[02:33:20] <Deejay> moin
[03:31:20] <TheBall> On insert boxes, what does the P/M/N/S surface speed notations mean?
[03:38:39] <Sync> TheBall: the different materials
[03:41:02] <TheBall> Any idea what the materials these letters refer to?
[03:41:52] <Sync> yes, they are standardized
[03:42:18] <Sync> http://www.widia.com/content/dam/kennametal/widia/common/resources/downloads/literature/WIDIA%20Catalogs/WIDIA%20Advances%202012%20Catalog/WIDIA%20Advances%202012%20Catalog%20-%20INCH%20-%20Sections%20to%20download/A-10-02470_Advances2012_Materials_minch.pdf
[03:44:21] <TheBall> Ah thank you!
[04:52:12] <XXCoder> boo
[05:03:40] <Sync> oob
[05:03:52] <XXCoder> is good
[05:18:22] <jthornton> morning
[05:18:42] <XXCoder> I love word bed. the word looks like a bed.
[05:22:17] <root-x> Tatami is good fot the back
[05:34:58] <XXCoder> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uxd2hMHHfM
[05:35:06] <XXCoder> elio factory.
[05:35:16] <XXCoder> it does look more complete now. last one it was still in progress
[05:37:19] <XXCoder> p4 visits factory 2 years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IF9QLnXeSQ
[05:53:14] <jthornton> still looks pretty empty for a factory
[05:53:29] <XXCoder> yeah but configuration is ready for elio
[05:53:41] <XXCoder> while previously it was still designed for suv
[05:53:57] <jthornton> I like the shot of a bunch of worn out air tools
[05:54:28] <jthornton> that does take time
[05:54:30] <XXCoder> I still wonder if they managed to sell off million tons press
[05:54:48] <XXCoder> yes thats MILLION tons press. lol
[05:56:01] <jthornton> that's a big one for sure
[05:56:15] <XXCoder> so big special floor has to be built around and under it
[05:56:22] <XXCoder> otherwise its going to break stuff
[05:56:34] <XXCoder> even when its "self contained"
[05:59:32] <XXCoder> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wArZ3Iqy4Y nice
[05:59:40] <XXCoder> guys doing manual rooling heh
[05:59:41] <XXCoder> rooling
[05:59:45] <XXCoder> rolling*
[06:00:21] <jthornton> ah myfordboy I like his videos
[06:02:33] <XXCoder> ohhh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CLRTa_ocmo
[06:09:20] <XXCoder> hmm quality isnt best
[06:09:34] <XXCoder> I wonder if just pure epoxy would work lol
[06:30:22] <XXCoder> LOL jthornton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tS3nQEAzr0
[06:45:23] <Tom_itx> morning
[06:46:17] <SpeedEvil> afternoon
[06:49:07] <jthornton> morning
[12:25:56] <FinboySlick> It's too quiet today, have a horrible joke: http://i.imgur.com/886eXdb.jpg
[12:27:40] <archivist> groannnnn
[12:37:08] <renesis> pretty awesome joke
[13:04:07] <_methods> pretty corny
[13:44:28] <JT-Shop> dang I have 2 pcs 34.25" long and one 30.25" long to machine and I only have 18" of X travel
[13:46:26] <FloppyDisk> I thought the bridgeport had more travel than that?
[13:48:33] <JT-Shop> this is my BP VMC
[13:54:30] <JT-Shop> the BP series 1 does have 24" X almost
[13:58:49] <_methods> get out the machine stretcher
[14:03:09] * JT-Shop takes a monkey pickle break
[14:05:39] <_methods> puppy baby monkey?
[14:06:08] <_methods> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql7uY36-LwA
[14:30:46] <Tom_itx> JT-Shop, guess you'll have to hang it out the side
[14:31:21] <JT-Shop> I have plenty of room in the VMC so it will be double setup for each part
[14:31:38] <Tom_itx> or
[14:32:07] <Tom_itx> clamp it in 2 vises and run the first half as G54 and the 2nd half index of the 2nd vise as G55
[14:32:39] <JT-Shop> I only have 18" of X travel... how would that work?
[14:32:50] <Tom_itx> not well :D
[14:33:13] <Tom_itx> slide the part a known distance in the 2 for P2
[14:33:18] <JT-Shop> I have two vises in the VMC I just have to machine 1/2 and move the part
[14:33:34] <skunkworks> mount a second spindle ;)
[14:33:35] <JT-Shop> I'll put a registration hole in the center
[14:33:39] <Tom_itx> we did that on long aluminum parts
[14:33:46] <JT-Shop> take to Sams house
[14:34:02] <skunkworks> heh
[14:34:24] <Tom_itx> my file knows no bounds
[14:36:16] <Tom_itx> ^^ that was with 54" X too. you had to be careful walking around the machine with all that sticking out the side
[14:43:28] <JT-Shop> knee buster?
[14:46:13] <_methods> https://www.dropbox.com/s/qjsaed4sadlht5v/2012-08-08%2015.40.39.jpg?dl=0
[14:46:20] <_methods> machine ripped apart to fit plate lol
[14:47:13] <_methods> https://www.dropbox.com/s/v2ts312dki70y3u/2012-08-08%2015.41.15.jpg?dl=0
[14:47:27] <JT-Shop> this is what I'm building http://gnipsel.com/images/press-brake/Press%20Brake.JPG
[14:47:37] <_methods> new press brake
[14:47:55] <JT-Shop> yep
[14:48:04] <_methods> nice
[14:48:24] <_methods> https://www.dropbox.com/s/xpbhg7z8cx4hv39/2012-08-08%2015.40.55.jpg?dl=0
[14:48:27] <_methods> way off the table lol
[14:48:27] <JT-Shop> going to cost about $750
[14:49:22] <_methods> what you using to power it?
[14:51:34] <_methods> multiple rams?
[15:03:21] <enleth> Heidenhain interpolators arrived
[15:03:58] <enleth> time for some more reverse engineering
[15:07:50] <Sync> oh, there way a guy selling dozens of them last weekend
[15:23:12] <enleth> I got 3 for $30 a piece a few weeks ago, which seemed to be a very good price
[15:23:23] <enleth> but they are plentiful all the time if you're willing to spend a bit more
[15:24:05] <enleth> what's nice, one of them is a relatively recent SMD version which probably uses opamps that are still being made
[15:26:10] <enleth> the opamps in the TNC's builtin interpolators and the unit Duc photographed for me are long out of production, while fitting some more or less random parts that seemed to match on paper produced noisy or unstable results
[15:38:37] <msgctl> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzbXJN2_LVo
[15:38:45] <msgctl> Greetings from Warsaw Hackerspace!
[15:41:17] <FinboySlick> Hmm, is it loading the kernel from the tape drive? ;)
[15:42:48] <enleth> unfortunately no, but the music is played by the training tape deck
[15:43:51] <enleth> and the built-in CRT works out of the box with the raspberry pi's composite output
[15:44:43] <FinboySlick> Makes one wonder if you could cram enough data on a cassette to fit a rPi kernel on.
[15:45:11] <enleth> maybe not linux, but *a* kernel should fit
[15:45:22] <enleth> freertos or something
[15:49:36] <enleth> anyway, rpi is probably one of the cheapest composite screen controllers available out there, so we plan to use that
[15:49:47] <enleth> just for the screen, nothing else
[16:24:00] <varesa> mesa electronics says that due to order backlog shipping times for even in-stock items can be 4-6 weeks
[16:24:23] <varesa> Are there any resellers where I could get one faster or some alternatives?
[16:26:48] <varesa> eusurplus.com seems to have some
[16:35:02] <Deejay> gn8
[16:43:21] <varesa> also did some testing on the mill. Due to not yet having a PC or a stepgen card for that, equipment used was a arbitrary wavegenm, oscilloscope and laboratory power supply :)
[16:43:57] <JT-Shop> varesa: what are you looking for?
[16:44:12] <JT-Shop> I'm a stocking distributer of Mesa products
[16:44:58] <JT-Shop> http://mesaus.com/
[16:45:43] <varesa> possibly 6i25 + 7i76
[16:46:06] <varesa> shipped to Europe
[16:46:17] <JT-Shop> in stock and ship next day
[16:46:24] <JT-Shop> and I ship world wide
[16:46:46] <JT-Shop> http://mesaus.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69&product_id=86
[16:46:49] <varesa> cool, I'll send a link to your shop to the machine owner who is going to buy the parts
[16:47:02] <JT-Shop> thanks
[16:47:27] <JT-Shop> just wondering what country are you in?
[16:47:34] <varesa> finland
[16:47:42] <JT-Shop> cool
[16:49:37] <JT-Shop> took a ferry from Denmark to Sweden once but it was sunday and was closed, close as I've ever been to Finland
[17:50:38] <JT-Shop> oh the new V blade mandolin is here can you say sweet potato fries
[17:53:18] <Tom_itx> more trenching today?
[18:03:43] <JT-Shop> got one more drain tile in and only have to connect one more and I'm back to digging
[18:03:58] <JT-Shop> don't have much left to get to grade
[18:04:15] <JT-Shop> rains over the 4th really wiped out a lot of my backfill
[18:04:26] <Tom_itx> i bet
[18:04:39] <Tom_itx> it rained pretty good here this morning
[18:04:52] <Tom_itx> 80mph straightline winds for a bit
[18:04:59] <JT-Shop> the one drain I had was plugged up from all the excavation so the water had to go somewhere
[18:08:01] <JT-Shop> dang, that is some bad wind
[18:08:25] <Tom_itx> http://kake.images.worldnow.com/images/10975652_G.jpg
[18:08:26] <JT-Shop> worst part I was in Hot Springs and could not do anything about it
[18:08:47] <JT-Shop> that your yard?
[18:08:50] <Tom_itx> no
[18:09:11] <Tom_itx> the worst of the wind was just west of me, i didn't get any damage
[18:10:51] <JT-Shop> good thing
[18:12:00] <Tom_itx> couple years back the wind bent some of those large interstate signs over like twigs
[18:12:35] <Tom_itx> 50yds either side was fine
[18:12:42] <JT-Shop> dang, I guess it is true that you guys use logging chain for a wind sock
[18:13:05] <Tom_itx> chicago ain't got nothin on us :)
[18:13:13] <JT-Shop> lol
[18:14:36] <JT-Shop> if I can dodge the rain for a few days I'll be done with the big dig
[18:15:28] <Tom_itx> better get the slab in before it all washes out again
[18:15:51] <JT-Shop> slab is safe the part that washed out is the new backfill
[18:15:57] <JT-Shop> slab is on virgin ground
[18:16:19] <Tom_itx> mudslide down the hill?
[18:16:47] <JT-Shop> cut a trench in it at 3 places
[18:17:08] <JT-Shop> all fixed and new drain tiles, I should be sorta safe
[18:18:44] <JT-Shop> time to skin some sweet spuds
[18:19:19] <Tom_itx> using that fabric covered black corrugated tubing?
[19:07:50] <KreAture_> bad news
[19:08:56] <KreAture_> ASRock as now confirmed to me that the BeeBox does not support 50mm mini-PCIe cards in the sATA/mini-PCIe slot. It is infact a mSATA slot only and is mislabelled
[19:09:17] <KreAture_> I think that is their way of saying: kocked up the bios, avoiding to fix it by blaming the sticker guy
[19:09:50] <KreAture_> so in essence, only the 25mm slot is capable of mini-PCIe and thus to connect the paralell port I need a extender or a converter
[19:09:53] <KreAture_> doubledamn
[19:09:55] <KreAture_> :p
[19:10:28] <KreAture_> The good news is though that it is still possible, it just gets more fiddly and costly
[19:33:03] <KreAture_> But, I did find this that would allow the use of a PCIe X1 card or 3: http://www.ebay.com/itm/262456216578
[19:33:17] <KreAture_> Apparantly works on mini pcie :)
[20:10:44] <TurBoss> hi
[20:10:49] <Frank_12> hi
[20:12:03] <Frank_12> Sigh... was building the electric enclosure, and trying to seal gaps, i used silicone caulk... BAD CHOICE. rusted the metal, now i dont even know how to clean that ~#!@
[20:12:21] <TurBoss> :\
[20:42:31] <BeachBumPete> evening folks ;)
[20:44:19] <SpeedEvil> e
[20:44:48] <BeachBumPete> ee
[20:53:48] <BeachBumPete> so whats going on in linuxCNC land today? Anyone making anything interesting?
[20:55:55] <TurBoss> blendercam is awesome :D
[20:56:17] <TurBoss> gimp 2.9 + blendercam ++
[20:56:21] <tiwake> BeachBumPete: gearing up to move to texas
[20:58:38] <BeachBumPete> oh yeah cool man where in TX?
[20:58:50] <tiwake> lubbock
[20:59:03] <BeachBumPete> nice I wish you safe travels and success there my friend.
[20:59:29] <BeachBumPete> I just found out today that our ACTUAL closing date on our new home is Tuesday afternoon FINALLY!!
[21:14:40] <Tom_itx> BeachBumPete, you get hurricanes?
[21:14:51] <Tom_itx> we had 80+mph winds here this AM :)
[21:15:40] <BeachBumPete> oh yeah? No it was quite beautiful here today albeit still kinda hot
[21:16:35] <Tom_itx> http://www.kansas.com/news/local/article89561427.html
[21:17:24] <BeachBumPete> Damn that is some nasty looking storm....
[21:17:32] <BeachBumPete> you guys okay over there?
[21:17:38] <Tom_itx> yeah
[21:17:49] <Tom_itx> most of that was just W of me
[21:18:09] <tiwake> Tom_itx: over here we typically get at least one or two storms that get up to about 110mph gusts
[21:18:30] <BeachBumPete> just nutz
[21:18:49] <Tom_itx> couple years ago the wind bent some of those large interstate signs over like twigs
[21:19:25] <BeachBumPete> wow
[21:19:26] <Tom_itx> tiwake, where is here?
[21:19:40] <tiwake> tillamook oregon
[21:20:51] <tiwake> I'm not in tillamook proper, but tillamook county closer to the sea will get that
[21:21:33] <BeachBumPete> man I can't wait to start moving my schtuff into our new house especially my CNC's :D
[21:23:15] <Tom_itx> i bet
[21:25:22] <BeachBumPete> we were at the house again today and spoke to basically ALL of the neighbors. Every one of them seemed to be very nice which was great. They have been wondering why the for sale sign has been down for so long but nobody has moved in yet LOL
[21:26:22] <Tom_itx> better get there before someone else decides to move in uninvited
[21:26:29] <BeachBumPete> haha
[21:26:42] <Tom_itx> squatters
[21:27:12] <BeachBumPete> I can't wait to sleep in MY bed again my parents condo is very nice but it is NOT my stuff
[21:28:25] <BeachBumPete> Tom_itx Do you get tornadoes in your area ever?
[21:28:36] <Tom_itx> all the time
[21:28:49] <Tom_itx> not directly on me but around here alot
[21:28:54] <BeachBumPete> jeez man I hate hurricanes but honestly tornadoes scare the shit out of me
[21:29:04] <Tom_itx> 2 of the most noteable were in this area
[21:29:12] <BeachBumPete> we once had a spate of them in south tennessee and north georgia
[21:29:28] <Tom_itx> 1 was 1.7mi wide the other was on the ground ~45 min
[21:29:36] <BeachBumPete> it demolished many homes there and our church group went down there to assist in the cleanup
[21:29:53] <Tom_itx> the 1.7 wide one destroyed a town
[21:30:55] <Tom_itx> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_2007_tornado_outbreak
[21:31:13] <BeachBumPete> honestly I think the scary part about them mostly is that you just have NO idea when they are coming. that and of course their devastating power. I always wondered if we were ever going to get on at our house in Tennessee but I think we were too close to the mountains so it kinda shielded us a bit.
[21:32:38] <BeachBumPete> We do occasionally get them here in Florida too and often they are waterspouts
[21:33:03] <Tom_itx> https://www.google.com/search?q=andover+tornado&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwil5PfosPTNAhXQdSYKHd3hCCAQsAQIOw&biw=1110&bih=682
[21:33:09] <Tom_itx> general pics of the other one
[21:33:15] <Tom_itx> and it's path
[21:33:28] <BeachBumPete> monster
[21:33:49] <Tom_itx> http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yS2QUKXXFRc/UXrkhose0JI/AAAAAAAAcnM/xutg_ZOtEJ4/s1600/Screen+Shot+2013-04-26+at+3.32.47+PM.png
[21:35:19] <Tom_itx> you get fair warning about hurricanes
[21:35:35] <BeachBumPete> yeah usually a few days at least
[21:35:57] <BeachBumPete> been thru many of them growing up in South florida
[21:36:30] <Tom_itx> i suspect the bulk of damage from them is flooding
[21:36:39] <BeachBumPete> typically yes
[21:37:01] <BeachBumPete> unless you are very close to the beach a lot of roof damage as well
[21:38:07] <Tom_itx> you get unusual things like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/3f/f3/a3/3ff3a37f66590943d7acea4dd22035e2.jpg
[21:38:09] <BeachBumPete> hopefully we won't have any major ones in our area
[21:38:10] <Tom_itx> and this:
[21:38:14] <Tom_itx> https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/24/Log_embedded_in_white_box.jpg
[21:39:13] <BeachBumPete> wow.... that second one actually looks like the branch grew thru the other branch over time but I get your point
[21:40:47] <Tom_itx> that was a fencepost
[21:41:18] <BeachBumPete> jeez
[21:41:34] <Tom_itx> and yes, the tree eventually just grew around it
[21:41:56] <BeachBumPete> well I gotta get to bed here good luck with that storm man hopefully it will steer clear of your area.
[21:42:05] <Tom_itx> it's all over
[21:42:13] <BeachBumPete> ok great
[21:42:18] <BeachBumPete> Gn8 man
[21:42:19] <Tom_itx> happened this morning then cleared
[21:42:25] <Tom_itx> later
