[00:06:46] <MattyMatt> I'm leaving the house with 2 model Ms in for 24 hours. no burglary please
[00:07:57] * MattyMatt doesn't get through keybs anymore
[00:08:19] <MattyMatt> ttfn
[00:29:06] <r00t4rd3d> i have no idea what you just tried to convey
[00:37:35] <r00t4rd3d> was that some kind of UK slang?
[00:50:57] <uw> i read that as "no buggery please"
[00:51:16] <uw> you're the boss mattymatt
[01:44:00] <Loetmichel> mornin'
[02:08:49] <DJ9DJ> moin
[06:04:41] <jthornton> what do you look for when getting a touch screen to use with LinuxCNC?
[06:13:42] <dhoovie> probably would start with if linux (if you are starting with the live cd from the linuxcnc.org then thats ubuntu 10.04) supports your touch screen? though I don't know to be honest. may be a place to strat looking.
[06:14:35] <archivist> first find out which type of screen driver etc, elo is one iirc
[06:15:03] <jthornton> someone has mentioned elo before iirc
[06:15:47] <archivist> I never managed to get mine running anyway and now the thing has died
[06:16:23] <jthornton> thats not a good sign
[06:18:14] <archivist> I had no docs whatsoever for the integrated screen/pc thing
[06:19:35] <jthornton> hmm someone mentioned something about how the touch part connected up but I can't remember now
[06:19:38] <archivist> I was guessing that it sent the touch in via com port but it also had plenty of external com ports
[06:20:51] <archivist> I was looking at the parts on it,s internal interface to work out/guess, but as any look inside was an hours work I soon gave up
[06:26:50] <jthornton> this looks good
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EloTouchScreen
[06:58:09] <DJ9DJ> re
[08:08:29] <skunkworks> TGIF
[08:08:38] <jdh> yep.
[08:14:26] <Jymmm> How difficult is it to braize/weld brass with brass (not solder)?
[08:15:25] <archivist> use silver solder
[08:16:15] <Jymmm> Whats the melting point of silver solder?
[08:17:18] <archivist> below brass a bit, but red heat
[08:17:37] <archivist> depends on the particular solder
[08:18:42] <Jymmm> I'm trying to a tiny (vapor) leak in a brass alcohol burner, it gets very hot..
[08:18:49] <Jymmm> ^fix
[08:19:24] <DJ9DJ> for making moonshine? ;)
[08:19:53] <Jymmm> DJ9DJ: No, but you could use moonshine in it for fuel.
[08:20:10] <DJ9DJ> ah :)
[08:20:25] <Jymmm> or store some in it, holds 2.5oz of fuel
[08:21:24] <archivist> we used to use easyflo
http://www.jm-metaljoining.com/products-pages.asp?pageid=61§ionid=3
[08:24:02] <Jymmm> Mmmm cadmium!
[08:25:04] <Jymmm> I've inadvertently melted aluminum with it, so not sure if soldering is the right way to go or not.
[09:00:03] <JT-Shop> seems most touch screeens use 5-wire resistive is that good in an industrial environment?
[09:10:22] <pcw_home> I think the acoustic wave ones are preferred (better clarity and glass surface))
[09:55:47] <Loetmichel> anyone from america here with knowledge of the actual fuel prices in USA?
[09:56:00] <Loetmichel> unleaded gasoline please
[09:56:15] <jdh> $3.69/gallon
[09:56:15] <Jymmm> http://gasbuddy.com/
[09:56:17] <cradek> that seems like it'd be all over the internet
[09:56:36] <Loetmichel> thanks
[09:59:07] <Loetmichel> ... hmmm... thats roighly a dollar per litre... still cheap compared to germany...
[09:59:41] <Loetmichel> its 1,7 eur / litre over here...
[09:59:56] <Loetmichel> so why the americans are complaining about fule prices?
[10:00:13] <jdh> because my YukonXL gets 15mpg and I like to whine?
[10:01:20] <cradek> who's complaining? it's so underpriced people here drive absurd vehicles like YukonXLs.
[10:01:35] <Loetmichel> ok, my omega goes 26mpg... with diesel ;-)
[10:01:47] <Loetmichel> so thats abit cheaper
[10:04:16] <jdh> I have to pay about $/day to drive to/from work. I could ride the bus, but it would cost $5 and take an extra 2-3hours
[10:04:22] <jdh> $7/day
[10:06:59] <Loetmichel> ... and i still bought myself a 50ccm mtotorbike to drife to/from work because it can last 100mpg
[10:07:26] <jdh> a friend at work got killed on his a week or two ago.
[10:09:26] <Loetmichel> condolences.
[10:09:34] <Loetmichel> how did he manage to do that?
[10:09:45] <Loetmichel> car driver witrhoput his glasses on?
[10:34:58] <Dolence> hi ;)
[10:37:58] <skunkworks> get your limits figured out?
[10:40:19] <Dolence> skunkworks yes, problem is on my Z axis now
[10:41:16] <Dolence> I just moved switches a little bit, so now my home switches are "inside" limit switches area
[10:42:13] <Dolence> skunkworks do you have home and limit swicthes on the top of your Z axis?
[10:42:20] <skunkworks> yes
[10:42:44] <Dolence> and MIN and MAX are positive or negative?
[10:43:08] <skunkworks> as the cutter moves into the table - the numbers get more negative..
[10:43:21] <Dolence> ah, ok
[10:43:29] <Dolence> down -> more negative
[10:43:32] <skunkworks> yes
[10:43:44] <Dolence> mine was set as -12.5 to 0, thats it?
[10:44:16] <Dolence> (metric system, 12.5 cm course)
[10:46:23] <skunkworks> I woud think you would want min = -12.5 and max = 0
[10:46:38] <skunkworks> if that is what your looking for
[10:46:53] <Dolence> yes, thats it
[10:48:22] <Dolence> and HOME LOCATION / HOME SWITCH LOCATION
[10:48:51] <Dolence> HOME SWITCH LOCATON = 0
[10:48:58] <Dolence> HOME LOCATION = -0.1
[10:49:03] <Dolence> is it correct?
[11:20:26] <skunkworks> Dolence,
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.5/html/config/ini_homing.html
[11:22:11] <tjb1> stepper mounted on z :D
[11:34:00] <joe9> this is not a linuxcnc question. just wanted to ask your opinion on this, given the expertise here. I am trying to make
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M6WJDK/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?ie=UTF8&smid=AIB7X6SK6CU3C these black dots.
[11:34:11] <joe9> Anyone knows what material it might be?
[11:34:24] <joe9> I go to mcmaster.com and there are a lot of different plastics.
[11:34:42] <joe9> I am not sure what kind would be used for something like this. Any thoughts, please?
[11:35:57] <jdh> are they plastic? not just paper labels?
[11:37:11] <joe9> jdh: i need to make from plastic. I think paper is not removable.
[11:37:57] <joe9> actually, I do not even if I need to make it from plastic. It has to be really smooth. I have one before me now bought a long time ago (and, cannot find them anymore)
[11:38:03] <joe9> It is very shiny and smooth
[11:38:20] <joe9> and, on the other side is silvery in color.
[11:38:31] <jdh> like foil?
[11:39:42] <joe9> jdh, yes, on the other side. but, the top side is black in color, shiny and smooth.
[12:00:23] <Loetmichel> re @ home
[12:02:31] <IchGuckLive> Hi all
[12:02:44] <ktchk> hi
[12:05:28] <ktchk> IchGuckLive: my heekscnc is working now latest from github waterline is testing 100%cpu time for long time
[12:06:00] <IchGuckLive> ask awallin he does the zigzag waterline
[12:06:14] <joe9> IchGuckLive: do you know about plastics?
[12:06:26] <IchGuckLive> why is waterline needet cand you go for Pocket ?
[12:06:49] <joe9> i think pocket does not work with Heekscnc, the last I checked (a few weeks ago)
[12:06:51] <IchGuckLive> PVC PMMA ?
[12:06:55] <joe9> yes.
[12:07:11] <joe9> I am trying to make
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M6WJDK/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?ie=UTF8&smid=AIB7X6SK6CU3C these black dots.
[12:07:15] <joe9> IchGuckLive: ^^
[12:07:24] <IchGuckLive> i worked in a factory that made this plates for 5 years
[12:07:53] <joe9> IchGuckLive: do you know what the name of the material is?
[12:08:00] <ktchk> IchGuckLive: just testing my most used is counterbore
[12:08:08] <IchGuckLive> ktchk:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3m5Liw8LVY
[12:13:19] <IchGuckLive> joe9: its only on paper
[12:13:26] <IchGuckLive> ther is no plastic
[12:14:10] <joe9> IchGuckLive: i want to use plastic to make those dots.
[12:15:53] <cpresser> joe9: take acrylic, line them with double-sided-tape, then laser-cut it.
[12:16:04] <cpresser> but i would rather buy the finished product, thats cheaper :)
[12:18:19] <Loetmichel> cpresser: simpler: buy some "d-c-fix" in the desired colour, get a paper punch for folders and get going ;-)
[12:23:35] <IchGuckLive> Loetmichel: Good idee
[12:23:45] <IchGuckLive> Loetmichel: how is the spoindel doing
[12:23:51] <IchGuckLive> spindel
[12:24:56] <Loetmichel> which one?
[12:25:01] <IchGuckLive> ER
[12:25:13] <IchGuckLive> or did you go further
[12:25:19] <Loetmichel> still: which one?
[12:25:24] <IchGuckLive> Lathe Maybe
[12:25:29] <Loetmichel> the chines bought or the selfbuilt?
[12:25:47] <IchGuckLive> selfbuild
[12:25:50] <Loetmichel> +e -t-d
[12:26:09] <IchGuckLive> coils also selfmade
[12:26:13] <Loetmichel> ahen, not going further, last few weeks were 60+ hrs work each
[12:26:41] <IchGuckLive> i got also somany work no action on the mill
[12:28:06] <IchGuckLive> ktchk: do you got a Win PC to generate G-code
[12:28:33] <ktchk> IchGuckLive: no I always use ubuntu 10.04
[12:28:38] <IchGuckLive> ok
[12:29:18] <ktchk> IchGuckLive: win pc heekcnc no waterline
[12:31:00] <ktchk> IchGuckLive: I just replace bearings for my chinese 0.8 kw spindle with ute ceramic bearings
[12:34:08] <IchGuckLive> ktchk: Noice ß
[12:35:26] <IchGuckLive> ktchk: do xou got a STL part for the Waterline Testing
[12:36:26] <ktchk> IchGuckLive: only the sphere
[12:36:34] <IchGuckLive> ok
[12:38:49] <Loetmichel> ktchk: hmm, sounds like an idea, mine (watercoled) acts up a bit lately, one of the bearings is chirping at certain speeds/temperatures
[12:40:22] <ktchk> Loetmichel: My bearing heatup a lot and not up to speed only few months
[12:42:17] <gmagno> hey, I'm willing to carve some small pieces of wood (78x69x8[mm]) with some nice patterns. Any suggestions on what to carve? Some nice symbols or brands. I'm using a 2mm drill.
[12:43:01] <gmagno> I'm not very satisfied with my google search on svg images... :P
[12:45:39] <ktchk> gmagno: 3d greyscale?
[12:46:35] <gmagno> ktchk, hmm I could try that. Using image_to_gcode, right?
[12:47:18] <ktchk> gmagno: I use linuxcnc directly
[12:47:25] <IchGuckLive> gmagno:
http://www.deskproto.com/download/3dmodels.htm
[12:47:58] <gmagno> ktchk, how?
[12:48:04] <IchGuckLive> gmagno: your faforited lady
[12:48:04] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, nice models
[12:48:12] <gmagno> :)
[12:48:20] <IchGuckLive> a Musicen
[12:48:28] <IchGuckLive> Your Face
[12:49:10] <ktchk> gmagno: from linuxcnc input the grayscale and fill up a table linuxcnc will generate the gcode
[12:49:18] <gmagno> I'm using a 2mm drill in a relatively small wood pieace. Image can't have too much detail, you know
[12:49:29] <IchGuckLive> gmagno:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI7uj-6KgyE
[12:49:51] <IchGuckLive> gmagno: get your body onto it
[12:51:18] <IchGuckLive> Fun is always lola Bunny
[12:52:01] <IchGuckLive> there are somany pictures of here around also §D models
[12:52:02] <gmagno> :)
[12:52:46] <gmagno> I think I'll try a real face
[12:52:49] <IchGuckLive> http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs30/f/2008/049/6/1/Space_Jam__s_Lola_Bunny_Sketch_by_Sprivate.jpg
[12:52:58] <gmagno> ktchk, that calls image_to_gcode, right?
[12:54:16] <ktchk> gmagno: I don't know just open a prg greyscale image file
[12:54:23] <IchGuckLive> gmagno: Google image search -> face grayscale
[12:55:11] <IchGuckLive> Angelina or the President !
[12:56:42] <gmagno> ktchk, yeah, it's perfect! I was calling it outside... shame on me
[12:57:28] <ktchk> gmagno: try chinese grayscale
http://blog.china.alibaba.com/blog/cncengraver/article/b0-i6591616.html
[12:58:36] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, found my model:

[12:58:40] <IchGuckLive> gmagno: Google for this "Büchsenmacher Rosl"
[12:59:27] <ktchk> gmagno: copy and patse 灰度圖 to search a lot of chinese grayscale
[12:59:48] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, who's that nice and sympathetic lady :)
[13:00:16] <gmagno> ktchk, chinese logos and are great
[13:00:45] <IchGuckLive> there are 2mio cards sold etch year with here face ! B) :D O.O

[13:01:23] <gmagno> almos as good as michael jackson
[13:01:28] <gmagno> :)
[13:04:09] <ktchk> gmagno: a b/w picture can do lithophane with corin plastic
[13:06:36] <ktchk> bye
[13:07:13] <gmagno> bye
[13:08:35] <IchGuckLive> gmagno:
[13:08:50] <IchGuckLive> use makehumen for a good 3D model
[13:13:07] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, nice app. I think you guys helped with lots of good suggestions. Gonna start working on it now
[13:13:30] <IchGuckLive> wait some minites i gereate a STL
[13:15:49] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, sure!
[13:16:11] <gmagno> but I dunno how to convert STL to gcode with pycam
[13:16:45] <gmagno> can you send me the image? Image should fit in 78x69x8 [mm]
[13:19:04] <IchGuckLive> i can generate the G-code
[13:19:46] <gmagno> perfect!
[13:19:56] <gmagno> I'm using a 2mm drill
[13:20:14] <gmagno> I also need to know where the reference is
[13:26:10] <gmagno> to position my spindle
[13:26:33] <gmagno> if you can put the reference right in the middle of the square, it would be great
[13:45:14] <Dolence> guys, please, there is a shortcut key in Axis to move all axis to home location?
[13:45:38] <gmagno> in Axys?
[13:45:42] <gmagno> Axis*
[13:45:49] <IchGuckLive> Dolence: HI G52 G0 X0 Y0 Z0
[13:47:01] <IchGuckLive> gmagno: i maybe missunderstud you you want The Summer Lady in 3D
[13:47:08] <IchGuckLive> or only a laydy
[13:47:37] <IchGuckLive> Summer lady is only in Engrave nice
[13:47:46] <IchGuckLive> 3d needs a color change
[13:48:14] <FredrikHson> hi i was wondering if you need to have 2 pins for the spindle direction control or if its possible to do it with just one
[13:48:17] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, if you generate a nice g-code for me to carve within those dimensions, I would be very grateful. It does not matter what image, I trust you. But dont want you to lose much time with it, I'm sure you have much more to do
[13:50:12] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, there is only one thing that worries me, the fact that I'm using a 2mm drill. That might not be small enough reach much detail
[13:51:01] <gmagno> maybe you're doing a too fine 3d object, which after carving would lose all of the detail
[13:53:05] <gmagno> when I do my images in inkscape, I set the stroke width to the drill diameter. This way I can see exacly how the carving will exacly be
[13:55:20] <Dolence> IchGuckLive hi! how are you Sammel?
[13:55:38] <Dolence> IchGuckLive I was just cutting some pieces here :D
[13:55:41] <IchGuckLive> ktchk how do you remove this red
[13:55:57] <IchGuckLive> inthe 3D scales
[13:56:48] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, he left some time ago, afaik
[13:57:27] <IchGuckLive> isee
[13:57:31] <IchGuckLive> i got it
[14:00:26] <IchGuckLive> gmagno: some dxf from lola_bunny can you generate this then for your needs
[14:01:22] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, ?
[14:01:40] <gmagno> do you have lola_bunny dxf?
[14:02:31] <IchGuckLive> dont you got a cam
[14:02:45] <IchGuckLive> yes and SVG
[14:04:16] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, SVG is fine, can you send it to me?
[14:04:25] <IchGuckLive> querry
[14:04:35] <IchGuckLive> no open mails
[14:04:48] <IchGuckLive> 140kb

[14:08:25] <IchGuckLive> its a privat talk look down to your IRC there is my name listet
[14:08:59] <Dolence> how could I add a button to go home? i think i need to read about HAL/integration, right?
[14:09:26] <IchGuckLive> WHY
[14:09:34] <IchGuckLive> Dolence: USE MDI
[14:09:49] <Dolence> a phisical button, i mean
[14:10:04] <Dolence> I'm palnning to do a panel like this one
[14:10:13] <Dolence> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvhJj1yzqks&feature=related
[14:10:22] <Dolence> of course, not Mach3 crappy
[14:11:07] <IchGuckLive> PVC
[14:11:16] <IchGuckLive> PCV is your frend
[14:11:18] <FredrikHson> python+halui worked just fine for me
[14:12:06] <Dolence> PVC? Material?
[14:12:28] <FredrikHson> and an atmega chip/ardino for the physical device part
[14:12:42] <Dolence> I acn do it, with avr
[14:12:52] <Dolence> *can
[14:13:08] <Dolence> I just dont know how could I integrate to linuxcnc
[14:13:17] <Dolence> are you using PS/2 port?
[14:13:26] <Dolence> or serial...
[14:13:33] <FredrikHson> usb serial
[14:13:47] <FredrikHson> https://ckcnc.wordpress.com/basic-arduino-emc-howto/ followed this guide and well made some major changes after
[14:14:37] <Dolence> ty very much
[14:15:05] <FredrikHson> used an ft232rl chip for the usb part
[14:16:50] <Dolence> I have one of these laying around
[14:22:38] <Dolence> look, all this can be done using PS/2
[14:22:39] <Dolence> http://www.cnczone.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=158670&d=1335660856
[14:23:20] <Dolence> thats a pretty cool control panel, I would remove some button through
[14:23:38] <FredrikHson> if its just regular buttons then sure it can be done through ps/2 since you can do all those options though the keyboard
[14:24:24] <Dolence> yeah, just missing go to home position, but surely I could do a new home scan
[14:24:29] <Dolence> usign homing
[14:24:40] <Dolence> it would be the same, right?
[14:24:54] <Dolence> I mean, almost... in practice
[14:25:29] <FredrikHson> perhaps i haven't messed with making a homing button or anything like that
[14:25:50] <FredrikHson> my device was just a jog wheel + display
[14:36:34] <Dolence> I'm using a touch screen lcd too
[14:36:43] <Dolence> but wasnt able to load a file in touchy yet
[14:37:05] <Dolence> and I dont know if touchy have a preview window
[14:37:08] <Dolence> like in axis
[14:37:24] <Dolence> axis is just fine :D
[14:38:09] <IchGuckLive> gmagno: Mail
[14:40:09] <gmagno> IchGuckLive, what do you guys call Axis?
[14:40:32] <IchGuckLive> LINIXCNC
[14:40:51] <Dolence> main/default user interface from linuxcnc
[14:41:09] <gmagno> got it, ty
[14:41:16] <Dolence> you can switch to one of the others avaliable
[14:41:25] <IchGuckLive> im stil working on Summer

[16:24:35] <JT-Shop> the userspace component gs2 for the AutomationDirect VFD drives
[16:24:51] <JT-Shop> it uses modbus over the serial port
[16:25:15] <micges> oh
[16:25:48] <JT-Shop> I would guess you need a serial port for each drive?

[22:35:00] <FinboySlick> L84Supper: You made Slashdot! You made Slashdot!
[22:35:05] <FinboySlick> You're a star!
[22:35:22] * FinboySlick starts a fanclub.
[22:35:51] <ReadError> uhm
[22:35:52] <ReadError> link
[22:36:33] <FinboySlick> http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/12/09/07/2322207/rhombus-tech-a10-eoma-68-cpu-card-schematics-completed
[22:42:01] <L84Supper> FinboySlick, not me, I left that project back in May
[22:42:34] <L84Supper> it's actually under a patent held by people I'd rather not be associated with
[22:43:39] <FinboySlick> L84Supper: Oh... Can I still form a fanclub?
[22:44:04] <L84Supper> will there be dancing?
[22:44:15] * FinboySlick bought plastic and now has no clue if it's delrin or nylon or ABS or whatever else.
[22:45:00] <FinboySlick> Mind you, I don't care so much beyond figuring out my speed/feed
[22:49:58] <FinboySlick> I can't dance very well and so far nobody joined the club.
[22:51:44] <L84Supper> what are you working on with the plastics?
[22:52:52] <FinboySlick> Replacing a cheapo flowmeter inpeller. It had poor design that caused it to oscillate on its axis and eventually end up with worn out oval holes on the shaft.
[22:54:17] <FinboySlick> Hopefully it'll be less likely to wear out (this is very slippery, whatever plastic it is) and seems a bit more bouncy so hopefully won't impact-wear.
[22:55:04] <FinboySlick> And if it's just as bad, at least it's a three step cnc program to make more.
[23:03:25] <FinboySlick> Well, time for bed.
[23:05:47] <ReadError> L84Supper: shady characters?
[23:12:30] <L84Supper> ReadError, secret patents on the form factor, undisclosed license fees, etc etc and too much drama
[23:16:01] <L84Supper> plus the maker of the ARM SOC started out sharing info and later kept things closed, similar to Marvell with the OLPC project
[23:23:34] <ReadError> scumbag raspberry pi
[23:23:37] <ReadError> makes device
