01:18 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AhJpm_llvY
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: morning rom Germany
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: still awake
01:48 AM XXCoder: yeah whats up
01:48 AM IchGucksLive: cnn calls 160k people off as heavy rain ponds ypour regian
01:49 AM XXCoder: I heard f that but not my state I think lemme look
01:49 AM XXCoder: very heavy rain coming this wed though
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: http://news.sky.com/
01:49 AM XXCoder: looks like washingtonian foreverain
01:52 AM XXCoder: ahh yes calfornia
01:52 AM XXCoder: ironic as they had bad dought for long years
01:52 AM XXCoder: then last year finally more rain, and now too much
01:52 AM IchGucksLive: thats what T cals alternating Facts
01:52 AM IchGucksLive: it is as it is
01:52 AM IchGucksLive: get around with it
01:52 AM XXCoder: alternate facts is lies heh
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: only 4 out of 200 students here as COLD hit the country
01:54 AM XXCoder: fun
01:54 AM IchGucksLive: -2C outside 15C expected tomorrow
01:54 AM XXCoder: boring day I guess
01:54 AM IchGucksLive: good to build mashines
01:55 AM IchGucksLive: i will ask them to get a hand on it
01:55 AM XXCoder: you build em yourself? thought students build em as education
01:55 AM IchGucksLive: at least clening
01:55 AM IchGucksLive: no
01:55 AM IchGucksLive: only me most the time
01:55 AM XXCoder: interesting
01:55 AM IchGucksLive: from Saw to R
01:56 AM XXCoder: cool :)
01:56 AM IchGucksLive: 4 of the small ones to go
01:57 AM IchGucksLive: and one large orderd as to many wood parts
01:57 AM XXCoder: so you make em tpo order?
01:57 AM IchGucksLive: i got max one year per school
01:58 AM IchGucksLive: max range is 30km
01:58 AM IchGucksLive: 1day a week
01:58 AM XXCoder: ahh so you go around school setup machines
01:58 AM XXCoder: *schools
01:58 AM IchGucksLive: yes that is the Gov's thought
01:59 AM IchGucksLive: get a AL Bar 40x20 mm 6m
01:59 AM IchGucksLive: and let the show begin
01:59 AM IchGucksLive: with 4 "old" men
01:59 AM IchGucksLive: ok im off
02:00 AM XXCoder: later
02:49 AM minibnz: Argh!!! my new steppers arrived today.. but i dont have time to play with them.. i have to do work.... :(
02:49 AM minibnz: 4250z/in of torque and i cant play :(
02:50 AM XXCoder: aww
02:50 AM minibnz: yeah i know 1st world problems...
02:51 AM minibnz: i could probably get these installed and then do my work but you all know how that will end up.. i will just sit there making chips all night instead of doing my job..
02:54 AM minibnz: so i need to get to ticket scanners into a box for fedex to pickup in the morning.. i already have 7 done so the next three that i need to do could only take an hour or so.. but i really should get all the spare units ready too, i can bill them for my time and i would have the next job already sorted. hmmmm
02:57 AM minibnz: oh and to top that off i got my new 3d printer back from the shop after the mainboard fired.. i so want to play with that too...
02:57 AM minibnz: damn this having two jobs kinda sucks until pay day at least..
03:08 AM minibnz: ok im going to do some work work.. :(
03:09 AM minibnz: i'm kinda worried about swapping the gearbox from my old z motor to the new one..
03:09 AM minibnz: but that can wait.. work must be done..
03:13 AM Nerterologist: Good to know there's some CNC channels here
03:20 AM bnz: yes this channel has been very helpful :)
03:21 AM XXCoder: yeah
03:22 AM Nerterologist: Last time I even went on IRC at all I wasn't a machinist
03:23 AM bnz: i'm no machinist..
03:45 AM bnz: i make lumps of metal take new forms.. bc790c23689ac6bcebe9acde58a23489
03:45 AM bnz: oops sorry for the hash… wrong screen selected when testing these ticket scanners..
03:45 AM XXCoder: lol
04:13 AM Nerterologist: haha
04:17 AM bnz: ok thats six units tested.. just gotta put em back in a box and do the fedex crap..
04:18 AM Deejay: moin
04:18 AM bnz: hmm i hope i have enough tape to seal the boxes
04:28 AM bnz: dang I'm out of packing tape.. i meant to redistribute one from my day job, i saw them on the shelf but forgot to grab one :(
04:29 AM bnz: now i gotta go to a servo station or 711 and buy some..
04:29 AM bnz: bbl
04:29 AM bnz: first need some pants.. :(
04:29 AM Deejay: out-of-tape-error ;) good luck
04:53 AM bnz: ok back now.. i could only find brown tape.. it don't look as nice on our bright white boxes but it will do for now..
04:54 AM bnz: sad thing was if i had of paid attention while driving there i might have seen that officeworks was still open :(
04:54 AM bnz: saw them shutting shop on the way back....
05:24 AM Valen_ is now known as Valen
05:44 AM minibnz: ok so works all done... now to pull the gearbox off this stepper and attach it to the new one :)
05:44 AM minibnz: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/172143803903?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
05:45 AM XXCoder: you work at home?
05:45 AM minibnz: nights..
05:45 AM minibnz: day job im in the city
05:46 AM XXCoder: cool
05:46 AM jthornton: morning
05:47 AM minibnz: hmmm got the box off the stepper no problem.. but the hard part is going to be getting the gear off the old stepper, drilling a hole i the new steppers shaft and fitting the gear in the right spot..
05:52 AM archivist: go without gearbox, less backlash
05:55 AM minibnz: this gearbox has less than 1.5' and the worm drive on my Z axis has 540'deg of backlash so i dont think the box is hurting me any..
05:56 AM minibnz: i know what you are saying but in this case it dont mater :)
06:01 AM minibnz: awww man.. the shafts are different sizes :( new motor bigger than old.. i might be able to drill it out on the lathe but it might weaken the gear too much..
06:03 AM archivist: time to fit a ball screw
06:04 AM minibnz: yeah i know but that means loosing the handle on the Z axis.. so far i have managed to keep all my handles..
06:05 AM minibnz: thinking of moving the motor to the hand handle rather than the micro adjust knob.
06:06 AM minibnz: if i was to go to a ballscrew on my z axis i would need to get even bigger stepper motor..
06:08 AM minibnz: i would also have to modify the belt drive on the motor which will mean rebuilding the power drawbar i have built as well.. oh the chain reaction :)
06:08 AM minibnz: i have sorta painted myself into a corner now i think about it..
06:14 AM gonzo_: I looked at adding a drive to the power feed on my BP mill. But the play on the quill rack was just nasty
06:14 AM gonzo_: so stripped the lot and am building for a ballscrew
06:14 AM gonzo_: But there is nothing else manual lect on the mill, so I'm not losing anything
06:15 AM gonzo_: left
06:23 AM bnz: i don't have space to have a drill press and the little mill have is pretty good for that so i would like to keep it.. i will keep looking into solutions I know a ballscrew is the way to go but i really need super accurate Z axis just don't want to stuff jobs or tools
06:24 AM bnz: if i am carefull with my geode i can avoid it most of the time
06:25 AM bnz: geode damn spell correct...
06:25 AM bnz: damn it.. it did it again GCODE
06:25 AM bnz: where is that setting.. hmmmm
06:27 AM jthornton: format c
06:27 AM minibnz: heheh
06:29 AM XXCoder: rm -rf /
06:30 AM minibnz: sudo rm -rf / you shouldnt be running as root normally you could do somthing stupid by accident.. ...
06:33 AM minibnz: hmmm this gear will collapse if i take 1mm from its inner radius.. thats 2mm in diameter.. i could maybe strip the motor and machine its shaft down, but thats just as scary..
06:34 AM XXCoder: you have a lathe?
06:35 AM minibnz: yip
06:35 AM XXCoder: honestly stepper isnt complex
06:35 AM XXCoder: I dissemled one former dead stepper
06:35 AM XXCoder: just 4 bolts remove
06:35 AM XXCoder: and out comes nice round part you can bolt to lathe
06:35 AM minibnz: i know i just have to keep the shavings off the magnets and the magnets from touching the outside as i pull it apart and put it back together again..
06:35 AM XXCoder: just tape over the windings and such
06:37 AM minibnz: oh the windings stay in the housing. its the magnets that come out i need to protect..
06:41 AM minibnz: ok the four screws are out the warranty is null and void.. to the lathe,,,,
06:49 AM bnz: oh man that sux… i have the rotor in my hands i taped up all the magnets and bearings only to find i can grip the damn thing.. i have to remove the bearing to get a grip of it.. my lathe is a little todler sized C3
06:50 AM bnz: now i either gotta make or buy a bearing puller :(
06:50 AM XXCoder: ugh
06:51 AM bnz: or take it all the way out west and use my mates lathe on the weekend.. :(
06:51 AM bnz: anyone got a link to a puller that will pull 608z's (skate board bearings) off a shaft?
06:55 AM archivist: do not take spetters apart if you wish to keep the magnetism
06:56 AM archivist: steppers
06:56 AM bnz: too late :)
06:57 AM XXCoder: how do it lose magnetism if apart?
06:58 AM bnz: when it touches other metal it changes the poles strength when it magnetise the new bit of metal. now its only a very small effect but in a stepper this will lead to some poles being stronger than others so when you do your full rotation you will get different torques out of the different poles..
06:59 AM XXCoder: hmm it does not slowly reset with usage?
06:59 AM bnz: so the idea is to be Very Very careful when you remove and install the rotor and when working in general..
07:00 AM bnz: i dunno if it resets per say as when the motor is used normally you are not trying to re/de magnetise the magnets you only want to bounce off them
07:01 AM archivist: impetuous and determined to break stuff rather that do it right :)
07:01 AM bnz: to reset i think you would need massive currents..
07:01 AM bnz: yup
07:04 AM sync_: it also depends on the magnet materal
07:04 AM sync_: alnico will demag
07:05 AM sync_: neo magnets, not so much
07:05 AM archivist: but the picking up of chips with the thing open is very hard to clean off for re assembly
07:16 AM XXCoder: jthornton: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2016-Aluminium-Structure-VCTY-3D-Printer-DIY-Prusa-i3-3d-Pritner-Kit-With-Two-Rolls-Filament/32727123708.html
07:17 AM XXCoder: they changed the design lol
07:30 AM jthornton: looks like it might be a better design
07:48 AM XXCoder: yeah
07:48 AM XXCoder: I asked in forum see if they have cad designs
07:48 AM XXCoder: if so can mill em
07:48 AM XXCoder: it looks like same frame everything
07:48 AM XXCoder: I still have few 608zz left from few projects
08:01 AM nallar is now known as Ross
08:10 AM jthornton: they have a forum?
08:10 AM XXCoder: thingverse yeah
08:11 AM XXCoder: http://www.thingiverse.com/groups/flsun-prusa-user-group
08:11 AM pink_vampire|2: hi
08:11 AM XXCoder: hey
08:11 AM pink_vampire|2 is now known as pink_vampire
08:12 AM pink_vampire: new printer?
08:12 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: ^
08:12 AM XXCoder: they changed design a little. no I dont own it
08:12 AM XXCoder: I have older design
08:12 AM pink_vampire: did you print some new things with it?
08:13 AM XXCoder: not lately been busy with cnc router
08:13 AM XXCoder: time for me to lay horzionally for around 7 hours
08:13 AM pink_vampire: hehe
08:13 AM XXCoder: insomia sucks
08:13 AM XXCoder: night
08:14 AM pink_vampire: what is "insomia"?
08:14 AM gregcnc: can't sleep
08:15 AM pink_vampire: I have bigger problem right now
08:29 AM minibnz: ok the stepper motor is all back together now featuring a 6mm output shaft diameter.. next i gotta drill a hole for the dowel.. but my 2m drill was blunt now its broken so i have to get a new 2mm drill or five
08:58 AM * Deejay tries to install linux-cnc simulator on 16.04 now
09:33 AM Deejay: yay, compilation successful
09:33 AM Deejay: that was easy
10:26 AM jensor: How do you setup axis to open with the previous ngc file?
10:48 AM archivist: it opens with the default rather than previous, see https://forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/49-basic-configuration/22953-open-last-gcode-file-used
11:00 AM cradek: jensor: it doesn't have that feature. However the most recently used files are available on the menu
11:05 AM archivist: bar that page I linked has a dead link to the old forum!
11:05 AM archivist: bah even
11:08 AM CaptHindsight: whaddayah know, the $13 HF cordless drill only lasted 3 weeks
11:09 AM gregcnc: within exchange period?
11:09 AM archivist: jensor, with some searching see https://forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/21-axis/8700-opens-on-the-last-created-file
11:09 AM CaptHindsight: have to check the warranty
11:10 AM archivist: cradek, hows about adding that in some way
11:10 AM CaptHindsight: 90 days
11:11 AM archivist: did it last more than the design life of 4 hours actual motion
11:13 AM CaptHindsight: 1/8" drill into 20 ga sheet and the brushes started smoking, now it just smokes when you press the trigger
11:14 AM CaptHindsight: I'd say maybe 1 hour total motion
11:14 AM gregcnc: i wonder what the dumpster looks like behind HF
11:15 AM CaptHindsight: pretty sure they have daily pickups :)
11:15 AM _methods: i hear they ship the broken stuff back to warehouse
11:15 AM _methods: then sell it online again
11:16 AM _methods: and then if it comes back they sell all the broken stuff in big boxes at auction
11:16 AM CaptHindsight: I picked this up when I could not find the box with my real drills
11:16 AM _methods: random boxes filled with broken harbor freight stuff
11:16 AM roycroft: and if you don't need to make precision parts, and won't be doing much besides drilling it or cutting it up it's finea/j ##homebrew
11:16 AM roycroft: ack
11:16 AM roycroft: sorry
11:16 AM roycroft: and if you don't need to make precision parts, and won't be doing much besides drilling it or cutting it up it's finea/j ##homebrew
11:16 AM roycroft: dammit - i have a buffer that won't clear
11:17 AM CaptHindsight: if you are close to the store
11:17 AM _methods: http://www.palletbid.com
11:17 AM gregcnc: holy crap, by the truck load http://www.departmentstoreliquidations.com/harbor-freight-tools-truckload-p/hfthtrk1.htm
11:17 AM _methods: yeah
11:17 AM CaptHindsight: the battery packs are fine, I use the cells in other tools
11:19 AM archivist: a shitload by truck or truckload of shit
11:19 AM _methods: both
11:19 AM _methods: lol
11:19 AM CaptHindsight: battery packs, gloves, buckets, sand paper, so far have been worth it
11:20 AM CaptHindsight: in China they sell the cordless drills by voltage, for every 3V more the price goes up
11:20 AM CaptHindsight: and it's all similar to the HF crap
11:21 AM CaptHindsight: same for welders, cheap but last maybe half a year of daily use
11:21 AM CaptHindsight: I was never able to find quality tools there unless they were imported
11:24 AM jensor: <archivist> Thanks for link, I'll check it out.
11:24 AM CaptHindsight: "Approximate Original Value: $65-75,000"
11:26 AM sync_: sandpaper I only use VSM
11:29 AM CaptHindsight: their torque limiting wrenches, sockets and extensions can be handy
11:30 AM gregcnc: until you bust a knuckle
11:30 AM CaptHindsight: they bend or twist before the fastener breaks or gets rounded
11:30 AM gregcnc: good for inept mechanics
11:31 AM CaptHindsight: I have a 3/8 extension with a 180 deg twist
11:31 AM skunkworks: yikes
11:31 AM skunkworks: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-MACH-3-Professional-CNC-Controller/
11:31 AM CaptHindsight: not sure how they get the metal so pliable
11:32 AM roycroft: they mix it with sean spicer's used chewing gum
11:33 AM gregcnc: they probably don't know either
11:35 AM gregcnc: skunkworks is that guy from yara or what?
11:35 AM Loetmichel_: CaptHindsight: are there some REALLY cheap 3 cell Cordless drills out there?
11:35 AM Loetmichel_: that can be delivered to germany?
11:35 AM CaptHindsight: well instructables has 2 million people that receive their newsletter
11:36 AM Loetmichel_: i have a long sleeping project to make 20 robot chassis for a highschool robot class
11:37 AM Loetmichel_: that was in the beginning planned to work with 2 cheap 12V nicd cordless drills
11:37 AM gregcnc: "Control of CNC machines with EMC software" http://www.yara-automation.com/products/modular-industrial-pc/industrial-pc-base-module/
11:37 AM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel_: I'm sure you'd find them at any of the electronics markets
11:37 AM Loetmichel_: but that supply has been dried out here in germany...
11:37 AM Loetmichel_: once you could see 12V nicd cordless drills for less than 20€
11:38 AM Loetmichel_: now its more like 60 eur for a cheap Liion one
11:38 AM gregcnc: Portillos for lunch?
11:38 AM CaptHindsight: consumer protection laws?
11:38 AM Loetmichel_: no, mor like the fact that nicd drills disappered entirely
11:39 AM Loetmichel_: and the li* are still a bit pricey here
11:39 AM gregcnc: NiCd is almost gone
11:40 AM Loetmichel_: that was my prototype bot: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=232
11:40 AM CaptHindsight: http://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/cordless-drills/18-volt-38-in-cordless-drilldriver-with-keyless-chuck-21-clutch-settings-69651.html
11:40 AM Loetmichel_: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=229
11:40 AM Loetmichel_: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=220
11:40 AM Loetmichel_: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=214
11:40 AM roycroft: i've been getting the milwaukee 18v fuel line lately
11:41 AM roycroft: a marked improvement over the old dewalt nimh tools i had been using for a decade or so
11:41 AM Loetmichel_: ... made out of some aluminium scooter wheeps, two cheap drills and some 1/4" paper reinforced resin. (whats the english name for FR2?)
11:42 AM SpeedEvil: Loetmichel_: look on ebay for sellers of hoverboards.
11:42 AM SpeedEvil: Contact them and see if they have broken ones.
11:43 AM Loetmichel_: SpeedEvil: even a broken one would be way out of my price range
11:43 AM gregcnc: MSC has specials on Milwaukee this month, still over Depot price
11:43 AM Loetmichel_: all materials combined should not exceed 50€
11:43 AM Loetmichel_: per pieve
11:43 AM Loetmichel_: per piece
11:43 AM Loetmichel_: and if they have 20 identical dead things i dont know if that would work
11:44 AM Loetmichel_: i meant per bot
11:45 AM CaptHindsight: roycroft: I had hard time finding their corded tools in stock
11:45 AM Wolf_: people still use corded things?
11:46 AM CaptHindsight: lipo lathe and mill
11:47 AM Wolf_: if battery tech would ever evolve
11:48 AM CaptHindsight: then I won't need my smartphone to mill while at the beach
11:48 AM Loetmichel_: CaptHindsight: i want so see the fire when a lathe lipo-pack fails ;)
11:49 AM Loetmichel_: lathe sized
11:50 AM Wolf_: http://i.imgur.com/38lRPE1.jpg almost a portable mill
11:50 AM roycroft: battery technology s evolving, wolf_
11:50 AM CaptHindsight: I'm more excited to see AI take over
11:50 AM roycroft: there was a really interesting episode of nova two weeks ago about battery technology
11:51 AM CaptHindsight: especially jobs like manager, trader/broker
11:51 AM Loetmichel_: Wolf_: i have the portable lathe fitting that: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=14058&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:51 AM archivist: I did fit a jacobs chuck to a starter motor once, burnt out jobber drill easily :)
11:51 AM roycroft: there is some new lithium battery technology that, if it comes to market, will be revolutionary
11:51 AM Loetmichel_: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=520&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:51 AM roycroft: and yes, i said lithium
11:51 AM roycroft: not lithium ion
11:51 AM roycroft: it's so safe that lithium metal can be used
11:51 AM Loetmichel_: ... the meter stick in the foreground is 50cm long ;)
11:51 AM roycroft: so double the power in the same amount of space
11:51 AM Wolf_: I kinda meant on a consumer level of avalibality, battery tech is stalled at li-ion/poly
11:51 AM CaptHindsight: roycroft: whats the power density supposed to be?
11:52 AM roycroft: and it's utterly safe
11:52 AM roycroft: they had some prototypes that were flat sandwiches
11:52 AM roycroft: the nova guy took one and cut it up with a pair of scissors
11:52 AM roycroft: and not only did it not burn/explode, it kept working
11:53 AM CaptHindsight: http://hothardware.com/news/researcher-develops-ionic-battery-2x-energy-density
11:53 AM roycroft: the electrolyte is a lithium-permeated plastic, not a liquid
11:54 AM roycroft: that's the guy, caphindsight
11:55 AM Wolf_: I’ll be impressed when I can get a 18650 cell that is 5-6ah
11:55 AM CaptHindsight: http://ionicmaterials.com/
11:57 AM CaptHindsight: they got $3M from ARPA to work on them
11:58 AM roycroft: if they work out it will be pretty amazing
11:58 AM roycroft: evs will be a lot cheaper, safer, and easier to manufacture
11:59 AM roycroft: no more exploding cell phnes
11:59 AM roycroft: phones
11:59 AM roycroft: at least not because of battery issues
11:59 AM Wolf_: that feature I don’t mind
12:00 PM roycroft: right now i pay $100 for a battery for my 18v milwaukee tools
12:00 PM Wolf_: but evs with longer range would be great, and cheaper battery system = lower cost
12:00 PM roycroft: with the new lithium metal polymer batteries i should be able to get 2x the capacity and pay more like $60
12:01 PM CaptHindsight: https://toytales.ca/mr-machine/
12:01 PM roycroft: if you can pack 2x the power in a battery you get 2x the range
12:02 PM Wolf_: you really think milwaulkee would sell 2x power battery for less then current price even if the internals cost them 1/2 as much lol
12:03 PM roycroft: yes, because market pressure would drive the price down
12:03 PM roycroft: that said
12:03 PM roycroft: milwaukee charge $100 now because dewalt charge $100 and makita charge $100
12:03 PM roycroft: all of them could sell their respective batteries for $50 and still profit
12:03 PM roycroft: and they do
12:03 PM Wolf_: and the v18 nicads were $100...
12:03 PM roycroft: around the winter holidays all of them sell 2 packs for the price of one
12:04 PM Wolf_: yeah that I know, I have 10+ m18 packs
12:04 PM roycroft: but here's the rub
12:05 PM roycroft: currently there are few third-party li ion batteries for the name brand power tools
12:05 PM Wolf_: except I usually get mine during “open house” sales at the local Milwaukee dealer
12:05 PM roycroft: because people are afraid of them because of the perception that they explode
12:05 PM roycroft: when the new technology is out and folks get used to the idea that they're perfectly safe, sales of third-party batteries will skyrocket
12:05 PM CaptHindsight: it's a good thing that we have a free market :p
12:05 PM roycroft: and the price will be driven way down
12:06 PM roycroft: what will then happen is that the price of the tools themselves will go up
12:06 PM roycroft: those battery tools are priced like inkjet printers
12:06 PM Wolf_: lol yeah
12:07 PM roycroft: almost zero margin on the tools
12:07 PM roycroft: with the expectation that all the profit will be made on the batteries
12:07 PM roycroft: some of them even come with "starter" batteries
12:07 PM roycroft: kind of like the starter inkjet cartridges that print about 30 pages
12:07 PM Wolf_: I usually buy tools I need at the dealer w/ 2 batteries, because the total cost is less then bare tool + 2 batts
12:08 PM roycroft: you get a battery that will last 10 minutes with the toold
12:08 PM roycroft: tool
12:08 PM roycroft: and then you end up buying a $100 battery a week later
12:08 PM Wolf_: last 2 tools came with 2x 5.0 packs
12:08 PM roycroft: yeah, the last tool i got came with 2 5.0 packs
12:08 PM roycroft: and an extra charger, which is nice
12:08 PM roycroft: because i have two shops
12:08 PM roycroft: i also have the new milwaukee radio
12:09 PM roycroft: the first one they ever made that also charges
12:09 PM Wolf_: the big cube looking thing?
12:09 PM roycroft: my 12+ year old dewalt radio charged if you plugged it in, or ran off the battery
12:09 PM roycroft: yes
12:09 PM Wolf_: yeah, I think bosch had a patent on the radio+ charger
12:10 PM roycroft: i don't think so, since dewalt has had it for ages
12:10 PM Wolf_: i use the big charger http://i.imgur.com/wFA6L17.jpg
12:10 PM roycroft: unless they licensed the patent from bosch
12:10 PM Wolf_: I think they did
12:10 PM roycroft: when i got my first fuel tools i got a deal where i got $100 off on the kit + $150 off on another milwaukee battery tool
12:10 PM roycroft: the radio was $199 at the time, so i got that and paid the $49
12:12 PM Wolf_: nice
12:13 PM roycroft: i still don't have the portable band saw though
12:13 PM roycroft: which is the main reason i went with the 18v milwaukee stuff in the first place
12:13 PM Wolf_: its nice =)
12:13 PM roycroft: it's more powerful than the corded version
12:13 PM Wolf_: I have the fuel bandsaw and 5” grinder w/ side switch
12:13 PM roycroft: i'll get it some say before too long
12:14 PM roycroft: i have a 7x12 in my welding shop
12:14 PM roycroft: it's too big to move around
12:14 PM roycroft: when i had a 4x6 i could shlep it into the back of my van or pickup and take it to a job site
12:14 PM roycroft: the 7x12 stays put though
12:14 PM Wolf_: mine is a 9x19 (iirc) it doesn’t get moved..
12:14 PM roycroft: and even in my main shop it would be nice to have the portable one so i don't have to run out to the welding shop every time i want to cut something
12:15 PM Wolf_: its worth it if you do metal working IMO, I have 2 corded porta bands as well between the 2 shops
12:16 PM roycroft: i just had to buy a new dishwasher
12:17 PM roycroft: i put that on my home depot card with deferred financing
12:17 PM roycroft: i had just about paid that card down, and was thinking of getting the portable band saw there with deferred financing
12:17 PM roycroft: but i don't want to drive the monthly payments up right now
12:17 PM Wolf_: yeah
12:17 PM roycroft: so i'll wait until the dishwasher is paid off
12:18 PM roycroft: i had some other milwaukee 18v stuff on deferred financing, almost paid off, when the dishwasher failed
12:18 PM * roycroft likes deferred interest financing, especially because he's good at always paying it off on time
12:21 PM Wolf_: very handy if you use it correctly
12:22 PM roycroft: yes
12:22 PM roycroft: which entails a combination of setting a comfortable ceiling on monthly payments and unfailingly paying down on time
12:23 PM roycroft: a lot of people are not disciplined enough to do those two things
12:23 PM roycroft: one thing that helps is leaving the credit cards at home
12:23 PM SpeedEvil: Plus several months float for actual emergencies.
12:23 PM roycroft: that discourages impulse purchases
12:23 PM roycroft: that i consider part of the "comfortable ceiling", speedevil
12:23 PM SpeedEvil: ah
12:23 PM roycroft: but it's a good point to make
12:24 PM roycroft: i don't have a problem with credit cards because i make them work for me
12:24 PM roycroft: i buy almost everything with credit cards
12:25 PM roycroft: most of my day-to-day purchases are made on a card that has 2% cash back rewards, and that i pay off every month
12:25 PM roycroft: i get up to 5% cash back on groceries and fuel with that card, depending on the specials they're running at the time
12:25 PM malcom2073: I bought a car that way: figured out what my max monthly payments should be and shopped based on that. Then any negotiations lower just meant I would pay off earlier
12:25 PM roycroft: i pay all my utilities with that card
12:26 PM roycroft: so the cash rewards add up
12:26 PM IchGucksLive: Hi from Dry germany
12:26 PM malcom2073: Haven't had to use it yet, but I built headroom into it, in case money got tighter
12:26 PM roycroft: i don't believe in paying cc interest
12:26 PM roycroft: but i believe in using credit cards
12:27 PM IchGucksLive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTWyJ1LmDsk so level dropped in CA
12:27 PM malcom2073: There are so many cards willing to give you a year of 0%
12:27 PM SpeedEvil: reward cards have mostly died here (UK) due to recent rulings reducing the amount of profit the CC companies can take per transaction
12:27 PM roycroft: i used to think the cc companies did not like me because i always pay on time and don't carry interest-bearing balances
12:27 PM roycroft: but apparenly they make enough on their merchant charges
12:28 PM roycroft: a few years ago most of my cards had a limit of $1000-$3000
12:28 PM IchGucksLive: the UK has the most packet CC network in the world
12:28 PM roycroft: now almost all of them are at least $10,000
12:28 PM roycroft: i have a couple cards with a limit of $18,000
12:28 PM roycroft: and i don't ask for those limit increases
12:29 PM roycroft: so that tells me they like me
12:29 PM malcom2073: I was angry a bit when I found out credit cards would arbitrarily up your limit without telling you
12:29 PM roycroft: that's nice because my balance to limit percentage is really really low
12:30 PM roycroft: when they increase my limit i don't increase my spending
12:30 PM malcom2073: That could get someone in trouble if they're not watching close enough
12:30 PM malcom2073: Yeah, that's the smart way
12:30 PM malcom2073: Not the common way :)
12:30 PM roycroft: well, i log into the website every couple days for the card that i use for my daily purchases
12:30 PM malcom2073: I know people who, I swear, know to stop spending when it gets declined
12:30 PM roycroft: to make sure i stay on budget
12:30 PM roycroft: it's just like balancing one's checkbook
12:31 PM roycroft: i know how much money i'll have in my paycheck to pay off the card
12:31 PM roycroft: and make sure i don't exceed that amount in charges
12:31 PM roycroft: credit is not inherently scary
12:31 PM roycroft: it's a tool that can be very useful
12:32 PM roycroft: or that can get one in a lot of trouble
12:32 PM roycroft: but the tool is not what causes the trouble
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: jthornton: arent you alo i the bayarea
12:33 PM JT-Shop: far from it
12:33 PM IchGucksLive: Luckely
12:34 PM JT-Shop: why
12:34 PM IchGucksLive: 3days of sun
12:34 PM IchGucksLive: then 6 of Rain ;-)
12:36 PM JT-Shop: we already had 6 months of rain last year
12:36 PM IchGucksLive: and 6Years of drought bevor
12:37 PM IchGucksLive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTWyJ1LmDsk
12:38 PM IchGucksLive: fox 40
12:41 PM IchGucksLive: so 4k qfeet per sec where the max calculation
12:41 PM IchGucksLive: and 12k on sunday where put on
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: WHy the hell are there no forcast prevent
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: as al over the world woudt be as you know the rainvorcast
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: we got a simple bathlake here that is in the waterlevel system
12:43 PM roycroft: it rains steadily here 9 months out of the year
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: they need to keep that level for winter snow melt down
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: even on easter Hot days as they have bathguest
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: US safty is realy the hell of thinking
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: someone needs to be questionend on disicion
12:50 PM Loetmichel_: harhar, wife just ordererd a new Merc GLC hybrid as the new company car... will be delivered end of september... seems mercedes misjudged the demand "a bit" ;)
01:03 PM roycroft: teslas are a half year out, at least
01:03 PM roycroft: and the nissan leaf still has a huge backlog
01:03 PM roycroft: but now that fuel is cheap again, most 'merucans are buying big suvs that they don't need
01:03 PM roycroft: and when fuel goes back up they'll bitch about how much it costs to drive
01:04 PM Loetmichel_: roycroft: wife needs a small suv because of the bad hip
01:04 PM Loetmichel_: she cant sit "low"
01:04 PM Loetmichel_: (wouldnt be able to get out of the car)
01:04 PM roycroft: that's understandable
01:04 PM Loetmichel_: also she needs automatic transmission
01:04 PM Loetmichel_: (no clutch) for the same reason
01:05 PM roycroft: her hip precludes the use of a clutch?
01:05 PM roycroft: yeah
01:05 PM Loetmichel_: so tesla is out of the picture
01:05 PM Loetmichel_: bad hip means pain whenever she uses the left leg
01:05 PM SpeedEvil: tesla has a clutch?
01:05 PM roycroft: no, it does not
01:05 PM roycroft: but it sits pretty low
01:05 PM SpeedEvil: ah
01:05 PM SpeedEvil: Put it on monster-truck wheels.
01:05 PM roycroft: my current car is my first daily driver in decades that does not have a manual transmission
01:06 PM Loetmichel_: SpeedEvil: she wouldnt be able to get out
01:06 PM roycroft: but that's because it's a hybrid
01:06 PM roycroft: it has a dual planetary gear transmission
01:07 PM * Loetmichel_ drives an automatic for the same reason, so she can drive my car should the need arise...
01:07 PM Loetmichel_: ... it has come to the point that when i had the BMW 316i last year it took a few days to "relearn" shifting on a manual ;)
01:08 PM Loetmichel_: you could hear me shifting a few times on every commute for 2-3 days ;)
01:09 PM Loetmichel_: *CREEAAAAK* *grinding noises*
01:09 PM Loetmichel_: <- *shudder*
01:09 PM Loetmichel_: :-)
01:14 PM roycroft: my pickup has a manual transmission
01:14 PM roycroft: as do my vw buses
01:23 PM JT-Shop: gotta love it when someone asks a question here, gets an answer then asks the same question on the forum
01:23 PM gregcnc: lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUz1ZeSClNI
01:24 PM cradek: JT-Shop: heh hoping for a better answer I guess
01:24 PM gregcnc: jt-shop when we were still talking to my mother-in-law when she needed somehting done to her car she would ask me, my father, and 80% of the mechanics in town
01:25 PM gregcnc: she's actually convinced a bodyshop swapped her car for another about 8 years ago
01:26 PM IchGucksLive: double check is ot enoph in T times
01:26 PM gregcnc: the best part is it's a shop I told her not to go to
01:27 PM IchGucksLive: so im off GN8 will see if T get a cool tweet as EU awakes
01:27 PM IchGucksLive: stay try
01:29 PM Loetmichel_: gregcnc: why does she think that?
01:29 PM JT-Shop: lol yea
01:29 PM Loetmichel_: and for the record: i CAN drive manual. (i am german after all)
01:30 PM Loetmichel_: ... i just get a bit rusty after a year of not driving a single manual at all
01:30 PM gregcnc: dunno, I told her to check the vin numbers against the purchase docs, but that's too logical. she thinks they sold the OEM parts and replaced them with who knows what
01:31 PM Loetmichel_: i meant: does she have a reason to belive that? is the car behaving differently?
01:31 PM gregcnc: I have to say the car was a mess when she got it back as if they had side the mirrors off to touch up some scrapes on teh fender
01:32 PM gregcnc: no, I think she belongs in the crazy house
01:32 PM JT-Shop: seems that way
01:32 PM Loetmichel_: gregcnc: be careful with that
01:33 PM gregcnc: oh that problem is fixed, not spoken to in 2 years or more
01:33 PM Loetmichel_: here in germany we have a proverb: "if you take 100 random people from the street and put them in an mental asylum, less then 10 will be released again anytime soon"
01:34 PM CaptHindsight: I usually go with an alien theory or possibly magic
01:34 PM gregcnc: i used to think she was just not intelligent
01:35 PM gregcnc: but reality is she's fairly smart, but acts dumb got take advantage of people
01:35 PM Loetmichel_: what i mean is that most people have a "kink in the dish" here and there
01:35 PM jensor: <archivist> In the referenced https://forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/21-axis/8700-opens-on-the-last-created-file, I get error on lin: elif os.path.exists(lastfile)::
02:43 PM JT-Shop: jensor: your making a filter program?
02:48 PM JT-Shop: you should check to see if lastfile contains anything first
02:55 PM jensor: How do find last file?
02:56 PM jensor: lastfile
02:56 PM JT-Shop: your working with arceye's code?
02:56 PM jensor: No I just want axis to open with the last file>
02:57 PM JT-Shop: we know that
02:57 PM jensor: I am using https://forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/21-axis/8700-opens-on-the-last-created-file
02:58 PM JT-Shop: yea I saw that a few lines up
02:58 PM jensor: open with the last ngc file
02:58 PM JT-Shop: so yes your trying arceye's code
02:58 PM JT-Shop: did you make the changes he suggested?
02:58 PM jensor: don't know that name
02:59 PM jensor: yes
02:59 PM JT-Shop: the post has his name...
02:59 PM JT-Shop: what is the error?
03:00 PM jensor: Tell you in a minute
03:04 PM jensor: elif os.path.exists(lastfile): nameError: name 'lastfile' not defined
03:06 PM JT-Shop: sounds like you didn't copy all the code
03:08 PM jensor: Yes, - looking at it again I see I missed what is probably needed. Thanks.
03:09 PM JT-Shop: if your working with the installed files next update will write over your changes
03:16 PM jensor: Hey - It's working like is supposed to now. Thanks again.
03:18 PM jensor: Looks like that should be included in any update. Makes it so handy when one is testing.
03:23 PM JT-Shop: well it's an incomplete example because there is no way to turn it off...
04:09 PM Deejay: gn8
