12:29 AM XXCoder: I got tools I ordered
12:31 AM XXCoder: 13mm ool fits perfectly so are er11 tool
12:31 AM XXCoder: so I can easily change tools now :D
12:31 AM XXCoder: R2E4_bevins_2: ongats!
12:31 AM jym: XXCoder: this? http://funskoolindia.com/uploads/products/365/1446329165Fun%20Factory%20Extruder%20(2).jpg
12:31 AM XXCoder: whoa thats way better
12:31 AM XXCoder: such high quality plastic
12:31 AM jym: XXCoder: and MILLIONS sold
12:31 AM XXCoder: bet can even eat that stuff without seizure too
12:31 AM XXCoder: not that it'd taste good
12:32 AM XXCoder: anyway I also got clamps so next test should be good :D
12:32 AM XXCoder: just need table saw to be accessable first
12:40 AM jym: been using it as a junk table?
12:42 AM XXCoder: no, boxes on way
12:42 AM XXCoder: not my stuff
12:55 AM Cromaglious_: heh... My table saw is buried under K40 laser cutters
12:57 AM XXCoder: lol
01:13 AM hesperaux_: Hi everyone. Is there a channel on freenode that I can go to to ask about building a DIY cnc router?
01:13 AM hesperaux_: if that's this channel, fair enough, but I figured it's OT
01:14 AM XXCoder: well
01:14 AM XXCoder: this channels best so far but not wow channel
01:14 AM XXCoder: for diy anyway
01:17 AM hesperaux_: "wow channel"?
01:17 AM hesperaux_: what do you mean?
01:19 AM XXCoder: many people here usually convert existing machine to cnc or already cnc
01:19 AM XXCoder: not that many diys'
01:19 AM XXCoder: you meant to convert machine to cnc or build whole thing?
01:21 AM hesperaux_: right now i'm building "from scratch"
01:21 AM XXCoder: cool. router is one of easier thing to do
01:22 AM hesperaux_: I have a manual mini mill (rusnok model 80) at my disposal, so I can make <= 3.75"x7" plates; once I get a CNC router, I want to convert the mini mill to CNC
01:23 AM hesperaux_: I'm new to this stuff. I've had limited training from a retired machinist who owns said mill. I designed the machine in sketchup and I'm taking a risk to try something a little different, with the expectation that it willf ail
01:23 AM XXCoder: I once saw interesting cnc router thats made from wood boxes basically
01:23 AM hesperaux_: hoping to learn a lot and, eventually, hopefully the machine will be useful
01:24 AM XXCoder: whats planned material?
01:24 AM hesperaux_: I've seen some of those yeah. I question that
01:24 AM XXCoder: and whats planned material for machine?
01:24 AM hesperaux_: I want to use it for 6061 aluminum and softer, as well as custom PCBs and wood/plastic
01:24 AM hesperaux_: no steel intended, no 7075 intended but if it could do it that'd be nice cuz I do have 7075 scrap
01:25 AM hesperaux_: it sorta depends on how the CAM works out, as to whether I'll make stuff with wood/plastic. I have a 3d printer that can make plastic parts fine, so mostly it's the aluminum i'm after
01:25 AM XXCoder: I recently discovered estlcam, works pretty good for 2d
01:26 AM hesperaux_: i'll note that down
01:26 AM hesperaux_: what do you use for cad?
01:26 AM XXCoder: freecad but then i dont have any cam for 3d stuff yet, if ever heh
01:26 AM hesperaux_: I've been using sketchup for the machine design, and I use both sketchup and openscad for 3d prints; but for metal stuff I was considering learning freecad or fusion360
01:27 AM XXCoder: fusion360 seems more popular here
01:27 AM XXCoder: just cant run on my nonwindows computer heh
01:27 AM hesperaux_: indeed
01:27 AM hesperaux_: freecad is appealing in that respect, but I tend to use windows most of the time for desktop use anyway (i've reached the lazy point of my life)
01:27 AM hesperaux_: I love linux, but I just don't have the time anymore
01:28 AM XXCoder: 0.17 is still coming, its very much improved
01:28 AM XXCoder: but not yet ready to be released as file format for saves isnt fixed yet
01:28 AM hesperaux_: from what I saw of it, it's a pretty awesome program
01:29 AM XXCoder: theres PATH part, thats cam
01:29 AM XXCoder: in 0.16 it sucks
01:30 AM hesperaux_: quick question actually related to #linuxcnc...does linux CNC support arduino marlin firmware or similar? Or is it still strictly sticking to parallel ports?
01:30 AM XXCoder: so far I know, parallel ports
01:30 AM hesperaux_: bummer
01:30 AM XXCoder: because usb anything is not rt
01:31 AM XXCoder: for 3d printers it dont matter, but for milling stuff it does matter, rt is required
01:31 AM hesperaux_: How is it different from 3d printing?
01:31 AM XXCoder: parallel port has direct INT for cpu
01:32 AM XXCoder: errors can break tool and send it off flying
01:32 AM XXCoder: I HATE how 3d printers dont have any e-stop or anything really, to stop printing RIGHT AWAY.
01:32 AM hesperaux_: yeah but it's not like you can react to a tool almost breaking in real time. Or do you mean the non-RT aspects will cause those errors?
01:33 AM XXCoder: latter
01:33 AM hesperaux_: it is annoying that there's no estop on my printer
01:33 AM hesperaux_: I can just cut the power and that is adequate, but yeah not ideal
01:33 AM XXCoder: no host has "STOP NOW!" button
01:33 AM XXCoder: it would "do it when this task is done"
01:33 AM XXCoder: its because programmers and devs made 3d printers not machinists
01:34 AM hesperaux_: why wouldn't you just use a hardware kill switch? Why rely on a CPU?
01:34 AM XXCoder: it might kill steppers
01:34 AM XXCoder: it might send power backlash and burn controller board
01:34 AM hesperaux_: hmm...interesting
01:35 AM XXCoder: you dont disconnect stepper when its connected
01:35 AM XXCoder: board may release magic smoke, stepper die, or both
01:35 AM XXCoder: *powered
01:36 AM hesperaux_: so you're saying the inductive back-emf from a stepper in motion when the power is cut would back-drive the drive circuitry?
01:37 AM Crom: ok... 3 hall effect sensors showed up
01:37 AM hesperaux_: Crom, that's not the beginning of a joke is it? :)
01:39 AM Crom: damn chinese merchants... ordered 6 meters of gt2-6mm belt... so I get 6 bags of 1m pieces of gt2-6mm belts
01:39 AM XXCoder: damn
01:39 AM hesperaux_: >_<
01:39 AM XXCoder: well thats "useful"
01:39 AM hesperaux_: that sucks
01:40 AM Crom: s/6/4/ still gr(*&$(*&%$)*&
01:41 AM hesperaux_: XXCoder, not trying to be a pain in the ass...but I am still wondering how suddenly killing power would burn out a coil or a driver
01:41 AM hesperaux_: do you know how it would happen?
01:42 AM XXCoder: im not sure on exactly what happens only end result
01:42 AM XXCoder: disconnecting stepper when its on is worse
01:42 AM hesperaux_: it just seems like something that could be prevented in the drive electronics
01:42 AM hesperaux_: so like, coils are energized, I pull the plug on the motor...it can fry a coil?
01:44 AM hesperaux_: the only way I could think that would happen is if the backemf from the momentum of the motor induces a huge voltage in the coil, but then if the coil is not a coil (i.e. it is not terminated in a load) then what?
01:44 AM XXCoder: you know more about electrics than I do :)
01:44 AM hesperaux_: if it was terminated in a load, you could clamp the high voltage with a protection diode
01:45 AM hesperaux_: XXCoder, i don't claim to know exactly what I'm talking about here; I'm just speculating. I am an EE but motor control is not my specialty
01:45 AM XXCoder: my pricy papers is IT and CS
01:45 AM XXCoder: and my professin is cnc machinist lol
01:46 AM hesperaux_: pricy papers?
01:46 AM XXCoder: college degrees
01:46 AM hesperaux_: lol
01:46 AM hesperaux_: that's a new one to me
01:46 AM XXCoder: best tiolet paper I ever had
01:46 AM XXCoder: (not really, still has em somewhere)
01:46 AM hesperaux_: I started out in CS in college and then went into EE w/biomed - I did find it useful though
01:47 AM hesperaux_: What I know very little about is machining, cnc, mechanical design in general (hence my expectation to fail)
01:47 AM hesperaux_: right now I cannot get my ballscrews aligned. I've been stumped for several weeks
01:47 AM hesperaux_: too much resistance when I hand twist them...feels wrong
01:48 AM XXCoder: if i recall fromn my old research
01:48 AM XXCoder: you secure only one end
01:48 AM XXCoder: then screw it to other end, since its on rails, screw is forced to be aligned
01:48 AM XXCoder: you then secure other end
01:48 AM hesperaux_: right, but there are some limitations there with how I designed my machine
01:48 AM hesperaux_: that method has dubious results depending on the height offset of my ballnut mounting plate
01:49 AM hesperaux_: i'll show you what I mean with a screenshot
01:49 AM XXCoder: theres some preload but dunno how much is good and how much is bad
01:50 AM hesperaux_: https://snag.gy/7Zbq3h.jpg
01:51 AM hesperaux_: basically, that ballnut plate can slide up and down in the t tracks, but the bracket and mounting block for the bearing supports do not have as much flexibility
01:54 AM XXCoder: that should allow for tuneup and removing backlash
01:54 AM XXCoder: design seems pretty strightforward
01:54 AM hesperaux_: I tried to make all three dimensions adjustable, but it falls flat in practice
01:54 AM hesperaux_: it's also incredibly hard to measure anything about that setup without a massive granite table or something (which I don't have)
01:54 AM hesperaux_: so it's basically trial and error, and I haven't succeeded yet
01:55 AM hesperaux_: the problem is it will work really well, but then I tighten one thing down good and it effs it up again
01:55 AM hesperaux_: it's like I'm chasing my tail
01:55 AM archivist: hesperaux_, when a coil is powered and then disconnected/driver reduces current, the stored energy in the coil attempts to keep the current flowing, there is a sudden rise of voltage
01:56 AM hesperaux_: btw, the ball nut slides smoothly without being attached, and the column on the Y axis slides very smoothly on the rail without being connected to the ballnut
01:56 AM archivist: then ballscrew not parallel to slides
01:56 AM hesperaux_: archivist, right, so my question was why aren't there clamping diodes on the driver side to shunt those spikes
01:57 AM hesperaux_: archivist, yep I agree... it's been really hard to adjust for both possible degrees of freedom with respect to that parallelism (and virtually impossible to measure it as well)
01:57 AM archivist: hesperaux_, there should be clamping diodes in drivers, sometimes built into the devices/chips
01:57 AM hesperaux_: archivist, then that would imply that they aren't capable of handling said scenario or were not designed to do so I guess
01:58 AM archivist: measuring is no problem, use a dti
01:58 AM archivist: adjusting is tightening order
01:58 AM XXCoder: dial test indictor?
01:58 AM archivist: yes
01:58 AM hesperaux_: archivist, can you elaborate on the method? I haven't come up with a good way to use a DTI
01:59 AM XXCoder: okay first i read that condication
01:59 AM hesperaux_: I have indicated the rail against the beam to which it is affixed btw, and it is parallel to the side surface of the extrusion by about +/-.005
01:59 AM Crom: nite nite...
01:59 AM XXCoder: inch or meteric?
01:59 AM archivist: use a carriage on one with dti, measure a carriage on another rail as you slide
01:59 AM hesperaux_: inch, sorry
01:59 AM XXCoder: 0.005mm would be quite good
01:59 AM archivist: 5 thou is a bit grim
02:00 AM hesperaux_: yes I would agree - but I mainly did that to establish the extrusion as a somewhat low error measurement reference when distancing the ballscrew from that extrusion
02:01 AM hesperaux_: obviously the ballscrew and the extrusion are not going to be parallel by any physical constraints anyway
02:01 AM hesperaux_: but going back to your suggestion... i'm not sure I understand it
02:02 AM archivist: extrusions can slump on exit from the extruder, you may need to correct straightness
02:02 AM hesperaux_: I guess I don't know how what you said relates to the parallelism of the ballscrew compared to the linear rail
02:03 AM hesperaux_: I was treating the extrusion as unreliable, so my main interest is ensuring the linear rail and the ballscrew are parallel (was hoping that woudln't bite me later when I have to get both sides of the machine parallel)
02:04 AM hesperaux_: crap, I've gotta go to sleep soon
02:04 AM archivist: I think you have stacked problems deal with them one by one, first straightness of a rail (and square to other axes), then second rail parallel to first then ballscrew
02:05 AM hesperaux_: archivist, you're probably right. Note that right now the left and right sides are independent (no x axis is attached)
02:05 AM hesperaux_: and even without them being connected it's pretty bad
02:05 AM hesperaux_: I'm not sure how to make the left and right sides of the machine parallel, because they are very far apart
02:06 AM archivist: keep frame loose, adjust end 1 tighten, move to other end carriage will pull frame parallel, tighten
02:07 AM hesperaux_: hmm...
02:08 AM XXCoder: similiar to ensuring ballscrew is nicely aligned
02:08 AM hesperaux_: I think this necessitates revealing what a terrible design I have now... https://snag.gy/ZaP9mc.jpg
02:09 AM archivist: effin useless paste site I get a grey screen
02:09 AM XXCoder: youre losing some Y
02:10 AM XXCoder: unless you already has specific rails
02:10 AM hesperaux_: archivist, i've heard people say that before...it seems to not always work every time for some people
02:10 AM XXCoder: ballscrew so on
02:10 AM XXCoder: there is also some losses at X
02:10 AM hesperaux_: XXCoder, for the y axis I designed it without full Y and X
02:10 AM archivist: stupid JS driven site
02:10 AM hesperaux_: for the z axis I was limited to rails I had gotten for free
02:10 AM XXCoder: in fact all axis has losses
02:10 AM XXCoder: archivist: https://i.snag.gy/ZaP9mc.jpg
02:11 AM hesperaux_: note to self: provide direct jpg link in future
02:11 AM XXCoder: noscript stopped it from working but it displayed url to direct image. nice!
02:11 AM XXCoder: if you move steppers outside you can make smaller machine
02:11 AM hesperaux_: XXCoder, basically I am aware of the losses and for my first machine it doesn't bother me
02:11 AM XXCoder: but you'd need to get power though extrusions so holes
02:12 AM hesperaux_: XXCoder, I was hoping it would be easier to enclose if the steppers did not protrude
02:12 AM hesperaux_: funny enough they ended up protruding a little anyway on the y
02:12 AM XXCoder: well it would work
02:13 AM archivist: the adjustment sequence applies to that design
02:13 AM XXCoder: is work peice intended to be below surrounding extrusions?
02:13 AM hesperaux_: XXCoder, yes
02:13 AM hesperaux_: archivist, the part that I leave loose on one side, would that be the linear rail then?
02:14 AM hesperaux_: cuz the extrusions would probably have to stay where they are - they couldn't compress
02:15 AM hesperaux_: side note about the design: I made an effort to make it buildable for me. Since I have a <4" vise in my mill I couldn't make any big plates and didn't want to order them out, so my life got harder
02:16 AM XXCoder: heh you can make much larger machine with that router
02:16 AM archivist: you may need to slot the odd hole to allow or shorten an extrusion or whatever
02:16 AM XXCoder: hmm is those nema 34s?
02:16 AM hesperaux_: XXCoder, hoping to build a version 2 if v1 actually works. And no they are 23s but they are beefier ones...2.4nM if I recall
02:17 AM XXCoder: "long" nema 23
02:17 AM archivist: or shim the shortest bar to make it right
02:17 AM hesperaux_: archivist, gotcha
02:18 AM archivist: rinse repeat until right, loosen the rail while sliding tighten as you go along for parallel in the middle
02:22 AM hesperaux_: same advice for the ballscrews?
02:23 AM archivist: yes
02:24 AM hesperaux_: are you guys in north america or over the ocean?
02:24 AM hesperaux_: maybe I'll come back again tomorrow but I gotta get to bed now. I do appreciate the advice
02:24 AM XXCoder: if I walked west for a hour I'd be dead by drowning heh
02:24 AM XXCoder: 12 am soon here
02:25 AM hesperaux_: lol it's 2am now
02:25 AM hesperaux_: gotta get up at 8:45
02:25 AM archivist: 7 AM
02:25 AM archivist: get up you lazy buggers
02:25 AM hesperaux_: lol
02:25 AM XXCoder: I normally wake up at 2 pm :P
02:25 AM XXCoder: well 1 pm usually
02:25 AM hesperaux_: I would too if I had a choice
02:25 AM hesperaux_: anyways, thanks again. night all
02:26 AM XXCoder: I work 3:15 pm to 1:45 am lol
02:26 AM XXCoder: later
03:15 AM insomnia is now known as LexLuthor
03:21 AM Deejay: moin
03:22 AM XXCoder: yo
04:19 AM IchGucksLive: good morning from germany
04:20 AM XXCoder: hey good night from dark washington
04:20 AM XXCoder: how things
04:20 AM IchGucksLive: washington state
04:21 AM XXCoder: yep
04:21 AM IchGucksLive: so you make the Beer Ground material
04:21 AM XXCoder: dunno as I donbt drink beer
04:21 AM IchGucksLive: local Brewer imports it from washington state
04:21 AM IchGucksLive: the second largest beond germany
04:22 AM IchGucksLive: hop
04:22 AM IchGucksLive: as google translatet it
04:22 AM IchGucksLive: hops
04:22 AM XXCoder: hops is plant made into beer somehow, or flavoring
04:23 AM XXCoder: not too sure how it serves
04:23 AM IchGucksLive: there is a huge temp difference in WA from south to north
04:23 AM IchGucksLive: maybe even from west to east
04:23 AM XXCoder: somewhat. larger difference west/east
04:23 AM XXCoder: east is desert
04:24 AM IchGucksLive: ok i need to move on lots of work to do as orders fow in to my fellow brothers
04:24 AM XXCoder: later hav fun
04:25 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
05:39 AM XXCoder: too bad hesperaux isnt here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=docu7RM4Tm0
05:40 AM XXCoder: check it out archivist its tuning up machine as you have discribed
05:40 AM XXCoder: el cheapo machine but yeah same idea
05:44 AM archivist: cant watch youtube any more they buggered it up
05:44 AM XXCoder: what did they change? if its ads you can add polugin to remove those
05:45 AM archivist: dont know what they just done play on this browser
05:49 AM XXCoder: man the machine is so weak
05:52 AM XXCoder: 250 mm/m and it barely engraves
05:53 AM XXCoder: my cnc ruter cut wood at 1,000 mm/m and it was pushing with with bad fixture but worked
05:55 AM MacGalempsy: morning
05:55 AM XXCoder: hey mac
05:55 AM XXCoder: I found video of surpising cheap but weak cnc engraver lol
05:55 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=docu7RM4Tm0
05:56 AM MacGalempsy: you ordering one?
05:56 AM XXCoder: nah you probably seen my cnc router
05:56 AM MacGalempsy: i think so
05:56 AM XXCoder: however I DO want to try inlays, which mean I need the v cutter
05:57 AM MacGalempsy: i figured something custom today that someone needs to make
05:58 AM MacGalempsy: rhenium darts with a carbide point
05:58 AM XXCoder: hey jt
05:58 AM MacGalempsy: rhenium has a density of 21g/cm^3
05:58 AM MacGalempsy: for the rich dart players
05:59 AM XXCoder: what no tungstein darts?
05:59 AM MacGalempsy: tungsten has a density of 19g/cm^3
05:59 AM XXCoder: lol
06:00 AM JT-Mobile: morning
06:00 AM XXCoder: what no obsium darts?
06:00 AM MacGalempsy: rhenium is 73 on the periodic table and melts at >5000°f
06:00 AM MacGalempsy: platinum would be heavier, but too expensive
06:00 AM JT-Mobile: I wonder if my Tweaker 5" is on the way yet
06:00 AM sync_: osmium would work too
06:01 AM XXCoder: poisonous though
06:01 AM sync_: or iridium
06:01 AM MacGalempsy: rhenium is the heaviest stable
06:02 AM MacGalempsy: there are some 20g bars on ebay for $84 each. they are square though
06:02 AM XXCoder: heh I wonder how machinable those are.
06:02 AM MacGalempsy: hardness is 7
06:03 AM XXCoder: I'd not be surpised if it was used as audio pin for vynls
06:03 AM XXCoder: so many metals was used for that
06:03 AM JT-Mobile: MacGalempsy, you get a quad yet?
06:05 AM MacGalempsy: heh. not yet. you?
06:05 AM MacGalempsy: been kicking around the options
06:05 AM JT-Mobile: got a Tarot 680 PRO and a Tweaker 5" on the way
06:05 AM MacGalempsy: i might try cleanflight
06:06 AM MacGalempsy: the dronin guys were kinda downers
06:06 AM JT-Mobile: how does that differ from dronin
06:06 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBl-kU1rBr0 too bad language isnt english
06:07 AM JT-Mobile: dang you need google chrome for cleanflight?
06:08 AM XXCoder: or chromium
06:08 AM XXCoder: I use that
06:08 AM XXCoder: CHIP requires chrome to flash it, and I use chromium for that
06:10 AM XXCoder: yay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEFFogenSvo english version!
06:14 AM JT-Mobile: that is a very good tutorial
06:14 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:14 AM XXCoder: unfortunately not inlay
06:14 AM XXCoder: been figuring that
06:15 AM XXCoder: estlcam can do 3d models.
06:16 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpX_Uu674Fs no english found so far
06:16 AM MacGalempsy: brb.
06:23 AM XXCoder: LOL this is cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=einSP8XNEYE
06:24 AM XXCoder: not estlcam related
06:36 AM MacGalempsy: sorry was doing reports. cleanflight seemed to have a longer time in development
06:36 AM XXCoder: np, look at video heh
06:44 AM XXCoder: man those videos is teaching me a lot about estlcam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8KdxxKhdLk
06:48 AM JT-Mobile: do you have to build chromium?
06:48 AM XXCoder: I just added repos
06:58 AM XXCoder: if bored, 100 years old ASL signed video. https://youtu.be/XITbj3NTLUQ
06:59 AM XXCoder: so interesting to see differences since then lol
07:01 AM JT-Mobile: I like bringing my laptop on vacation and downloading a bunch of stuff for free lol
07:01 AM XXCoder: lol
07:01 AM XXCoder: limited bandwidth at work?
07:01 AM XXCoder: err home
07:02 AM JT-Mobile: during the day time yes, unlimited up to 8am
07:02 AM JT-Mobile: after that 10Gb per month
07:03 AM XXCoder: 1 tb limit here
07:03 AM XXCoder: then 10 dollars each 10gb if I recall right
07:05 AM XXCoder: jt did you see last video? its very rare
07:06 AM JT-Mobile: no
07:07 AM XXCoder: dont have to watch entire thing
07:07 AM XXCoder: just see little bit
07:08 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS2c07HCdyo hey thats newer video. shows both new and old style
07:08 AM XXCoder: you can see modern asl is faster, good thing
08:36 AM R2E4_bevins1: mornin
08:54 AM zeeshan: question for the machinists: do you face the sides that will make contact into the jaws of a vise?
08:54 AM zeeshan: sides of a work piece material
09:01 AM R2E4_bevins1: nobody is here
09:01 AM R2E4_bevins1: too early or too late
09:01 AM archivist: its middle of the day, sun is shining get out there
09:02 AM R2E4_bevins1: hey archivist
09:02 AM R2E4_bevins1: I got my remap working.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E02xONwPMhE
09:03 AM zeeshan: :)
09:03 AM zeeshan: http://i.imgur.com/8nzAopr.jpg
09:03 AM zeeshan: i got my knife pretty much made
09:03 AM zeeshan: needs a little bit more fine sanding and its done :P
09:04 AM zeeshan: i like the raw metal look
09:04 AM R2E4_bevins1: Still needs adjustments. I am usng time.sleep, but ned to implement "when move completed"..
09:04 AM R2E4_bevins1: WOW, thats nice
09:05 AM zeeshan: thank you :DF
09:06 AM R2E4_bevins1: Whats the handle made from?
09:06 AM R2E4_bevins1: wood?
09:07 AM zeeshan: stablized wood
09:07 AM R2E4_bevins1: whats the dots on the blade?
09:08 AM zeeshan: steel pins
09:08 AM R2E4_bevins1: now that I understand the remap, I have to do my VMC turret toolchanger
09:08 AM zeeshan: to align the handles and blade
09:08 AM zeeshan: remap looks confusing :)
09:09 AM archivist: I remapped remap to /dev/null
09:09 AM zeeshan: lol
09:09 AM R2E4_bevins1: not bad once you understand it. You did your vfd, you would have no problem with it.
09:10 AM R2E4_bevins1: Propblem is there is no complete documentation for it. There is more docs and examples for ngc but none for pure python
09:10 AM archivist: write some to help others
09:11 AM R2E4_bevins1: I was thinking on writing up something for it.
09:11 AM R2E4_bevins1: If put it in the forums, people might not find it
09:12 AM zeeshan: throw it on wiki linuxcnc
09:12 AM zeeshan: then google will find :)
09:12 AM R2E4_bevins1: Everyone is saying the wiki is out of date
09:12 AM archivist: or as a patch for the actual docs
09:13 AM archivist: wiki does not get a lot of luv
09:13 AM R2E4_bevins1: What format should I put it in if I want to submit it and who do I submit it to?
09:15 AM R2E4_bevins1: I could never get self.execute to work. I had to use mdi for movements.
09:15 AM archivist: jt is the main man for docs

12:25 PM archivist: which one :) http://diy.vegashelicam.us/diy-cnc-part-7-the-computer-insanity/
12:26 PM archivist: a higher res one might lurk in the doc source
12:33 PM archivist: needs a bit more hacking to make it fully compliant and include body tip spot

12:53 PM Crom: hmmm estlecam is not loading files for me...
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: hi
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: Crom: why
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: is it dxf or stl
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: R2E4_bevins1: why not from incscape
01:14 PM Crom: not sure.. probably something to do with a windows dll installation that failed
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: is the file public
01:15 PM Crom: not even getting a file selection window
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: oh you need to trigger it 3times at startup
01:16 PM IchGucksLive: the net 4.0 is quite not working on the menue
01:16 PM roycroft: is that like clicking your heels together three times and asying "there's no code like estlecam, there's no code like estlecam ..."?
01:16 PM Crom: error parsing machine.config returned 0x80004001
01:17 PM IchGucksLive: roycroft: only till net dot agrees the linux system

01:17 PM Crom: wine
01:17 PM Crom: debian 8.7 amd64
01:17 PM IchGucksLive: workkes fine here on wineprefix
01:18 PM IchGucksLive: did you use the 32 bit and wineprefix winxp 32
01:19 PM Crom: not sure...
01:19 PM * roycroft is cloning a 32 bit windows xp at the moment himself
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: the advice is to use the 32bit estlcam file
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: a wineprefix xp 32 bit folder envirerment
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: this gives you also the reinstall trick at 2min
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: roycroft: yu most do ot need this use wineprefix
01:21 PM IchGucksLive: do not need
01:21 PM IchGucksLive: im still on 14.04
01:22 PM IchGucksLive: so then all clear working here
01:25 PM Crom: WINEPREFIX="$HOME/prefix32" WINEARCH=win32 wine wineboot fixed it

05:04 PM JT-Mobile: uploading to putube
05:11 PM {HD}: What is your vote for cad cam software? Solidworks, artcam, fusion 360, vcarve, ect...???~
05:12 PM Deejay: gn8
05:12 PM JT-Mobile: well fusion 360 has it all and is free but I can design faster in Solidworks because I know it well
05:14 PM XXCoder: yeah use what yiou has and know
05:16 PM {HD}: XXCoder: I has nothing currently but I can learn anything pretty quickly.
05:16 PM {HD}: I am not a fan of the 'cloudy' aspect of fusion...or even what autodesk is doind at all...
05:16 PM XXCoder: if you use windows fusion360 seems best for price
05:16 PM XXCoder: but freecad is also free, if less than perfect
05:16 PM Wolf_: fusion 360 works on mac as well
05:16 PM {HD}: I will never forgive autocad for what they did to eaglecad.
05:17 PM XXCoder: but not linux sadly
05:17 PM zeeshan: [hd] inventor + hsm
05:17 PM {HD}: Screw price. I want best, most versitle, intutive-ness...ect..
05:17 PM zeeshan: no need to look fvurther! :P
05:17 PM XXCoder: whats price on inventor
05:17 PM zeeshan: if you're not doing 5 axis stuff
05:17 PM {HD}: zeeshan: I know and like HSM...Ill look into Inventor.
05:17 PM zeeshan: you can get a license for inventor with hsm 2.5 axis included
05:17 PM zeeshan: for 2500 a year
05:18 PM zeeshan: or hsm pro for 3200 a year
05:18 PM zeeshan: worth the money
05:18 PM XXCoder: yeah depends on what for
05:18 PM {HD}: I was leaning Solidworks + HSM but, thought I would ask before I made a choice.
05:18 PM zeeshan: im coming from solidworks + mastercam
05:18 PM {HD}: $2500 a year is like one job using the software then its free after that.
05:19 PM zeeshan: exactly :P
05:19 PM zeeshan: [hd] http://imgur.com/gallery/7GvVH?lr=0
05:19 PM zeeshan: thats how i did this project!
05:19 PM {HD}: zeeshan: Oh, Inventor is autodesk...I just don't like them as a company...I guess I could overlook that for some badass software though.
05:20 PM XXCoder: zeeshan: so toooons of cuts for blade part eh
05:21 PM zeeshan: haha yea
05:21 PM zeeshan: =D
05:21 PM XXCoder: I guess other side is cut blade part then faceoff?
05:21 PM zeeshan: nah
05:21 PM zeeshan: same path is made for other side
05:21 PM zeeshan: then final grind after heat treat
05:21 PM XXCoder: no tabs for breakoff
05:22 PM XXCoder: so I guess its just finish cut and stop
05:22 PM XXCoder: and yeah final result wow
05:26 PM {HD}: I think I am going to try solidworks + hsm...I just cannot get over my dislike for autodesk...
05:28 PM {HD}: zeeshan: Where is the sheeth?
05:28 PM zeeshan: wife has to make it still
05:28 PM zeeshan: :)
05:28 PM {HD}: ha, nice.
05:28 PM JT-Mobile: zeeshan, nice
05:29 PM zeeshan: thanks jt :D
05:29 PM zeeshan: hsm is owned by autodesk too hd :)
05:29 PM {HD}: zeeshan: DONT tell me that!
05:29 PM {HD}: Ugh!
05:29 PM XXCoder: few nmore years autodesk will own world
05:29 PM JT-Mobile: lolo
05:30 PM JT-Mobile: or lol even
05:30 PM zeeshan: haha
05:30 PM zeeshan: they own delcam too
05:30 PM JT-Mobile: stupic laptop keyboard
05:30 PM {HD}: zeeshan: I knew that. I was using artcam before it was autocad though.
05:30 PM zeeshan: jt did you ship another card to hamilton? :D
05:30 PM zeeshan: i told my friend to get it from your store
05:30 PM zeeshan: i dont know if he ordered or not
05:30 PM JT-Mobile: not lately
05:30 PM {HD}: They just buy up everyone and make it cloud based...

08:10 PM malcom2073: Who's Will, and how did he get you ire?
08:14 PM gregcnc: huh this youtube advertising boycott is pretty serious I wonder how they'll deal with it
08:16 PM {HD}: Is it that hard to mark offensive videos?
08:17 PM gregcnc: who gets to decide?
08:17 PM malcom2073: I would think that would sort itself: Mark them offensive, if they're offensive, they don't get ads, so they don't get revanue
08:18 PM {HD}: gregcnc: The people paying for the advertisments should be able to tick boxes "I dont want this add on any video that uses foul language"...ect...
08:18 PM malcom2073: Who decides what videos use foul language, or are "offensive" ?
08:18 PM malcom2073: And how do you stops ads from being on those videos before enough people "vote" that it is offensive?
08:19 PM {HD}: No ads until the votes are in.
08:19 PM jdh: some people are easily offended
08:19 PM gregcnc: so a bunch of people flag a clip as offensive and now YT has to check if they are? i guess that's how CL does it
08:19 PM malcom2073: jdh: The world is easily offended :-P
08:29 PM roycroft: some people are easily offensive as well
08:37 PM {HD}: I am always offended
08:37 PM {HD}: Its kind of like the HULK!
08:39 PM {HD}: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Qq6dQwLh1s
08:41 PM {HD}: EPIC!
08:45 PM MrHindsight: I'm offended that they are offended
08:46 PM MrHindsight: do the videos not allow the user to close the video?
08:47 PM MrHindsight: or do springs shoot out from the monitor and latch onto the viewers eyelids and force them open and at the same time paralyze their necks and hands?
08:53 PM Crom: oooohhhhh MY GOD!!! what a piece of crap school http://fox2now.com/2017/03/22/4-year-old-suspended-for-bringing-a-shell-casing-to-preschool-daycare-goes-viral-on-facebook/?sf65302059=1
08:54 PM MrHindsight: Crom: welcome to the age of paranoia, it's not new, schools have been pulling this crap for over a decade
08:57 PM MrHindsight: Crom: plug this into google: schools suspended finger gun
08:58 PM Crom: hehe... this kid also did that...
08:58 PM Crom: and the poptart gun
09:01 PM CaptHindsight: Crom: it really went downhill after 9-11
09:03 PM Crom: yep.... Tim McVeigh didn't help
09:09 PM {HD}: Hey dudes! I am wiring up my homing micro switches...I am going to wire them direct to my parallel break out board. Should I wire them up NC or NO?
09:12 PM CaptHindsight: {HD}: one train of thought is that they should be NO so that a short to ground or closing of the switch brings the signal to ground
09:13 PM CaptHindsight: so you know that the switch has gone low or if the signal stays low when you try to move the axis to any position that you have a short to ground
09:17 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: So, I could achieve more data by having them NO.
09:17 PM {HD}: Normall operation and short detection
09:19 PM CaptHindsight: limit and a short
09:19 PM {HD}: That seems logical to me. Should I wire up an RC debouncer or try it without first?
09:20 PM CaptHindsight: however if the wire breaks then the axis could crash since the signal will not go low
09:21 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: OMG! That is also logical!
09:21 PM hesperaux_: can anyone recommend a motherboard that is good for linuxcnc?
09:21 PM hesperaux_: is it okay to use a pci or pcie parallel port, or does it have to be onboard?
09:22 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: Since the switches have 3 poles maybe I just wire them all up.
09:22 PM CaptHindsight: hesperaux_: PCI or PCIe LPT cards work
09:22 PM {HD}: hesperaux_: pci/pcie is fine. Pretty much any motherboard. I doubt most people bought new hardware to run linuxcnc on.
09:23 PM hesperaux_: ok cool
09:23 PM CaptHindsight: the only time it;s an issues if if you require EPP mode with an FPGA then some PCI/e LPT cards have flaky EPP hardware
09:24 PM CaptHindsight: it's an issue
09:29 PM CaptHindsight: {HD}: I buy new hardware all the time for Linuxcnc since most customers won't like the idea of having used hardware in their custom machines
09:30 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: Well, if you are selling a product then that makes sense. I get the impression that a LOT of people here are messing around in their basements.
09:31 PM CaptHindsight: {HD}: yeah, that covers most users
09:32 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: What kind of machines do you sell?
09:33 PM CaptHindsight: {HD}: I build custom machines that you can't find off the shelf
09:33 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: So, anything as long as you cannot currently just buy one?
09:34 PM CaptHindsight: multi-axis inkjet, materials deposition, additive manufacturing, sub-micron machining etc
09:34 PM {HD}: sub-micron machining! Tell me more about that.
09:35 PM CaptHindsight: one example http://www.jcnabity.com/fibmill1.htm
09:37 PM CaptHindsight: you might like some of the pics here http://www.jcnabity.com/pictures.htm
09:38 PM {HD}: SUPER MICRO-DOTS!

09:44 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: Oh wow seems relevant
09:44 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: What users video is this? His IRC name?
09:44 PM CaptHindsight: dunno if he has one
09:45 PM XXCoder: bought som router bits
09:45 PM XXCoder: nice
09:48 PM {HD}: I have trouble paying attenation to the videos content when there is doily drapery in the shop
09:48 PM XXCoder: link?
09:50 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: So his switches have 3 leads each but he doesnt expain it really.
09:53 PM {HD}: Alright, back to the lab to wire this thing up.
10:00 PM XXCoder: {HD}: working on amchine eh
10:00 PM XXCoder: and I dont play in basement, I play in second living room lol
10:08 PM CaptHindsight: by living room do you mean room full of equipment?
10:09 PM BeachBumPete: Hey folks how are things in linuxCNC land ;)
10:10 PM XXCoder: hey hey
10:10 PM XXCoder: hows your personal beach home
10:11 PM BeachBumPete: the home is great man. very comfy
10:11 PM BeachBumPete: Finally managed to pick up an Argon cylinder for the Tig unit.
10:11 PM BeachBumPete: Its been FAR too long since I stuck some pieces of metal together

10:12 PM BeachBumPete: man that RB1 retrofit looks sweet
10:13 PM XXCoder: lol
10:13 PM CaptHindsight: even zeeshans garage is in there
10:13 PM BeachBumPete: I saw that
10:14 PM BeachBumPete: heh one of my scope rail risers comes up in that search
10:15 PM BeachBumPete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BcfYsH4jyM Oh and this beauty
10:18 PM BeachBumPete: I have been wanting to make an L shaped bracket to mount my Cat40 tool fixture on the machines enclosure to get it off my work bench but I could not weld the two pieces of steel together
10:18 PM XXCoder: cant just hit em together? ;)
10:19 PM BeachBumPete: I started to machine and drill and tap them together but it seemed such a waste of time
10:19 PM BeachBumPete: I got em Tig'd up this afternoon as soon as I hooked up the damn bottle.
10:19 PM XXCoder: oh btw I went to radio hack massive closedown sale
10:19 PM BeachBumPete: Oh and one piece of good news....
10:19 PM XXCoder: prices is STILL nuts even at say 60% off
10:20 PM BeachBumPete: I bought this bottle instead of leasing
10:20 PM XXCoder: no wonder theyre going down. I bnought 2 red and 2 green nice big indictor lights, might be useful for my console
10:20 PM BeachBumPete: and when they told me what the price to fill it was I almost fell on the floor
10:20 PM BeachBumPete: Radio Shack has not been the same to me for a decade
10:21 PM XXCoder: they peddle useless crap
10:21 PM XXCoder: so bottle fill price?
10:21 PM BeachBumPete: So I used to rent a 330CF cylinder in Tennessee
10:22 PM BeachBumPete: it was like $240 for a five year lease
10:22 PM BeachBumPete: then each time I filled it the cost was like $94
10:22 PM BeachBumPete: here for some reason the SAME size bottle is only $50
10:22 PM XXCoder: and no rental cost. bonus'
10:23 PM BeachBumPete: I wanted to buy another 330 bottle
10:23 PM BeachBumPete: but they sell the big ones for just under $300
10:23 PM BeachBumPete: so with the fill it would have been almost $400 with tax etc
10:23 PM BeachBumPete: so I got the 125CF cylinder filled for just under $300
10:23 PM BeachBumPete: but here is the catch
10:24 PM BeachBumPete: they said that if I find the smaller bottle getting filled too much and it is annoying I can pay the difference between the price of the smaller one and the big one when I come to fill it again
10:24 PM BeachBumPete: and they would upgrade me at any time
10:24 PM BeachBumPete: the fill on the smaller bottle is only $30
10:25 PM BeachBumPete: so I will see how it goes
10:25 PM BeachBumPete: if I find I am filling it too often I may just upgrade
10:25 PM BeachBumPete: pretty nice really
10:25 PM XXCoder: not bad
10:25 PM BeachBumPete: I have some work coming for a customer I am building a kitchen for at work
10:25 PM BeachBumPete: they have several steel brackets they want fabricated custom
10:26 PM BeachBumPete: and they have a beautiful big lifted Ford Excursion the husband wants something welded for
10:26 PM BeachBumPete: so I figured that would pay for the bottle easy so I went today and grabbed one.
10:26 PM BeachBumPete: Nice when it does not come out of your own pocket I think
10:27 PM Crom: hmmm linuxcnc 2.8.1 gmoccapy feedrate 100% button isn't working
10:28 PM BeachBumPete: I need to add some of those buttons to my CNC
10:28 PM BeachBumPete: I would like to have a couple spindle speed buttons like 1000 and 2500 etc
10:29 PM BeachBumPete: I use 1000 for my edge finders a lot
10:29 PM BeachBumPete: and I use 2500 for a lot of manual quick machining and running my facemill
10:30 PM BeachBumPete: mine does not have a 100 percent feedrate button just the sliders because I am just using the stock linuxCNC interface
10:31 PM XXCoder: hmm wondering
10:31 PM XXCoder: is there a way to control led out of BOB and linuxcnc?
10:32 PM Crom: LED light emitting diode?
10:33 PM XXCoder: yeah
10:33 PM Crom: for like a M code?
10:34 PM XXCoder: dunno like status indiction or something
10:34 PM XXCoder: machine on, spindle on, maching running, so on
10:34 PM Crom: hmmm hmmm spindle on... is easy... P17 controls relay... P14 I think is open...
10:36 PM Crom: still working on Arduino Mega ethernet.. MESA on the cheap... that's posible
10:41 PM {HD}: How hot should a stepper motor get?
10:42 PM XXCoder: warm but not cooking hand
10:42 PM {HD}: Oh =0
10:46 PM Crom: 85C I think
10:47 PM {HD}: I am running this https://hobbycnc.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/23-305-DS8A-Specs.pdf with my driver set to 2.8 Peak Amp...and this thing gets cooking hot! 115F in a few mins of run time.
10:48 PM {HD}: I guess I should measure what my driver is actually putting out instead of relying on the dip switches.
10:51 PM XXCoder: yeah
10:51 PM XXCoder: thats why stepper boards tend to have switches from 100% to 25% power
10:51 PM XXCoder: mine is set at 75%
10:52 PM XXCoder: my steppers can theorically run at 3a but im using 2a
10:53 PM XXCoder: got questuon on inlays, any of you ever tried it? if so, how do you guys ensure thay parts fit together?
10:56 PM {HD}: I am running at like 10% max power and it is still cookin...I will have to get my meter out.
10:56 PM XXCoder: ouch
10:56 PM XXCoder: yeah
10:57 PM {HD}: XXCoder: I did an inlay using artcam 'inlay tool' it did the calculations for op cut and ip cut...worked perfect.
10:57 PM XXCoder: interesting. I use estlcam, but unsure how that would work for inlay
10:58 PM CaptHindsight: heh I stopped into Fastenal the other day to pick up some last minute fasteners before the weekend...
10:59 PM CaptHindsight: while I'm there they said that they would be happy to have a salesperson stop by every week to make sure we don't run out of anything :)
11:00 PM CaptHindsight: I didn't know what a hardship it is to order more fasteners when you run low
11:00 PM CaptHindsight: "hey we are out of 1/4-20 1.5" button head hex socket, what do we do?"
11:01 PM CaptHindsight: "jesus, I don't know, check the sofa?"
11:01 PM CaptHindsight: "nope not in there, what on earth should we do? Help us!"
11:01 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j9XBGR_b8s
11:03 PM {HD}: CaptHindsight: My outside reps were my favorites...always bringing by food and shit when they came to check stock...
11:03 PM CaptHindsight: "oh no we ran out of paper towels, what to do?"
11:04 PM CaptHindsight: if only there was a way to get more of such things
11:04 PM {HD}: Quick call the rep!
11:04 PM {HD}: Tell him to bring tacos!
11:04 PM CaptHindsight: {HD}: did they have to remind you to eat as well? :)
11:05 PM {HD}: Yea.
11:05 PM CaptHindsight: "doc, I've been losing weight and haven't been to the toilet in a week, what do you think is wrong?"
11:06 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUHxj5Cu2QA nicer video
11:09 PM XXCoder: autocaptions is little gibberish when he outlines how he did it
11:09 PM XXCoder: so its bit unclear to me
11:11 PM XXCoder: im guessing the inlay part should be slightly shorter so it fits better but captions isnt clear
11:13 PM XXCoder: blood linseed oil :P
11:14 PM {HD}: whats that?
11:14 PM XXCoder: autocaptions mangled statement
11:16 PM XXCoder: I wish more poeple wouild caption videos.
11:34 PM {HD}: yawn
11:34 PM the_wench: wake up {HD}
11:34 PM {HD}: wtf!
11:35 PM XXCoder: yawn
11:35 PM the_wench: wake up XXCoder
11:36 PM XXCoder: its a bot. been a while since wench spoe
11:36 PM {HD}: lol, but WHY!
11:36 PM XXCoder: no idea
11:44 PM Crom: yawn
11:44 PM the_wench: wake up Crom
11:44 PM Crom: poke
11:44 PM XXCoder: the_wench: help
11:44 PM Crom: get me a cuppa wench
11:44 PM XXCoder: help?
11:44 PM XXCoder: wow no bot helps lol
11:45 PM Crom: I like the bot on DIYCNC
11:45 PM Crom: give a title for a link
11:48 PM XXCoder: HMMM https://www.amazon.com/Degree-Engraving-CNC-Router-Tool/dp/B0126DSRIA/
11:48 PM XXCoder: {HD}: what ya think
11:49 PM XXCoder: https://www.amazon.com/20pcs-3-175mm-Carbide-Engraving-Router/dp/B016D6P5IG/ not bad too
