12:03 AM Wolf_: https://www.ecomfort.com/Mitsubishi-MXZ-5C42NAHZ/p30756.html?utm_term=3075630756&var1=ecomfortusa&var2=adwordsfroogle&var3=27522&keyword=GOOGLEPLA-27522&gclid=Cj0KEQjwzd3GBRDks7SYuNHi3JEBEiQAIm6EIzrqp10acXXwGs1bKSlENeGbPS3ARnHDoKyPob7EJ3IaAotC8P8HAQ'
12:05 AM Wolf_: rated to 5°F and has heater for -13°F
12:05 AM jym: Wolf_: how many ndoor unts do you have?
12:05 AM Wolf_: 5
12:05 AM jym: does the "whole house" feel evenly heated?
12:05 AM Wolf_: dunno, its still in a pile of boxes lol
12:05 AM jym: oh, lol
12:05 AM Wolf_: but I’ll have 3 heat sources so I’m figuring I’m covered lol
12:05 AM jym: Wolf_: how much for ALL of the mini split?
12:05 AM Wolf_: mini split will probably end up just being AC
12:05 AM Wolf_: total system cost, like $7k in hardware
12:05 AM jym: ok
12:05 AM jym: shipped?
12:07 AM jym: 10000/220=45A
12:07 AM Wolf_: back up gen set is the last thing on my list
12:08 AM Wolf_: I’m on a main grid line so if my power is out, so is half the county
12:09 AM jym: There is a 10 and 12KW too https://www.amazon.com/DuroMax-XP5500EH-Propane-Portable-Generator/dp/B01MR3N1YX/
12:09 AM jym: gasoline/propane
12:09 AM Wolf_: I figured I would see what the actual draw is of the house once everything is in it, then pick the gen set
12:10 AM Crom: 27amps per leg
12:10 AM Crom: on mine
12:10 AM Wolf_: and figure out if I want to drop a 1500 gallon LPG tank in the yard
12:10 AM jym: 1500?
12:10 AM jym: or 250 ?
12:11 AM Wolf_: one that is the size of a small car lol
12:11 AM jym: 250 is
12:11 AM jym: typical size actually
12:11 AM jym: that gen does both gas and propane
12:11 AM Wolf_: 500 is common in the dual areas I’m in
12:12 AM jym: get three of em =)
12:12 AM Wolf_: rural even*
12:14 AM Wolf_: I have thought about just getting a miller welder/gen 12kW diesel and a farm tank so I can just buy fuel in bulk price
12:17 AM jym: great if you have disel cars too
12:17 AM Wolf_: yup, car, truck, bobcat
12:38 AM Crom: I'd love to have this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgDsGaVMje4
12:38 AM Crom: air start... Scare the CRAP out someone next to you...
12:40 AM Crom: put a Ford Superduty cab on that frame and lose the cab over
12:40 AM XXCoder: "air start"?
12:40 AM Crom: starter is basically a 1" air impact with out the impact hammers
12:41 AM Crom: using compressed air to spin the engine instead of a 12vdc motor
12:42 AM Crom: kinda screwed if you lose the compressor or spring a leak and lose all your air pressure
12:43 AM Crom: about a 50gallon air tanl
12:43 AM XXCoder: interestin
12:43 AM XXCoder: why did they use that and not some dc motor?
12:44 AM Crom: spins the motor kinda fast... so it starts easy
12:45 AM Crom: it'll spin a cold engine at like 600rpm... alot faster than a dc motor
12:45 AM XXCoder: hmm cool
12:46 AM Crom: used to be real common on 2 stroke Detroit Diesels
12:46 AM archivist: some air starts charge the cylinders with air, they come up silently
12:47 AM Crom: Granddad had a Detroit in his RV with air start
12:47 AM Crom: archivist, those tend to be REALLY big engines
12:47 AM Crom: like train sized
12:47 AM archivist: erm mebe :)
12:48 AM archivist: was standing next to one at a sewage works, it goes from silent to onload in seconds
12:48 AM Crom: yep
12:49 AM Crom: but idle is how few RPM? 60
12:49 AM Crom: '?
12:49 AM archivist: and I have started a couple of antique engines, a single and a twin that way
12:49 AM Wolf_: 300-400~
12:50 AM archivist: the big stationary engines dont bother with idle they just come onto load
12:51 AM archivist: most are direct coupled to the pump or generator
12:51 AM Crom: true... The little gas engines built into the old cat bulldozer are neat too
12:52 AM archivist: the Brush I used to play with had about a 3 ton flywheel
12:54 AM Crom: My pops started one his Army Reserve unit had in 1972 at the summer camp during load out. Only took an hour to get running...
12:55 AM archivist: yup building up pressure in the tank for start is the slow bit, you were supposed to store pressure from the last run overnight in the old days
12:55 AM Crom: I want to get down to the Vista Gas and steam engine museum when they fire up the old Cataline Island generator engine...
12:56 AM archivist: I used to volunteer at a museum where the Brush is
12:58 AM Crom: the cat was the gas engine starter... hit the compression release on the diesel, start the gas engine, engage the clutch and start spinning the diesel. let it get up to temp and oil pressure up, then shut the compression release... started first time... he let it run for 45 minutes on the gas without compression to warm it up... while we had lunch...
12:58 AM archivist: one of these https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brush_flat-twin_diesel_engine,_Snibston.jpg
01:00 AM Crom: ahh that's opened up... pretty engine there
01:01 AM Crom: oh cool! 1:2 worm gear for the valve train
01:03 AM archivist: it is in http://www.nottinghamindustrialmuseum.co.uk/
01:06 AM archivist: trouble with museum we sites, "hide the best bits make them visit"
01:06 AM archivist: we web
01:08 AM Crom: yep
01:09 AM archivist: and I was ding that before digital cameras so I have no pics
01:09 AM archivist: doing
01:18 AM XXCoder: i was wondering
01:18 AM XXCoder: since linuxcnc has cnc interpeter and everything
01:18 AM XXCoder: why cant it simulate cut?
01:18 AM XXCoder: aka define a material block and it cuts it into part
01:18 AM archivist: if you search hard enough you will find an example somewhere of it doing that
01:19 AM XXCoder: really? ok will look
01:19 AM archivist: but it needs fixing to be general purpose and it has a bug when I last looked
01:23 AM XXCoder: my computer has it run stuff but theres nothing on simulating cuts on material
01:23 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpaywPSqsbo
01:27 AM XXCoder: I think I found more info
01:27 AM XXCoder: vismach
01:31 AM archivist: vismach is something that works but is not the cut simulator
01:32 AM archivist: it may only be in the source distribution and older ones at that
01:33 AM XXCoder: theres videos of it cutting part
01:33 AM XXCoder: wonder why its not used now
01:36 AM XXCoder: so whats good linux cnc cut simulator?
01:38 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tA-W7nTNSc
01:38 AM XXCoder: that ones pretty close to 9 years old
01:39 AM archivist: you forgot I dont watch videos on this box (cannot)
01:39 AM XXCoder: yep did. sorry
01:40 AM archivist: see openscam (it has a new name)
01:40 AM XXCoder: camotics refuse to work on my computer.
01:40 AM XXCoder: thats why im been looking
01:40 AM archivist: file a bug
01:44 AM XXCoder: "camotics: error while loading shared libraries: libv8.so.3.14.5: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
01:44 AM XXCoder: "
01:45 AM archivist: well that seems obvious to me
01:46 AM archivist: you downloaded the wrong one for your os
01:46 AM XXCoder: possibly
01:48 AM archivist: 32 v 64 bit
01:49 AM XXCoder: 64bit: camotics: symbol lookup error: camotics: undefined symbol: _ZN7QString13toUtf8_helperERKS_ yep same as before
01:49 AM XXCoder: I tried 32 bit to see if any change and yeah it just fails earlier
01:50 AM archivist: some junk is expecting your OS to be later than x
01:53 AM XXCoder: fun hunting so far
01:56 AM XXCoder: ah my qt opackage is broken
02:05 AM XXCoder: downloading 64 bit 5.8.0 of qt
02:05 AM XXCoder: 4.8.6 on machine
02:23 AM XXCoder: yep
02:23 AM XXCoder: camotics recently changed to qt5 and it broke when system only has qt4
02:23 AM XXCoder: like say, mine
02:43 AM Deejay: moin
02:46 AM XXCoder: hey
02:46 AM XXCoder: archivist: think im finally solving it
03:44 AM IchGucksLive: morning from cold but sunny germany
03:45 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: did you expirience the same problem
03:45 AM XXCoder: what problem?
03:45 AM IchGucksLive: camotics
03:45 AM XXCoder: if its camotics yeah still havent solved
03:45 AM IchGucksLive: what a miss i did connectr jhon
03:46 AM IchGucksLive: your part came out cool
03:46 AM XXCoder: it does look cool
03:47 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: did you see the coment on the vid
03:47 AM XXCoder: evenually want to trim the floor connectors and frame it? dunno lol
03:47 AM XXCoder: yeah and commented there also lol
03:48 AM MacGalempsy: hello
03:48 AM XXCoder: hey big mac
03:49 AM MacGalempsy: how is the routing?
03:49 AM XXCoder: it went great yserday. seen video?
03:49 AM MacGalempsy: no
03:49 AM XXCoder: I dont really feel like doing much today, I wanted to work on trying inlays but camotics refuse to work
03:49 AM MacGalempsy: link me
03:49 AM XXCoder: its at https://youtu.be/xF8erDoJlsY
03:50 AM MacGalempsy: i made a 1hr drive for a coffee grinder, got back and the bloody thing dont work :(
03:50 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: i first did read or think about the famos acctor#s sun doing cnc stoff
03:51 AM XXCoder: robert?
03:51 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: did you get luck on qt5
03:51 AM IchGucksLive: yes robert
03:51 AM MacGalempsy: looks good. time for a vacuum shroud
03:51 AM IchGucksLive: grand son maybe
03:51 AM XXCoder: nah robert is completely unrelated
03:52 AM XXCoder: mac first thing is to make enclosure for electics
03:52 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
03:52 AM XXCoder: its dangerously exposed
03:52 AM MacGalempsy: dont buy a cuisnart burr grinder
03:52 AM XXCoder: I dont drink coffee so no problem. :D
03:52 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: oh enclosure is michis main part
03:52 AM IchGucksLive: the solder michie ;-) here
03:53 AM XXCoder: yeah im still waiting for parts for it. I hgave all 2020s for it but missing many other stuff.
03:53 AM XXCoder: and also just ordered standoffs
03:53 AM MacGalempsy: good thing i got some preground, or id be up a creek with no caffine
03:53 AM IchGucksLive: ok im off
03:53 AM MacGalempsy: bye
03:53 AM XXCoder: later ich
03:53 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: leave a log massage if you solfed the camotics
03:54 AM MacGalempsy: the best part of the day was finishing up my shopping and getting a call from the rig that they were coming out of the hole
03:54 AM MacGalempsy: so I went and got a steak dinner :D
03:55 AM XXCoder: lol
03:55 AM XXCoder: I think i finally figured how to do inlay
03:55 AM MacGalempsy: it takes like 24hrs for a full trip
03:56 AM XXCoder: its pretty strightforward if I think about it
03:56 AM MacGalempsy: you will need a bit with a shoulder
03:56 AM XXCoder: bit with shoulder? also 24 hours to pull out of hole?
03:57 AM XXCoder: well and return
03:57 AM MacGalempsy: that video you showed was a V BIT
03:57 AM MacGalempsy: so you will need a 90deg corner for a flush inlay
03:57 AM XXCoder: that tool is 90 degrees
03:57 AM XXCoder: but also nope, i have seen 20 degree ones making flush inlay
03:58 AM XXCoder: I ordered group of 30 20 15 and 10 degree tools
03:58 AM MacGalempsy: 90 deg point. i was thibking more like astraight endmill
03:59 AM XXCoder: ahh yeah regular inlay, the easy type
03:59 AM XXCoder: but if you want inlay with sharp corners
03:59 AM XXCoder: you need more pointy tools
03:59 AM XXCoder: it would move upwards as it goes to corners
03:59 AM XXCoder: and inverse removes most of it
04:00 AM XXCoder: so inlay is flush and makes very nice inlay with tons sharp corners
04:00 AM MacGalempsy: rough cnc then use chisels to make sharp corners
04:00 AM MacGalempsy: what!? manual cutting?!
04:01 AM XXCoder: never said anything about manual nor chisel
04:01 AM MacGalempsy: i noticed that :p
04:02 AM MacGalempsy: what about laser cut corners
04:02 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvnIGrXBAKQ inlay
04:03 AM XXCoder: good stuff starts at 5:26 as he shows simulated cnc cuts, and later shwos final result for cut and its inverse
04:03 AM MacGalempsy: battery about dead. got to go to out to my truck in the bathrobe. lol brb
04:03 AM XXCoder: watch out winds lol
04:04 AM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/d4992bEoNYI?t=97 different one, very clear picture on inlay and its invese
04:06 AM R2E4_bevins1: I use v-bits for inlay alot..... It works great.
04:07 AM XXCoder: r2 yeah took me while to fgure that inlay should be inside cut and inverse is center cut
04:07 AM XXCoder: so they aligns
04:07 AM XXCoder: but I still havent figured how to set depths so there is small gap
04:07 AM XXCoder: so easier to cut apart
04:07 AM R2E4_bevins1: What cam are you using?
04:07 AM XXCoder: estlcam
04:08 AM R2E4_bevins1: I face the male part .02 and never had a problem
04:09 AM MacGalempsy: changing to tab brb
04:09 AM R2E4_bevins1: I use a 90 degree vbit, this guy is using 60 degree
04:10 AM XXCoder: I ordered 30 20 15 and 10 degrees
04:10 AM XXCoder: because why not
04:10 AM XXCoder: male is what i call inverse? the one that will be filling holes in inlay?
04:10 AM XXCoder: wb
04:11 AM XXCoder: heres link I wanted to show MacGalempsy https://youtu.be/d4992bEoNYI?t=97
04:11 AM MacGalempsy: Thanks
04:12 AM R2E4_bevins1: I dont do it like he is though. He uses bandsaw to spilt.
04:13 AM MacGalempsy: That's pretty cool
04:13 AM R2E4_bevins1: I make the male longer so there is space between the two board so I can cut it with a jap saw
04:13 AM XXCoder: how how make it deeper without it cutting more into design>?
04:13 AM XXCoder: how do you do math to move cut outward to account for increased depth>
04:14 AM MacGalempsy: https://flic.kr/p/T565Ts
04:14 AM MacGalempsy: Look at all the pipe stands.
04:15 AM MacGalempsy: They are all the way out of the hole.
04:15 AM XXCoder: giant smoke pipe
04:15 AM XXCoder: so many pipes, I guess its very deep
04:16 AM MacGalempsy: The rig is every druggie's dream... dope comes in 5 gallon buckets, joints are 30ft long and each one has a pusher.
04:18 AM MacGalempsy: So each one of those is called a stand. They are about 90ft long (3× 30ft joints)
04:19 AM MacGalempsy: We are at ~15k ft. Planned total depth is~22k ft
04:21 AM XXCoder: dang
04:22 AM MacGalempsy: When we finish, I'll have 3-4 days before the next one.
04:23 AM MacGalempsy: They skid the rig over 30'
04:25 AM XXCoder: just move 30 feet and drill again>?
04:26 AM XXCoder: R2E4_bevins1: how do you align male part so it is cut deeper but still matches female side?
04:28 AM MacGalempsy: Yeah. This pad will have 2 wells. The last location had 4 wells. I have designed some with 8
04:31 AM XXCoder: interestng
04:35 AM MacGalempsy: I think so. We are going about 2 miles out horizontal
04:36 AM XXCoder: slanted drilling?
04:36 AM MacGalempsy: No. We go down 11k then turn and go another 2 miles
04:37 AM MacGalempsy: Turn is about 800ft md
04:37 AM R2E4_bevins1: https://imagebin.ca/v/3GzLpEX7sTGw
04:38 AM R2E4_bevins1: I am a terrible graphics artist....lol
04:39 AM MacGalempsy: A gmocappy screen.?
04:39 AM XXCoder: XYZ arrows is weird
04:39 AM XXCoder: I would do Y as horzional and Z and back/forth
04:40 AM XXCoder: or maybe not hm
04:40 AM XXCoder: depends on its relation to machine xyz
04:41 AM XXCoder: so far, I can't do inlay with estlcam
04:41 AM R2E4_bevins1: That makes sense......swapping the Z and Y works....
04:41 AM R2E4_bevins1: Why not?
04:41 AM XXCoder: male part needs edge of carve to be on line
04:41 AM XXCoder: and I cant do that with estlcam
04:42 AM R2E4_bevins1: You using v-bit?
04:42 AM MacGalempsy: How about a cross for x/y and a up/down for z?
04:42 AM XXCoder: that'd look better yeah
04:42 AM XXCoder: r2 yeah
04:43 AM R2E4_bevins1: selecting a closed vector and pocket with v-bit it wont go outside the line.
04:43 AM XXCoder: estlcam inlays?
04:45 AM R2E4_bevins1: dont use inlay function.... just offset your vector inside .5" use a v-bit and pocket it would be perfect
04:45 AM MacGalempsy: I need to figure out how to run fusion on linux with the windows emulator
04:45 AM XXCoder: my v tool is 12mm
04:45 AM R2E4_bevins1: rough the inside and do that for external on the female
04:45 AM XXCoder: you mean wine? nah it wont run in wine
04:46 AM XXCoder: so if 12mm dim, offset by 6mm?
04:46 AM R2E4_bevins1: it doesnt matter, as long as the outside vector is selected the cam wont go outside the line.
04:47 AM R2E4_bevins1: the bigger it is the longer it wil take
04:47 AM R2E4_bevins1: then reough the res with an endmill
04:47 AM R2E4_bevins1: thats for the female, the male do the same but exterior of the outside vector
04:48 AM XXCoder: but if I use cut, it would not carve sharp corners
04:48 AM R2E4_bevins1: I do this all the time
04:48 AM XXCoder: carve can do that but cant do male
04:48 AM R2E4_bevins1: If it can do inside it can do outside
04:49 AM R2E4_bevins1: The cam will take care of the sharp corners
04:50 AM MacGalempsy: Hmm dq
04:51 AM XXCoder: hmm wish camotics worked
04:51 AM MacGalempsy: What is that?
04:51 AM XXCoder: 3d cutting sim
04:52 AM MacGalempsy: Linux?
04:52 AM XXCoder: any os
04:54 AM R2E4_bevins1: I just downloaded Estlcam, and it works
04:54 AM XXCoder: yeah its decent for cheap price
04:54 AM XXCoder: but inlays dunno
04:54 AM R2E4_bevins1: I hate that interface
04:54 AM R2E4_bevins1: Gotta run, off to work
04:55 AM XXCoder: later and thankjs
04:55 AM XXCoder: let me know if you know inlays with estlcam
04:57 AM MacGalempsy: Is there a #estlcam ?
04:57 AM XXCoder: dunno it seems less common cam
04:58 AM MacGalempsy: http://www.drillingformulas.com/minimum-curvature-method/
04:59 AM MacGalempsy: Need to figure out how to interpolate along the calculated curve
05:00 AM XXCoder: interesting. why need curved drill?
05:01 AM archivist: hand chisels for proper inlay work
05:02 AM MacGalempsy: =D I hear a wise echo
05:02 AM XXCoder: heh was never any good with hands like that :P
05:03 AM MacGalempsy: Got a software idea that I would like to do
05:03 AM MacGalempsy: There are some math simulators that may help
05:05 AM XXCoder: https://imgur.com/a/ogI6E someone asking same thing as I was posted this
05:05 AM XXCoder: guy couldnt figure why it couldnt fit
05:06 AM XXCoder: I figured it :P just havent figured how to do it
05:06 AM XXCoder: the male K should be quite thin to fit in
05:06 AM XXCoder: (thats what she said)
05:08 AM archivist: spot my inlay repair http://www.collection.archivist.info/archive/DJCPD/PD/2001/2001_04_24_Crane_clock/p4240004.jpg
05:08 AM XXCoder: spotted it
05:09 AM XXCoder: lovely clock
05:09 AM XXCoder: I think I see it but whatever, looks great
05:10 AM archivist: left 45 degree panel lower rectangle one side was missing
05:11 AM XXCoder: so you made part and fixed it?
05:11 AM archivist: other problem was none was visible due to crap on top, owner did not realise it had inlay,
05:12 AM XXCoder: ye olde inlays is pretty hard to do
05:12 AM archivist: and top square had been glued in backwards so flower faced rear
05:14 AM XXCoder: so you flipped it and repaired?
05:14 AM archivist: yes
05:14 AM XXCoder: so owner is happy with repair?
05:15 AM archivist: yes that image is back at owners house
05:15 AM XXCoder: only a picture? tsk ;)
05:16 AM archivist: took a while to get right the internals were "got at" before I got inside
05:16 AM XXCoder: heh pumblers love owners that try to fix first, more money
05:17 AM XXCoder: bet its annoying for clock repairers
05:18 AM archivist: he or someone let a crap worker do it before we got it
05:19 AM archivist: must scan the old film stuff one day so I can show the bad gear
05:19 AM XXCoder: very wise to take pictures into it
05:19 AM XXCoder: because easier to figure it
05:22 AM XXCoder: wow http://estlcam.com/kuksa.php
05:22 AM XXCoder: arch so what was wrong with it?
05:24 AM archivist: someone had made a replacement gear with V teeth instead of correct form
05:24 AM XXCoder: dang
05:25 AM XXCoder: I'd never have spotted that. or even a missing gear
05:26 AM archivist: had one clock with incorrect teeth qty, wondered why the hands did not keep time....wtf
05:27 AM MacGalempsy: Think I just figured out the interpolation
05:28 AM MacGalempsy: Use the DL and divide by the MD then interpolate along the desired interval
05:30 AM MacGalempsy: Hmmm
05:30 AM XXCoder: arch why did that V cut teeth gear cause issue?
05:31 AM archivist: cannot roll against another gear smoothly, jams and stops
05:31 AM XXCoder: interesting.
05:51 AM XXCoder: lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeQi4zbT8fA
05:52 AM XXCoder: at one point it spoofs 2001
06:30 AM MacGalempsy: Just saw a mouse run across the floor. There is an app that plays ultrasonic sounds and I wonder if it worked.
06:30 AM MacGalempsy: It played for 10 min
09:05 AM gregcnc: do people really think Linuxcnc can't handle tool changes? https://youtu.be/AAgnZOHloW4
09:30 AM JT-Shop: people imagine a lot of things...
09:48 AM skunkworks: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mach1mach2cnc/conversations/messages/152640
09:59 AM skunkworks: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mach1mach2cnc/conversations/messages/152647
09:59 AM * skunkworks hugs linuxcnc
10:09 AM jym: skunkworks: If you love lcnc so much, why do you even bother keeping up with mach stuff?
10:09 AM jym: skunkworks: not sarcasim, just trying to understand
10:10 AM skunkworks: It is my reality tv...
10:10 AM jym: hahaha
10:10 AM jym: you are one sick puppy!
10:12 AM skunkworks: It isn't just mach.. I keep track of a lot of the hobby priced cnc software/hardware
10:13 AM skunkworks: Some people look at porn...
10:16 AM _methods: lol
10:16 AM jym: skunkworks: Porn is normal, you are still sick and twisted ;)
10:17 AM jym: reality tv was a good analogy
10:17 AM jym: It's so freakish you HAVE to watch
10:17 AM skunkworks: :)
10:17 AM skunkworks: Stella was jogging the matsuura around.. http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/StellaMats.jpg
10:18 AM skunkworks: I think she needs a reprap
10:18 AM skunkworks: But She is only 4.. So I would have to use it until she is old enough..
10:20 AM gregcnc: that Centroid setup you mentioned is interesting. At least they're trying to stay alive. I would think that by today there are few high priced conversions done.
10:26 AM skunkworks: I know a lot of people don't care - but you sure are stuck with what you can do with most of those systems. (you certainly don't have access to the realtime layer..)
10:29 AM CaptHindsight: my experience is that they mostly tend to fall into two categories, (1) they have an agenda, (2) they don't know what they don't know yet
10:30 AM CaptHindsight: sometimes it's both
10:31 AM sync_: well, bosch and heidenhain offer retrofit systems
10:31 AM sync_: and those work well
10:32 AM gregcnc: where are people using them? i'd guess cost of retrofit, must be substantially less than machine replacement cost
10:33 AM CaptHindsight: long term profit and control
10:33 AM skunkworks: Sure - those retrofits are a whole other level.
10:34 AM skunkworks: they have machine integrators that setup the systems for you
10:35 AM sync_: nah
10:35 AM sync_: they just sell you the control
10:35 AM sync_: and the training
10:35 AM skunkworks: and support
10:35 AM sync_: they are made for automation people retrofitting customerstuff
10:36 AM sync_: gregcnc: lots of people with old VMCs that are still mechanically sound but now 10-20 years old with controls that cannot deal with the amount of data you need for 3d contouring
10:36 AM sync_: or are slowed down by the control
10:36 AM CaptHindsight: what's the starting price for the Heidenhain?
10:37 AM sync_: I think somewhere around 10k
10:37 AM CaptHindsight: what I recall as well
10:37 AM skunkworks: That isn't bad. But how much more do you actually spend
10:37 AM sync_: I suppose a retrofit will be around 20k-30k
10:38 AM sync_: which is not bad
10:38 AM skunkworks: This was < $400
10:38 AM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81uwBAuR96I
10:38 AM CaptHindsight: that is for a 3-axis controller
10:38 AM sync_: they also have a series of adequately priced servodrives to go with it
10:39 AM sync_: so is it safety certified, have warranty, support you can yell at and has a modern conversional interface? skunkworks ;)
10:39 AM skunkworks: Yes!
10:39 AM skunkworks: :)
10:41 AM skunkworks: I am the support guy.. Saftey wise - I try my best. (but is is me and my father running them) Estops are hardware and such
10:41 AM skunkworks: as far as conversational - have you looked at native cam?
10:41 AM skunkworks: people are really liking it.
10:41 AM skunkworks: (I have only lightly played with it)
10:43 AM skunkworks: Practicalmachinist has that attitude. If you can't afford a name brand retrofit - you are doing something wrong. (or better yet - if you cannot afford a new machine - you are doing something wrong)
10:43 AM sync_: it is ok for what it is, but it is nothing compared programming on an itnc530
10:44 AM sync_: nah, that's not really my point, but for most businesses it is just more profitable not to deal with a retrofit themselves
10:44 AM sync_: mostly because they are not capable of doing it and it is way better to have someone else to yell at if something breaks
10:44 AM sync_: and you are very quickly at 20-30k if you are doing it yourself
10:44 AM gregcnc: even down time for retrofit is costly
10:46 AM sync_: well skunkworks they have a point tho, usually it is more cost effective to finance a new machine and use it properly than to buy a used machine and not be profitable
10:46 AM skunkworks: sure
10:46 AM sync_: and a starter set from haas with a lathe and vmc only runs you something like 450k in total
10:46 AM skunkworks: That is not me.. :)
10:47 AM gregcnc: I have an Emco PC based control that is extremely buggy. The stupid stuff I've seen it do really makes me wonder.
10:47 AM skunkworks: gregcnc, yeck
10:47 AM sync_: well, your machining hour is not going to be cheaper if your machine is older, you are only slower
10:48 AM sync_: so that is instantly lost profit
10:48 AM sync_: of course if one is just messing about, that's fine but it is a hole to dig oneself into if one wants to open a shop
10:49 AM CaptHindsight: I couldn't get the devs in China to use Linuxcnc for new machines since were worried about others being able to copy machines too easily
10:50 AM CaptHindsight: and if they were funded by the government they didn't want software that started out in the US
10:52 AM CaptHindsight: and since just about everyone runs a $2 copy of windows they wanted it to run on windows
10:52 AM jym: Nice looking design, but thermal ACUSTIC? I thought it was a sterling engine? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg96lDw7sNw
10:53 AM CaptHindsight: jym: if you vibrate hard enough you'll freeze
10:55 AM CaptHindsight: acoustic heat pump
10:55 AM gregcnc: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoacoustic_heat_engine
11:00 AM CaptHindsight: even Automation Technologies (keiling) only sells Mach systems
11:20 AM jym: gregcnc: interesting
11:21 AM jym: you would think that all the noise in a city, you could generate a lot of sound electricity
11:24 AM rwlloyd: Afternoon :)
11:24 AM rwlloyd: Anybody know much about modifying the timings of pulses coming from the parallel port? im getting 50us pulse when I'm expecting 5us pulses. This is on a second parallel port, and I'm a bit stumped.
11:24 AM skunkworks: Why do you think you should be getting 5us pulse?
11:25 AM rwlloyd: because that's whats coming out of the first parallel port for the other 4 axis and they're all the same driver
11:26 AM skunkworks: My wild ass guess is that you don't have the second parallel port setup to use the 'reset' feature.
11:26 AM rwlloyd: the x y z a axis are being run by a gecko G540, the 5th axis, the B axis is a gecko G251
11:27 AM rwlloyd: Well, at least i'm not going mad, that was my guess too, but it's not that
11:27 AM cradek: what is the actual problem you're seeing that led you to measure the pulse widths?
11:28 AM rwlloyd: the b axis, which is rotary, just started shaking rather than turning, the stepper driver seems fine, and ive traced the problem back to this weird pulse width
11:29 AM CaptHindsight: are you measuring the Step signal duration with a scope?
11:29 AM cradek: say more about shaking?
11:30 AM cradek: in what situations does it shake?
11:31 AM rwlloyd: yeah, im measuring it with a scope
11:31 AM rwlloyd: it's actually 63us
11:32 AM CaptHindsight: did this axis ever work properly? Is this a new problem after it working properly for a time?
11:32 AM rwlloyd: the shaking increases in frequency with feedrate
11:33 AM rwlloyd: the axis did work properly, i had a similar issue before, but that was corrected by rerouting wires, I thought it was a crosstalk roblem
11:34 AM CaptHindsight: I was going to ask you to post your HAL file and look for a typo in the timings for that axis
11:35 AM rwlloyd: yeah, no worries
11:36 AM rwlloyd: https://thepasteb.in/p/Vmh03wo7RQVI4
11:37 AM rwlloyd: I have just setup a test with stepconf to test the signal from a new config. The second parallel port certainly has the capability to output the correct pulses. I can only assume I have changed something unwittingly. Any help is very appreciated
11:38 AM pcw_home: I think you are missing reset on the B axis
11:39 AM rwlloyd: https://thepasteb.in/p/k5hY9WzPQqjfE Surely that's correct?
11:39 AM cradek: you have reset on pin 4, but step is pin 6
11:40 AM cradek: (however, I doubt the missing reset is the actual problem)
11:40 AM rwlloyd: ah, sorry, that was me messing about to see if the pin was blown
11:40 AM rwlloyd: the problem persists either way
11:40 AM cradek: I think you have a wiring problem
11:41 AM cradek: I'd like to know more about what has changed since it was working right
11:42 AM os1r1s: pcw_home Do you have a special firmware for the 7i76 when using pathpilot with a non-Tormach mill?
11:44 AM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: is there a servo board like the 7i77 that has differential vs single ended analog outputs?
11:45 AM pcw_home: No, usually drives have differential inputs, making differential outputs of limited vaue
11:46 AM rwlloyd: As would I.... and I thought it was a wiring problem too initially, but apparently not
11:46 AM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: the application is not usual
11:50 AM pcw_home: You could use a unity gain inverter to get a differential (+-20V) signal
11:50 AM pcw_home: What are you driving that needs differential signals?
11:52 AM CaptHindsight: the servo amp offers both options, however it's currently configured for differential and it's a project to disassemble and jumper the connections
11:54 AM CaptHindsight: it's generally factory configured and not changed in the field
11:56 AM pcw_home: differential inpust servos are fine with single ended drive
11:56 AM os1r1s: pcw_home Any thoughts on my question?
11:57 AM pcw_home: in fact is almost always done that way
11:58 AM pcw_home: os1r1s: I don't see any reason that it would require special firmware
11:58 AM CaptHindsight: galvo amps are weird
12:01 PM CaptHindsight: legacy stuff
12:02 PM os1r1s: pcw_home Someone mentioned it in the forums. So pathpilot won't write some weird firmware to my 7i76?
12:02 PM rwlloyd: speaking of galvos, are they relatively simple to get working with linuxcnc? We have one at work that I'd like to have a play with, but no controller for it
12:05 PM pcw_home: os1r1s: Pretty sure standard PathPilot _will_ write firmware for Tormachs breakout board thus disabling the 7I76
12:05 PM pcw_home: this needs to be defeated by altering the script (or maybe filename of the bitfile not sure exactly how its done)
12:06 PM CaptHindsight: rwlloyd: depends, is this a complete scan head with motors and amps?
12:06 PM os1r1s: pcw_home Hmm, I thought the newer ones used a 7i76. Maybe I'm off. I'll go back to the drawing board.
12:07 PM pcw_home: no, Tormach has their own breakout board (same as Mach3 one I think)
12:07 PM os1r1s: pcw_home Ok. My mistake. I'll do more research.
12:07 PM CaptHindsight: rwlloyd: most use the XY2-100 digital interface vs analog

12:25 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:29 PM djdelorie: my cnc machine lives again! I think the bldc drivers lost their calibration data, possibly due to EMI from driving the motors too hard. And one pulley came loose ;-)
12:29 PM root-x: My CPU consumption: Xorg-->~40% | Wish8.5-->~20% | Milltask-->10% | halui-->~3% | Total aprox 73%
12:30 PM * djdelorie should redesign those drivers some day... or some year...
12:30 PM root-x: CPU 1Ghz 1GB ram..
12:32 PM root-x: Not differences between external or internal video card
12:35 PM root-x: two different pci ati video cards purchased but not diferences with the 32mb internal....
12:36 PM CaptHindsight: root-x: software rendering?
12:36 PM root-x: What? i have more computers XD
12:38 PM root-x: ok... i use TK
12:38 PM CaptHindsight: root-x: X doesn't take up that much cpu if hardware accel is working
12:39 PM CaptHindsight: GPU
12:40 PM IchGucksLive: CaptHindsight: do you know if there is a button or checkbox to fire the gpu
12:40 PM jym: HAHA, when I first saw this, I thought the left side was like one of those japanese hotel rooms... https://rv-roadtrips.thefuntimesguide.com/images/blogs/rv-propane.jpg

12:42 PM IchGucksLive: cool if you dont fear caves
12:42 PM jym: IchGucksLive: ...or coffins
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: if you need one of this you might not consider the fear
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: Camotics is Back
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: i got 1.2.0 amd 64 inside and it runs perfect
12:51 PM root-x: latency is best with internal video card. 17000 vs 22000
12:52 PM CaptHindsight: jym: nah, the hotel rooms would have a TV, computer, and kitchen area in less space
12:52 PM IchGucksLive: root-x: on steppers it is ot that hard to go for 22k
12:52 PM jym: CaptHindsight: the do have Tv's
12:52 PM IchGucksLive: if you open up the INI you might see 100k as default
12:52 PM jym: CaptHindsight: And cooking in a cube, don't think that's wise
12:53 PM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: i got it back to work with 1.2.0 so sim is not more trouble
01:00 PM IchGucksLive: here is the real cool carv sim of your part now working http://pasteall.org/pic/index.php?id=113966
01:01 PM IchGucksLive: our Droid R2E4 has now all his equipment on irc ;-)
01:01 PM IchGucksLive: someone recently seen pink_lady
01:02 PM Crom: morning
01:04 PM IchGucksLive: its getting dark outside Crom
01:04 PM Crom: 10:32am PDT
01:04 PM IchGucksLive: and Temp
01:05 PM Crom: in irc it's morning when you show up, and night when you leave. Not withstanding your local timezone
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: agree 24/7
01:08 PM * Crom is waiting for the kettle to boil, so he can get his char (chai) ((tea))
01:10 PM IchGucksLive: drugs are free in your time sone so keep waiting
01:13 PM Crom: cuppa in hand as we type
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: taste
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: did you ad a drop of milk to it
01:14 PM Crom: cheap store black tea, steep 2minutes, 2 sweet-n-low, 1/8 cup of milk
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: so you are on 130% today
01:15 PM Crom: 2% milk... Really wish I had some whipping cream or at least whole milk
01:15 PM * jym tosses some rum in Crom's tea
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: dont drink and drive stay alive
01:16 PM Crom: I wish... The house is dry now out of respect to our house mate. I'm not a big drinker to begin with... 4 drinks is alot for me in a year
01:17 PM jym: Crom: PM
01:18 PM root-x: IchGucksLive i have 1000000 servo period and 14k for base
01:18 PM IchGucksLive: root-x: is it servo
01:19 PM root-x: steppers
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: so why that low what speed are ypoiu on
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: this gives you 35.000 steps per second
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: you might only need 12k or less
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: so give the LCNC some more time
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: if you are not expirence step losses or Realtime Delays keep gouing to speed up the mashine
01:23 PM R2E4_bevins_2: hello IchGucksLive
01:24 PM IchGucksLive: <- Smiles
01:27 PM skunkworks: 14k for base is probably pushing it unless your latency tests are real real real good
01:27 PM root-x: IchGucksLive this is because im thinking in one 30:1 reduction for 4º axis
01:28 PM root-x: some time out my configuration i need re read and calculate.
01:29 PM IchGucksLive: im on 90:1 and i got 55k latency at 360Deg in 5sec
01:29 PM IchGucksLive: without a steploss
01:29 PM skunkworks: if you need more than 40khz step rate - you probably need hardware stepgen - or lower your uStepping
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: im on 100stepd per deg
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: thats enoph for sculping
01:31 PM sync_: 360° in 5s is pretty slow
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: at 200mm max diameter
01:32 PM IchGucksLive: i mill along X while turning A in cutter target steps
01:34 PM IchGucksLive: root-x: sync_ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqx9w80diKo
01:34 PM IchGucksLive: its good to go
01:35 PM sync_: still seems slow, my lehmann rotary gets up to 90rpm currently
01:36 PM IchGucksLive: ok will the g-code keep track if you go along A and use Z
01:37 PM IchGucksLive: the new interpreter gets in trouble with that mill path
01:37 PM IchGucksLive: or you need that high acc
01:42 PM IchGucksLive: sync_: i can only get up to 250mm/s²
01:42 PM IchGucksLive: then im in trouble
01:43 PM IchGucksLive: i like to stay at 120mm/s@
01:43 PM IchGucksLive: then it runs the whole exibition 8hr with no loss
01:45 PM sync_: idk what the accel in m/s² is but I can hit 10m/min in under 200ms
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: steppers wont malke that
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: ok im off
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
01:51 PM Crom: jym, check this out 1/2 50' hose for gases http://www.discountcontractorsupply.com/product_p/gas1250.htm
01:52 PM Crom: $45
01:56 PM GF is now known as GEFU
02:45 PM {HD}: Does the number of steps per rev I am sending to my stepper effect how quickly it heats up? I think I have found that if I am moving the steppers slowly the heat up really quickly...does that make sense?
02:45 PM cradek: if your drives have configurable saturation current, check to see if it's configured right
02:46 PM Wolf_: current = heat, and steppers use power when not moving
02:46 PM cradek: you get the most heating when *not* moving but with full current
02:47 PM Wolf_: http://i.imgur.com/XRTwasV.jpg
02:47 PM Wolf_: top stepper is running 2x current setting as my x/y
02:48 PM {HD}: Wolf_: Neat picture.
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: have you gotten the steppers hot enough to demagnetize the magnets?
02:48 PM {HD}: I have my drivers configured correctly according to the manual. and they do not get super hot when not moving they get hottest fastest when moving slowly.
02:48 PM Wolf_: me, no http://i.imgur.com/eotv49V.jpg
02:49 PM {HD}: Wolf_: That is hotter than mine are getting.
02:49 PM Wolf_: http://i.imgur.com/W0pB6U3.jpg I’ve lowered the settings since then…
02:50 PM {HD}: I am hitting 100F(ish) when moving really slowly.
02:50 PM CaptHindsight: I had a pancake stepper that used less than .25A that was killed by a tb6600 set at 0.5A
02:51 PM {HD}: but, it seems that steps per rev doesnt effect heat generation...?
02:51 PM Wolf_: I’m running the nema 23 425oz/in at 1.5A or 1A I can’t remember right now
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: 0.5 or 0.6A
02:52 PM CaptHindsight: the case was at 110C, don't know what the internals were
02:52 PM Wolf_: but my drivers have some current dropping thing on them as well
02:52 PM Wolf_: thats a little warm lol
02:52 PM sync_: that's something we still have to implement in our servodrive
02:53 PM sync_: overtorquing the servos as long as the temperatur permits it
02:53 PM sync_: +e
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: it was random, one time they would stop and not go above 40C then when you didn't want it to 110C
02:53 PM {HD}: I am driving a nema23 rated at 3.5A at 2.8A
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: forgot about it one day and the motor would not spin
02:54 PM CaptHindsight: took it out and no more detents when spun by hand
02:55 PM {HD}: So, doesnt sound like I am generating too much heat...I will keep testing it then.
02:55 PM CaptHindsight: never had the problem with those motors with a better stepper drive
02:57 PM {HD}: I will hook up a meter on the leads to see what I am pulling when it is in use.
02:57 PM cpresser: {HD}: you will need a scope. or a good multimeter
02:58 PM cpresser: at least a RMS multimeter. without RMS your measurement might be wrong
02:58 PM {HD}: cpresser: I have both but, I think Ill start with multimeter.
02:58 PM cpresser: if you own a scope, you most likely dont need any explanation :)
02:59 PM Wolf_: I need to learn how to use my scope more… how do you use it to check current lol
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: I'd say the problem is more with crappy tb6600 builds
03:00 PM cpresser: Wolf_: inline resistor as a shunt. second channel on the voltage. if you multiply them you can see the power
03:00 PM cpresser: isolation transformer for the scope is advised :)
03:01 PM Wolf_: ahh cool, and yeah, i need to get one of those
03:01 PM CaptHindsight: cpresser: you mean like snipping off the ground pin on the power cord? :)
03:01 PM cpresser: CaptHindsight: sure^^
03:01 PM {HD}: groundpin condom
03:02 PM * cpresser has a isolation transformer. but i am a chicken when it comes to AC line voltage
03:02 PM CaptHindsight: I'd see it in TV shops where they would service hot chassis
03:03 PM Wolf_: I use to work for a utility contractor, hot mains power doesn’t bother me much
03:03 PM {HD}: https://youtu.be/ZZjnbl1apeY?t=7m19s
03:03 PM cpresser: as long as you dont make mistakes, everything is fine^^
03:03 PM CaptHindsight: anyone found a tb6600 that behaves well with small steppers (<1A)?
03:03 PM Wolf_: stuff in KV range on the other hand can jump too far lol
03:04 PM cpresser: Wolf_: of those i am really afraid. i have a CRT to repair.. still not sure how I should start on that
03:04 PM {HD}: looks like he is just using kapton tape as a condom in that video
03:05 PM Wolf_: does that work on something thats running switch mode psu?
03:06 PM * {HD} is waiting for someone how actually knows the anwser to anwser.
03:07 PM cpresser: i dont understand the question tbh
03:11 PM {HD}: On a different note: I got my rs232-rs485 adapters today! So, I can test my vfd with pc control!
03:11 PM Crom: nice!
03:12 PM jdh: I was excited when I got mine about 2 years ago.
03:12 PM jdh: still sitting on my desk!
03:13 PM {HD}: jdh: LOL
03:13 PM jdh: some day
03:15 PM {HD}: I really like the idea of all my control being in one spot so I am going to run tests with the adapter today.
03:20 PM Crom: my linuxcnc irx pc is being difficult today... not wanting to boot after a restart
03:41 PM Roguish: hey all. any good machinists around. I have a cnc tapping tooling question.
03:41 PM _methods: ask away if someone can help they will
03:42 PM Roguish: I need a tension/compression tapping tool holder for a Haas. yeah, must be a tension/compression (same as a spring type, I think.)
03:43 PM Roguish: which is better and easier to use. a Biltz style or an ER collet style ???
03:46 PM {HD}: Roguish: I am not fimilar with blitz but I use ER on 3 of my machines.
03:46 PM _methods: i guess that depends on you and what tooling you have around
03:47 PM Roguish: HD: thanks. do you use special taps?
03:47 PM Roguish: in the ER collets
03:48 PM {HD}: they are generic taps. Nothing special.
03:48 PM gregcnc: there are ER tap collets with squares to drive the tap
03:48 PM _methods: i mean if you don't already own biltz collets i'd go with er
03:49 PM Roguish: don't have anything now. trolling ebay.
03:49 PM _methods: yeah i'd go with er then
03:49 PM _methods: that way you can use the same collets in all your tooling
03:49 PM gregcnc: I use the tension PCM tapping ER collets
03:50 PM gregcnc: in regular ER holders
03:50 PM Crom: I dont dare tap using my setup yet
03:50 PM _methods: instead of being stuck with a bunch of specialized tap collets that you can't use in anything else
03:50 PM Roguish: so, ER collets. any slippage in the collets on the shank?
03:50 PM _methods: they make er tap collets
03:51 PM _methods: they have a sq cutout in the bottom to hold the tap shank
03:51 PM roycroft: not if you use the correct collet
03:51 PM Roguish: ER tap collets?
03:51 PM _methods: yep
03:51 PM gregcnc: https://www.rego-fix.com/en/home/products/collets-reduction-sleeves-tapping-collets.html
03:52 PM _methods: you don't "have" to use tap collets
03:53 PM _methods: but it's one less thing to have to trouble shoot when having tap issues
03:53 PM Roguish: well, i'm convinced and reassured. I was leaning heavily to the ER
03:54 PM _methods: i've tapped plenty of holes with regular er collets
03:54 PM Roguish: i have ER 16, 20 and 32 collets already.
03:54 PM _methods: but if i'm having a tap breakage issue it's the first thing i cross off
03:54 PM Roguish: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHARS-BT-40-ER32-Floating-Tap-Holder-BT40-/350456029007?hash=item5198ce9f4f:g:87YAAOSwVL1WCpAa
03:55 PM _methods: that should do the trick
03:55 PM Roguish: THANK YOU GUYS VERY MUCH. really appreciate the advice.
04:00 PM Crom: I just had a thought. Mounting a stepper with a 8mm shaft next to the spindle, put a ER collet chuck on it. axis C?
04:01 PM gregcnc: in you mill?
04:02 PM Crom: maybe is I have a 6090... or and X1, X2, X3 or RF-45
04:04 PM gregcnc: many ways to go about 4th axis usually A axis in a mill
04:12 PM Crom: this would be an axis that is colinear with Z.
04:13 PM Crom: A is usually colinear with X
04:23 PM gregcnc: for turning?
04:29 PM Deejay: gn8
04:32 PM Crom: gregcnc for rigid tapping mainly...
04:33 PM Crom: with a stepper it would be easy to use hand taps... 20 steps forward 10 back, 20 forward, 10 back.... and have Z track
04:36 PM sync_: just use machine taps and an encoder on the spindle
04:36 PM gregcnc: not a bad idea if you have a high speed spindle
04:37 PM alex__: hi!
04:38 PM alex__: I just tried to use a custom kinematics module on 2.8.0 pre1-2944 and I get some failures
04:38 PM alex__: the same kinematics works perfectly on 2.7.8
04:38 PM alex__: the issue is related to jogging the b axis in world mode
04:39 PM alex__: in the + direction it joggs well with no limitation in - direction the machine simply turns off
04:39 PM alex__: no error, no nothing
04:39 PM alex__: it is like i would have toggled machine power
04:39 PM cradek: there was no world mode jogging in 2.7, so this possibly might be a new bug
04:40 PM cradek: I am surprised one direction is different
04:41 PM cradek: I'm surprised there is no error
04:41 PM cradek: could you submit a bug report saying how a developer could reproduce this? ideally, with a sim config and kins file that is distributed already, second best is if you include yours
04:41 PM alex__: hi cradek, i can jog the axis in 2.7.8 with no problem but for the bug not beeing able to set a jog step in world mode in 2.7.8
04:42 PM cradek: there is no world mode jogging in 2.7
04:42 PM cradek: it only jogs joints
04:42 PM cradek: oops, I think I'm wrong
04:42 PM alex__: ?
04:43 PM cradek: wheel jogging is joints only, but there are world mode continuous jogs
04:43 PM alex__: there is world mode jogging but there is a bug, you cannot set a step for jogging it only joggs continuously
04:43 PM alex__: exactly, this i wanted to overcome
04:43 PM cradek: sure
04:44 PM alex__: ok, i will upload my current test config as a bug report
04:44 PM alex__: i find it also very weird
04:44 PM alex__: c axis joggs just fine in both directions
04:45 PM alex__: in joint mode there is no problem
04:46 PM Crom: sync_ I have a crap spindle
04:49 PM alex__: i also have a completely unrelated problem, hardware guys please help!
04:50 PM alex__: for certain types of frequency inverters I get much noise in the signal lines, how do you fileter this?
04:50 PM alex__: the problem is in some environments (for example machine works in a countryside) i get much noise even if there is no problem back home
04:51 PM alex__: same inverter used in both cases
04:53 PM sync_: check your grounding
04:53 PM sync_: and use a shielded motor cable
04:55 PM alex__: i use a shielded motor cable, grounding is as good as it can be but in some cases it is absent
04:56 PM alex__: or tied to the N
04:56 PM alex__: so you really have just one or the phases and N
04:56 PM sync_: then you need to drive another grounding rod
04:57 PM alex__: i know but i wonder how others do it because i have seen many cases where my machine has this problem and a competitor machine works just fine
04:57 PM alex__: in the same enviromet
04:57 PM alex__: so same crapy grounding
04:59 PM sync_: mostly just luck
05:00 PM alex__: :)
05:16 PM alex__: i just remember an other issue in debian wheezy, sometimes at power failure or inproper shutdown coordinates in G54...G59 get lost, the linuxcnc.var files is empty after computer restart
05:17 PM alex__: is there any sollution to avoid this?
05:17 PM alex__: in ubuntu i have never experienced this issue
05:23 PM Crom: ahhh that's a file system settings... max cache time before flush
05:23 PM Crom: running ext4 file system?
05:24 PM Crom: alex_ read this https://superuser.com/questions/479379/how-long-can-file-system-writes-be-cached-with-ext4
05:27 PM alex__: i have tought this might be it but had no clue where to search for it
05:32 PM Crom: switching computers.. bbiaw
07:37 PM enleth: at the risk of repeating myself - I'm still looking for someone in the US to help me sell off the old Bosch servo drive
07:40 PM malcom2073: Why in the US?
07:41 PM enleth: because most buyers for those servo drives are in the US
07:42 PM malcom2073: Wouldn't it be the same price to sell on ebay and ship to the US, as to ship to the US for someone to sell on ebay?
07:42 PM enleth: it's 1970s tech, extremely hard to replace with anything modern without a major retrofit, so people buy them to replace dead units in machines they still use
07:42 PM enleth: and when they do, they need it ASAP
07:42 PM malcom2073: Nice
07:43 PM enleth: so it's obviously a better deal for someone in need of one as of yesterday if the unit is already in the US and only has to be shipped to a different state, at worst
07:44 PM malcom2073: True
07:47 PM enleth: so, it's already in the US, and I have until Friday to find someone it can be handed over to for, hopefully, no more than a couple weeks
07:49 PM malcom2073: Ah, it's already here, makes sense
07:50 PM enleth: as of today, a friend of mine arrived a couple hours ago, he had some space in his luggage
08:03 PM malcom2073: Hah, yeah I could see that
08:11 PM BeachBumPete: evening LinuxCNC
08:11 PM BeachBumPete: another lovely evening running parts in the shop ;)
08:12 PM BeachBumPete: watchin' Star Trek and deburring while the parts run heh
08:12 PM Cromaglious_: which star trek?
08:13 PM BeachBumPete: right now voyager Season 6 Episode 19 "Childs Play"
08:14 PM Cromaglious_: i really loved voyager
08:14 PM BeachBumPete: Seven of Nine is looking particularly tasty tonight hehehe
08:14 PM jdh: she has a very dated look.
08:14 PM BeachBumPete: I liked the last one where ensign ballard came back from the dead
08:15 PM Cromaglious_: she was cute... I really like any featuring Nellix or the Doctor
08:15 PM BeachBumPete: I could be wrong but I swear she winked at me awhile ago
08:16 PM BeachBumPete: I was distracted awhile ago and screwed a part up unfortunately. I did not pick up the second side zero correctly somehow... GAAAhhhhh
08:17 PM jdh: do you use a probe?
08:17 PM BeachBumPete: not yet
08:17 PM BeachBumPete: just got a damaged one from a member here I gotta try to fix
08:17 PM BeachBumPete: I just use an edge finder
08:17 PM BeachBumPete: but I pickup from the part edge underneath the flashing I machine off from the first side run and I screwed the X pickup
08:18 PM BeachBumPete: Stupid mistake made this part a thousand times by now but oh well..
08:18 PM malcom2073: More rails?
08:18 PM BeachBumPete: yeah
08:18 PM BeachBumPete: I make quite a few different flavors
08:20 PM BeachBumPete: that new champfer mill I bought sure makes a nice finish tho. Too bad the part is toast hehehe
08:21 PM BeachBumPete: making a new one right now
08:21 PM BeachBumPete: Now that my Tig welder is operational again I am going to finally fab up the keyboard tilting try I have been meaning to make for the machine since I got it working
08:21 PM malcom2073: Heh
08:21 PM malcom2073: Nice
08:22 PM Cromaglious_: I need to mod my laptop holder... it's a Monitor arm for a desk. I need to chop off the arm and give is a Z of some description
08:24 PM BeachBumPete: I had bought a heavy duty monitor stand for the VMC but never could find a good way to utilize it. SO I may just use it on the lathe build. Its up in the attick
08:27 PM BeachBumPete: There she goes again....she winked at me I swear. Did you see it?? :)
08:27 PM Cromaglious_: the pivot is a flat head machine screw and a nyloc nut. It would loosen from moving it back and forth from getting out and into the chair. Found a roller thrust bearing -- put it under the nut's washer and now no more loosening
08:27 PM BeachBumPete: Its subconscious really..... her borg implants wants to assimilate me.... I have no problem with that of course hehehe
08:31 PM Cromaglious_: There is a Sci Fi story series on BigClosetr.us/topshelf/ MAU Morphic Adaption Unit. A guy used it and became 7 of 9. the MAU couldn't change him back because of the borg implants. but now she is able to control any MAU box. And she is changing people by request into real Klingons, Vulcans, Borg's and a r2d2
08:31 PM BeachBumPete: huh?
08:32 PM Cromaglious_: read it again slower
08:34 PM BeachBumPete: Ok make me a Klingon dude hehehe
08:35 PM Cromaglious_: bigcloset is a Transgender site, but they have some really REALLY REALLLLLY good stories. I've been sucked into a serial I've been reading for over 12 years... it's now on Chapter 3147 now
08:35 PM BeachBumPete: transgender??? WTF
08:35 PM Cromaglious_: Welsh girl writes it..
08:35 PM BeachBumPete: girl?
08:35 PM Cromaglious_: people who are wired wrong at birth...
08:37 PM BeachBumPete: apparently
08:40 PM BeachBumPete: There are tons of fan sites out there and some have some good recreations/rewrites of star trek and star wars genre
08:40 PM Cromaglious_: To each their own... Damn good reading though
08:41 PM Cromaglious_: Storiesonline.net and bigclosetr.us have the best writing I have found
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: Sweet
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: I think ensign Ballard looked better before the Dr. fixed her actually
08:42 PM Cromaglious_: sexstories.com has good scifi, but most of the writiers also post on storiesonline.net
08:44 PM malcom2073: wtf channel did I just stumble into?
08:45 PM Cromaglious_: stuff to do while waiting for a cnc job to finish...
08:46 PM BeachBumPete: hehe
08:50 PM BeachBumPete: I may go ahead and run another one before bed tonight just so I have an extra for the next order
09:03 PM Cromaglious_: Laying out fabric for a pair of steam punk pants
09:09 PM BeachBumPete: You are a steam punker? That is cool man
09:24 PM Cromaglious_: ok Fabric cut...
09:25 PM Cromaglious_: I'm at the Maker Space right now. lots of flat surface, so cutting is easy. Good sewing machine is at home though
09:26 PM BeachBumPete: Nice... my maker space is out in the garage ;)
09:26 PM Cromaglious_: Copying a pair of Wrangler work jeans basically... adding a bit more room in the seat and package area, adding tool pockets to left leg, adding pouch pockets to thigh, debating calfs... might be pocket, might be Sheathes
09:27 PM Cromaglious_: Same material as thigh pouch, but sewn into 3 pckets for screwdrivers, knifes, etc...
09:28 PM Cromaglious_: Think the Thigh Pockets will basically be BDU pouches
09:46 PM Cromaglious_: hmm, yeah need to recut the thigh pockets.. wider for the pleats
09:47 PM Cromaglious_: extra 4" 2 1" pleats
09:48 PM Cromaglious_: extra 6" 2 1" pleats and a 1" accordian (inch in inch out so 2" ) on the back.
10:00 PM Cromaglious_: Bill St Maxx has a bucket fetish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBrBlxOWP5w
