 AM pink_vampire: FinboySlick: it was a gift / joke.
10:38 AM pink_vampire: what size of parts you are going to machine?
10:40 AM Roguish: smallish. under 10x10x 4 inches.
10:40 AM pink_vampire: Roguish: 3d machined? or 2d 2.5d?
10:41 AM Roguish: 3d. run with Lcnc
10:42 AM Roguish: see this one: http://www.machinetoolonline.com/PM-932M.html
10:43 AM Roguish: or this one: http://boltontool.com/Lathes/milling-machine/milling-machine-ZX45?gclid=CK6q6recz9QCFQiRfgodFr4AOA
10:43 AM sync: they all are the same machine
10:43 AM pink_vampire: so you need very high speed spindle, 30K and up, very good rails, and very good screws.
10:43 AM sync: be prepared to scrape the gibs and slideways briefly
10:44 AM sync: adding a plate to the back of the column helps a lot with stiffness
10:44 AM Roguish: sync: where do you think they originate? what company?
10:44 AM sync: also putting DHW under the column mount
10:44 AM pink_vampire: you need to forgot about dovetails rails machines, and lead screw.
10:44 AM sync: somewhere in china
10:45 AM Roguish: what is 'DHW'
10:45 AM sync: a product name
10:46 AM sync: it's an epoxy used in machine building to make mounting surfaces and the like
10:46 AM archivist: Roguish, get a real machine rather than chinese for accuracy
10:46 AM pink_vampire: get a real cnc machine like the MDX-540
10:46 AM Roguish: archivist: suggestion?
10:47 AM pink_vampire: MDX-540
10:47 AM archivist: Roguish, depends where you are and what is available
10:47 AM pink_vampire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejLVRmp5mck
10:47 AM Roguish: SF area.
10:48 AM archivist: then a used cnc bridgeport
10:48 AM Roguish: mdx-540 at $200k+ for that I can get a good condition Haas toolroom mill
10:49 AM pink_vampire: mdx-540 is wayyyy cheaper
10:50 AM pink_vampire: Roguish: https://www.rolanddga.com/products/3d/mdx-540-benchtop-milling-machine
10:51 AM pink_vampire: https://www.rolanddga.com/products/3d/mdx-40a-benchtop-cnc-mill
10:51 AM pink_vampire: that one even cheaper
10:51 AM MrHindsight: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bfs/6178473625.html
10:52 AM Roguish: https://imagebin.ca/v/3Qkgaaf13QWV
10:52 AM pink_vampire: Roguish: https://www.rolanddga.com/products/3d/mdx-40a-benchtop-cnc-mill
10:52 AM pink_vampire: this is smaller machine that cost about 8K
10:53 AM MrHindsight: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/6151816871.html
10:53 AM MrHindsight: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/tls/6183381993.html
10:54 AM Roguish: MrHindsight: thanks. I have a BP Series II in the shop. Linuxcnc running. just too big. I want something smaller
10:54 AM Roguish: series II == 5500 pounds
10:55 AM pink_vampire: Mr you cant hold 0.01 on a BP in a cnc with out heavy convention, ans you can't use very very small end mills. the spindle is too slow.
10:56 AM MrHindsight: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/6169597473.html
10:56 AM pink_vampire: Roguish: maybe small dental mill will work for you.
10:57 AM Roguish: maybe. just thinking and planning right now. I don't mind replacing lead screws with ball screws, I just don't want to have to scrape ways.
10:57 AM MrHindsight: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/tls/6183534464.html
10:57 AM Roguish: and I need a fast spindle, >10k rpm
10:57 AM MrHindsight: $200 missing the table
10:58 AM pink_vampire: for 3d machining you need 30K and up
10:58 AM MrHindsight: that benchtop bolton doesn't have a 10k rpm spindle
10:58 AM pink_vampire: maybe the pocket nc
10:58 AM Roguish: anyway. thanks all for the discussion. gotta get some work done now. thanks. bbl
10:58 AM MrHindsight: I'd ebay it together
10:59 AM pink_vampire: it is 5 axis bench top machine it cost about 4.5K
10:59 AM MrHindsight: I rarely see a small 10k rpm nenchtop lathe
10:59 AM pink_vampire: MrHindsight: http://www.pocketnc.com/pocketnc/pocket-nc
10:59 AM MrHindsight: routers yes
11:00 AM MrHindsight: lathe/mill
11:01 AM roycroft: i don't think i've ever seen a 10k rpm lathe
11:02 AM pink_vampire: maybe swiss machine?
11:02 AM roycroft: i suppose if you're turning parts that are 2mm in diameter it would be appropriate
11:15 AM Simonious: https://pastebin.com/8i5j5DUD What is going on here?
11:16 AM Simonious: I wish I used this thing daily, this once in a while thing just makes it harder.
11:17 AM Simonious: eh, found it
11:17 AM Simonious: good
11:58 AM MrHindsight: https://phys.org/news/2017-06-problem-wheeled-suitcases.html
11:59 AM MrHindsight: never had this problem and I've had 70lbs of cnc parts in my carry on with wheels
12:03 PM MrHindsight: what suitcases have wheels that closely spaced?
12:04 PM DaViruz: and that much mass outside the wheel base
12:04 PM DaViruz: also the text mentions that speeding up limits the oscillation, but the video demo seems to show that a faster speed makes it much more sensitive to small disturbances
12:12 PM JT-Shop: lol one of gimps new image templates is Toilet Paper!
12:18 PM MrHindsight: does it output g-code for repraps?
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: hi from Germany
12:25 PM SpeedEvil: JT-Shop: I was actually looking for a service to (moderately inexpensively) print custom TP rolls.
12:29 PM howto: IchGucksLive hi
12:30 PM JT-Shop: that would be cool
12:32 PM LeelooMinai: Related: yesterday I found that you can buy toilet paper in... tablets...
12:34 PM LeelooMinai: Apparently it's a thing for "prepper" guys. The tablets are compressed and dried cellulose sheet and it will expand if you put some water on it:)
12:41 PM archivist: but then its soggy and you get sticky fingers
12:41 PM LeelooMinai: The guy claimed it works even better:p
12:42 PM LeelooMinai: He was also mumbling something about "reusable", but that was the point I closed the video.
12:42 PM archivist: the Romans had it right 2000 years ago, bunch of leaves on eht end of a stick
12:43 PM LeelooMinai: Poison Ivy
12:43 PM FinboySlick: If there's ever a civilization collapse and I survive, I'm pretty sure the tax code will be my firs TP alternative ;)
12:44 PM LeelooMinai: FinboySlick: What do you mean "if" - it has already started:)
12:44 PM FinboySlick: LeelooMinai: And technically, I can already do it.
12:45 PM FinboySlick: But I prefer charmin ultra ;)
12:45 PM FinboySlick: So by that measure, civilization will truly have collapsed when I can no longer buy Charmin Ultra.
12:46 PM LeelooMinai: "too expensive"
12:46 PM LeelooMinai: I remember toilet paper from 80s in Poland - you could mistake it for sandpaper:)
12:47 PM FinboySlick: Reminds me of a joke...
12:50 PM FinboySlick: Long time ago, chief Wanata from the northern tribes went down to 'The Bay' to buy toilet paper for his tribe. Sales person says: "Sure chief. we have White Swan for 20 bucks a crate." Chief replies: "Too expensive." "Alright," replies the clerk, "There's some Cottonel on sale for 15 bucks a crate." Chief once again replies: "Too expensive."
12:50 PM pink_vampire: point?
12:52 PM archivist: in the UK we had this at school http://wisewebwoman.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/leather-arse-or-how-i-survived-izal.html
12:52 PM LeelooMinai: FinboySlick: That's the end? :)
12:53 PM FinboySlick: So the clerk suggests, "Well, there's the no-name paper that we have for 10 bucks a crate." Chief answers: "Alright, we take that."
12:53 PM pink_vampire: LeelooMinai:
12:53 PM pink_vampire: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v1_0_hZMmlM/UnKFiOKelFI/AAAAAAAAGOI/F_-yyYCu-_4/s1600/badgersarsetoilettissue.jpg
12:53 PM FinboySlick: (sorry, phone call)
12:53 PM pink_vampire: lol!
12:53 PM LeelooMinai: ...
12:54 PM FinboySlick: A week later, chief returns, "We found name for toilet paper."
12:54 PM LeelooMinai: ...!
12:54 PM FinboySlick: "John Wayne."
12:54 PM FinboySlick: "Why is that?" asks the clerk
12:54 PM FinboySlick: "Because he's rough. Because he's tough and because he takes no crap from indians."
12:55 PM LeelooMinai: FinboySlick: At this point it could be the best joke in the world and you would get tomatos thrown at you:p
12:56 PM MrHindsight: we didn't have toilet paper or doors on the stalls when we went to school
12:56 PM FinboySlick: I sort of killed the timing, especially through text.
12:57 PM MrHindsight: archivist: we only had hand towels similar to yours, but in sheets
12:57 PM MrHindsight: it might have been cardboard
12:57 PM LeelooMinai: MrHindsight: And the "school" was a tarp hold by 4 sticks? :)
12:57 PM FinboySlick: Sticks!?! The opulence!
12:58 PM archivist: trouble with izal is it would fold to sharp points to dig your rear end
01:00 PM LeelooMinai: You did not read bullet points for it. The last one is "it will fold to sharp points to dig your rear end":)
01:01 PM archivist: did not need to read it all, felt it for real!
01:02 PM MrHindsight: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51eyNluO%2BjL._SX342_.jpg
01:02 PM IchGucksLive: Q can i get the G-code helpfile offline to the Helpbar inside axis
01:03 PM LeelooMinai: IchGucksLive: Imo print the reference and stick on the wall by the CNC or on the CNC:)
01:03 PM LeelooMinai: I will probably do it once done...
01:03 PM IchGucksLive: LeelooMinai: ok but in the Universety that is not modern
01:04 PM archivist: practical often beats modern
01:04 PM pink_vampire: IchGucksLive: I'm not sure what are you asking.
01:04 PM IchGucksLive: i will make a HELP btton in side pyvcp that leads the file out of PDF
01:04 PM LeelooMinai: They have keystroke reference. Yes, some nice g-code reference would be nice too, but you are talking Linux people. They will tell you "repository is this way, contribute" or "use man pages" :p
01:05 PM archivist: use html so it flows easier
01:05 PM LeelooMinai: Or "memorize it"
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: man is cool but it is old fashion
01:05 PM pink_vampire: IchGucksLive: why pdf? just embed it in the interface
01:05 PM pink_vampire: you can take it from the tormach website
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: got a link
01:05 PM LeelooMinai: Alternatively "you need g-code reference and you call yourself a machinist?" :)
01:07 PM pink_vampire: IchGucksLive: https://www.tormach.com/machine_codes_gcodes.html
01:08 PM FinboySlick: LeelooMinai: I'm pretty sure IchGucksLive knows g-code better than the two of us put together ;P
01:08 PM howto: IchGucksLive back
01:09 PM MrHindsight: FinboySlick: he put the G in G-code :)
01:09 PM IchGucksLive: FinboySlick: Thanks
01:09 PM IchGucksLive: i will print 20000 leve lets
01:10 PM LeelooMinai: FinboySlick: I do not dispute that:)
01:10 PM FinboySlick: IchGucksLive: Stefan replied to my 'chinesium to germanium alchemy' comment. I'm all starstruck now.
01:11 PM pink_vampire: I can't see any problem with look at the reference when you need it. Always better check then scrap.
01:12 PM IchGucksLive: im told i will have 5400 students from september so i need to buld up
01:12 PM pink_vampire: can I be one of your students?
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: if you are in NY maybe
01:13 PM pink_vampire: I think it's great honor to have a teacher like you.
01:13 PM pink_vampire: I'm in NY
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: i will be there in Feb to get a school projekt started
01:15 PM pink_vampire: sounds very interesting
01:15 PM pink_vampire: what king of project?
01:16 PM IchGucksLive: we still discuss here in germany
01:35 PM Ralith__ is now known as Ralith_
02:27 PM RomanC: guten abend
02:32 PM JT-Shop: howdy
02:38 PM RomanC: oh hello jt
02:39 PM RomanC: i have mount the harddisk
02:39 PM RomanC: linux pre install.... what a cool thing :-)
02:39 PM JT-Shop: :)
02:40 PM RomanC: I have also install the mesa card...express pci
02:41 PM RomanC: but zero idea how to install the drivers
02:41 PM JT-Shop: which card?
02:42 PM RomanC: linux is a new territory for me
02:42 PM RomanC: 7176 and
02:42 PM RomanC: one moment please
02:44 PM RomanC: 6i25
02:44 PM RomanC: fpga super port
02:44 PM JT-Shop: should be ready to plug and play
02:44 PM JT-Shop: did you get a PNG kit?
02:46 PM RomanC: yes and no
02:47 PM RomanC: i have order a plug and go ki
02:47 PM RomanC: kit
02:47 PM RomanC: i`ve receive a 7176e
02:47 PM RomanC: this is for ethernet...
02:47 PM RomanC: after... i ordererd only the 6i25
02:47 PM JT-Shop: which one are you trying to use?
02:48 PM RomanC: but... the superport is from the kit
02:48 PM RomanC: 6i25
02:49 PM RomanC: he is installed
03:00 PM JT-Shop: do you want to use the 6i25 with the 7i76 or the 7i76e?
03:13 PM kyle____: does anyone want to take bets on when I'll get my PID controller for my furnace from china?
03:15 PM kyle____: oh hey it's out for delivery today
03:15 PM kyle____: but it's fedex so... betting is still open
03:46 PM RomanC: @jt. with the 7i76
03:50 PM JT-Shop: the firmware should be installed on the 6i25 already
03:51 PM * JT-Shop needs to come up with a planetary geneva mechanism if there is one lol
04:11 PM XXCoder: https://www.amazon.com/Tinker-board-RK3288-1-8GHz-Mali-T764/dp/B06VSBVQWS/
04:11 PM XXCoder: if it had parallel port it'd be decent linuxcnc computer maybe
04:15 PM XXCoder: or maybe not if jitter is too high due to onboard stuff
04:24 PM Tom_itx: JT-Shop, how many cogs?>
04:25 PM FinboySlick: XXCoder: The Mali GPU isn't ideal.
04:26 PM XXCoder: oh too bad heh
04:26 PM FinboySlick: Unless they improved linux support that is. I only looked into that a few years back.
04:28 PM JT-Shop: Tom_itx: 4
04:28 PM XXCoder: jitter probably isnt good nyway and still no parallel port bleh
04:28 PM Tom_itx: what makes it planetary?
04:29 PM Tom_itx: sperical?
04:29 PM JT-Shop: the "gears" rotate around the hub
04:30 PM Tom_L: https://grabcad.com/library/slot-guided-geneva-mechanism-1
04:30 PM Tom_itx: something like that?
04:31 PM Tom_itx: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fs-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com%2Foriginals%2F0f%2F0a%2F89%2F0f0a89df4e9945613740895fb5387655.gif&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Fpin%2F339810734358258153%2F&docid=jCkB7dyl-GioCM&tbnid=XAxUNszSVB6R9M%3A&vet=10ahUKEwiEi8X96M_UAhXDxYMKHacJBIQQMwh4KEQwRA..i&w=704&h=469&bih=748&biw=1043&q=planetary%20geneva%20mechanism&ved=0ahUKEwiEi8X96M_UAhXDxYMKHacJBIQQMwh4KEQwRA&iact=mrc&uact=8
04:31 PM Tom_itx: woops
04:31 PM Tom_itx: or like that?
04:31 PM JT-Shop: no, the "gear is mounted on the turning part
04:32 PM Tom_itx: more like a harmonic drive
04:32 PM * JT-Shop is afraid to click on that one lol
04:32 PM Tom_itx: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/339810734358258153
04:32 PM Tom_itx: there
04:33 PM JT-Shop: let me draw up a mock up
04:34 PM Tom_itx: grabcad has quite a few variations
04:36 PM Tom_L: https://grabcad.com/library/inner-geneva-mechanism-1
04:36 PM Tom_itx: "inner geneva mechanism"
04:42 PM JT-Shop: sorta like that yea... groan you have to create an account to d/l the files.
04:42 PM Tom_itx: if you want em i can grab em and post
04:43 PM JT-Shop: yea I'd like to look at them
04:43 PM Tom_itx: it may just be a rendering
04:43 PM JT-Shop: looks like there is an assembly and some parts
04:47 PM JT-Shop: hmm axis locked up on master after sitting all night
04:47 PM Tom_itx: pm a link
04:49 PM Tom_itx: yeah that works
04:55 PM JT-Shop: looks neat but the geometry is not correct
04:59 PM JT-Shop: well crap mint 18.1 64bity is back to extremely bad latency... I wonder what kernel it booted to now
04:59 PM Tom_itx: how hard to fix it?
05:02 PM JT-Shop: not hard at all I just installed the grub customizer so I can pick the 3.18.x rt kernel instead of the default 4.6.x kernel klink
05:02 PM Tom_itx: the cad model..
05:03 PM JT-Shop: oh, not sure what is wrong at this point
05:03 PM Tom_itx: what's it for?
05:04 PM JT-Shop: pick up a strip of nails and turn every other one 180 degrees
05:07 PM phipli: evening
05:08 PM JT-Shop: yo
05:08 PM phipli: how goes?
05:10 PM JT-Shop: not bad fixing to install a gate for the chicken yard which is the place bigger than the run but not covered so I watch them when they are out in the yard
05:10 PM JT-Shop: you gather up all the bits for your door?
05:11 PM phipli: mostly - got some today
05:11 PM phipli: need to check what I'm still waiting on
05:11 PM phipli: I have the motor rigged up to a 300mm chinese leadscrew for the sake of it
05:11 PM JT-Shop: I'm waiting on the wifi chip and a couple of rechargeable batteries for the ds3231
05:12 PM JT-Shop: chinlee leadscrew should be good enough for a chicken door :)
05:13 PM phipli: 300mm (1') is a bit short though
05:13 PM phipli: they'd have to duck
05:13 PM phipli: and they're not very good at quacking
05:13 PM JT-Shop: mine are out the door when it's 1/2 way up lol
05:13 PM phipli: yes, sometimes with outs
05:13 PM JT-Shop: how tall is your door?
05:13 PM phipli: the first one hesitates
05:13 PM phipli: and then the second one jumps on its head
05:14 PM JT-Shop: yea sometimes the rooster just sits in the doorway
05:14 PM phipli: door is probably... 400 to 450mm?
05:14 PM JT-Shop: till they start pushing
05:15 PM Deejay: gn8
05:15 PM JT-Shop: I'm pretty happy with the code I have for the DS3231 now just need a battery for back up
05:15 PM phipli: right. I got fed up of my phone being slow
05:15 PM phipli: night Deejay
05:15 PM phipli: and so I put a custom firmware on it
05:17 PM phipli: I'm mostly happy with mine for now
05:17 PM phipli: but I might keep my test rig to improve it if I think how
05:18 PM phipli: modified a commercial motor adaptor to the correct diameters with a end mill...
05:18 PM phipli: made a lot better job of it than the wonky lathe + cheap drill bit
05:20 PM JT-Shop: is your mockup complete with up/down sensors?
05:20 PM phipli: they're not in the right place yet (need some spacers, or to build the carrier thing on the nut)
05:21 PM phipli: so you have to trigger them manually
05:21 PM phipli: I've got a piece of 1.2mm steel in the shed that might become a part of it soon
05:31 PM phipli: anyhow
05:31 PM phipli: night folks
05:36 PM kyle____: any bay area residents here know of a good place to get sheet steel suitable for a furnace enclosure?
05:36 PM kyle____: probably going to end up going to orchard
05:40 PM JT-Shop: night
05:40 PM JT-Shop: furnace as in melting metal?
05:53 PM luna__ is now known as tiwake
06:09 PM * JT-Shop gets ready for first external offset plasma test

09:21 PM gimps_ is now known as gimps
09:41 PM Duc: anyone have experience in the old mazak QST-10 dual turrent slant cnc lathe
10:00 PM Tom_itx: hey pete
10:04 PM BeachBumPete: me? ;)
10:04 PM Tom_itx: u r pete right?
10:04 PM Tom_itx: what you been up to?
10:05 PM BeachBumPete: last I checked
10:05 PM Duc: ever get the lathe working
10:05 PM BeachBumPete: why hell no
10:05 PM BeachBumPete: working on it tho
10:05 PM Duc: whats left on it?
10:06 PM BeachBumPete: been very busy at work and having to work a lot of overtime for the last several weeks
10:06 PM BeachBumPete: still installing all the hardware in the cabinet
10:06 PM BeachBumPete: I have been building all of the bench seating for a local restaurant
10:06 PM Duc: I might have a lead on a mazak quick slant 10 with dual turrents. Coworker doesnt have room for it
10:07 PM Tom_itx: cool, at least you're busy
10:07 PM BeachBumPete: they wanted simple rustic looking wood benches
10:07 PM BeachBumPete: Just finished it.
10:07 PM BeachBumPete: wanna see some pics?
10:07 PM Duc: lets see this
10:07 PM BeachBumPete: well actually I have to install the caps for the benches and some trim we made to mate them to the walls
10:07 PM BeachBumPete: but the benches are all installed
10:09 PM BeachBumPete: stby I gotta load em into imgur or something
10:12 PM BeachBumPete: http://imgur.com/a/7GV5B
10:13 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: If churches had diners, that's how they would look imo:)
10:13 PM BeachBumPete: yeah I know right
10:13 PM Duc: the butt numbing seats to clear people out quick
10:13 PM BeachBumPete: I just built them I did not design them LOL
10:14 PM BeachBumPete: honestly I sat in them quite a bit they are not as bad as they appear
10:14 PM Duc: still suprised the lathe is still unfinished
10:14 PM BeachBumPete: thanks
10:15 PM BeachBumPete: how many retrofits have you completed?
10:15 PM Duc: 1
10:16 PM BeachBumPete: this is my third
10:16 PM Duc: Not that I have any room to talk
10:16 PM Duc: my list of projects is huge.
10:16 PM Crom: heh.. that style most peole their eyeline ins below the top. My eyeline is always over the top
10:17 PM BeachBumPete: what does that mean? projects or completed projects?
10:17 PM Crom: I took some of those ceiling tiles and put double sided tape on the to make a back splash for my stove
10:18 PM Duc: both. trying to learn PLC programming now and programming fanuc robots
10:19 PM Crom: good carpet.. you can't see any dirt on that one
10:20 PM BeachBumPete: its just a home style restaurant, they are populating the walls with lots of old school memorabilia and signs etc.
10:20 PM BeachBumPete: they make a menu of health food/comfort food stuff
10:21 PM BeachBumPete: again none of it was my design but I built it all myself in about three weeks
10:26 PM BeachBumPete: I am trying to figure out how to install this wireless printer I just bought and get it to print UPS shipping labels for me LOL
10:27 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: Hint: though it's "wireless", you still need to plug it into mains.
10:27 PM BeachBumPete: boy you are a barrel of laughs tonight huh
10:27 PM LeelooMinai: lol:)
10:28 PM BeachBumPete: its already working just never printed to a label before
10:28 PM BeachBumPete: I am trying to setup so I can have UPS pickup my parts, ship them to my anodizer, then when the anodizer is finished they just pack it back up and slap a prepaid shipping label included in the box back on it and ship it back
10:29 PM BeachBumPete: seems simple enough
10:29 PM BeachBumPete: we shall see
10:29 PM BeachBumPete: if it saves me from having to drive up there and back all the time it will be worth it ;)
10:32 PM BeachBumPete: so anyone else doing anything interesting?
10:33 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: hi
10:33 PM BeachBumPete: hello tiwake
10:33 PM tiwake: today I made a sleeve for an air compressor part on a manual lathe at work
10:34 PM tiwake: well, two sleeves
10:34 PM LeelooMinai: Today I installed a new doorbell and moved it from the right to left:p
10:34 PM tiwake: though honestly it was not very interesting
10:34 PM tiwake: just a boring brass sleeve
10:35 PM BeachBumPete: I miss my old manual lathe
10:35 PM BeachBumPete: I make a couple rails tonight
10:35 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: my battery backup showed up in the mail today, that is kinda interesting
10:35 PM BeachBumPete: but I make them all the time so LOL
10:35 PM tiwake: its the first step to obtaining my server
10:35 PM tiwake: so I can use my old server as a machine controller
10:36 PM tiwake: and revive an old CNC engraving machine
10:36 PM BeachBumPete: Oh I ordered a couple new FPV drones the other day :)
10:36 PM BeachBumPete: looking forward to flying them when they get here.
10:36 PM BeachBumPete: a CNC engraver dedicated machine would be nice
10:36 PM BeachBumPete: I just use the VMC tho LOL
10:37 PM tiwake: I might not fix that machine up... but I might... I'll cart it home when I get closer to such to see if its worth it
10:38 PM BeachBumPete: I need to get this job finished so I can get back to a normal workday so I can work on the CNC lathe in the evenings some more
10:40 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: I need more money :(
10:40 PM BeachBumPete: you and me both mister
10:41 PM pink_vampire: today I re-service the machine and the vice, degrease them from all the oil and chips and bake them.
10:41 PM BeachBumPete: I am doing Crown and base install in a gorgeous condo on the island right now
10:41 PM tiwake: I have no machines of my own, and have negative money, and don't even own any property
10:41 PM tiwake: some of that negative money is owed to the IRS
10:41 PM BeachBumPete: the owner apparently owns several large car dealerships up north
10:41 PM BeachBumPete: he was there today and told us he is flying back north tonight
10:42 PM BeachBumPete: so I asked him what plane delta, united,
10:42 PM BeachBumPete: he said no he is flying back on a private jet
10:42 PM tiwake: actually about half of the money I owe is to the IRS
10:42 PM BeachBumPete: I said WOAH how much does that flight cost
10:42 PM BeachBumPete: he said about 5k!!!
10:43 PM BeachBumPete: I was like jeez ya know what I could do with 5k LOL
10:43 PM BeachBumPete: some people just live in a different world altogether
10:44 PM BeachBumPete: then he said he is flying to cali and back the next day. again on a chartered private jet LO
10:44 PM tiwake: they will not survive when the solar EMP hits, they will be zombie meat like everyone else except for the people who know how to build things
10:45 PM pink_vampire: hope linux cnc will work :0
10:45 PM BeachBumPete: wow
10:45 PM BeachBumPete: you are one of those big tinfoil hat kinda guys huh LOL
10:45 PM tiwake: ..?
10:46 PM BeachBumPete: zombie apocalypse and solar EMP's?
10:46 PM tiwake: every 200 years or so, there is a huge solar flair big enough to burn long pieces of wire in half
10:46 PM BeachBumPete: hehe
10:47 PM tiwake: when a large portion of the worlds power supply structure fails, electrical motors, power lines... all burn in half at the same time...
10:48 PM tiwake: law will not be able to be enforced, and the careless, and people who don't know how to build things will all be caught up in the rioting and die
10:48 PM BeachBumPete: if electric motors and power lines burn in half we probably wont be here to worry about it no?
10:49 PM BeachBumPete: well luckily I have been building things my entire life and I am heavily armed so I hope I will survive :)
10:49 PM tiwake: iunno... first step is to secure a way to generate power to feed machines to rebuild parts... how things shake down depends on environment variables not controllable
10:50 PM LeelooMinai: A bit random, but yesterday I watched some guy demonstrating distances in space. He had a pea to represent sun and went to a football field. Placed the sun, Earth as a poppy seed I think a foot away or so, then went to the other end of the field where he marked the Voyager probe, which is the most distant human made object by now.
10:50 PM tiwake: so I don't worry about it too much... but it will happen, sooner or later
10:50 PM LeelooMinai: Then he said that now he will place the closest star, and drove 220 miles to the nest state:p
10:50 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_storm_of_1859
10:51 PM LeelooMinai: next*
10:52 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: telegraph wires burning in several locations the entire length, severely electrocuting operators and such
10:52 PM cradek_: LeelooMinai: cody's lab on youtube
10:52 PM LeelooMinai: cradek_: You saw that too? I ended up on that video yesterday, you know, "by accident".
10:53 PM BeachBumPete: Truly amazing the distance voyager has traveled and still sending back info
10:55 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: if it wasent clear, when I said zombie meat, I meant "dead from riots, burglaries, and similar things
10:55 PM BeachBumPete: wassamatta you don't like zombie meat?
10:56 PM tiwake: iunno, never tried it
10:56 PM tiwake: I'll try almost anything once though
10:56 PM LeelooMinai: And you are still alive? Amazing:p
10:56 PM BeachBumPete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGMTMZB0tNY crazy LOL
10:57 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: I need about $2,000 to build my server
10:58 PM BeachBumPete: I need about $750 for my spindle drive for the lathe
10:59 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3dbbQV
11:00 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: I know how this guy will die: one day they will find him dead with 10000 bee stings on his body.
11:00 PM tiwake: LeelooMinai: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYtXuBN1Hvc
11:01 PM BeachBumPete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCP8EzHs7UQ just bought a couple of these things... should be fun
11:03 PM LeelooMinai: I can see one of those being used for things like, say, inspecting the state of roof on a house. How much is a setup like that (with the FPV googles. etc.)?
11:03 PM BeachBumPete: its surprisingly cheap
11:03 PM BeachBumPete: the tiny whoop drone is like $59 bucks
11:04 PM BeachBumPete: I am using a decent flysky FS-I6X transmitter and it was like $60
11:04 PM BeachBumPete: I went with the jjpro FPV goggles and they are like $75
11:04 PM BeachBumPete: got a decent battery charger now and I think it was $50
11:05 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: Do they make 3D stuff for drones by now?
11:05 PM LeelooMinai: I mean with 2 cameras and proper stereostpic goggles.
11:05 PM BeachBumPete: and a five pack of the 260MAH batteries and their cheapazz charger for it was like $18
11:05 PM BeachBumPete: probably but its not necessary
11:06 PM LeelooMinai: Well, 3D vision is not necessary, but I would rather see in 3D than not:p
11:06 PM BeachBumPete: these drones are ducted fan type with shrouds so you can fly in the house and slam into your dog and not hurt anything LOL
11:06 PM LeelooMinai: Unless you have a cat - then you should worry more about the drone than the pet...
11:06 PM tiwake: my sister sent me one of those drones with those 3D goggles for christmas
11:06 PM BeachBumPete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0UxA4KLgCU
11:07 PM tiwake: I have not touched it yet
11:07 PM BeachBumPete: this thing is tiny
11:07 PM BeachBumPete: its little more than the width of the palm of your hand
11:07 PM tiwake: I have no use for it
11:07 PM BeachBumPete: the other drone I bought was the wizard X220
11:07 PM tiwake: so I might never touch it
11:07 PM BeachBumPete: and that thing is MUCH faster, heavier, far more dangerous
11:07 PM LeelooMinai: One thing that puts me off is that those things are noisy as hell.
11:08 PM BeachBumPete: the tiny whoops are pretty quiet
11:08 PM LeelooMinai: I think I will wait for anti-gravity drones:)
11:09 PM BeachBumPete: I like the FPV stuff even tho I suck at it
11:09 PM BeachBumPete: which is the main reason I bought these tiny whoops
11:09 PM BeachBumPete: because I can sit on the couch and fly all around the house getting practice
11:09 PM LeelooMinai: What do you mean suck - I thought those drones are easy mode to fly:)
11:09 PM tiwake: I can't really decide what router to buy
11:09 PM BeachBumPete: I tried to fly the wizard outside with the FPV goggles and it was not pretty
11:09 PM LeelooMinai: It's not like a helicopter.
11:09 PM tiwake: I think maybe this one... https://www.amazon.com/RT-AC87U-Wireless-AC2400-AiProtection-Complete-Security/dp/B00MPI5N7U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498019137&sr=8-1&keywords=RT-AC87U
11:10 PM BeachBumPete: some drones are easy to fly
11:10 PM BeachBumPete: some are racing drones like the wizard and are very twitchy and stupid fast responding
11:10 PM BeachBumPete: my kids and I have been flying this foam air hogs one for years now and it is dead simple and easy to fly
11:11 PM BeachBumPete: the X220 is another story
11:11 PM BeachBumPete: I got a nice chunk out of the wall in the living room because I thought it would be easy to fly inside the house LOL
11:11 PM BeachBumPete: wont be doing that again
11:11 PM BeachBumPete: :)
11:12 PM LeelooMinai: Well, better that than your sister's eye...
11:13 PM BeachBumPete: my sister doesn't live here ;)
11:13 PM BeachBumPete: the racing drones are actually pretty heavy with the carbon frame and the battery pack and four powerful engines etc.
11:14 PM BeachBumPete: once my daughter was flying it and I had my hand on the control to kill it in case it got away from her
11:14 PM BeachBumPete: It started to drift over to the neighbors yard so I told her to bring it back near us and it went pretty high up
11:14 PM BeachBumPete: so I killed it about over our heads LOL
11:14 PM BeachBumPete: tried to catch the damn thing
11:14 PM BeachBumPete: of course power was off
11:15 PM BeachBumPete: but even just the weight hurt my hand catching it
11:18 PM BeachBumPete: eventually I want to build a much larger FPV video drone but I need to get really good at flying them first
11:18 PM BeachBumPete: oh well should be fun anyway LOL
11:25 PM BeachBumPete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIjGka68_yo this is pretty cool video
11:26 PM tiwake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3oItpVa9fs
11:43 PM MacGalempsy: hello
