12:00 AM Crom: 320x200 I think was 16 (15) bit color
12:19 AM chopper79: evening all
12:20 AM XXCoder: wb cradek
12:20 AM chopper79: Wow... talking about NES I see. Still have my NES and play it as well.
12:20 AM XXCoder: er Crom
12:20 AM XXCoder: chopper I got 8-bit gaming game, its 3rd party
12:20 AM chopper79: cool
12:20 AM XXCoder: also 143 games in one cartridge
12:21 AM XXCoder: but flaw is that its savable memory is overwritten if other game accesses it
12:21 AM chopper79: I still blow on my game cartridges to make them work...lol
12:21 AM XXCoder: that have been tested to make problem worse
12:21 AM XXCoder: use rubbing achcol and ear wiper to clean contacts
12:22 AM chopper79: well makes them play again. I clean them and also replace the connectors
12:22 AM XXCoder: http://mentalfloss.com/article/12589/did-blowing-nintendo-cartridges-really-help
12:22 AM chopper79: Still have to do it once in a while.
12:22 AM XXCoder: its disconnect and reconnect that does it not blowing
12:22 AM XXCoder: and yes I used to blow em also
12:23 AM chopper79: I know but its part of the NES ownership
12:23 AM chopper79: haha
12:23 AM chopper79: As long as I can play Contra and Zelda I am good.
12:23 AM XXCoder: I'm looking for copy of crystalis
12:24 AM chopper79: Love those games even though I have beat them so many times it is still fun. Well and Mario and a bit of Duck hunt
12:24 AM XXCoder: you use crt to play em eh
12:24 AM chopper79: only way to do it
12:24 AM XXCoder: great idea as some games dont display nicely on led
12:24 AM chopper79: I have an old box tv with rabbit ears
12:25 AM XXCoder: its getting hard to find crt
12:25 AM chopper79: Only thing that gets played on it is my NES and VHS..lol
12:25 AM chopper79: yes I still have a vcr that I watch some of my old movies on... Darn I am getting old
12:26 AM XXCoder: lol
12:26 AM XXCoder: well I cant complain as I got nes games play lol
12:27 AM chopper79: haha... I have my Atari still also.
12:28 AM chopper79: Do not play it as much due to it being older and do not want to break it
12:28 AM XXCoder: 2 ataris and lots games here
12:28 AM chopper79: heck yeah
12:28 AM XXCoder: you probaly will need to replace caps
12:28 AM XXCoder: those usually die
12:28 AM chopper79: Have not yet but I am sure it will need it one day
12:29 AM chopper79: Now I want to go in an play.... I am not a gmaer at all. I just like to play old school games now an then. I do not have nay other games besides Atari and NES.
12:30 AM XXCoder: most of more modern games make me dizzy sadly
12:32 AM chopper79: Same here.... Just way to much happening. I purchased a Wii and COD one time and sold it as I could not play it. I will stick to old school games and working with my hands building stuff. My 4 kids do not play games either. Just have better things to do like build life skills and learn how to make, and repair things. Go camping and fishing a lot also
12:33 AM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: How about old ones. Like Spindizzy? :p
12:33 AM chopper79: No offense to anyone but I cannot put gaming in place of life skills.
12:33 AM Crom: I did not allow my kids to have consoles... just their computers
12:33 AM XXCoder: LeelooMinai: wow looks like marble madnessw daddy
12:34 AM XXCoder: kind of anyway
12:34 AM LeelooMinai: I did not really play it much - tried it once, but it was hard.
12:34 AM chopper79: marble madness....haha
12:34 AM XXCoder: I went all way to final level
12:34 AM XXCoder: never could go far there
12:34 AM LeelooMinai: at least with a joystic - kept falling off all the time:)
12:34 AM Crom: wii was another story... only game we had for it was wii fit
12:35 AM chopper79: Something about 8bit music is awesome also
12:35 AM XXCoder: http://img1.game-oldies.com/sites/default/files/packshots/nintendo-nes/snake-rattle-n-roll-usa.png
12:36 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZd1Almdwug
12:36 AM LeelooMinai: lol, I remember the Boulderdash intro music kept sticking in my mind and drive me crazy.
12:36 AM chopper79: I forgot all about that game
12:37 AM XXCoder: I wentpretty far there also
12:37 AM chopper79: skate or die
12:38 AM XXCoder: never did well pon that one.
12:38 AM chopper79: Mike tysons punch out?
12:38 AM XXCoder: saw but never played
12:38 AM LeelooMinai: What year are those games you are talking about?
12:39 AM XXCoder: nes era so 88 to 93 or swo
12:39 AM chopper79: late 80's early 90's
12:39 AM LeelooMinai: I think mine is earlier - I was talking 8 bit Atari:)
12:39 AM LeelooMinai: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLR5rYrULfA
12:40 AM LeelooMinai: Damn, why did I listen to it after so many years - it's stuck back again:(
12:40 AM chopper79: mortal kombat
12:40 AM XXCoder: bloulder dash looks very familiar. dunno if played
12:41 AM XXCoder: I have essentally ALL atari games
12:41 AM XXCoder: including illegal ones, stopped development so on
12:41 AM XXCoder: and they all total to 5 mb or so
12:41 AM LeelooMinai: My favourite was probably Spy vs Spy
12:42 AM LeelooMinai: But you needed two people to play it.
12:42 AM LeelooMinai: But you got never-ending lols:)
12:43 AM XXCoder: nice
12:44 AM chopper79: up up down down left right left right b a select start
12:44 AM chopper79: Man I still remeber that code..lol
12:44 AM XXCoder: yep in many games also
12:45 AM XXCoder: mnowdays there is 2 websites that has that, and couple modern games?
12:45 AM XXCoder: in least was when I read about it while ago
12:46 AM XXCoder: hey ich
12:46 AM IchGucksLive: morning
12:46 AM IchGucksLive: getting the record breaking temps here today
12:46 AM LeelooMinai: I went digital long time ago:p
12:47 AM IchGucksLive: lot of pcb milling is on the list today
12:47 AM XXCoder: rattle and roll game the level with bells is highest I ever went, I think
12:47 AM chopper79: Ninja Gaiden... was fun also
12:48 AM IchGucksLive: giant 7segment 2foot is on plan
12:48 AM IchGucksLive: etzs see how i comes oout wood foam lots of work
12:49 AM IchGucksLive: till later folks
12:49 AM IchGucksLive: keep nonbitbreaking
12:49 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
12:50 AM chopper79: I got to hit the bed myself... Later all
12:50 AM Crom: for some reason... inkscape is making the cut go in 0.01mm depth increments...
12:53 AM LeelooMinai: lol, that reminds me how once long time ago I designed some laser-cut enclosure for one of my pcbs sent it, and it came in 1:2.54 scale because somehow units got mixed up in the laser cutting place.
12:53 AM LeelooMinai: So I had tiny model of it instead.
12:54 AM Kevin`: Crom: a simple method of encoding and control for laser cutting uses a comparison of z<0 as on, and >0 as off. using a really small number lets you avoid changing the planner behavior
12:57 AM XXCoder: doh
01:07 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc8nePqQ4rc
01:07 AM XXCoder: huh??
01:07 AM XXCoder: its all zoomed out
01:08 AM XXCoder: they edited it into that video. great overview!
01:09 AM Crom: cutting sheet brass...
01:10 AM Crom: .6mm
01:16 AM XXCoder: chopper79: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viozNEfDEWk
01:16 AM XXCoder: zoomed out view of smb3
01:16 AM XXCoder: cool
01:23 AM XXCoder: TAS means mario is essentally godlike
02:05 AM Crom: kevin for laser I'm using smoothieware and marlin
02:12 AM CaptHindsight: Crom: why that vs LCNC + Mesa or LPT?
02:14 AM Crom: makes them stand alone... when I can afford it both will be smoothieware, then I can just upload via ethernet
02:18 AM archivist: blasphemy
02:20 AM Crom: They are for a maker space...
02:21 AM Crom: I need to make them closed loop cooling as well
02:22 AM archivist: maker spaces need training in linuxcnc to spread the word
02:23 AM XXCoder: one BOB 3 tb6600s much cheaper than smoothie
02:24 AM XXCoder: like arch said, spread the propoada
02:25 AM Deejay: moin
02:26 AM Crom: Just found my copy of Team America!
02:27 AM XXCoder: is that a game?
02:28 AM Crom: Bad marionet moive
02:29 AM Crom: movie
02:32 AM Crom: hmm leadshine has closed loop NEMA 17 steppers
02:35 AM Crom: JMC-motor.com now has a 3Nm closed loop stepper http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEMA-24-3Nm-425oz-in-Integrated-Closed-Loop-Stepper-motor-36VDC-JMC-iHSS60-36-30-/262565319112
02:42 AM Crom: same price as a 2Nm
03:14 AM Valen_ is now known as Valen
04:15 AM Phipli: morning
04:15 AM XXCoder: yo
04:16 AM Phipli: you still up?
04:16 AM XXCoder: well yeah its just soon 2 am
04:16 AM XXCoder: I usually bed at 4 am or 5
04:16 AM Phipli: I used to do that.
04:17 AM Phipli: best work is done after 11pm
04:17 AM Phipli: missus doesn't agree... Nor does work
04:18 AM XXCoder: I work 3:15 pm to 1:45 am
04:18 AM XXCoder: so going to bed early wont help
04:19 AM Phipli: shifts or fixed hours?
04:20 AM XXCoder: fixed
04:20 AM XXCoder: 4 days 10 hours
04:20 AM Phipli: sounds like maintenance depot hours...
04:21 AM Phipli: 24 hour running machines?
04:21 AM XXCoder: essentally. there is 4 hour gap
04:22 AM XXCoder: weekend shift (fri-sunday) is 12 hour shift, only one shift
04:24 AM Phipli: the rail depots over here do a number of patterns
04:24 AM Phipli: some do 3 overlapping 12 hour shifts
04:25 AM Phipli: with staff cycling through them after rest days
04:25 AM XXCoder: yeah
04:25 AM XXCoder: company i work for isnt big enough for that
04:25 AM Phipli: I'd sooner the fixed hours - easier to plan and more time to get used to it
04:26 AM XXCoder: day shift does pretty lot of jobs and only shift that must be filled at all time
04:26 AM XXCoder: 2nd only has 4 mill machinists and 2 lathe machinists
04:26 AM XXCoder: weekend has fewer
04:26 AM Phipli: inverted for trains - most work done at night
04:28 AM Phipli: hell for us - we only occasionally need access to trains so it will be one or two nights in the middle of days. Plays havoc with my sleep.
04:28 AM XXCoder: ow
04:29 AM Phipli: Heh. One way to confuse a train guard is to be already on his train when it comes off depot in the morning
04:29 AM XXCoder: lol
04:30 AM Phipli: I quite like that sort of work though - often it is setting up temporary instrumentation
04:31 AM Phipli: usually office based so doing a load of thermocouple wiring is therapeutic
04:33 AM XXCoder: nice
04:33 AM Phipli: Do you feed the machines with jobs / material? Or does the night shift generate programs too?
04:35 AM XXCoder: well what we do is setup machine, make part make sure its bought off
04:35 AM XXCoder: then run rest of parts still making sure parts is nice and accurate
04:37 AM Phipli: all big runs?
04:38 AM Phipli: just found out that the company at the end of the road is a cnc manufacturer supplying the aerospace and automotive industries
04:39 AM Phipli: they have cnc pipe benders. They're cool.
04:40 AM XXCoder: yes, pipe cnc benders is cool. none at work
04:40 AM XXCoder: well some orders is big, 3,750 parts for order im working on, I can make 24 a day at most
04:40 AM XXCoder: but theres many smaller batch orders also.
04:44 AM Phipli: https://youtu.be/yigRgG_NIyU
04:44 AM XXCoder: yeah thats video I saw
04:44 AM XXCoder: amazing eh
04:45 AM XXCoder: too bad its wwaaaaaayyyyy too expensive to be a toy for fun
04:45 AM Phipli: first time time my dad saw one he came home bright eyed and waving his arms with enthusiasm
04:45 AM Phipli: bless :)
04:47 AM Phipli: they'd be awesome if you made tubular chassis for something like race cars or trailers
04:47 AM Phipli: the speed gains would pay for it if you had the order numbers...
04:48 AM XXCoder: I wonder what its cam is like
04:48 AM Phipli: they use them to make those load partitions that go behind the driver in vans.
04:49 AM Phipli: I might see if I can get a look around on a day off
04:49 AM Phipli: see if they'll let me in
04:49 AM XXCoder: heh if you get one I want you to make something for me lol I'll pay for pipe lol
04:50 AM Phipli: and postage? :p
04:50 AM Phipli: it would be awesome if the did one-offs...
04:50 AM XXCoder: nahhh you keep it, I said make not send it to me ;)
04:50 AM XXCoder: kidding lol
04:51 AM Phipli: they're on my doorstep. laser cutters, big cnc milling... etc etc
04:51 AM Phipli: :)
04:56 AM Phipli: they have the 40mm one of these :
04:56 AM Phipli: http://www.blmgroup.com/en/tube-bending/e-turn
04:56 AM Phipli: see if I can find something about the software
04:57 AM XXCoder: http://www.blmgroup.com/documents/21769/28919/new_facilit%C3%A0_duso_2a.jpg/d8feaa14-ba52-4fdb-a225-4b04aabda5e3?t=1470325457000
04:58 AM XXCoder: vgp3d
05:00 AM Phipli: yeah. Just found the mention
05:01 AM Phipli: http://www.blmgroup.com/en/software/vgp3d
05:03 AM XXCoder: "are you interested? join our newsletter!" me: uhhh what if I actually wanna buy something?
05:03 AM XXCoder: :P
05:05 AM XXCoder: I hate websites that dont reveal prices
05:05 AM Phipli: You mean some do? :p
05:05 AM XXCoder: yes.
05:05 AM Phipli: Me too. But is the norm now.
05:06 AM Phipli: CAD software for example - esp. CFD and FEA software
05:06 AM Phipli: and these stupid annual licence fees
05:07 AM XXCoder: yeah im not buying anything annual ever
05:07 AM Phipli: Yeah. Adobe pap per month...
05:07 AM XXCoder: nor in any units of time
05:07 AM Phipli: or learn Gimp and Inkscape for free...
05:07 AM XXCoder: there it covers everything
05:08 AM Phipli: *pap = pay
05:26 AM Phipli: my brother's sony ad has been uploaded : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B3PlrgEaZc&feature=youtu.be
05:27 AM Phipli: he did the pyrotechnics and built the props
05:28 AM XXCoder: interesting
05:29 AM Phipli: he had to make cannon to fire hundreds of ball pool balls really quickly
05:29 AM Phipli: they looked cool
05:35 AM XXCoder: yea
05:50 AM Phiplii: ping?
05:51 AM XXCoder: PONG!
05:51 AM Phiplii: PING!
05:51 AM Phiplii: heh
05:51 AM Phiplii: http://nervoussquirrel.com/project_adrift.html
05:52 AM Phiplii: brother made that a while back.
05:52 AM XXCoder: it records and plays sound?
05:52 AM XXCoder: multi-track?
05:52 AM Phiplii: Basically a CNC polyphonic aluminium "wax"cylinder
05:52 AM Phiplii: he made one form of it to record, but the final plays
05:53 AM Phiplii: it selects tracks based on what satellites are overhead
05:53 AM Phiplii: (an other person did the software for the satellite part)
05:55 AM XXCoder: artistic reasons or what?
05:56 AM XXCoder: or science recordings?
05:58 AM Loetmichel: Phiplii: hows the sound quality?
05:59 AM XXCoder: big cylinder records is new vynil for hipsters ;)
06:00 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: i doubt it
06:00 AM Loetmichel: aluminium will wear down the needles pretty wuickly once it develops a oside layer
06:00 AM Loetmichel: oxide
06:00 AM XXCoder: even tungsten ones?
06:01 AM Loetmichel: vinyl needes are sually made of diamond or sapphire
06:01 AM Loetmichel: so yes, even tungsten ones ;)
06:01 AM Loetmichel: usually
06:01 AM XXCoder: lol ok
06:02 AM XXCoder: youre probably not surpised im not very famuiliar with record stuff :P
06:02 AM XXCoder: I only know what I read but it hardly covers all lol
07:28 AM * Loetmichel just sits at the company, soldering PCBs. With a BT-headsed in one ear and watching youtube videos... i am really wondering how long it will take to kill the battery of that 12 eur BT-headset... every day a full cycle or even more.
07:30 AM JT-Mobile: morning
07:32 AM XXCoder: hey
07:32 AM XXCoder: how goes the road
07:33 AM JT-Mobile: hope the rain is passed
07:35 AM JT-Mobile: heading for San Antonio today
09:46 AM gcardinal: Do I need PID tuning params in ini / hal if I run regular stepper drivers? not servo
10:04 AM pcw_home: depends on how the hal file is setup, for a hardware stepgen there are somr advantages of using
10:04 AM pcw_home: PID vs the built in position mode stepgen control loop in the driver
12:33 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:34 PM phipli: Really does get quiet at this time of day
12:34 PM LeelooMinai: phipli: Boooo!!!
12:38 PM phipli: <hides>
12:45 PM insomnia is now known as ClownShoes
01:09 PM Crom: morning
01:10 PM Crom: I want!!!! $121 http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEMA-24-3Nm-425oz-in-Integrated-Closed-Loop-Stepper-motor-36VDC-JMC-iHSS60-36-30-/262565319112
01:11 PM Crom: I can make it fit NEMA mount if it doesn't
01:11 PM Crom: NEMA 23
01:12 PM LeelooMinai: Hmm... what is this weird thing.
01:12 PM Crom: Closed loop integrated stepper... Stepper+driver+encoder+controller
01:13 PM LeelooMinai: Roght, I can see, but what's the point:)
01:14 PM Crom: no more lost steps
01:14 PM Crom: they also have the steppers with incoders and external drivers..
01:15 PM LeelooMinai: Well, I mean I attached an encoder on mine too, for testing, but, my impression is that you should not lose steps unless you have a fault in your steup.
01:17 PM LeelooMinai: Also, this has integrated driver, right? I wonder about cooling - do not really see any big heatsink there.
01:18 PM Crom: since it's integrated all together you don't need the 3amps of holding current. not moving it's cool about 5c above ambiant, I've gotten it to 15C above ambiant
01:19 PM LeelooMinai: Hmm
01:19 PM Crom: because of that.. where you'd normally use 3Nm you can use a 2Nm
01:21 PM Crom: Price difference between the 2Nm and 3Nm is less than $20...
01:21 PM JesusAlos: Hi
01:22 PM Crom: Morning
01:22 PM JesusAlos: There are an USB interface board for linuxcnc who works good?
01:22 PM Crom: I have my CNC3040 cutting out brass crowns right now...
01:23 PM sync: JesusAlos: no, usb motion cards are not supported
01:23 PM Crom: the LCNC gods really don't like USB... look at ethernet MESA boards
01:24 PM JesusAlos: yes, ethernet is an other good option
01:24 PM JesusAlos: thank
01:24 PM Crom: De Nada
01:24 PM JesusAlos: :)
01:38 PM TurBoss: hello
01:40 PM IchGucksLive: JesusAlos: go ETH
01:40 PM IchGucksLive: not USB
01:41 PM IchGucksLive: its the better way to do it
01:42 PM JesusAlos: IchGucksLive: Do you have a reference?
01:42 PM TurBoss: usb is like a train station if you loose the train yo have to wait for the next to arraive
01:42 PM IchGucksLive: 7i92
01:43 PM TurBoss: eth is like a pipe
01:43 PM TurBoss: :D
01:43 PM LeelooMinai: Well, one obvious advantage is that USB has length limitation and much higher latencies on the bus.
01:44 PM LeelooMinai: + It's not isolated by transformers like ethernet
01:45 PM TurBoss: JesusAlos do you sell machines?
01:45 PM JesusAlos: Yes
01:45 PM LeelooMinai: Those things are pretty important for in this usage scenarios, so, if you have a choice, go with ethernet, yes.
01:45 PM TurBoss: I'm interested
01:45 PM TurBoss: do you have some web site?
01:46 PM JesusAlos: Not up to date
01:50 PM IchGucksLive: GN8
01:58 PM JesusAlos: GN8
03:18 PM Crom: sheeshza my tables out by a good .6mm
03:57 PM LeelooMinai: Crom: Imo that's not a table, but a slope:p
04:33 PM Deejay: gn8
04:50 PM JT-Mobile: howdy from San Antonio
05:05 PM Phiplii: JT-Mobile - Is this trip a holiday?
05:06 PM JT-Mobile: yes, 3 couples on motorbikes touring east texas
05:07 PM JT-Mobile: yea I get a vacation finally!
05:07 PM JT-Mobile: got my chicken check a few minutes ago and they are all doing good lol
05:08 PM Phiplii: excellent :)
05:09 PM Phiplii: Going to visit NASA? Or is that the wrong bit of Texas
05:10 PM JT-Mobile: na they are in Houston
05:10 PM JT-Mobile: Galveston is next
05:10 PM JT-Mobile: we visited NASA in Florida :)
05:11 PM Phiplii: Yay! Spaceships :)
05:11 PM LeelooMinai: They cut their budget, so I would not be so excited:p
05:11 PM Phiplii: We don't make rockets any more. Government decided it was too expensive.
05:12 PM LeelooMinai: Makes sense - there's money needed in other places, like military.
05:13 PM Phiplii: Nah, they cut that too
05:13 PM LeelooMinai: Phiplii: You are not from US?
05:13 PM Phiplii: Same as health... and transport...
05:13 PM Phiplii: Not sure what they do spend it on.
05:13 PM Phiplii: In the UK
05:14 PM LeelooMinai: A, ok
05:21 PM enleth: is there a good way to make use of a knee encoder on a machine that already uses the quill as a Z axis, specifically to maintain tool Z offsets over knee moves?
05:25 PM JT-Mobile: off to find some chow
05:26 PM Tom_L: have fun
05:26 PM roycroft: she's a liar, liar
05:26 PM roycroft: she's a liar, liar
05:26 PM roycroft: you can't trust her
05:26 PM roycroft: no, no, no
05:26 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile what you gonna do in galveston?
05:27 PM roycroft: our friends in the uk probably recognise that :)
05:27 PM Tom_L: you know you can go to galveston.com and watch the port live
05:38 PM Phiplii: roycroft - they're not playing it on the radio
06:35 PM Cromaglious_: got my crowns cut out, one soldered. the other needs a fitting.. I might need and extension
06:35 PM Cromaglious_: s/and/an/
07:36 PM * jym thinks Cromaglious_ is having a royal treatment complex ;)
07:36 PM * jym hands Cromaglious_ his tiera... you look pretty, oh so pretty!
08:02 PM Cromaglious_: Lincon Electric 4x8 cnc plasma table... $25,000 + shipping
08:38 PM JT-Mobile: Tom_L, one of the crew wants to go to the beach
09:23 PM XXCoder: wow
09:23 PM XXCoder: dent on my car door. pretty big for door impact type
09:23 PM XXCoder: someone was jelious or pissed something
09:26 PM Cromaglious_: That's why I drive rolling pieces of Shite... Mechanically 100% visually... meh....
09:27 PM Cromaglious_: Last new truck I bought.. 1988 Chevy 1ton bonus cab... I keyed it before I left the lot... nice 18" long sucker too
09:27 PM XXCoder: you keyed your own truck?
09:28 PM Cromaglious_: yet... just got it over with... first scratch...
09:28 PM Cromaglious_: wep
09:28 PM Cromaglious_: yep
09:28 PM XXCoder: lol ok
09:28 PM XXCoder: I generally dont care also
09:28 PM XXCoder: just that someone with tiny stick thought it was good idea.
09:28 PM XXCoder: its very clearly delibrate
09:29 PM XXCoder: I park very neatly in middle at all time so there was no cause
09:29 PM Cromaglious_: My wife ripped open the side of a tesla with the hitch on the cadillac
09:30 PM malcom2073: HAha, whups
09:30 PM malcom2073: Can't say I've ever had enough moeny to have those particular problems :-P
09:30 PM XXCoder: funny thing that I said I dont care because my car just had a car wash :P
09:30 PM XXCoder: but then it was getting covered in bird poop
09:30 PM dioz: lol
09:30 PM Cromaglious_: he was cutting through the parking lot of her work, so he didn't have to go over the speed bumps.. and not paying attention.. cuz my wife was backing out of a blind space..
09:30 PM dioz: Cromaglious_: what did you say to thw wife? are you still togethet?
09:31 PM XXCoder: there was 4 inch diameter poop diameter on side
09:31 PM dioz: aaah
09:31 PM XXCoder: dent is little above that. HMM
09:31 PM dioz: got your wifes back i hope
09:31 PM XXCoder: I wonder if fly hit car and shat all over
09:31 PM dioz: belittled the dude
09:31 PM dioz: it's all about fault
09:31 PM Cromaglious_: dioz: I hugged her and kissed her, and told her to tear up some more tesla's...
09:31 PM dioz: lol
09:31 PM dioz: ^5
09:32 PM XXCoder: car is worth nothing related to relationship
09:32 PM dioz: unless its a rolls
09:32 PM dioz: true
09:33 PM XXCoder: http://static.boredpanda.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/advertising-placement-fails-310__605.jpg
09:33 PM * XXCoder cringes
09:34 PM Cromaglious_: woooo.... Daily Mirror... what else would you expect..
09:35 PM XXCoder: http://www.boredpanda.com/advertising-placement-fails/
09:35 PM XXCoder: more of those
09:35 PM XXCoder: theres worse ones
09:36 PM XXCoder: like woman leaning forward, on other side of fold is ad about choculate drink. its place so it looks like woman is pooping it into bottle.
09:36 PM XXCoder: very liquidy dirreha
09:46 PM roycroft: i was doing yard work almost all day, but i did get to spend a little time working on my lathe this afternoon
09:46 PM roycroft: i have the index dials on the cross slide and top slide working a lot better now
09:46 PM roycroft: and i made a part that turned out semi-decent
09:46 PM roycroft: http://www.roycroft.us/ThumbScrew1.jpeg
09:46 PM roycroft: http://www.roycroft.us/ThumbScrew2.jpeg
09:48 PM roycroft: my knurling tool was made for my little 6x10 lathe - i could hardly grip it with a tool holder in my new machine, and it's woefully undersized
09:48 PM roycroft: it kind of twisted when i was knurling
09:49 PM XXCoder: lol
09:49 PM XXCoder: its pretty decent
09:49 PM roycroft: i think it proves the lathe is a useful machine
09:49 PM XXCoder: onbly kurling is little bit wonky and theres reason for that
09:49 PM roycroft: but i need to improve my turning skills
09:50 PM roycroft: the threading is a little rougher than i'd like
09:50 PM roycroft: the belt drive is enough not fun to deal with that i can see myself getting a 3 phase motor and vfd very soon
09:51 PM roycroft: which i always anticipated
09:51 PM roycroft: i'm not using optimal speeds because i don't like changing the belts around
09:51 PM roycroft: so today i was running at 60rpm and 240rpm
09:52 PM roycroft: and i should have been running around 1000rpm when turning down the shank for the thread
09:53 PM roycroft: as a scale reference, in case the knurling is not enough, that's a 3/8-24 thread
10:11 PM Cromaglious_: I want to replace my knurling rollers with smooth so I can us it for centering or truing
10:12 PM Cromaglious_: heading home
10:16 PM roycroft: you know, that's an idea
10:16 PM roycroft: my qctp set came with a tool holder that has push knurls on one end and holds standard tooling on the other
10:17 PM roycroft: i figured it was half useless, because i hate push knurling tools
10:17 PM roycroft: i like the clamp ones
10:17 PM roycroft: but if i replace the knurls with a bearing i can use it a sa centering tool
10:18 PM roycroft: then i dont have to make a centering tool
10:18 PM roycroft: what a brilliant i dea
11:04 PM dioz: roycroft: what constant ia 3.82?
11:04 PM dioz: we do a calcularion to determine rpm for drilling
11:04 PM dioz: 3.82 * 80 (mild steel) / diametet
11:05 PM dioz: so if i need to tap a nf 3/8 hole i drill a 21/64 hole at...
11:05 PM dioz: 3.82 * 80 / (21/64)
11:06 PM dioz: i mean fine thread
11:06 PM dioz: instead of course
11:06 PM dioz: 3/8 - 1/24
11:09 PM dioz: which is what?
11:09 PM dioz: .3 repetend?
11:15 PM LeelooMinai: dioz: http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/cnc-machining/why-3-82-a-291261/
11:16 PM LeelooMinai: Seems like 12/pi
11:16 PM jym: LeelooMinai: NO PIE FOR YOU! Neeeeext!
11:18 PM jym: LeelooMinai: signed/The Pie Nazi/
11:18 PM LeelooMinai: lol @ ranking of users on that forum: the question came from someone ranked "plastic" and answers from aluminium and stainless
11:19 PM jym: LeelooMinai: Hey, just as long as you're not ranked "used recycled toiet paper" you'll be fine.
11:21 PM LeelooMinai: I wonder what is on the top - carbide? :)
11:22 PM jym: plantium?
11:22 PM jym: titanium?
11:22 PM Crom: homr
11:22 PM roycroft: diamond!
11:22 PM LeelooMinai: Well, I kind of assume those materials are ranked by hardness or something close.
11:23 PM LeelooMinai: Right, so diamond could be, though I don't know...
11:23 PM LeelooMinai: If they included plastic, it does not have to be a metal:)
11:26 PM jym: Funny thing, there is a military plastic that is 10x lighter than steel, yet 3x stronger =)
11:26 PM LeelooMinai: But probably not as hard.
11:27 PM jym: It is, just $$$$$
11:27 PM Crom: probably a mix of kevlar and poly carbonate
11:27 PM roycroft: and 100x as expensive
11:28 PM jym: I didn't even have access to that building, heh
11:29 PM roycroft: so would this collet chuck be useful?
11:29 PM roycroft: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271667545896
11:29 PM LeelooMinai: If you were a Russian, you probably would have:p
11:30 PM roycroft: i usually see the kind with the lever on the outside of the lathe and a drawbar that goes through the spindle
11:30 PM roycroft: which i'm sure does faster changes than the one i linked to
11:30 PM roycroft: but that one seems as though it should be accurate, no?
11:31 PM roycroft: maybe not as accurate as the drawbar ones, i suppose
11:42 PM Crom: darn it... my lathe is a 1 3/4" 8tpi
11:46 PM Crom: hmm put a 1 1/8" bar in a 4 jaw chuck and indicate it in to like 0.0001", turn the rod to 1 1/16" then clamp the 5c onto that and indicate it in... you could dress up the back if you need to.., then clamp on the bar with a 5c then indicate it in...
11:47 PM Crom: then you can mount the back plate in place of the 4 jaw and finish it up and then mount the collet chuck
11:48 PM roycroft: or i could mount the collet chuck in the 4 jaw, indicate it, and use it that way
11:49 PM Crom: I was using my little 2 1/2" 3 jaw today... that's how I do it...
11:49 PM roycroft: i suppose my more immediate question is: would 5c be the best collet system for my lathe, or would an er series be better?
11:49 PM roycroft: i'm not going to get a collet chuck or collets soon
11:49 PM roycroft: but i'm designing the cabinets for my lathe stand, and i want a drawer to hold the collets
11:50 PM Crom: I think 5C is the most versatile... you can use it on the lathe, on a mill, on the bench...
11:50 PM Crom: You can get a ER holder with a 5c back I believe
11:50 PM roycroft: i like those 5c square and hex holders that can be used on a mill
11:53 PM roycroft: my understanding is that the main advantage of an er over a 5c is that an er collet can grip a wider range than a 5c, so one would not need as many collets
11:57 PM Crom: the 5c spindexer is also another 5c plus
11:58 PM Crom: You can do alot with one of those before you really need to get a rotary table
11:58 PM Crom: heck you can turn one into a 4th axis
