12:28 AM zeeshan: hi
12:30 AM zeeshan: http://imgur.com/a/G4UXA
12:30 AM zeeshan: polished the knife
12:30 AM zeeshan: its sharp as hell now
12:30 AM XXCoder: looking
12:30 AM XXCoder: is it sharp enough to cut reality, like that knife in "his dark materials"?
12:31 AM zeeshan: it slices paper under its own weight
12:31 AM zeeshan: :D
12:31 AM XXCoder: pretty good allright
12:32 AM XXCoder: whats funny about that mythical knife is that it doesnt cut when its not actively being used, like in knife holster. :P
12:33 AM zeeshan: everyuone keeps telling me about this show
12:33 AM XXCoder: its still traveling though space inside holser anyway, and cutting space as it moves lol
12:33 AM zeeshan: about knife building?
12:33 AM zeeshan: ive never even seen it!
12:33 AM zeeshan: sounds like something from an anime: P
12:33 AM XXCoder: his dark materials they made only one movie, theres 3 books.
12:33 AM zeeshan: (knife cutting space)
12:35 AM XXCoder: its weird enough to be anime.
12:35 AM XXCoder: anyway
12:35 AM XXCoder: so whats your next plan with knives heh
12:35 AM zeeshan: noithing
12:36 AM zeeshan: did you make your aluminum knife? :D
12:36 AM XXCoder: nah no way to cool tool as its cutting
12:36 AM XXCoder: electrics is still very exposed
12:37 AM XXCoder: it may be while before i cut alum
12:38 AM zeeshan: what have you made on it?
12:38 AM XXCoder: so far, the failure on that weird thing, and the ILY engrave
12:38 AM XXCoder: I need to work on it more but feeling lazy
12:38 AM XXCoder: im still waiting for parts
12:39 AM XXCoder: I plan to build electrics box fairly soon once I get stuff
02:14 AM GregB: Hey guys, been a bit
02:14 AM Deejay: moin
02:14 AM GregB: I was wondering if anyone knew of a good CNC laster Cutter DIY Kit.
02:15 AM GregB: laser*
02:15 AM XXCoder: 1w? 400w?
02:15 AM GregB: I have no idea.
02:15 AM GregB: Sort of new to the whole thing, and was looking to learn how to do it.
02:15 AM XXCoder: whats usercase
02:15 AM XXCoder: aliexpress has not badkit for 100 bucks
02:16 AM GregB: for the most part, quick cuts with large materials, perhaps thick plastics
02:16 AM GregB: Hopeing to find a kit for something like a 4x8
02:16 AM GregB: feet
02:17 AM XXCoder: yeah not that 100 bucks one :)
02:17 AM GregB: lol, figured that much
02:17 AM GregB: What sort of wattage should I need for something like that?
02:17 AM XXCoder: lots.
02:18 AM XXCoder: not too sure on precise wattage
02:18 AM GregB: Ohh that's helpful. lol
02:18 AM XXCoder: 40w? 60w>?
02:18 AM archivist: enough wattage to start house fires
02:18 AM GregB: This won't be in a house.
02:18 AM XXCoder: fine, set X on fire
02:18 AM GregB: Matter of fact, it'll be on a concrete slab with about 4' of room on every side.
02:19 AM GregB: ok, so lets throw all the BS out the window, what sort of wattage would I need to make my death-ray?
02:20 AM GregB: You know, the one where the laser could be fired and anything in it's path is utterly obliterated.
02:23 AM GregB: guys, that was a joke.
02:24 AM XXCoder: yeah?
02:24 AM XXCoder: damn'
02:24 AM XXCoder: sorry I already sent missle. cant recall it.
02:24 AM XXCoder: make peace with whatever beliefs you have
02:24 AM GregB: I just remember this movie, I think it's called congo
02:25 AM GregB: Where this lady throws a diamond into a laster and it goes on for what looks like a mile
02:25 AM GregB: just slices through rock, gorrilla's tree's, until she turns it off
02:25 AM GregB: and it's battery powered.
02:26 AM GregB: I remember thinking why did they have to screw up that science too?
02:26 AM XXCoder: hmm it missed. you life
02:26 AM XXCoder: *live
02:27 AM archivist: you need air blast to blow smoke and crap out of the cut (clearance behind)
02:27 AM GregB: Of course
02:27 AM GregB: I've got a pretty powerful Dust Collector, but was thinking if this was DIY, I might be able to hook in a shop vac
02:28 AM GregB: and just tie it into the power strip.
02:50 AM IchGucksLive: morning from a cold dusty germany
02:55 AM XXCoder: hey
03:12 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: ;-)
03:12 AM IchGucksLive: sunday
03:12 AM IchGucksLive: Happy Day
03:12 AM XXCoder: hmm 12:43 am yep sunday
03:13 AM IchGucksLive: good food lots of fun
03:13 AM IchGucksLive: so time to sleep at your playse
03:13 AM IchGucksLive: lpace
03:13 AM IchGucksLive: place
03:14 AM IchGucksLive: eng is not that good at that time
03:14 AM XXCoder: normally. I usually sleep at 4 am or so]
03:14 AM IchGucksLive: timie will change this
03:14 AM IchGucksLive: beleve me
03:15 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: how about camotics are you still not SImulatig
03:16 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: did you see the emblem of yesterdays V-carve
03:16 AM XXCoder: you made a vieo?
03:16 AM IchGucksLive: http://heimwerkermarkt-tretter.de/VG_wa.jpg
03:16 AM IchGucksLive: no only work image
03:17 AM XXCoder: ah new one, nice]
03:17 AM IchGucksLive: im still waiting to get the 60deg V bits
03:18 AM XXCoder: still waiting on 30 20 15 and 10 degree v bits here
03:18 AM IchGucksLive: to give the little carve lines more Depth
03:18 AM IchGucksLive: the 3,175
03:18 AM IchGucksLive: or the 8mm shafts
03:18 AM IchGucksLive: so you go PCB
03:20 AM IchGucksLive: 10deg is a nightmare
03:20 AM IchGucksLive: same as 0,2mm cutters
03:20 AM XXCoder: yeah its part of package
03:20 AM XXCoder: 20 bits
03:24 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X.TRS0&_nkw=182446240363+&_sacat=0
03:24 AM IchGucksLive: the big ones
03:24 AM XXCoder: big allright heh
03:24 AM XXCoder: my V cutter 90 degree one is 13mm diameter
03:29 AM IchGucksLive: http://www.ebay.de/itm/V-Nutfraser-60-120-Schaft-6mm-V-Groove-Bit-fur-Graviermaschine-Frasmaschine-/152235369614
03:29 AM IchGucksLive: more big ones
03:30 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: on cnc PCB i like to go for a real 0,6-0,8mm cutter
03:31 AM IchGucksLive: same price but more stable
03:31 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: http://foengarage.de/pcb_milling.jpg
03:31 AM XXCoder: heh dont thibnk I will ever do pcb milling
03:31 AM XXCoder: dunno
03:32 AM IchGucksLive: Moni JesusAlos
03:32 AM IchGucksLive: JesusAlos: did you get the M152 and the others as you expect
03:33 AM JesusAlos: Hi
03:33 AM JesusAlos: Yes all ok. You where right about the space in M152 file
03:33 AM IchGucksLive: <- claps his sholder
03:33 AM JesusAlos: but there are a problem with scale program
03:34 AM JesusAlos: only scale XY not scale Z
03:34 AM IchGucksLive: for 3D part you need to scale different
03:36 AM JesusAlos: I see
03:36 AM JesusAlos: There are an other comand.
03:40 AM IchGucksLive: there is also a newer version by a other user of grecode
03:40 AM IchGucksLive: but its mainly 2D
03:41 AM JesusAlos: About scale, I only find -scale factor parameter
03:41 AM IchGucksLive: as i said its for 2D use
03:41 AM IchGucksLive: you shoudt right a simple python
03:41 AM IchGucksLive: in/out that ads the factors to the G-code
03:42 AM IchGucksLive: as in the startup file
03:43 AM IchGucksLive: #<scale>=1.0
03:43 AM IchGucksLive: X[5.95508*#<scale>] Y[20.54297*#<scale>]
03:43 AM JesusAlos: for each line
03:43 AM IchGucksLive: the python
03:43 AM IchGucksLive: shoudt load the file
03:44 AM JesusAlos: I undestand
03:44 AM IchGucksLive: split the line
03:44 AM IchGucksLive: This depends on POSTprozess
03:44 AM IchGucksLive: simple by " "
03:44 AM IchGucksLive: or "x" "y"
03:45 AM IchGucksLive: python is even able bto split by multiple
03:45 AM IchGucksLive: then fit it together
03:46 AM IchGucksLive: "X["+linesplit[2]+"*#<scale>] Y" + .......
03:46 AM IchGucksLive: if you know the post and it is always the same itr is easy
03:46 AM IchGucksLive: otherwise check the line
03:47 AM IchGucksLive: with if Else
03:47 AM IchGucksLive: if "(" in line: out.append
03:48 AM IchGucksLive: and so on
03:48 AM IchGucksLive: then as standard use a User Mcode
03:49 AM IchGucksLive: python 3dscale.py
03:50 AM JesusAlos: Other solution can be use grecode and write the code for scale Z axis
03:51 AM IchGucksLive: can also be done
03:53 AM JesusAlos: How was the exam with your about 150 student?
03:55 AM IchGucksLive: 650
03:55 AM IchGucksLive: and only 4 dident make it
03:55 AM XXCoder: 650 students?
03:56 AM IchGucksLive: we had first grade CNC examina Friday
03:58 AM IchGucksLive: JesusAlos: the grecode does not include z values to process at all so it is a hell to di the scae 3d there as y<u need to reride almost everything
03:58 AM IchGucksLive: do it in python
04:01 AM IchGucksLive: JesusAlos: if you still consider
04:01 AM IchGucksLive: do a -SCALE3D Xfactor,Yfactor,Zfactor
04:01 AM IchGucksLive: to get the best out of it
04:02 AM IchGucksLive: ok familie time as Sunday
04:02 AM IchGucksLive: OFF till 7pm Berlin toime
04:02 AM JesusAlos: IchGucksLive: Thank I will try to do in pyton
04:27 AM XXCoder: ugh
04:27 AM XXCoder: aliexpress sucks on figuring which stepper is stronger
04:27 AM XXCoder: so many different units used
04:27 AM XXCoder: good thing has this http://www.numberfactory.com/nf_torque.html
04:40 AM XXCoder: LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKWfW-MIRHc
05:31 AM luigi: hel
05:31 AM luigi: help
05:32 AM XXCoder: cant your brother help? mario?
05:51 AM jthornton: morning
05:51 AM XXCoder: hey
05:53 AM luigi: morning
05:55 AM luigi: you can get information on how to install step by step through Probe_Screen are a beginner
05:56 AM archivist: that sentence needs some rearrangement and other words
05:57 AM luigi: surely thank you very much
05:58 AM jthornton: hmm probe screen sounds like gommaccpppy
06:00 AM luigi: with ngcgui
06:01 AM jthornton: you want to install ngcgui?
06:02 AM luigi: no axis and github probe sceen
06:04 AM luigi: youtube MAGIC Maschine CNC shows how to do but I can not possibly jump a few steps
06:05 AM zeeshan: http://www.ebay.com/itm/332165246147?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
06:05 AM zeeshan: yess
06:05 AM zeeshan: waking up early in the morning was worth it :D
06:05 AM zeeshan: damn thing is 950 new :D
06:06 AM XXCoder: 10%
06:06 AM XXCoder: dang
06:08 AM archivist: I might have a couple of durometers :)
06:08 AM zeeshan: i just need one :D
06:08 AM jthornton: I use my thumb nail
06:08 AM archivist: one was full of rain water in a scrap yard, came up nice
06:09 AM XXCoder: that things so tall for my machine that might have one inch height left,.
06:09 AM XXCoder: makes it useless for me LOL
06:09 AM XXCoder: arch cleaned up nice eh
06:10 AM archivist: http://www.collection.archivist.info/searchv13.php?searchstr=pd+meter+wallace
06:11 AM XXCoder: hardness meter
06:11 AM archivist: rubber hardness is what a durometer measures
06:11 AM XXCoder: hh makes sense
06:11 AM XXCoder: was wondering how it would check metal hardness
06:13 AM archivist: these have a flat reference face and pointer that presses into the rubber
06:13 AM zeeshan: what is international rubber hardness :p
06:13 AM archivist: some random standard
06:14 AM archivist: what it says on the dial!
06:15 AM archivist: hmm no pics of the other 2
06:16 AM XXCoder: funny that it has short right below full
06:16 AM XXCoder: IRHD
06:16 AM archivist: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-HW-WALLACE-HARDNESS-METER-/201875826751
06:18 AM archivist: I have one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HARDNER-TESTER-FOR-RUBBER-/282390564297
06:22 AM zeeshan: nice =D
06:23 AM XXCoder: whats typical user case for rubber hardness testing?
06:23 AM XXCoder: tires?
06:23 AM archivist: rubber rollers for a printer was my first need
06:24 AM XXCoder: to test for rotting softening?
06:25 AM archivist: consistency of the "spring" across the roller else the paper skews
06:26 AM XXCoder: interesting
06:48 AM XXCoder: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NEMA-23-CNC-stepper-motor-308Oz-in-81mm-3-0A-CNC-stepping-motor/1750919342.html
06:48 AM XXCoder: pretty cheap
06:48 AM XXCoder: and double my current machine stepper strength
06:59 AM R2E4_bevins: morning
06:59 AM XXCoder: yo
07:00 AM R2E4_bevins: Got the remap working correctly........
07:01 AM XXCoder: nice! now doc it so hard
07:01 AM R2E4_bevins: just have to implement it in my scenario.
07:12 AM DavenportGuy: I would document all the unusual configurations I have done with linuxcnc but im afraid of what people would think of them ahahah
07:14 AM archivist: from antenna measuring to actual cnc machining
07:14 AM XXCoder: remap docs seem to be very underdone, you guys need to work on it
07:14 AM archivist: it needs users to fix docs too :)
07:14 AM DavenportGuy: I have a tapping unit I made which reads the stroke of a hydraulic cylinder with a linear encoder and then a servo motor linked to the linear encoder which rotates the spindle at a given ratio (TPI) so that way no matter how fast or slow the hydraulic spindle is extending, the servo follows in time... quite confusing
07:15 AM archivist: I suppose the hobbing is similar
07:15 AM DavenportGuy: the linear scale is a "jog" and the rotary encoder is on the spindle motor
07:17 AM XXCoder: arch yea. I'd do it if i was one who had to figure stuff out.
07:27 AM jthornton: yea someone that understands remap needs to work on the docs...
07:29 AM R2E4_bevins: The trick is to get the interpreter to suspend and sync
07:29 AM jthornton: did you learn a new trick?
07:29 AM R2E4_bevins: its very tricky because you pass arguments
07:29 AM R2E4_bevins: yes
07:30 AM jthornton: do tell
07:30 AM R2E4_bevins: you cant pass arguments
07:30 AM R2E4_bevins: or variables because to get the interpreter to suspend you need to yield a function
07:31 AM R2E4_bevins: but messes up my whole scheme because I did a whole bunch of functions and c alling them with an xml interface.....
07:32 AM R2E4_bevins: self.execute now works, but with no self.test, and this messes with my mind because how does it know it is not in milltask instance.
07:32 AM R2E4_bevins: its very weird
07:33 AM R2E4_bevins: https://pastebin.com/WWMV0ww7
07:33 AM R2E4_bevins: This works
07:34 AM R2E4_bevins: with calling it from toplevel with no self.task check.
07:35 AM R2E4_bevins: but you cant leave this function or it breaks
07:35 AM R2E4_bevins: So you have no sub structure
08:03 AM R2E4_bevins: self.task check has to be in toplevel
08:50 AM {HD} is now known as HD_NoBraces
08:57 AM HD_NoBraces is now known as {HD}
09:50 AM JT-Shop: yea a new annoying feature has been added to firefox
09:52 AM archivist: my internet is almost dead this afternoon, I can see gmail but not ebay
09:52 AM JT-Shop: sounds like a normal day for me lol
09:53 AM archivist: I can see the ISP status page, not a lot of good, cannot see a third party status page
09:54 AM archivist: cant see BBC pages either
09:55 AM Roguish: steaming 'Tour of Flanders' bike race, live
11:07 AM {HD}: Ugh. I am not in the mood to design and mill a new spindle holder.
11:56 AM djdelorie: today's revelation: my spare bldc driver board has everything needed to be an overvoltage dump controller! :-P
11:57 AM archivist: you designed it in and forgot ?
12:00 PM djdelorie: no, I mean I can wire up the dump resistors where the motor would have gone
12:01 PM djdelorie: the pcb has voltage monitoring and the load drivers already
12:01 PM djdelorie: so four driver boards - three for servos, one for dump resistors
12:03 PM djdelorie: then just rewrite the firmware to do the new function
12:03 PM djdelorie: "just" he says :-)
12:03 PM archivist: pfft a few minutes
12:04 PM archivist: put the smoke back in, redo from start
12:04 PM djdelorie: yeah, I still need to debug that. Other stuff came up, might be a while
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: hi from a not so cold sunnday
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: sunny
12:26 PM IchGucksLive: R2E4_bevins: ?
12:30 PM R2E4_bevins: yeah?
12:31 PM R2E4_bevins: IchGucksLive: yes?
12:31 PM IchGucksLive: i did see your upload
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: the task does not accept G53 moves on Auto
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: is that maybe the case
12:33 PM R2E4_bevins: I can try changing it. I also tried with yield INTERP_EXECUTE_FINISH, that worked right away and was able to use slef.execute
12:33 PM IchGucksLive: there are numberd parameters that gives you the offset so a simple Mcode can move you from where you are in G1 G54 to the tool change
12:34 PM R2E4_bevins: I have I have 6 moves I need to do
12:35 PM R2E4_bevins: but the yield can pass variables and it is tricky on when to use it
12:35 PM IchGucksLive: ok you are on it and you kow
12:39 PM IchGucksLive: R2E4_bevins: did you see the http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man1/iocontrol.1.html
12:39 PM tiwake: intel atom D510, good idea or bad idea for linuxCNC controller?
12:39 PM IchGucksLive: that have been set up for TC operations
12:40 PM IchGucksLive: there is a new one
12:40 PM R2E4_bevins: a new one?
12:40 PM IchGucksLive: iocontrol-v2
12:41 PM R2E4_bevins: IS it in the dev docs?
12:41 PM IchGucksLive: the documentation of the parameter fix at TC says page 201 on the 2.7.8
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/pdf/ the second file
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: first 11M
12:42 PM R2E4_bevins: I seen the docs ref it but found no supporting documentation on it
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: im not on the mashine
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: Try load it and see if its there
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: if it is man will have the documentation
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: Toolchanger fault code. Used with the iocontrol-v2 component
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: 8.6.11.2 M6: change_prolog and change_epilog
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: Note that the use of M61 currently requires the use of iocontrol-v2.
12:47 PM R2E4_bevins: I saw that note also
12:47 PM IchGucksLive: the RELOAD_ON_CHANGE feature is fairly broken
12:48 PM R2E4_bevins: I dont know how that will help my situation.
12:48 PM djdelorie: do light bulbs make decent load dump resistors? They're a lot cheaper than high-power resistors, and locally available...
12:48 PM R2E4_bevins: I just got the interpreter to respond this morning. going to take a day or so and see if my code will work
12:58 PM tiwake: djdelorie: yes, they work well...
12:58 PM djdelorie: sweet
12:58 PM djdelorie: and who doesn't like blinky lights? ;-)
12:58 PM tiwake: djdelorie: I know a lot of people that test their radios by broadcasting to a lightbulb, instead of an antenna
12:59 PM tiwake: (by a lot I mean 3 or more people)
12:59 PM tiwake: (heh)
01:06 PM andypugh: djdelorie: Oven elements, kettle elements…
01:06 PM djdelorie: yup, but less convenient than light bulbs ;-)
01:07 PM djdelorie: probably less fragile though
01:07 PM andypugh: And 3kW light bulbs are more expensive than kettles.
01:08 PM djdelorie: I figured three 100W halogens, each running at 2/3 duty cycle (because it's a three-phase driver)
01:09 PM andypugh: https://www.thelightbulb.co.uk/1200watt-240volt-gx9-5-fwt-t29
01:09 PM djdelorie: that's a 2 amp dump, and the motors are 2.5 amp continuous
01:10 PM djdelorie: so it's about the same size load as the driver board is designed for
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: im off Gn8 from Germany
01:41 PM Crom_: On the road again... I'm not driving for once
01:43 PM Crom_: Just bought a Netgear WNDR4300 A/G rig... I'll be putting dd-wrt on it
01:43 PM Crom_: $10
01:49 PM Loetmichel: andypugh: i use 2000W halogen bulbs for floodlights as braking resistors
01:49 PM Loetmichel: cheap as fuck and works well
01:49 PM Loetmichel: only probnlem is that you have to shield them from dirty fingers
01:50 PM andypugh: I made a heat-treatment furnace out of those once.
01:52 PM Crom_: Loetmichel: shhesza cold those bulbs are like 0.01 ohm
01:52 PM Loetmichel: Crom_: no
01:53 PM Loetmichel: about 2 ohms wen cold
01:53 PM Loetmichel: +h
01:54 PM Loetmichel: about 30 ohms when red hot
01:54 PM Loetmichel: s/red/white
01:57 PM Loetmichel: the good thing is that you can put them in a steel or aluminium tube that has some (a lot of) holes drilled in it so that there is airflow and then use them as a resistor without worrying that they get to hot. the bulb itself can withstand temperatures close to the melting point of quartz glass
01:58 PM Loetmichel: ... as opposed to "normal" high power resistors which start to melt or at least smell bad at 300°c or less
01:58 PM SpeedEvil: andypugh: I've got links for a furnace that melts brick using them
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: how about using nichrome?
01:59 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: for me its to much work to make a holder for that
02:00 PM Loetmichel: its easier to misuse some of these "tube bulbs"
02:01 PM Loetmichel: there are even ceramic holders for less than 10 bucks readily aviable at home depot or similar
02:04 PM CaptHindsight: what % of the energy is converted to the visible spectrum vs IR (>750nm)?
02:04 PM Crom_: Ok oil into the car, back to the freeway heading mostly south
02:07 PM CaptHindsight: looks like 2.5% into the visible spectrum
02:08 PM Crom_: I seem to remember a furnance using nichrome looped thru fire bricks. He uses a carbide 3/8 ball on the end of a 3/16 shaft to make tunnels for the nichrome wire coil to sit in.
02:09 PM CaptHindsight: who had the Sailfish phone? PM me if you want
02:19 PM Crom_: Hmmm. Gonna think me a pattern to put on a brick to allow stacking, corners, and slots for hangers
02:19 PM SpeedEvil: CaptHindsight: I ha(ve) one.
02:20 PM CaptHindsight: SpeedEvil: I was just looking at the logs. I asked about this a year ago
02:21 PM CaptHindsight: how is it working out?
02:21 PM SpeedEvil: Due to reasons I haven't been using it. Not to do with the phone, simply I haven't required a phone.
02:21 PM SpeedEvil: And unable to properly work on the dev side as I'd have liked.
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: not sure which road to go down, LineageOS or Sailfish
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: looking both over again
02:24 PM CaptHindsight: someone here was also getting the Intex Aqua Fish
02:25 PM SpeedEvil: not here
02:25 PM lilug: good evening
02:26 PM CaptHindsight: since last year CyanogenMod forked to LineageOS
02:31 PM tiwake: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/75030-ecc-memory-amds-ryzen-deep-dive.html
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: yeah not validated on the consumer platform so it might work for you
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: will just get better as the process gets better
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: like unlocking cores
02:33 PM tiwake: that article validates it though, or do you mean when manufacturing the processors?
02:33 PM CaptHindsight: official support/warranty
02:33 PM tiwake: oh
02:34 PM tiwake: who cares about that
02:34 PM tiwake: the best support is self-support
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: if ECC is working how do you know when it's broken? :)
02:35 PM tiwake: ask linux if its functioning correctly
02:35 PM tiwake: thats the purpose of have the extra flipflops on each bit of memory
02:36 PM tiwake: but it won't help if the motherboard traces are not there going to the memory controller
02:37 PM CaptHindsight: I want ECC for a laptop
02:39 PM Crom_: I should have brought a laptop instead of this tablet
02:40 PM Crom_: Gotta find my inverter and hard wire it into the car
02:42 PM Crom_: This not multitasking between iirc and chrome is totally rotten, stinky, fly covered carp
02:43 PM tiwake: Crom_: its why I like SailfishOS
02:43 PM Crom_: This is on an ipad 3
02:44 PM Crom_: I have a 10" bricked sylvania table... That I've given up on resorecting
02:44 PM Crom_: Effen speel correct
02:45 PM Crom_: Tablet
02:46 PM Crom_: And I haven't found a way to keep the BT keyboard from falling off so quick
02:52 PM CaptHindsight: I had some Sylvania netbooks/laptops
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: they used Atom cpu's though
02:53 PM Crom_: This is a infotec sylania branded tablet
02:54 PM CaptHindsight: i would not be suprised to find the BT timeout hard coded even though it's not supposed to be
02:54 PM Crom_: Think it's a qualcom processor
02:55 PM CaptHindsight: is anyone making a netbook or tablet with the Rpi3's cpu?
02:55 PM CaptHindsight: other than the print your own case with a glue gun projects?
02:55 PM Crom_: Soon as I can afford a touch screen
02:56 PM Crom_: Soon as my integrated steppers get here... I can start work on a case at least for the bottom.
03:17 PM Crom_: Going into possible cell black hole
03:31 PM snowman: I am running ubuntu 10.04 linuxcnc I want to move up to 12.04 is there an easy way to do this without loosing all my configs?
03:33 PM JT-Shop: Ubuntu is not supported any more... license issues
03:33 PM snowman: Is anyone here?
03:33 PM snowman: ohh
03:34 PM snowman: So if I want to run a modern version of Linux cnc what are my choices?
03:34 PM JT-Shop: all your files will be in depending on your version linuxcnc or emc directories
03:35 PM snowman: Yep
03:35 PM JT-Shop: the official os is debian wheezy, but I don't care for it so I use Linux Mint with the Mate desktop
03:36 PM Crom_: I used Debian 8.7 with kernel 4.9.13-rt and linuxcnc 2.8.0-nosebleed
03:37 PM Crom_: Beta linuxcnc in other words
03:37 PM JT-Shop: all those silly names never made any sense to me at least ubuntu was year.month easier to remember
03:37 PM snowman: Im not going to play the nosebleed game, I not good enough with linux
03:38 PM Crom_: It was fun getting going.... Computer wouldn't boot on the new kernel... Had to fix that and a ton of other problems
03:38 PM JT-Shop: the forum has a post on setting up Linux Mint and shameless plugging I sell hard drives with Linux Mint and LinuxCNC installed
03:39 PM snowman: That is the kind of thing that scares me
03:39 PM JT-Shop: the simple way is to just get the dvd download and install that
03:39 PM snowman: I just want a moder version of linux that I can use for other things in the shop when not running the cnc
03:40 PM snowman: If I do a new install of wheezy and copy my current config files it should just run?
03:41 PM Crom_: Hmmm I. Tend to setup a machine and once it's working try to get an insanely high uptime... Once it's working.... Which is the fun part
03:41 PM JT-Shop: you would need to check the upgrade notes from your version to the current version
03:42 PM JT-Shop: you might have to make a few changes in your ini file
03:42 PM snowman: When you say version you are talking about Linuxcnc version right?
03:43 PM JT-Shop: aye
03:43 PM snowman: ok
03:43 PM snowman: let the games begin :)
03:44 PM JT-Shop: what version of linuxcnc are you using
03:44 PM snowman: I will go check...brb
03:45 PM snowman: 2.6.13
03:46 PM JT-Shop: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/getting-started/updating-linuxcnc.html
03:47 PM JT-Shop: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/getting-started/updating-linuxcnc.html#_updating_configuration_files
03:52 PM snowman: so that will upgrade linuxcnc for me which is not a problem, but I am running lucid and I would like to upgrade that also.
03:53 PM snowman: so if I am thinking this out right, I can upgrade linuxcnc to the latest version
03:53 PM zeeshan: http://i.imgur.com/Fb80aIE.png
03:53 PM zeeshan: i wonder if im going in the right direction with my outdoorsman stove
03:54 PM zeeshan: its collapses into one sheet
03:54 PM zeeshan: cause itll all be hinged
03:54 PM zeeshan: hm
03:54 PM snowman: Then save all the config files, install wheezy from new
03:55 PM snowman: Then put all the config files in there appropriate places
03:55 PM snowman: make sure the parallel port loads properly
04:09 PM Deejay: gn8
04:11 PM JT-Shop: and check the second link I gave you to see if you need to change anything in your config
04:12 PM JT-Shop: zeeshan: a rocket stove!
04:12 PM JT-Shop: what are all the extra holes for?
04:19 PM zeeshan: primary combustion
04:19 PM zeeshan: secondary and tertiary combustion
04:20 PM zeeshan: im gonna put a lid on the side where the wood gets fed
04:24 PM R2E4_bevins: hiya's
04:28 PM Crom_: Nice... My stove for camping is a bit bigger... Harbor freight stopped selling it
04:33 PM Crom_: Http://hfreviews.com/thumbnails/99861.gif
04:43 PM * Wolf_ packs light when camping… http://i.imgur.com/jyJxMbo.jpg
04:44 PM zeeshan: lol
04:47 PM Wolf_: now to go find some straps in the shop and go pick up some tool boxes
04:47 PM Crom_: Pretty light... No bed on the truck must save so much weight!
04:48 PM Wolf_: the hydraulic hook on there is about 1500lbs on its own lol
04:48 PM chopper79: Anybody have any experiences with SHARS vises? http://www.ebay.com/itm/331025541348?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
04:48 PM Crom_: Oh yea.... That's your snagger truck
04:49 PM Wolf_: yup, bolted the 5th wheel unit right to the hook lift frame rails lol
04:51 PM Crom_: chopper79: chrisb old mans shop on you tube has one of them. He hasn't complained much about it
04:52 PM chopper79: I will check it out... I am needing a pair of vises to start out with so I can build the fund for a pair of Kurts or something close.
04:52 PM chopper79: Thanks
04:53 PM XXCoder: I feel like zombie that just got out of grave
04:53 PM XXCoder: jeez
04:57 PM Roguish: chopper79: not vises, but I just got some pull studs, and they look just fine.
04:57 PM Roguish: Shars.
05:04 PM skunkworks: seems to pressurize.. http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20170402_162924.jpg
05:04 PM skunkworks: (needs to be able to pressurize to a few lbs - to push the oil up into the edm work area
05:04 PM skunkworks: )
05:06 PM skunkworks: chopper79, how is the spindle encoder going?
05:08 PM skunkworks: biab
05:11 PM snowman108: upgrade to 2.7 went well
05:18 PM rob_h: i got one them vises
05:18 PM rob_h: was on offer at MSC when got mine
05:19 PM rob_h: chopper79, its an OK vise if exspect a cheap vise for the money.. its not going to be the same as a ROHM or something but it does the job
05:20 PM rob_h: good holding power and does not lift alot on the jaws .. but id not put alot of pressure on a job in it as not a fixed back half and on mine casting is not grate quality
05:33 PM Crom_: `I believe that shars vice has the down clampmoving jaw similar to kurt vices
05:34 PM Crom_: Nowhere near the quality....
05:39 PM Crom_: There was someone on youtube, who took it apart and fixed alot of the issues it has. Cleaned up the clampng surfaces got the top and bottom parallel and recut the fixed jaw so it was perpendicular
05:45 PM R2E4_bevins: remap is coming together...... May be able to use all my code with some changes.
05:46 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:49 PM R2E4_bevins: self.execute is working, so can use M62-M66, so that makes it easier
05:51 PM R2E4_bevins: It would have been nice if the M62 and M63 was at the end of the next motion command instead of the beginning.
05:52 PM JT-Shop: you can have a do nothing motion command to fire the M62-66
05:52 PM R2E4_bevins: Just send a G0?
05:53 PM JT-Shop: I think I used a G0 X0 in incremental
05:55 PM R2E4_bevins: I would still need a wait command..... For example it takes time for the cover to open. But I can use M66 on the cover open input then fire the pocket up.
05:57 PM R2E4_bevins: I want to shy away from using delays because I have 12 feet of cutting table, would have to delay for example long enough to get to the position. I havent tried command.wait yet in the recent scenario.
05:58 PM R2E4_bevins: But at least getting it to this point is a big plus.... and there are more options open now for logic.
05:59 PM R2E4_bevins: What I ned to try is connecting a CL output to a digital input..... That would be ideal, cause I could do all m,y interlocking with CL.
06:01 PM chopper79: skunkworks: Going fine.... The new sensor is awesome and tomorrow I am working on the index portion.
06:03 PM chopper79: Crom_: rob_h: I understand and these vises would only be used unitl I can afford the 750 for a pair of Kurts.
06:04 PM chopper79: May not even use vises if I design some standoffs for my fixture plates. My preious mill the spindle face could reach the table. This one stops a few inches above so I am forced to come up with a solution.
06:06 PM chopper79: Need to raise the fixture plates about 3" off of table. No big deal as I have a bunch of 3x3 alum stock I could use to make the risers. Still like a vise though so I can do odd ball parts here and there. Not much of a vise guy.... I am a fixture guy.
06:09 PM chopper79: Side note... I used my borken 40w china laser cutter enclosure and made an incubator out of it for hatching my chicken eggs. not cnc related, but was aproject to do.
06:10 PM XXCoder: nice
06:20 PM * JT-Shop makes some nesting boxes for the yard hens
06:28 PM pcw_home: sigh, we lost 10 hens last year to foxes
06:30 PM JT-Shop: dang foxes
06:30 PM JT-Shop: sue akins makes them into pets
06:30 PM pcw_home: only 3 left (foxes got relocated so no more missing hens)
06:31 PM JT-Shop: are they free ranging hens
06:31 PM pcw_home: Yeah loose in our backyard (with closed coop for night)
06:31 PM pcw_home: we have coyotes occasionally but they are random hit//run
06:32 PM pcw_home: the foxes were relentless
06:32 PM JT-Shop: we have coyotes, foxes, black bear but they stay a bit deeper in the woods I think
06:33 PM JT-Shop: I need to get a couple of new chicks when I get back from the smokies
06:34 PM chopper79: Ours just run aroudn the back yard. They go home at night and always lay the eggs in their boxes in the coop.
06:34 PM * JT-Shop wanders inside now
06:34 PM pcw_home: Yeah we will try again with new chicks this year
06:34 PM * JT-Shop needs to build a coop
06:35 PM pcw_home: Guy at the feed store said the drought brought a lot more small predators closer to town
06:35 PM chopper79: We have not lost any hens to foxes, coons or anything else. Well the neighbors dog got a couple a year ago. We have a rooster now and that changed the dogs attitude quickly.
06:37 PM chopper79: Running our first batch of eggs in the DIY incubator. Looking forward to candling them in about 5 days to see if there is life. If so hope to have a few pullets to add to the flock after brooding.
06:37 PM pcw_home: I think our surviving hens are the ones that stayed closest to the roosters
06:37 PM pcw_home: there have been mountain lion sightings a mile or so away so I worry about our sheep but so far not larger predators
06:38 PM Frank_6: guys my stepper driver has "motor free+" and "motor free-" signal, my enable output from the 7i76 mesa card should be connected to the motor free+ pin right? beeing the 7i76 with sourcing type outputs
06:38 PM chopper79: Hope the sheep stay out of harms way. I was looking int goats last year and still have not made up my mind if I want to get a pair.
06:39 PM pcw_home: I really like our sheep and we just got the weed/sheep balance right
06:39 PM chopper79: nice....
06:40 PM chopper79: Wanted to add a couple turkey to the mix this year. Local supplier dd not have any so may hold off.
06:40 PM pcw_home: when we had 4 the weeds got ahead of them right about now, with 8 the back lot has no high weeds at all
06:41 PM chopper79: Frank_6: I believe so
06:41 PM pcw_home: we have wild turkeys here (imported for hunting many years ago)
06:42 PM chopper79: That would be great
06:42 PM pcw_home: I think the problem with the FREE+- lines is that the are a drive disable rather than enable
06:44 PM pcw_home: so you probably want them to be powered to _disable_ the drive
06:45 PM chopper79: Well all I am off for a bit. Family time is calling.
06:47 PM Crom_: Goats are great! Friend of mine has 5 goats, 5 kids < year old and 1 sheep, and one horse on 5 acres, but the animals also have access to the 6 acres next door
06:47 PM Crom_: And she sells the kids for $100-$150 per kid when she sells them 3 months after they wean
06:48 PM chopper79: I only have a couple acres so need to mind how much put on it. Still would like goats for weed control, milk, soap, butter, etc.
06:48 PM Frank_6: pcw_home: you are right, i havent noticed thanks
06:49 PM Crom_: chopper79: get a breeding pair and sell the kids of every year
06:49 PM chopper79: That is what I was thinking.
06:50 PM chopper79: Have been looking at  Nubian goats
06:50 PM Crom_: Might have to get hay once in awhile... And keep you fences in good repair. Fence any trees you don't want them in
06:50 PM chopper79: True
06:50 PM Crom_: That's what Tyra has.. VERY NICE breed! Not that big
06:50 PM chopper79: esacpe artist
06:51 PM Crom_: Little fsck'rs climb trees pretty good
06:51 PM chopper79: lol
06:51 PM chopper79: Seen pictures where they have found their way on roofs and such.
06:51 PM Crom_: No leaves within 7' of the ground
06:52 PM Crom_: Hello???? They're GOATS!
06:52 PM Crom_: Mountain goats are the fsck'r that found the mountains...
06:52 PM Crom_: Good eats too!
06:53 PM chopper79: Still thinking about it some more and making sure that it is a good fit for my current place in life. It is far more responsibility and time requirement then chickens.
06:54 PM Crom_: Wife and I drove into her place one day... ALL the goats were on top of the house... They hopped on a stump, onto a bench, onto the top of a drill press, to a ledge about 3" wide, that let them wal onto the roof
06:54 PM chopper79: Have a spare garage on my grounds that would work well for shelter and hay storage also.
06:55 PM Crom_: If you don't want kids hassles.. Get 2 boys... Fixed of course
06:56 PM Crom_: chopper79: where you located? She's in Riverside California... But goats do good in snow as well
06:56 PM chopper79: Need to put up a fence as we do not have one now. The chickens just run where they want. This would give me a chance to make a very good fence for live stock as well.
06:56 PM chopper79: Illinois
06:57 PM Crom_: 3 strand wn't work... 5 strand won't work.. Chain link 5' tall work, not 3' tall 4' is iffy
06:58 PM chopper79: I have a couple about 30min from me that raise  Nubians at their house. They use them for milk, cheese, soap etc as well and take great care of them. They are due to have some kids soon and charge about the same as you mentioned.
06:58 PM Crom_: Electric fence works, tie white ribbons to the wire... After 2 years... They think white ribbons on the wire make it electric...
06:59 PM chopper79: I will need the white ribbon myself to remind me not to piss on it.
07:00 PM Crom_: Heh
07:03 PM Crom_: With 2 boys... No soap, no milk.... So for soap, milk, butter, wool, hair, you need a breeding pair or trio
07:03 PM chopper79: Agreed
07:04 PM Crom_: AND you can rent them to neighbors!
07:05 PM chopper79: well... I have to get off now. Later all. If your on later we can pick back up, but right now my family calls.
07:06 PM Crom_: Laterz
07:06 PM Crom_: Yah... 35 minutes ish from the house...
07:24 PM roycroft: are you talking goats?
07:25 PM roycroft: i could use a couple for a week or so
07:26 PM Crom_: Wwe kwere
07:26 PM roycroft: i'm in oregon, unfortunately
07:27 PM roycroft: shipping would be prohibative
07:27 PM roycroft: i don't know how much fedex charge to ship a goat, but i'm sure it's a lot
07:27 PM roycroft: especially since the goat would try to eat the truck
07:28 PM roycroft: i think there's a local rent-a-goat outfit
07:28 PM roycroft: there used to be, for sure
07:31 PM Crom_: Nubians are a really nice sized goat. Get a dog fence the one made out of decent wire panels. Wire top at that keeps the goats from eating truck.
07:32 PM Crom_: Next time you head for virginia city or Reno , NV... I can hook you up with goats
07:35 PM Crom_: Well this summer..
07:36 PM roycroft: i haven't been to reno in a while
07:36 PM roycroft: i like reno
07:37 PM roycroft: i only need the goats for a week or so though
07:37 PM roycroft: i have some brambles where i do not want brambles
07:37 PM roycroft: and there is no better way to get rid of them than with goats
07:54 PM Wolf_: great, now I need to clean the garage up more so I have a place to put these tool boxes
08:57 PM zeeshan: wolf what did you buy
08:57 PM zeeshan: :D
09:07 PM Cromaglious_: roycroft, get some goats then sell them...
09:08 PM Cromaglious_: or setup a kid with a pickup as the goat rental... and make maney with them
09:08 PM roycroft: i do like goat milk and goat milk cheese
09:09 PM Cromaglious_: home sweet home...
09:09 PM roycroft: i live in the city though
09:09 PM roycroft: and while it's legal to raise goats in city limits, my property is too small for that to make sense
09:10 PM roycroft: if i ever move out of town to a larger property, though, i'll seriously consider getting some goats
09:10 PM Cromaglious_: download dd-wrt for the netgear router
09:10 PM chopper79: Goat conversation is still going
09:10 PM Cromaglious_: Goats are good...
09:10 PM roycroft: goats are good, mmkay?
09:11 PM Cromaglious_: they make tastey things, they taste yummy when you butcher them as well (usually the younger males)
09:13 PM Cromaglious_: for a good breeding program, you need 2 different lines though. 2 fertile boys and bunches of unrelated girls
09:13 PM chopper79: Sounds like high school
09:14 PM Cromaglious_: nah... Goats are randier than any high schooler
09:14 PM chopper79: lol
09:15 PM chopper79: I will do it next year. Give me this year to finish other projects and build a good solid fence for them. My kids will have a lot of fun with them along with my hound.
09:15 PM chopper79: Got to make a mountain of chips to pay for all this
09:16 PM chopper79: Speaking of paying for stuff.... I need to start saving for my annual fireworks show.
09:17 PM Cromaglious_: wooo goat cart!!!!
09:17 PM Cromaglious_: get them harness trained!
09:17 PM chopper79: oh yes
09:18 PM Cromaglious_: funniest thing I ever did see, was a team of 6 goats pulling a mini wells fargo wagon
09:18 PM chopper79: haha
09:19 PM Cromaglious_: stage coach!
09:19 PM chopper79: Hmm.... Just got a craving for tacos
09:19 PM chopper79: random I know
09:20 PM Cromaglious_: goat taco's mmmmm
09:21 PM chopper79: Well.... I am going to leave and get tacos. Then try to hit the sack and get more then 4hrs of sleep tonight.
09:21 PM roycroft: there was a lot of soldered in ram in the late '70s through mid-'80s
09:21 PM Jymmm: chopper79: ...then MORE tacos!
09:21 PM roycroft: ack, mischan
09:21 PM Cromaglious_: Tyra just crossed over at Mamoth... going up to Virginia city, and region for the next 2 weeks.... getting everything in gear for her to become Virginia City's Black Smith
09:25 PM Cromaglious_: uploading dd-wrt now
09:29 PM Cromaglious_: lady blacksmiths are actually very period! going back into the 1400's and earlier... husband dies, she keep smithing... doesn't get re married...
09:29 PM chopper79: Have a good night all
09:30 PM Cromaglious_: nite nite
09:35 PM Cromaglious_: still waiting for DD-wrt and netgear to reboot
10:07 PM Cromaglious_: YES! MyLan5 and MyLan5G now up and running
11:00 PM zeeshan: http://i.imgur.com/UYUKyto.png
11:00 PM zeeshan: finally got it to collapse
11:00 PM zeeshan: into one piece
11:00 PM zeeshan: :D
11:00 PM XXCoder: yo
11:00 PM XXCoder: huh
11:00 PM zeeshan: hi
11:00 PM XXCoder: ah collipsable oven eh
11:00 PM XXCoder: grill
11:01 PM zeeshan: yes
11:19 PM evilren: huh
11:19 PM evilren: i wonder how well the piano hinges deal with the heat
11:22 PM zeeshan: ur mom
11:22 PM zeeshan: whoops wrong chan :)
11:23 PM zeeshan: XXCoder: did you see the polished knife?
11:23 PM XXCoder: yeah
11:23 PM XXCoder: looked great!
11:23 PM XXCoder: I still havent decided on fake knife design
11:23 PM zeeshan: you really should make one too man
11:23 PM zeeshan: its a pretty fun thing to do
11:23 PM XXCoder: plemty of time as machine cant cut alum
11:23 PM zeeshan: and really satisfying
11:24 PM XXCoder: (later it will)
11:27 PM Wolf_: zeeshan: more kennedy boxes
11:29 PM roycroft: i've been looking for a kennedy intermediate box for a long time
11:30 PM XXCoder: kenndy boxes?
11:30 PM roycroft: nobody ever seems to sell those, except as part of a set
11:30 PM Wolf_: picked up 2bottom one intermediate 2 drawer and a top, no pics yet they are still on the trailer
11:31 PM Wolf_: and both bottom boxes are full of hand tools
11:31 PM roycroft: folks around here also ask almost retail for old beat up kennedys
11:31 PM zeeshan: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-tool-storage-bench/guelph/kennedy-toolbox-with-new-endmils/1251267449
