[00:31:58] <RyanS> Nice to see someone abusing their machine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDymG3uYK8A
[01:40:32] <RyanS> so is it rather trivial if you already have a power drawbar to implement tool tray which traverses the spindle to tool position. To facilitate automatic tool changes, although sacrificing some table space. I saw implemented somewhere just can't remember the details
[01:55:46] <RyanS> Actually, Routers use that method
[02:15:15] <_DJ_> moin
[02:16:13] <RyanS> heh...cool, saw a video clip of an 1800s foot pedal powered lathe
[02:17:00] <RyanS> Horse on a treadmill would have been my preference
[04:22:23] <RyanS> found some really good machining videos on my university library website
[04:27:30] <RyanS> Produced in 2004... introduction music from the 1980 :p
[04:27:36] <RyanS> s
[06:29:17] <jthornton> Happy Turkey Day
[06:29:50] <Jymmm> jthornton: Same to you!!!
[06:30:21] <Jymmm> jthornton: Got the tri-tip marinating nicely =)
[06:30:42] <jthornton> mine is thawing out
[06:30:52] <jthornton> what do you marinate with?
[06:31:14] <Jymmm> worchester, onion powder, salt, pepper
[06:31:36] <Jymmm> sometimes a touch of garlic powder too
[06:31:53] <jthornton> sounds good, I was fixing to say I put garlic powder on mine
[06:32:19] <jthornton> I smoke for 40 minutes with cherry wood the bring the IT up to very rare
[06:33:05] * archivist_herron dreams of beans on cheese on toast
[06:33:10] <Jymmm> Sometimes I am on a garlic craze, so I back off other times =)
[06:33:45] <Jymmm> jthornton: LOTS on onion powder adds a subtle sweetness
[08:03:44] <PetefromTn> Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! LOL
[08:27:00] <IchGuckLive> hi all Thanksgiveners
[08:33:57] <PetefromTn> Hey Ich...
[08:34:31] <IchGuckLive> hi Macys day parade is on the way

[09:19:58] <Tom_itx> yep
[09:20:00] <IchGuckLive> you need a mult2 servo tread
[09:20:06] <Tom_itx> no
[09:20:11] <IchGuckLive> to show it as Axis
[09:20:13] <Tom_itx> scale
[09:20:22] <IchGuckLive> the samew
[09:20:29] <Tom_itx> it's working
[09:20:37] <IchGuckLive> Scale = multiplikation
[09:20:53] <IchGuckLive> scale = 60 !
[09:20:56] <Tom_itx> i had scale loaded already
[09:21:19] <IchGuckLive> so you add it to base or servo tread
[09:22:50] <IchGuckLive> Mr crabs is pading
[09:24:28] <IchGuckLive> sponge bob
[09:27:10] <PetefromTn> My kids used to love Spongebob and now apparently it is UNCOOL.....LOL

[10:26:28] <pcw_home> Tom_itx: any sserial version > 34 is fine
[10:26:30] <pcw_home> (later fixes are mainly for obscure corner condition bugs)
[10:28:05] <IchGuckLive> parades end now past columbus circle
[10:28:24] <IchGuckLive> 2hr 10min
[10:32:16] <PetefromTn> Watchin' it now on stream thanks Ich..

[10:34:18] <IchGuckLive> NBC is nor in europ only cnbc
[10:34:42] <Tom_itx> i meant pete, he's in the US
[10:34:44] <PetefromTn> Sure but like I said the kids are playing the WII and my wife is using our big screen TV to play holiday music on the HIFI speakers.
[10:35:17] <IchGuckLive> on black friday get the wife going shopping
[10:35:22] <PetefromTn> I don't feel like running upstairs to watch it on the other TV's so I will just sit here on the laptop enjoying it while I do some cad drawing.
[10:35:59] <IchGuckLive> Tom_itx: is the advertising stuff also on the Real TV
[10:39:09] <Tom_itx> that's what remotes were made for

[10:42:48] <IchGuckLive> advertise !! im off for now
[10:50:58] <Tom_itx> thanks PCW
[12:06:56] <IchGuckLive> hi all B)
[12:11:27] <IchGuckLive> comet isoh now aproching the sun at max speed
[12:11:48] <IchGuckLive> http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realtime-images.html live shots
[12:28:26] <Tom_itx> i just noticed something... when i home my axis, call up a tool then send the machine to zero , z doesn't go to zero. after i load the program and run it a bit then send the machine to zero, z returnes to the preset zero with the tool offset
[12:29:05] <Tom_itx> i wonder if it's because the mdi didn't call up the H word for the tool
[12:29:27] <Tom_itx> maybe i should mdi Tx M6 Hx instead of just Tx M6
[12:34:03] <Tom_itx> anyway, got all the connectors turned around. guess we'll see if they hold this time
[12:37:33] <IchGuckLive> http://www.ustream.tv/nasahdtv/pop-out
[12:40:29] <jthornton> Tom_itx, you should use Tn M6 G43
[12:41:48] <IchGuckLive> and th H
[12:42:08] <IchGuckLive> for full inf to the interpreter
[13:41:41] <IchGuckLive> By isoh the Xmas comet has been busted by the Sun
[13:42:11] <IchGuckLive> no view till now on all satelites of its move arround
[14:40:41] <Loetmichel> *bah* could someone PLEASE end that running nose and the coughing up the green slime? that would be REALLY great... i think i get old... thats the worst cold i had in a VERY long time :-(
[14:54:20] <hardware> hey guys im having troubles configuring my mesa 7i76 PNG kit , anytime i start pncconf after i picked 5i25 from the list of available pci cards I get an error
[14:56:06] <hardware> maybe someone also had this error or knows what to do ?
[14:56:28] <Jymmm> You haven't said what the error is
[14:58:42] <hardware> oh sorry :) the error message : Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/pncconf", line 4502, in on_basicinfo_next self.mesa_firmware_search(i) File "/usr/bin/pncconf", line 4733, in mesa_firmware_search dbg("temp: %s, converted name: %s. num %d"%( tempfunc,convertedname,instance_num), "firm") UnboundLocalError: local variable 'instance_num' referenced before assignment
[15:05:54] <pcw_home> do you have the 5i25/7i76 xml files installed?
[15:05:56] <pcw_home> http://www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/forum/39-pncconf/21670-5i25-firmware-xml-files-for-pncconf
[15:09:53] <hardware> dear pcw yes i installed them with the 5i25 Update file
[15:10:58] <hardware> i also changed the acces rights of the 5i25 folder and the included files
[15:13:36] <pcw_home> Not sure how you get it but you may also want to make sure you have the latest version of pncconf
[15:15:36] <hardware> isnt the latest pncconf included in the linuxcnc 2.5.3 build ?
[15:18:09] <_DJ_> re
[15:30:07] <pcw_home> Dont know, you might ask on the pncconf section of the forum
[15:43:12] <Jymmm> So vocal... http://v5.tinypic.com/player.swf?file=2d0cpk1
[15:44:17] <Loetmichel> Jymmm: teh Porcupine(?) ist telling its story ;-)
[15:59:56] <NickParker|2> andypugh: I got table mode working.
[16:00:06] <andypugh> Great!
[16:13:01] <Jymmm> Loetmichel: Cute aint it =)
[16:14:18] <Loetmichel> Jymmm: very
[16:14:43] * Loetmichel wants to have a raven or 2
[16:15:01] <Jymmm> ...quote the raven
[16:15:05] <Loetmichel> but that is forbidden in germany (red list)
[16:15:13] <Jymmm> a raven is?
[16:15:28] <Jymmm> Not endangered, are they?
[16:15:42] <Loetmichel> right: no trade, no raising of them unless you are a Zoo
[16:16:18] <Jymmm> None are native to .de ?
[16:16:50] <Jymmm> or you just cant have them as pets?
[16:17:37] <Loetmichel> you cant have them as püets and you will get in trouble sjhootinmg them
[16:17:40] <Loetmichel> shooting
[16:18:25] <Loetmichel> and you cant legally sell them or buy them
[16:19:35] <Loetmichel> they are native here
[16:19:45] <Loetmichel> not everywhre but you can see them occasionally
[16:56:47] <_DJ_> gn8
[16:57:53] <Tom_itx> jthornton, yeah i know.. i was just in a hurry working on the wiring and testing
[17:11:17] <andypugh> Loetmichel: Reminds me of a Facebook comment from a friend: https://www.facebook.com/stevie.storme/posts/771952839497616
[17:16:52] <Tom_itx> will sserial show up as sserial in halcmc show pin?
[17:17:05] <Tom_itx> or as extended io
[17:17:22] <andypugh> Ooh! Look! A bargain! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boxford-cnc-lathe-single-phase-/321260586086
[17:17:25] <Tom_itx> (haven't pluged the card in yet)
[17:17:44] <Tom_itx> you need another lathe
[17:17:56] <andypugh> Tom_itx: It should show the cards and their pins.
[17:19:52] <Tom_itx> when i wire it, i wire the RXA to a TX0 and RXB to /TX0 right? same for the TXA & TXB?
[17:20:16] <andypugh> I don't actually know. I have never wired from scratch.
[17:20:26] <Tom_itx> you haven't?
[17:20:28] <andypugh> I have a 7i44 on my machine.
[17:20:42] <Tom_itx> oh does it have the cat5 connector?
[17:20:46] <andypugh> And the 7i77 came with a serial cable
[17:21:12] <andypugh> 7i44 is 50-pin to 8x RJ45
[17:21:13] <Tom_itx> worst case is it won't work
[17:21:36] <andypugh> I am pretty sure that the 7i76 manual tells you how to wire it.
[17:21:47] <Tom_itx> ok i gotta move some wires around to test it
[17:21:54] <Tom_itx> the 7i84 has the pinout
[17:22:17] <Tom_itx> i would assume ^^ to be the case
[17:23:09] <andypugh> Starting from the top (on the 7i76) the wiring is: Brown + Brown/White, orange-white, orange, green-white, green, Blue + Blue-white.
[17:23:21] <Tom_itx> yep same as the 84 manual
[17:23:27] <andypugh> And that's as PCW wired it :-)
[17:23:49] <Tom_itx> it gives the signals and wire colors
[17:24:03] <Tom_itx> just the 7i47 is labelled differently on the pairs
[17:24:16] <Tom_itx> TX0 /TX0 instead of TXA TXB
[17:24:29] <andypugh> I can't help but feel that an RJ socket would be more convenient, but then it can't easily be used as GPIO, I suppose.
[17:25:08] <Tom_itx> well i'm hooking this into an older card too
[17:25:43] <Tom_itx> where's all the fun if it were all done for me
[17:27:16] <Tom_itx> are they selling the lathe for scrap price?
[17:27:22] <Tom_itx> it looks pretty rough
[17:27:34] <andypugh> Well, it is at 99p so far.
[17:27:52] <andypugh> As he says, the 3kW motor and drive is worth something.
[17:28:00] <Tom_itx> you should investigate
[17:28:09] <andypugh> I would probably give £200 for it if it wasn't in Troon.
[17:28:25] <Tom_itx> too far away?
[17:28:57] <andypugh> 442 miles
[17:33:55] <pcw_home> Heres an example 7I47-sserial connection?
[17:33:56] <pcw_home> > > cable (standard cat5 cut in half):
[17:33:58] <pcw_home> > > ch 0 ch 1
[17:33:59] <pcw_home> > >
[17:34:01] <pcw_home> > > txb1 txb3 orange/white
[17:34:02] <pcw_home> > > txa1 txa3 orange
[17:34:04] <pcw_home> > >
[17:34:05] <pcw_home> > > rxb5 rxb11 green/white
[17:34:07] <pcw_home> > > rxa5 rxa11 green
[17:34:08] <pcw_home> > >
[17:34:10] <pcw_home> > > +5V brown&brown/white
[17:34:11] <pcw_home> > > gnd blue&blue/white
[17:35:53] <Tom_itx> i made up a cable as you show but wasn't sure how the signals would connect ot the 7i47
[17:36:28] <Tom_itx> i assumed RXA would go to TX0 and RXB would go to /TX0
[17:37:59] <pcw_home> Thats tested
[17:38:11] <Tom_itx> i don't quite follow you
[17:38:40] <Tom_itx> i cut the wire and checked the colors... all good
[17:39:27] <Tom_itx> the sserial is mapped to RX0 - IO4 on the 7i47
[17:39:36] <Tom_itx> RX1 - IO 6
[17:39:43] <Tom_itx> TX0 IO20
[17:39:52] <Tom_itx> TX1 - IO21
[17:40:04] <Tom_itx> from the bit file
[17:42:29] <pcw_home> Just that the TXA RXA are the solid colors and the remote RX pair (orange)
[17:42:30] <pcw_home> connects to the 7I47 TX pair an vice versa
[17:48:38] <NickParker> Hi all, so I'm working on my .hal file right now, and a bit unsure how to set up my spindle control. I have a 0-10V input for speed control which I'm controlling with a pwmggen on my 6i25 hooked up to a low pass filter. Then I have 3 5v inputs to the spindle controller.
[17:49:00] <NickParker> To start the spindle I pulse input A and B at the same time
[17:49:04] <NickParker> to stop I just pulse B
[17:49:10] <NickParker> and to start in reverse I pulse B and C
[17:49:31] <NickParker> So my question is, how do I make HAL output pulses like that?
[17:51:26] <andypugh> Good question :-)
[17:51:31] <NickParker> is there a way to make a signal pulse when on every edge of another signal?
[17:51:42] <NickParker> I could use that on motion.spindle-enable I think
[17:51:47] <andypugh> Yes, there is an edge detector in HAL
[17:51:52] <Tom_itx> some type of flipflop
[17:52:22] <andypugh> http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/edge.9.html
[17:52:55] <Tom_itx> pcw_home i guess my question is: is RXA the positive signal and RXB the negative?
[17:53:12] <NickParker> andypugh: sweet that looks like what i want
[17:53:53] <andypugh> The full list is near the bottom of this page.
[17:53:54] <andypugh> http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/
[17:54:28] <andypugh> You might want to look at "lut5" which is remarkably configurable, if a little confusing.
[17:54:54] <NickParker> ooh that does look handy
[17:55:03] <NickParker> not necessarily for this but in general.
[17:55:20] <Tom_itx> those that went before have thought of everything!
[17:55:48] <NickParker> Seriously, I kind of want a second linuxcnc box just for general prototyping use. it can make all sorts of handy signals..
[17:56:40] <skunkworks> NickParker: linuxcnc's hal is pretty powerfull
[17:57:03] <andypugh> And it runs on the Pi and Beagle Bone too.
[18:11:24] <andypugh> Godnight chaps
[18:44:09] <NickParker> so what does trivkins actually do?
[19:24:56] <skunkworks> NickParker: it basically maps joints to axis 1:1
[19:25:24] <skunkworks> vs lets say a hexapod which has a complicated way to translate joints to axis
[20:56:21] <NickParker> alright so for a standard mill i just toss it in the beginning and don't need to do anything to it?
[21:16:54] <NickParker> ahh darn andy's asleep. how do i edit mesa firmwares?
[21:17:06] <NickParker> my 3rd stepgen only has 2 output pins instead of 4
[22:44:50] <Tom_itx> on the 7i71 are all the VFIELD terminals tied together or do they drive different parts of the outputs?
[22:49:48] <Tom_itx> meter says they are...
