[05:24:45] <archivist> nah, blue sky
[05:24:54] <XXCoder> we havent had no rain day for week
[05:25:37] <JT-VB> looks like rain here and at home but clear between
[05:28:52] <IchGucksLive> hi

[05:32:55] <IchGucksLive> Cold in the Shop
[05:37:34] <XXCoder> cool
[05:37:40] <XXCoder> also literally lol
[05:46:12] <IchGucksLive> till evening Bye
[05:48:40] <JT-VB> lol windoze is checking for updates while I chat in linux
[05:49:10] <XXCoder> fancy
[05:49:22] * JT-VB didn't get much programming done this weekend but did get this laptop setup
[05:49:25] <XXCoder> had it update while linux was updating too. (yo I heard you like...)
[05:49:54] <JT-VB> lol I updated linux first

[06:02:34] <JT-VB> yea
[06:02:36] <_methods> heh
[06:02:44] <_methods> well microsoft is doing it on purpose
[06:02:52] <_methods> they want you to buy win10
[06:02:58] <JT-VB> no way
[06:03:00] <_methods> so now updates for win7 take like 8 hours
[06:03:11] <_methods> google it
[06:03:21] <_methods> why is win7 update taking so long
[06:03:37] <JT-VB> it's not even updating just checking
[06:03:38] <XXCoder> dont do any update behind service 2
[06:03:47] <XXCoder> that is, if they didnt make service 3
[06:04:18] <_methods> ah looks like they "patched" it
[06:04:54] <_methods> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3161647
[06:04:59] <XXCoder> yay free windows 10 annoyance for you!!
[06:05:03] <JT-VB> looks like i have service pack 1
[06:05:27] <XXCoder> oh wait think service 1 is last one
[06:05:34] <XXCoder> cant remember
[06:06:19] <_methods> last time i did a fresh win7 install i had to deal with that bs
[06:08:19] <Tom_L> JT-VB the update thing will take forever but there was a fix to speed it up
[06:08:31] <_methods> it's in that kb i just posted
[06:08:38] <_methods> kb3161647
[06:08:53] <Tom_L> ahh, still catching up here..
[06:09:31] <Tom_L> you'll wanna run that win10 thing on it too
[06:12:07] <Tom_L> must not have saved the link on this pc
[06:12:42] <JT-VB> http://www.windowscenthttp://www.windowscentral.com/how-prevent-windows-10-upgrade-files-downloading-pcral.com/how-prevent-windows-10-upgrade-files-downloading-pc
[06:12:47] <JT-VB> that one?
[06:12:57] <Tom_L> probably
[06:14:53] <Tom_L> bad link here
[06:16:11] <ktchk> Hi any one playing robots serial kinematic here???
[06:16:38] <Tom_L> JT-VB, i've got the file if you can't find it
[06:17:03] <JT-VB> I can't seem to download it
[06:19:21] <Tom_L> pm
[06:42:20] <JT-VB> Tom_L: ok got it fixed, thanks
[06:44:26] <JT-VB> still can't get kb3161647 to download
[06:52:44] <JT-VB> I'll try again in the morning
[07:01:03] * JT-VB shuts down and heads out
[07:01:40] <XXCoder> later JT-VB
[07:39:21] <ktchk> morning any robot player??
[07:39:56] <XXCoder> hey mere moral human
[07:40:46] <ktchk> what kinematic??
[08:55:48] <CaptHindsight> _methods: I heard that there are win7 ISO's with the latest updates included
[08:56:52] <archivist> my win2k still runs
[08:57:06] <CaptHindsight> and the win10 updater already killed
[10:11:47] <archivist> is there anything based on this work out in the wild yet http://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/29225
[10:15:11] <sync> what specifically archivist?
[10:15:42] <archivist> the method in a cam package
[10:16:21] <SpeedEvil> neat
[10:16:42] <SpeedEvil> '. We have developed algorithms to compute the visibility information rapidly using graphics hardware. * A scheme for extracting the most "promising" orientation from the visibility information for the tool in a "global" sense.
[10:17:49] <sync> he describes a few methods, but all 5 axis cam packages can generate tool paths using feature extraction
[10:37:14] <yasnak> If you ever need to use Microsoft for their surface support make sure you set aside an entire day because thats how much time you'll waste with their bullshit verifications, emails, owner authorizations and serial numbers. My god...
[10:41:19] <Jymmm> OR, you just install linux
[10:41:52] <Jymmm> in 40 minutes or less too
[10:42:13] <Jymmm> comes with free sprinkles
[10:43:26] <Jymmm> and a bunny
[10:43:37] <Jymmm> with a pancake on it's head
[12:27:02] <IchGucksLive> hi
[12:27:53] <DaViruz> 'lo
[12:29:34] <jthornton> damn good to be home
[12:36:28] <IchGucksLive> someone got a nice X-mas angel on DXF for a children party to be made out of Foam in large size
[12:38:25] <Jymmm> IchGucksLive: google svg
[12:40:09] <IchGucksLive> ok but what to search for
[12:40:31] <IchGucksLive> X-mas angel gives jesus child
[12:42:00] <Jymmm> christmas angel clipart
[12:42:30] <Jymmm> christmas angel silhouette
[12:43:06] <IchGucksLive> ok
[12:44:22] <IchGucksLive> Jymmm: http://pasteall.org/pic/index.php?id=109330
[12:44:52] <Jymmm> looks more like a cupid to me
[12:49:24] <Jymmm> angel silhouette
[12:49:51] <IchGucksLive> Jymmm: http://pasteall.org/pic/index.php?id=109331 CHOOSE one
[12:49:59] <IchGucksLive> the top left or the 4th
[12:50:16] <IchGucksLive> or what did you like

[12:53:34] <IchGucksLive> the 6th top row from left looks the hands like bells
[12:54:22] <Jymmm> This looks nice... https://s3.amazonaws.com/boatoutfitters/outdoor-nativity-sets/window-decor/202632-30023_1_zm.jpg
[12:54:54] <IchGucksLive> ok
[12:56:41] <CaptHindsight> anyone have experience with MediaCom as an ISP? Better than 2 cans and a string, beats DSL, your 10Gb connection is too expensive?
[12:58:00] <Jymmm> CaptHindsight: Check reviews on dslreport
[12:58:04] <Jymmm> CaptHindsight: Check reviews on dslreports
[12:58:30] <CaptHindsight> yup, askin here for firsthand experiences
[12:58:51] <CaptHindsight> dslreports is like yelp
[12:59:33] <Jymmm> ok, check yelp then
[12:59:50] <CaptHindsight> even checked the personals on CL
[13:00:25] <Jymmm> asking 136 ppl in here that are distributed globally about some po dunk ISP which nobody has heard of, may not get you the results you desire.
[13:00:37] <CaptHindsight> really?
[13:00:45] <Jymmm> Nah, just kidding
[13:00:46] <gregcnc> anyone turned much tellurium copper C14500 vs C11000
[13:01:52] <gregcnc> saw little difference milling in the past, but turning drilling seems quite different unfortunately I only had a few scraps of C145 to try
[13:05:38] <IchGucksLive> Jymmm: http://pasteall.org/pic/index.php?id=109332
[13:07:17] <CaptHindsight> IchGucksLive: making xmas ornaments?
[13:07:27] <IchGucksLive> yes
[13:20:18] <IchGucksLive> i will let the office girls of the Kindergarden deside what angel to go for
[13:20:47] <IchGucksLive> hooters xmas angel
[13:21:13] <IchGucksLive> is there a AGE limit to go on a hooters store
[13:21:40] <gregcnc> you mean too old?
[13:22:03] <IchGucksLive> maybe the othere direction
[13:22:24] <gregcnc> no, we start them on titties and beer ASAP
[13:22:26] <Cromaglious_> for the resturant I don't think so
[13:22:39] <Cromaglious_> for the bar same as anywhere 21
[13:23:03] <IchGucksLive> font this Angel on svg google
[13:34:26] <miss0r> I was trying to join here, to ask a bunch of questions. but it turns out my host have bin banned :S
[13:34:34] <miss0r> (i'm using a tunnel at the moment)
[13:35:27] <miss0r> Apparently my IP looked like an open proxy :S
[13:41:34] <CaptHindsight> why botnets are sometimes required
[13:42:08] <miss0r> I'm sure. I'm PMing with a freenode staff member at the moment trying to figure this out
[13:44:09] <IchGucksLive> Gn8
[13:52:37] <Tom_L> jthornton you around?
[13:54:56] <JT-Shop> am now
[13:55:18] <Tom_L> ahh, sent -shop a couple links
[13:55:33] <JT-Shop> just saw them, thanks
[14:02:19] <MacGalempsy> hey guys
[14:02:31] <MacGalempsy> whats going on?
[14:02:40] <Tom_L> eatin leftover pie
[14:02:53] <MacGalempsy> yummm
[14:03:08] <MacGalempsy> pumpkin?
[14:03:10] <JT-Shop> just glad to be back in the land of double layer toilet paper and my own bed lol
[14:03:13] <Tom_L> one is
[14:03:18] <MacGalempsy> lpl
[14:03:20] <MacGalempsy> lol
[14:03:25] <Tom_L> gotta sample em all...
[14:03:34] <MacGalempsy> u go to russia jt?
[14:03:50] <JT-Shop> Lake Taneycomo
[14:04:12] <MacGalempsy> hm
[14:04:13] <Tom_L> in mexico they hang the roll on the wall and you better take what you need with you
[14:04:39] <Tom_L> bums use it for towels too
[14:04:52] <MacGalempsy> its dubbed mountain money for a reason
[14:05:45] <MacGalempsy> im otr back to AR
[14:06:25] <MacGalempsy> we put on 1200 miles over the holiday break
[14:07:10] <Tom_L> we were but decided to stay here afterall
[14:07:29] <Tom_L> driving all day isn't my cup of tea
[14:07:59] <MacGalempsy> i hate it but cest la vie
[14:08:24] <Tom_L> it's ~19-20 hrs either place we go
[14:08:43] <MacGalempsy> ewe.
[14:09:07] <MacGalempsy> Luckily our drive to OKC is only three and a half hours
[14:09:25] <Tom_L> oh that's not bad at all
[14:09:27] <MacGalempsy> But the trip down to pick the wife's Dad up as another 2 each way
[14:09:42] <MacGalempsy> Today I dropped him off and it's 4 hours round-trip
[14:09:53] <miss0r> :-/ my logs speak a sad story. I WAS hosting an open proxy, because I am an idiot. so I have two x 22gb log files generated by the in and outgoing data since saturday. Good thing I plugged the hole. Goddamn botnets !
[14:10:32] <miss0r> I hope I don't get in trouble on behalf of something the botnets did
[14:11:07] <MacGalempsy> That's a lot of text
[14:12:02] <miss0r> it is... I spotted alot of porn sites in the text. like 'GirlCam' stuff.
[14:12:32] <miss0r> as long as its good'ol fashioned porn, i'm not worried. But something sinister could be hiding in there
[14:12:53] <MacGalempsy> Delete and dump
[14:13:28] <miss0r> yeah, its going away. i'm just worried about my static IP showing up in the wrong logs elsewhere doing wrong stuff :)
[14:13:43] <MacGalempsy> :)
[14:14:05] <miss0r> Also, most of the requests come from china... goddamn chinese :)
[14:14:29] <MacGalempsy> Just made the last straightaway home 35 miles to go
[14:14:42] <miss0r> but with all their censoring, I guess they needed it
[14:15:14] <MacGalempsy> "need" porn?
[14:15:26] <miss0r> MacGalempsy: amsolutly
[14:15:36] <miss0r> with a b.
[14:15:58] <miss0r> and another spelling... :)
[14:16:10] <MacGalempsy> ha!
[14:17:34] <MacGalempsy> So I think the next step on my machine is to reset the servo thread and retune the motors for torque mode
[14:18:05] <MacGalempsy> Reset meaning lower it
[14:18:06] <miss0r> I could make up alot of excuses, about english not being my native language and spend alot of time on that, but instead I will have to figure out how to use ProxyRedirect on my server, without allowing content from external sources to be passed through.
[14:20:33] <MacGalempsy> https://flic.kr/p/P8xqr5
[14:20:37] <MacGalempsy> live
[14:21:42] <JT-Shop> MacGalempsy: why torque mode?
[14:22:06] <MacGalempsy> After pulling the servo drives apart and looking at the headers there setup for torque mode
[14:22:19] <MacGalempsy> I always thought they were in velocity mode
[14:23:20] <JT-Shop> ah ok
[14:23:22] <gregcnc> for velocity mode you need tach or high res encoders
[14:23:45] <MacGalempsy> The encoders are 50000 counts per rotation
[14:24:13] <MacGalempsy> However the encoder on the 4th axis is only 1000 counts per Revolution
[14:24:50] <CaptHindsight> is the 4th a rotary table or trunion?
[14:25:44] <MacGalempsy> It's a rotary axis SMW rt-5c
[14:26:14] <MacGalempsy> 5c colley
[14:28:14] <MacGalempsy> i hope retuning will let me take bigger cuts
[14:29:03] <gregcnc> which machine is this?
[14:29:15] <MacGalempsy> the benchman xt
[14:30:01] <gregcnc> what's happening now that you think servo tuning is the issue?
[14:31:25] <MacGalempsy> .02 max cut on aluminum?
[14:31:46] <MacGalempsy> the xyz seem ok.
[14:32:39] <MacGalempsy> but the spindle is in vel mode and i just realized that the machine should be all set torque mode
[15:03:01] <kyle____> think i'm going to bodge together an optical incremental rotary encoder with an arduino tonight
[15:03:05] <kyle____> with a laser cut disk
[15:03:11] <kyle____> because why not
[15:04:26] <kyle____> now the question is, phototransistor, photodiode, or photoresistor?
[15:04:48] <kyle____> i suppose it depends on the hysteresis
[15:13:48] <andypugh> photophobe. An array of tiny vampires and sunlight.
[15:23:48] <kyle____> oh i have a phototransistor
[15:24:19] <kyle____> guess that settles that
[15:24:37] <kyle____> the best tool for the job is always the one you already have
[15:24:48] <kyle____> nothing bad ever happened by adhering to that policy, nope
[15:25:17] <jdh> you don't have cheap chinese encoders laying around?
[15:25:51] <kyle____> no, i'm running out of horizontal surface area
[15:26:12] <jdh> go vertical!
[15:26:17] <kyle____> soon!
[15:26:29] <kyle____> not buying any more furniture because i'm moving in a month
[15:26:41] <jdh> what is the angle of repose for misc. stacked not-quite-junk?
[15:27:04] <kyle____> i would say it depends on the shape of the junk
[15:27:15] <kyle____> electronics? pretty damn steep!
[15:27:45] <jdh> could be determined emperically by examining archivists shop pics
[15:28:03] <kyle____> huehuehue
[15:41:02] <MacGalempsy> andypugh: how are things going?
[15:43:33] <andypugh> With what? G71?
[15:43:42] <andypugh> That’s looking good.
[16:02:08] <MacGalempsy> g71?
[16:06:01] <bpuk> lathe roughing cycles
[16:06:09] <dioz> so guess what guys
[16:06:46] <dioz> my boss, last friday, gave me a notice of layoff due to shortage of work
[16:06:56] <dioz> i went into 3 places today and found someone to hire me already
[16:07:19] <dioz> boss was like "we'd really like you to hang out and wait around for things to pick back up we really wanna keep you employed yada yada"
[16:07:34] <dioz> for the last 2 months he's been sayin things would pick up and there's work just around the corner
[16:07:37] <dioz> new place is stack
[16:07:54] <dioz> benefits, rrsp, boot allowance, tool repair, etc, etc, etc
[16:08:22] <dioz> i gotta level with soon-to-be-xboss
[16:08:39] <dioz> he told me this morning i'd get my last cheque this friday
[16:08:45] <dioz> everything seems to be working out fuckin swell
[16:11:27] <sync> > boot allowance
[16:12:24] <dioz> haha i like Hoffman Boots
[16:12:28] <dioz> specially their lineman boots
[16:13:25] <dioz> http://www.hoffmanboots.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=EH
[16:17:55] <sync> well, if I need special boots on the job my employer has to provide them
[16:25:02] <Deejay> gn8
[16:26:27] <bennettdan> Hello
[16:27:56] <dioz> Hello
[16:28:20] <kyle____> get it, dioz
[16:28:35] <kyle____> don't let some bonehead with an MBA tell you how to live
[16:28:54] <dioz> haha
[16:29:04] <jasonsmr> what are the differences in setup of Mesa 5125 (PCI) and 6125 (PCIE)? Particularly, speed of setup and speed effecency of runtime operation? Basicly is there a huge speed diffrence between PCI and PCIE?
[16:29:07] <dioz> fuck i wanna buy a welder
[16:30:20] <kyle____> me too
[16:30:29] <kyle____> stick, mig, tig, or gas?
[16:34:44] <dioz> tig
[16:34:49] <dioz> most tig can do stick
[16:34:54] <dioz> i wanna do sheet metal
[16:35:00] <dioz> 14-26 gauge
[16:35:36] <bpuk> I love my tig - there have been times I've said 'I wish I had a mig for this' - but the tig did it OK
[16:36:10] <dioz> idk if i wanna spend the money on a red or a blue
[16:36:13] <dioz> i've been looking at this everlast
[16:36:21] <dioz> http://www.everlastwelders.ca/tigwelders/powertig-185-dv.php
[16:36:25] <dioz> looks decent for what i wanna do
[16:36:54] <dioz> chucke on youtube says it isn't bad
[16:37:06] <dioz> https://www.youtube.com/user/ChuckE2009/videos
[16:37:44] <bpuk> I went with a Thermal Arc. it's not a miller, but I like it
[16:39:34] <dioz> you use a gas lense?
[16:39:52] <bpuk> haven't really needed one - I'm told they're pretty awesome
[16:39:58] <bpuk> one day I'll get around to trying it
[16:50:17] <bpuk> next thing to try is a wire feeder for the tig, I've got a job coming up that requires pretty much perfect welds around pipe sections
[16:50:45] <bpuk> and an A axis plus a wire-feed, controlled by lcnc, seems like the easy way to automate
[16:51:20] <dioz> new place i applied says they have a xyz plazma table
[16:51:24] <dioz> amongst other tools
[16:51:31] <dioz> i was like "sweet i wanna make one of those"
[16:51:36] <dioz> and you know what they say about plasma tables
[16:51:39] <dioz> if you have one you can make more
[16:52:17] <BeachBumPete> I need to make one I want it to be a dual purpose CNC router/plasma table tho even tho I know the issues with that. ;)
[16:55:18] <bpuk> have to admit, I'd love a plasma table
[16:55:30] <bpuk> but it's about 10 lines down my tool want list
[16:56:33] * JT-Shop hugs his plasma table
[16:57:50] <bpuk> almost bought a press brake yesterday
[16:58:08] <bpuk> if I had, the plasma table would have gone up to #1
[16:59:05] <JT-Shop> how big?
[16:59:29] <bpuk> baby one. 1.25m
[16:59:33] <bpuk> 25 ton
[17:00:00] <bpuk> but had three axes on the backstop
[17:00:15] <JT-Shop> nice
[17:00:28] <JT-Shop> I have a manual 30" 50ton press brake
[17:00:36] <JT-Shop> shop made
[17:01:00] <bpuk> pictures on your website?
[17:01:20] <JT-Shop> http://gnipsel.com/images/press-brake/
[17:01:44] <bpuk> I don't see the point in getting one (if I'm buying) that isn't CNC. I do design and prototypes, so pretty much everything is a one-off
[17:02:25] <dioz> you have a messy shop JT-Shop?
[17:02:29] <bpuk> ah-ha - addon to a hydraulic press?
[17:03:24] <bpuk> how did you get on with hardening the dies?
[17:03:37] <JT-Shop> the shop is getting better now I have the new shop
[17:03:46] <JT-Shop> I bought the die and punch
[17:04:42] <bpuk> the die and punches were what stopped me buying the one at the weekend
[17:05:04] <JT-Shop> not standard dies and punches?
[17:05:11] <bpuk> I'm not sure I want the stress of making fingers for every bend I need
[17:05:23] <sync> after a while you have enough :P
[17:05:26] <bpuk> a lot of tiny width bends - not full sheet
[17:06:08] <bpuk> and I figured the heat treatment oven was higher on the list than the press brake ;)
[17:06:23] <sync> those magnetic ones seem to be nice
[17:06:23] <bpuk> I could grind the fingers after hardening - so better get the oven done
[17:31:02] <MacGalempsy> guys the servo amp says it has a 3khz bandwidth. any recommendations on the linuxcnc thread period?
[17:34:33] <JT-Shop> the thread period depends on your latency
[17:37:12] <MacGalempsy> i noticed in the forums and the manual that decreasing the period helped tuning. so im curious if there is an ideal speed for the drive bandwidth
[17:37:50] <andypugh> MacGalempsy: I can imagine that 3kHz might be advantageous.
[17:37:54] <JT-Shop> never seen that before, PID and FF is the tuning
[17:38:10] <JT-Shop> but Andy would know better
[17:38:54] <andypugh> PCW has said that 4kHz is better than 1kHz for torque-mode drives
[17:40:10] <JT-Shop> I do recall now that torque mode needs a faster period
[17:41:00] <JT-Shop> lovely my windoze pc just locked up... I'm going inside
[18:46:37] <BeachBumPete> Well I searched and searched for the brand new power supply I ordered for my CNC lathe retrofit so I can put it in my VMC to replace the failing one. Only problem is I could not find it anywhere...
[18:47:10] <BeachBumPete> then I looked at my online purchase history on ebay and with newegg where I order all my PC stuff from and it APPEARS I never ordered one LOL
[18:47:45] <tiwake> fail
[18:48:13] <BeachBumPete> I know right!!
[18:48:34] <BeachBumPete> Well the good news is that I ordered a brand new one the other day when I realized I was gonna need one
[18:48:43] <BeachBumPete> should be here by wednesday or so apparenlty
[18:48:53] <tiwake> linky
[18:48:58] <tiwake> or it didnt happen
[18:49:08] <BeachBumPete> but apparently I will need to be ordering ANOTHER one now hehe
[18:49:22] <BeachBumPete> you mean I gotta PROVE I ordered one really?
[18:49:41] <tiwake> no, not until you claim to have received it
[18:54:43] <BeachBumPete> well its on its way..
[18:55:04] <BeachBumPete> won't get here fast enough I JUST got the damn machine powered up and can't use it right now LOL
[19:04:04] <Tom_L> irc rules state that if you mention it here you gotta prove it or it never happened!
[19:04:22] <BeachBumPete> heh like hell
[19:04:26] <Tom_L> hehe
[19:05:29] <Tom_L> psu for what the pc?
[19:08:17] <BeachBumPete> yeah it had been kinda flaky even in Tennessee the last month or two before I moved it
[19:08:56] <BeachBumPete> you would turn the machine on via the main contactor out back and sometimes the PC would not come on, the display would come on and show no signal..
[19:08:57] <Tom_L> i like those pico psu's
[19:09:20] <BeachBumPete> then I shut it back off and back on and it would start right up most of the time...
[19:09:43] <BeachBumPete> the other day once I finally got power to the machine it fired right up and I ran thru a long warmup routine
[19:09:58] <BeachBumPete> then I turned it back off to investigate why the MPG wheel was not working
[19:10:25] <BeachBumPete> I had replaced the shielded cable going to the 7i77 with a new one and I thought I made some mistake
[19:10:58] <BeachBumPete> but actually the MPG wheel gets it power from the PC supply
[19:11:05] <BeachBumPete> so it may also have been flaky
[19:11:21] <Tom_L> i run all my 5v off a smps
[19:11:35] <BeachBumPete> the one I got is just a typical PC supply
[19:11:40] <BeachBumPete> smps?
[19:11:47] <Tom_L> switch mode power supply
[19:11:57] <Tom_L> a buck or so from china
[19:13:47] <BeachBumPete> I am not averse to getting something like that. I bought one just to run my lamp inside the machine...
[19:14:30] <Tom_L> http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-DC-DC-12V-24V-To-5V-Step-Down-Module-Buck-Converter-97-5-3A-Adjustable-/381856861393?hash=item58e8714cd1:g:cIIAAOSwdIFXxqC2
[19:15:23] <Tom_L> http://www.ebay.com/itm/LM2596-DC-DC-Buck-Converter-Module-Power-Supply-Output-Fixed-5V-/182356547810?hash=item2a754c18e2:g:1kIAAOSw4GVYLOxG
[19:15:28] <Tom_L> that's closer to what i got
[19:15:36] <Tom_L> LM2596
[19:15:46] <Tom_L> some have displays
[19:15:47] <BeachBumPete> yeah I got a few like that for my CNC lathe setup
[19:15:51] <BeachBumPete> have not used them just yet
[19:17:17] <Tom_L> i have an adjustable one i set for 10v for my spindle control
[19:17:25] <BeachBumPete> actually I could mount one of those in the back near the 12v DC power supply and run the output up front to the MPG alongside the signal wires in the shielded cables
[19:17:55] <Tom_L> i used some double back automotive tape
[19:18:04] <Tom_L> won't let go for sure
[19:18:21] <BeachBumPete> surely they make a din rail mount for them
[19:18:57] <Tom_L> my enclosure is gettin kinda crouded
[19:19:12] <BeachBumPete> hehe that is NOT a problem in mine ;)
[19:19:25] <Tom_L> it's huge for a sherline
[19:19:26] <BeachBumPete> I can stand inside the thing even with all the new stuff in it easily
[19:19:47] <Tom_L> cut it down to size and give yourself some more shop space
[19:19:54] <BeachBumPete> I could probably fit everything in a box a quarter the size easily
[19:20:20] <BeachBumPete> well its out back there so not really gonna be freeing up much space LOL
[19:22:49] <BeachBumPete> I need to get the CNC lathe turned around sideways so I can access the electronics cabinet and start working on that thing..
[19:23:19] <BeachBumPete> I really need to figure out a method of adding some castors to it so I can move it by myself.
[19:23:23] <Tom_L> between you and zee, who's gonna be first?
[19:23:41] <BeachBumPete> I am NOT one for speed in this stuff LOL
[19:23:57] <BeachBumPete> I am just happy it is finally going to be getting done
[19:39:39] <BeachBumPete> http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-38V-to-1-25-36V-5A-DC-Adjustable-step-down-Power-module-with-LED-voltmeter-/231634422528?hash=item35ee7ccb00:g:FEkAAOSw3ydVtfIQ
[19:39:49] <BeachBumPete> I got a couple like this one here..
[19:43:58] <BeachBumPete> DOH I just remembered WHY I did not order a PC power supply... I went with one of those solid state ones LOL
[20:05:26] <Duc_mobile> so you found the power supply
[20:23:17] <BeachBumPete> Duc_mobile Well yes and no LOL
[20:23:30] <Duc_mobile> so a no?
[20:23:33] <BeachBumPete> like I said I had forgotten that I ordered a DC-DC power supply for the PC
[20:24:03] <BeachBumPete> on the CNC lathe I ordered a larger 24VDC Din rail mountable power supply and several of those DC buck boards
[20:24:37] <BeachBumPete> so I can both monitor DC PPS output as well as adjust output to say the PC or the MPG wheel etc to be exactly what is necessary
[20:25:08] <BeachBumPete> So tonight I realized that because I did that I never actually ordered a traditional PC power supply and had been looking for one assuming I did LOL
[20:25:10] <Duc_mobile> so you have everything you need now
[20:25:26] <BeachBumPete> I just ordered another DC buck board for the VMC too
[20:25:58] <BeachBumPete> So once the new traditional power supply I ordered for the VMC gets here instead of tapping the 5v output from the PC for the MPG wheel
[20:26:08] <BeachBumPete> I will use the buck board in back in the electronics cabinet
[20:26:37] <BeachBumPete> tap the 12V main power supply back there into the buck and adjust the output to 5vdc and run it up to the MPG wheel instead
[20:27:02] <Duc_mobile> I think I feed my MPG 12volts instead of 5v with no issues
[20:27:03] <BeachBumPete> should be cool and an added bonus is that I can monitor the DC12v main power supply output with the readout.
[20:27:12] <BeachBumPete> hmm
[20:27:29] <BeachBumPete> I would have to check the input to the 7i77 to ensure that would work okay
[20:27:40] <BeachBumPete> I believe I was using 5v
[20:27:49] <Duc_mobile> I have it feed to a 7i84 but PCW could answer
[20:27:54] <BeachBumPete> its been so long since I did it I honestly do not remember
[20:28:34] <BeachBumPete> if the mesanet board will accept it I have no problem doing that and as I understand it the higher voltage is less susceptible to noise..
[20:28:57] <BeachBumPete> altho to be honest aside from the PC power supply failing the other day I never had any issues with the MPG wheel on the VMC
[20:29:31] <Duc_mobile> I need to get off my ass to buy a oscilloscope
[20:29:49] <BeachBumPete> you should get one of those digital ones...
[20:30:44] <Duc_mobile> do they would pretty well?
[20:31:14] <BeachBumPete> I honestly don't have one but they are popular here..
[20:32:18] <CaptHindsight> or used analog from ebay, HP or Tek
[20:33:22] <Wolf_> http://www.tequipment.net/Rigol/DS1054Z/Digital-Oscilloscopes/
[20:34:33] <Wolf_> is the popular one, hackable to 100mhz, 6% off for EEVblog members (via coupon code)
[20:35:18] <Duc_mobile> ah I have to wait awhile due to new house
[20:35:52] <CaptHindsight> the scopes are pretty small :)
[20:36:00] <kyle____> if you find a really cheap scope lemme know
[20:36:08] <kyle____> because i'm too lazy to find my own obviously
[20:36:22] <Wolf_> mine is next to my foot sitting on the floor right now lol
[20:36:33] <kyle____> how cheap? ;D
[20:37:39] <Wolf_> https://www.dropbox.com/s/kttii0lwlrsud73/Untitled%20copy.png?dl=0 that cheap
[20:38:00] <kyle____> your cheapskate game is weak
[20:38:08] <Duc_mobile> how many people actually need 100MHZ scope
[20:38:41] <Wolf_> https://www.dropbox.com/s/dfa25rmjj4wlvo5/Photo%20Apr%2008%2C%2011%2057%2000%20PM.jpg?dl=0
[20:39:16] <kyle____> see, it actually does things
[20:39:20] <kyle____> you didn't go cheap enough clearly
[20:39:21] <BeachBumPete> OOh that looks like a nice one
[20:39:24] <Wolf_> not many probably, but its a free hack to unlock it (and everything else) on the DS1054
[20:40:19] <BeachBumPete> Duh that is one of the digital ones hehehe
[20:42:42] <Wolf_> what does it do ? http://i.imgur.com/u1FlYF0.jpg
[20:43:21] <Wolf_> after the unlock hack :D
[20:44:24] <BeachBumPete> that looks sweet man. I might have to have one of those even tho its been years since I used one LOL
[20:47:05] <Wolf_> there is speculation that the “hack” is more like a feature for the DS1054 to keep the hobby market buying it
[20:47:22] <BeachBumPete> who cares if it works eh
[20:47:38] <kyle____> that'd be some really clever marketing then
[20:47:51] <BeachBumPete> that sure looks nicer than the ones I was used to using in the Coast Guard...
[20:47:51] <kyle____> word of mouth advertising is the best
[20:48:34] <Wolf_> yup, for the most part hobby guys will buy it because you can open up features even if they don’t need it (the whole scope that is lol)
[20:49:07] <Wolf_> commercial customers just buy the unit they need in the first place lol
[20:49:21] <Duc_mobile> and spend alot of money doing it
[20:49:23] <Wolf_> kinda like the flir E4 hack
[20:49:32] <malcom2073> Ugh that pissed me off
[20:49:39] <malcom2073> buddy of mine for an e4 before the hack was fixed, I missed it
[20:49:42] <BeachBumPete> I would be happier if it was $200
[20:49:59] <Wolf_> malcom2073: :P thats on the floor next to my other foot
[20:50:38] <BeachBumPete> whats the keyboard for?
[20:50:38] <Wolf_> http://i.imgur.com/S3ap9WE.jpg
[20:50:53] <Wolf_> keyboard is for my mac :P
[20:51:05] <malcom2073> heh
[20:52:30] <Wolf_> you can hook to the scope via lan/usb but its not so useful IMO
[20:52:41] <CaptHindsight> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tektronix-TDS460-350MHz-4-Channel-Digital-Oscilloscope-Scope-tested-good-/282260522126 much nicer scope
[20:53:21] <BeachBumPete> but but but its dented...
[20:53:31] <CaptHindsight> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tektronix-TDS-360-2-Ch-200-MHz-1-GS-s-Digital-Oscilloscope-100-Pro-Tested/291936531596
[20:53:52] <Wolf_> too heavy :P
[20:54:13] <CaptHindsight> Wolf_: is this for bicycle mounting?
[20:54:45] <Wolf_> maybe… also so damn big
[20:56:02] <Wolf_> I’ll stick with the 6” deep digital thing I have
[20:58:06] <Duc_mobile> those things used to be freaking heavy as hell
[20:58:23] <Wolf_> https://www.dropbox.com/s/mypri0v3yfpze61/DS1Z_QuickPrint2.png?dl=0 plus its easier to post screenshots with mine ;P
[20:58:53] <CaptHindsight> yellow
[21:00:04] <CaptHindsight> I snap a shot with a Polaroid. Then make contact prints
[21:00:12] <Wolf_> lol
[21:00:25] <BeachBumPete> WOW man... where I used to live or not far from there they are battling some serious fires. The Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburgh is now on fire apparently..
[21:00:25] <CaptHindsight> kids today shheeeesh
[21:00:47] <CaptHindsight> riots?
[21:01:02] <BeachBumPete> https://www.facebook.com/apalmeno/videos/1309411545770967/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED
[21:01:31] <BeachBumPete> no apparently the fires have been intentionally set around NC and Tennessee and the whole area is burning for days now
[21:02:20] <CaptHindsight> any reason why they were set?
[21:02:38] <BeachBumPete> no idea...
[21:03:25] <BeachBumPete> all I know is my favorite restaurant and a city landmark the Pancake Pantry is not all that far from there. I will be very sad if that burns down..
[21:04:23] <CaptHindsight> Fallen trees have sparked multiple fires in Gatlinburg from downed power lines, authorities said.
[21:05:11] <BeachBumPete> well where I used to live in Maryville there has been huge fires for days now not a couple miles from where my old house sat
[21:06:55] <BeachBumPete> http://i.imgur.com/HFVIf6Q.jpg This is "Chimney Tops" In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is maybe ten miles from my old house
[21:07:39] <CaptHindsight> you moved just in time
[21:08:30] <CaptHindsight> well they are the Smokey mountains :)
[21:09:15] <BeachBumPete> http://wate.com/2016/11/18/live-blog-wildfires-east-tennessee-walland-neddy-mountain-tellico-plains/ this is several days old but this is Walland. I used to live there in a cabin...
[21:10:26] <CaptHindsight> near Dollywood
[21:11:04] <Wolf_> BeachBumPete: I forgot about one of the best features, help button = I forget what this button does so tell me http://i.imgur.com/uNRDm0O.jpg
[21:11:08] <BeachBumPete> http://i.imgur.com/d8BsCwV.jpg I used to drive down this road almost daily...
[21:11:27] <BeachBumPete> well Dollywood is actually in Pidgeon Forge
[21:11:39] <BeachBumPete> its a little bit east of Gatlinburgh
[21:12:00] <BeachBumPete> but not all that far away if that fire gets out of hand.
[21:12:18] <BeachBumPete> The Hotel actually sits a bit up the mountain from downtown Gatlinburgh
[21:12:22] <CaptHindsight> not much rain this year?
[21:12:41] <BeachBumPete> you can be sure the firefighters will make a stand to protect Gatlinburgh if they can at all...
[21:13:15] <BeachBumPete> well the people up there are praying for rain to help kill the flames of course. Apparently it is raining in Knoxville
[21:13:27] <BeachBumPete> supposed to head east
[21:16:51] <CaptHindsight> might be gods punishment :)
[21:17:19] <BeachBumPete> apparently there is Fire on what is called the SPUR.
[21:17:36] <BeachBumPete> It is a wooded area on the parkway between Gatlinburgh and Pigeon Forge
[21:18:26] <BeachBumPete> if the fire is that far now it could actually affect dollywood because the park is kind of out away from the parkway in the woods
[21:19:24] <BeachBumPete> its quite a ways away tho it is unclear where on the spur the fire actually is
[21:19:38] <BeachBumPete> https://www.google.com/maps/place/Pigeon+Forge,+TN/@35.7512145,-83.5508987,12524m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x885bff0da7e6bdcb:0x1770c0708e28804e!8m2!3d35.7884241!4d-83.5543329
[21:19:43] <Duc_mobile> Wolf_: I may need to buy a Rigol now
[21:19:54] <Wolf_> lol
[21:21:23] <CaptHindsight> https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/thumbnails/image/20161109-ncarolina-firesa.jpg
[21:22:25] <BeachBumPete> WOW
[21:22:33] <BeachBumPete> its all over the area
[21:22:47] <Duc_mobile> Alabama is finally getting rain after 62 days
[21:22:56] <CaptHindsight> think that was 6 days ago
[21:23:06] <BeachBumPete> Tellico is burning too
[21:23:18] <BeachBumPete> thats a shame I used to go four wheeling down there it is really beautiful there
[21:23:31] <BeachBumPete> Citico creek and the camping parks
[21:23:40] <BeachBumPete> there are some beautiful waterfalls there too
[21:25:26] <CaptHindsight> 90% chance of rain there tonight
[21:26:42] <BeachBumPete> http://i.imgur.com/N1XxhIA.jpg
[21:26:58] <BeachBumPete> http://i.imgur.com/NURjVKr.jpg
[21:27:12] <BeachBumPete> http://i.imgur.com/Frznevh.jpg
[21:27:53] <BeachBumPete> My wife and I were married in a chapel on that smoky burning street down the road a bit
[21:29:18] <BeachBumPete> such a shame that is a really fun town
[21:29:34] <BeachBumPete> apparently 11 structures are on fire in gatlinburgh tonight
[21:40:02] <BeachBumPete> Pigeon Forge residents and guests located in the areas between traffic light 8 and the Spur are under mandatory evacuation. Three county school buses are available for emergency transport and are being dispatched as needed to transport those who need to evacuate. The following locations are open and ready to receive those who need shelter:
[21:42:36] <BeachBumPete> That was from the Pigeon Forge Fire Department
[21:44:13] <kyle__1> all is lost, i'll never see my ir led and transistor pair ever again
