[03:02:07] <DJ9DJ> moin
[04:03:45] <micges> Loetmichel: free today?
[04:05:42] <Loetmichel> yes
[04:05:45] <Loetmichel> ;-)
[04:05:48] <Loetmichel> sort of
[04:07:19] <Loetmichel> have to drive 200km now to my sister, installing two webcams in her rabbit hutch
[04:07:53] <Jymmm> bunny pr0n?
[04:10:47] <Loetmichel> Jymmm: something like that, yeah ;-)
[04:10:54] <Jymmm> perv
[04:11:00] <Jymmm> =)
[04:11:17] <Jymmm> Loetmichel: I knew there was a reason I like you
[06:54:12] <r00t4rd3d> -C-
[06:54:57] <r00t4rd3d> Sir Charles Brown
[07:27:50] <jthornton> if I run a hal file with halrun like this halrun -I -f saved.hal when I shut down the gui part how do I shut down halrun?
[07:29:01] <jthornton> or do I not want the -I
[07:30:36] <jthornton> hmm without the -I it runs but shuts down at once so that is not the answer
[07:33:42] <jthornton> what is the difference between halrun and halcmd?
[07:34:29] <jthornton> if I do halcmd -f start.hal I get an error RTAPI: ERROR: could not open shared memory (errno=2)
[07:34:29] <jthornton> Segmentation fault
[07:39:54] <cpresser> halrun also starts the complete hal-environment; halcmd expects the environment to be ready
[07:40:33] <jthornton> ah ok that makes sense
[07:43:27] <jthornton> I think I need to figure out how to use gladevcp -H option
[07:46:09] <jthornton> nope, that gives the same error
[07:46:31] <jthornton> I wonder how you set up the complete hal environment?
[07:48:19] <jthornton> hmmm halrun is a bash script
[07:52:40] <awallin> scripts/realtime start (or something like that)
[07:52:53] <awallin> before you can run halcmd
[07:53:03] <jthornton> thanks
[07:55:18] <jthornton> hmm it is in a RIP but command not found for installed
[08:13:09] <jthornton> holy crap I cracked the secret decoder ring
[08:37:28] <syyl> saturday gone and buisness as usual ;)
[08:37:29] <syyl> https://dl.dropbox.com/u/24396704/Grillen%26Gie%C3%9Fen/IMG_0848.JPG
[08:44:19] <archivist> you are having far too much fun!
[08:44:32] <syyl> could be ;)
[08:44:41] <syyl> this time we had two guests from australia
[08:45:29] <syyl> were getting international
[08:48:21] <archivist> and me, made gears for someone in usa
[08:50:41] <archivist> what weight are you melting these days
[08:51:40] <syyl> about 10..15kg each run
[08:52:54] <syyl> the crucible gets hard to handle if we melt more
[08:52:55] <syyl> :D
[08:54:48] <archivist> overhead crane next then
[08:55:06] <syyl> we tried to convince nick, that he needs a crane...
[08:55:19] <syyl> "not yet"
[08:55:22] <syyl> ;D
[08:55:46] <syyl> or lifting equipment for two persons
[08:55:58] <syyl> that will be nessecary if cast iron finaly works..
[09:23:05] <jthornton> syyl, is there any details on that burner anywhere?
[09:23:20] <syyl> not really
[09:23:25] <jthornton> ok
[09:23:35] <syyl> i think its built like in the book from artfull budger(?)
[09:24:25] <syyl> there is just a blower, a pressurized tank for the wasteoil and a nozzle, that sprays the oil into the airstream of the blower
[09:25:23] <jthornton> like this? http://www.artfulbodgermetalcasting.com/4.html
[09:28:19] <syyl> thats the design, yes
[09:28:53] <jp__> jthornton: got any good glade/python tutorial links?
[09:29:10] <jthornton> I only know of one that is good :)
[09:29:29] <jthornton> http://gnipsel.com/
[09:29:56] <jp__> lol
[09:30:27] <jp__> i use python all the time in my scada package but just starting to play with glade
[09:30:54] <jp__> looks straight forward
[09:31:42] <jthornton> yea, once you get a feel for the Gtk Interface Designer and learn where you have to press the enter key for something to stick...
[09:32:19] <jp__> yeah that seems to be an anoying pain with alot of people
[09:36:33] <jp__> is it possible to embed a glade app in an axis tab? i understand i can use glade to build a layout and place hal widgets but can you just place regular glade widigets running python code behind to do whatever?
[09:37:28] <jthornton> yes, you can mix Gtk widgets in with EMC widgets
[09:37:47] <jthornton> I have a tutorial started on that too...
[09:37:54] <jp__> cool
[09:39:14] <Tom_itx> jthornton just threw it all in a bag and shook it up
[09:39:31] <jthornton> it is the same as connecting the signals in my Glade3 tutorial
[09:47:25] <jp__> Nice tutorials exactly what i was looking for!!!
[09:49:31] <jp__> jthornton: do you do any HMI/Scada programing?
[09:49:44] <JT-Shop-2> no
[09:59:20] <Tom_itx> anyone know of a quality pen drill?
[09:59:47] <Tom_itx> the last one i got lasted maybe a month before the cheapass aluminum housing gave out
[10:00:19] <Tom_itx> and my drill chuck won't hold a #80 drill
[10:00:42] <JT-Shop> all I've found are cheapassjunk
[10:01:25] <drmacro> I've got a .hal and .ini file generated by stepconf wizard. I can jog all the axis, but is if I try to run the LINUXCNC demo file it says can't run when the axis aren't homed. But, I homed them all (the little icon is beside each coord in the DRO). Looking for where to start trouble shooting. At this point I don't have limit switches and don't think I have any defined...
[10:01:30] <Tom_itx> i guess i could make a new end for this one from brass or something
[10:02:00] <Tom_itx> i finally wore my good one out
[10:02:32] <JT-Shop> drmacro: after you home all the axes you still get the error?
[10:02:55] <drmacro> JT-SHOP: yes
[10:03:31] <JT-Shop> sounds like a mistake in your config somehow
[10:04:45] <JT-Shop> can you put your .stepconf file up on filebin or something?
[10:27:33] <drmacro> JT:Shop: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ly8y36vdkb64y7e/9pMm4xzSJo
[10:33:30] <JT-Shop> runs fine for me, I did get an error when I loaded the file in the Stepconf Wizard but it still made the config and it is running now
[10:34:10] <JT-Shop> I suspect you didn't read the last error you go after homing all 4 axes
[10:39:00] <drmacro> JT-Shop: Hmm...when I home the Z axis it always got back to -.8018 not 0.0
[10:39:53] <drmacro> /s/got/goes/
[10:40:21] <JT-Shop> drmacro: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/common/User_Concepts.html#_when_you_8217_re_lost
[11:06:22] <drmacro> JT-Shop: any G code entered in the MDI window says: Can't issue MDI command when not homed!
[11:11:27] <joe9> just want to check if this is a big deal? I want to change the code behind the "Home All" button to also set my G55 values (using touch probe) with a G10 L2 P2 .... Is that a big deal?
[11:12:09] <joe9> can the code behind the axis gui of linuxcnc be easily changed?
[11:16:06] <joe9> or, should I be asking this question in #linuxcnc-devel?
[11:16:23] <JT-Shop> drmacro: I get an error when I go to the parallel port screen in the Stepconf Wizard can you repost the file?
[11:17:38] <JT-Shop> it only lists outputs for X and Z axis
[11:18:38] <JT-Shop> MDI works fine in your config when I home all 4 axes
[11:18:56] <JT-Shop> you might want to just start a new config
[11:19:26] <IchGuckLive> Hi all around the world
[11:29:36] <drmacro> JT-Shop: I get the same error. My interface has the z and a enable as the same pin, so I have to edit the file after StepconfWix gets done...I think that is why it gacks
[12:12:25] <JT-Shop> that does make it impossible for me to help if I'm working with different files...
[12:13:12] * JT-Shop hears a nap calling my name...
[12:13:40] <Jymmm> It's a trap... RUN!
[12:34:50] <IchGuckLive> Hi all v
[13:24:41] -calvino.freenode.net:#linuxcnc- [freenode-info] channel flooding and no channel staff around to help? Please check with freenode support: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#gettinghelp
[14:17:24] <sendoushi> hey guys
[14:17:50] <sendoushi> what's new in the cnc world? :D
[14:18:21] <sendoushi> so... i'm thinking on building an engrave / mill cnc... anyone saying i should or something? :P
[14:21:06] <pjm> yes build a mill! well worth doing... i did mine a few years back and probably use it at least once per weekend
[14:21:50] <sendoushi> pjm: do you sell your work or something? like... people go to you to make customs?
[14:23:14] <sendoushi> first i was thinking on making a big mill to make guitars
[14:23:52] <sendoushi> that really seems interesting for me but ... the big one, unless i pay a ton, won't be able to make engrave or something right?
[14:23:57] <sendoushi> or is it all the same?
[14:24:02] <pjm> ah no not really sell it, its usually just for projects around here
[14:24:18] <pjm> u can make a mill to engrave easily...
[14:24:24] <sendoushi> i dunno... i'm kind of scared to spend like 600e to make a CNC that i won't ever have clients to gather that kind of money
[14:24:34] <pjm> i use something like 0.25mm engraver bits on mine to do writing and its OK
[14:24:46] <sendoushi> i see
[14:25:13] <pjm> http://pjm.dyndns.org/twtr/nixie4.jpg writing on top of that was engraved on the mill for example
[14:25:32] <sendoushi> ah it seems really fine
[14:25:49] <pjm> i guess if u want to make guitars, then u are talking about a gantry type mill with a fairly large bed
[14:26:00] <sendoushi> yes
[14:26:08] <sendoushi> someone here on the channel helped me figure out the stuff i need for it
[14:26:16] <sendoushi> and its like 500, 600e
[14:26:33] <sendoushi> but i was thinking maybe i should start slow and low
[14:26:47] <sendoushi> maybe start by doing some custom pieces and sell them or something
[14:26:55] <pjm> yep thats possible
[14:27:15] <sendoushi> this will always be an hobby but as obviously i don't want to make my hobby much expensive since i have others ehehe
[14:27:17] <pjm> i made some antenna feeds on my mill and sold them for a small profit, which went back into the 'upgrades' pot
[14:27:47] <sendoushi> i dunno i see myself doing customs like pieces for guitars and pedals or...
[14:27:59] <sendoushi> i dunno poker chips ehehe
[14:28:02] <pjm> if there is a market for it, then it is well worth doing
[14:28:14] <pjm> and u can always punt the bits on ebay
[14:28:20] <sendoushi> punt?
[14:28:26] <pjm> not that i know much about guitars
[14:28:33] <pjm> u know, auction / sell them on
[14:28:39] <sendoushi> aaah
[14:28:40] <sendoushi> ok
[14:29:15] <pjm> but for the mill, u can start with a small machine
[14:29:22] <sendoushi> i could like... do it by hand but that take double the time i have know how around 3d and since i don't have any tools... it would get more expensive
[14:29:38] <sendoushi> pjm: maybe its the best to understand the machine and stuff
[14:29:53] <pjm> yeah probably a good first step
[14:29:57] <sendoushi> and since there are no schematics for gantries on the internet and stuff...
[14:30:10] <pjm> make it up as you go along
[14:30:13] <pjm> thats what i did
[14:30:16] <pjm> with my mill
[14:30:21] <pjm> started with 3 axis on parport
[14:30:29] <sendoushi> parport?
[14:30:34] <pjm> and ended with 4 axis controlled via mesa cards
[14:30:37] <pjm> printer port..
[14:30:41] <awallin> there should be a few documented router builds on cnczone, but it may be hard to find the signal among all of the noise..
[14:33:25] <sendoushi> this will be a looong trip!
[14:33:27] <andy> howdy, has anyone used dxf2gcode? I'm looking to try some etching and it seems like this should do what I'm looking for... anything better out there? In the end I'd like to try etching out some pcbs.
[14:33:49] <jp__> I have works fine
[14:34:27] <jp__> why not just use the cam function in eagle?
[14:34:37] <jp__> PCB2GCODE
[14:35:04] <andy> don't have eagle... thought i'd just try some designs first
[14:35:15] <jp__> eagle is free
[14:35:23] <jp__> to a point
[14:35:24] <andy> ok
[14:35:34] <andy> i'll check it out then
[14:36:56] <andy> i was wondering what software I'd use to make the layouts anyway
[14:37:00] <andy> thanks
[14:37:22] <jp__> no prob
[14:48:05] <wd5jwy> is <jthornton> around this afternoon?
[14:48:12] <jthornton> yep
[14:48:17] <jp__> awallin: how did you make out with you 3d printer?
[14:48:23] <wd5jwy> Hey John
[14:48:46] <jthornton> hay
[14:48:50] <wd5jwy> I'm still not able to install the spooler.comp file - says it can't find the program "comp"
[14:49:09] <wd5jwy> I installed the dev packages
[14:49:55] <jthornton> you did this from a terminal sudo apt-get install linuxcnc-dev
[14:50:28] <wd5jwy> yes, but let me try again just to be sure - I thot the package installed
[14:51:23] <wd5jwy> Message - Couldn't find package linuxcnc-dev
[14:51:24] <jthornton> open the synaptic package manager and search for linuxcnc
[14:51:33] <wd5jwy> ok
[14:54:02] <jthornton> go to Settings > Repositories > Other Software
[14:55:13] <wd5jwy> I'm there
[14:55:45] <wd5jwy> do I click "+Add"?
[14:56:06] <jthornton> do you have two entries for linuxcnc.org?
[14:56:22] <wd5jwy> yes
[14:56:29] <wd5jwy> base emc2.4
[14:56:30] <wd5jwy> and
[14:56:40] <wd5jwy> base emc2.4 (Source Code)
[14:56:43] <jthornton> no, that is wrong you must edit them
[14:57:00] <jthornton> click on base emc then edit it
[14:57:21] <jthornton> change component: base linuxcnc2.5
[14:57:47] <wd5jwy> done
[14:57:56] <jthornton> both of them?
[14:58:08] <wd5jwy> oh, no - let me do the source code line
[14:58:24] <wd5jwy> ok, both done
[14:58:50] <jthornton> close that and reload
[14:59:34] <wd5jwy> ok, done
[14:59:50] <jthornton> ok search for linuxcnc
[15:00:37] <wd5jwy> ok, I see linuxcnc-dev now
[15:00:48] <jthornton> ok install that
[15:01:01] <jthornton> and linuxcnc if it is not installed
[15:01:56] <wd5jwy> installing - linuxcnc was already installed
[15:02:15] <wd5jwy> got an error
[15:02:17] <wd5jwy> E: /var/cache/apt/archives/linuxcnc-dev_1%3a2.5.1_i386.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/man/man1/comp.1.gz', which is also in package nmh 0
[15:03:12] <jthornton> dunno what that is
[15:03:43] <wd5jwy> me neither - guess I'll just ignore for now and try to install the comp file - see what happens
[15:03:51] <jthornton> ok
[15:04:55] <wd5jwy> crap - "sudo: comp: command not found"
[15:05:11] <wd5jwy> hang on - in the wrong dir
[15:05:20] <jthornton> try sudo apt-get install linuxcnc-dev
[15:09:27] <wd5jwy> still getting the dev install error
[15:09:34] <wd5jwy> I wonder if a re-boot would help?
[15:09:46] <wd5jwy> probably not tho
[15:09:49] <jthornton> can't hurt
[15:09:58] <wd5jwy> Ok, lemme try
[15:10:01] <wd5jwy> by the way
[15:10:12] <wd5jwy> I am now able to make my motors run
[15:10:18] <wd5jwy> finally
[15:10:24] <jthornton> YEA!
[15:10:35] <wd5jwy> so that's at least a small victory
[15:10:48] <jthornton> one bite at a time
[15:11:02] <wd5jwy> pretty cool too - I can go in and invert the dir bit and reverse the motors
[15:11:15] <wd5jwy> this is some fun stuff
[15:12:13] <wd5jwy> the last thing - other than your improvements - is to figure out how to shut down the Hal module when closing the glade panel
[15:12:42] <wd5jwy> I know you said to do that in the "window-destroy" def, but I'm not sure what command to use
[15:13:13] <jthornton> yea, it leaves the halrun up and going even after you close the window
[15:13:39] <wd5jwy> yes, and that's not good - it froze up my puter once and then crashed
[15:13:47] <wd5jwy> so, that's some cleanup still left to do
[15:14:02] <jthornton> you can "install" your GUI and just run it with linuxcnc path to my ini
[15:14:19] <jthornton> did you see that in the forum?
[15:14:50] <wd5jwy> I haven't looked through all that yet
[15:14:55] <wd5jwy> but I will
[15:15:10] <wd5jwy> let me see if a reboot will allow me to install the dev package
[15:15:14] <wd5jwy> be back in a minute
[15:15:19] <jthornton> ok
[15:22:37] <wd5jwy> E: /var/cache/apt/archives/linuxcnc-dev_1%3a2.5.1_i386.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/man/man1/comp.1.gz', which is also in package nmh 0
[15:22:44] <wd5jwy> same error again
[15:22:59] <jthornton> I wonder what nmh is?
[15:23:18] <archivist> what is the E: you keep pasting
[15:23:33] <wd5jwy> I dunno - drive letter maybe?
[15:23:43] <cradek> nmh is a very old email handling package
[15:23:49] <wd5jwy> nmh = numerical machine
[15:23:50] <wd5jwy> ?
[15:23:56] <archivist> one does not have drive letter on linux
[15:23:56] <cradek> "comp" was how you wrote an email
[15:24:11] <wd5jwy> that's what I thought
[15:24:12] <cradek> just uninstall it if you don't use it
[15:24:24] <wd5jwy> I don't use it - how do I uninstall it?
[15:25:00] <wd5jwy> I'm a linux newbie - so don't know my way around too well yet
[15:25:07] <jthornton> synaptic package manager
[15:25:12] <wd5jwy> ok
[15:25:17] <wd5jwy> look for nmh?
[15:25:20] <jthornton> search for nmh
[15:25:23] <jthornton> yep
[15:25:53] <cradek> http://rand-mh.sourceforge.net/book/exmh/figs/mpotedbw.gif
[15:26:11] <cradek> this is what the gui for it looks like (I used it heavily, long long ago)
[15:26:23] <L84Supper> and hope that gnome, x and 67 other applications aren't dependent on it :)
[15:26:38] <wd5jwy> ok, nmh completely removed
[15:26:40] <jthornton> I wonder how it got installed?
[15:26:47] <wd5jwy> trying linuxcnc-dev install again
[15:27:17] <wd5jwy> I think I did it - linux was looking for any program with name "comp" and found nmh
[15:27:28] <wd5jwy> asked me if I wanted to install it - thot I needed it
[15:27:33] <wd5jwy> so I did
[15:27:42] <jthornton> gotcha
[15:28:18] <cradek> it's hard to avoid using any program name that's been used before
[15:28:27] <wd5jwy> Cool! - successfully installed this time
[15:28:40] <wd5jwy> so, I should be able to install the comp now
[15:28:52] <jthornton> yep
[15:30:22] <wd5jwy> ok, done - it worked that time
[15:30:32] <jthornton> cool
[15:31:12] <wd5jwy> ok, getting ready to try it
[15:33:43] <wd5jwy> SyntaxError: invalid syntax
[15:33:44] <wd5jwy> start.hal:1: gladevcp exited without becoming ready
[15:34:23] <jthornton> did you change anything?
[15:34:42] <wd5jwy> no, just downloaded the zip file and unzipped into a new dir
[15:35:01] <wd5jwy> let me delete these files and dwnload again
[15:36:46] <sendoushi> soo... let's say i use linuxcnc what's the best 3d software to work with it?
[15:36:48] <sendoushi> i'm used to work with maya and luxology modo (more this one)
[15:36:50] <sendoushi> or is it all the same?
[15:37:45] <jthornton> did you copy the last version of the component? it's not in the zip file
[15:37:57] <wd5jwy> ok, worked this time
[15:38:03] <MattyMatt> 3d software isn't really CAD, but I use blender so.....
[15:38:26] <jthornton> got a green bar going back and forth?
[15:39:12] <jthornton> I think I hear the other children calling my name...
[15:39:24] <jthornton> they want me to come outside and play now
[15:40:36] <wd5jwy> yes, green bar works
[15:40:41] <wd5jwy> that's pretty cool
[15:40:42] <sendoushi> MattyMatt: ooh so... any software will work i guess
[15:40:53] <sendoushi> awesome!!! now i just have to do a CNC
[15:40:53] <sendoushi> :p
[15:41:41] <MattyMatt> you may find CAM scripts a bit scarce on maya. they turn your 3d/CAD into gcode for the CNC
[15:41:59] <sendoushi> i prefer to use Modo
[15:42:09] <sendoushi> but there are always ways to convert from one to another also
[15:42:15] <sendoushi> so... i don't see problems :)
[15:42:16] <MattyMatt> yeah
[15:42:53] <MattyMatt> if you've got a complex artistic model to mill, you can use some common format like STL to get it into a gcode generator
[15:43:28] <sendoushi> well not for now but in the future i have the idea to make some engrave stuff
[15:43:34] <sendoushi> like custom parts for guitars and stuff
[15:44:06] <MattyMatt> 2D engraving tends to be done differently, via DXF or SVG
[15:44:29] <sendoushi> but then... you have to set like the Y or something no?
[15:44:47] <sendoushi> since those formats are vector
[15:45:14] <MattyMatt> yeah engraving can be 3d too
[15:45:41] <sendoushi> but that will be experiences and tryouts after building it so...
[15:46:02] <sendoushi> it will take a while lol
[16:20:01] <DJ9DJ> gn8
[17:09:54] <joe9> i think freecad and heekscad are pretty good.
[17:21:48] <alex4nder> he
[17:21:49] <alex4nder> y
[18:53:44] <Jymmm> ReadError you can't charge a single 18650 with your charger that you showed me, can you?
[21:46:34] <r00t4rd3d> shhh
[23:44:50] <Jymmm> tap tap tap... is this thing on?
