02:15 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
05:40 PM skunkworks: andypugh_: interesting observation on missing tooth encoder. I had just booted up linuxcnc and was running the spindle at about 300rpm. I was threading with a sharpie and notice that it was not taking the same path each path.
05:40 PM skunkworks: 100 line encoder 1 missing tooth
05:41 PM skunkworks: I thought it was maybe losing postion. so I setup a indicator on the Z to see if it came back to the same postion each pass - it did.
05:41 PM skunkworks: So I brought up halscope - I noticed that the index was being set to true - and then instantly setting to false. (not sensing the gap)
05:42 PM skunkworks: So - increased the spindle speed by about 2x and then it started sensing the gap.
05:42 PM andypugh_: Hmmm…
05:42 PM skunkworks: slowed it back down again - and is kept working.
05:42 PM andypugh_: OK, that’s wierder
05:43 PM skunkworks: it has been working ok since. I will re-start linuxcnc and see if it happens again
05:43 PM andypugh_: Can you raise an issue on the github? So we don’t lose this
05:44 PM skunkworks: sure - let me make sure I can re-produce it.
05:44 PM skunkworks: (keep doing what you are doing!)
05:46 PM skunkworks: This is the first time I saw something goofy - it has been pretty cool to play with.
05:49 PM skunkworks: (I am running whatever version is in the debian repository for bookworm - I know there was a fix but have not looked to see if it made it in there)
05:49 PM skunkworks: when encoder was causing a crash? it has been a while)
05:49 PM skunkworks: I will play with it more
08:17 PM skunkworks: andypugh_: tried master - same results. Hopefully the bug report makes sense..
08:18 PM skunkworks: it has some pretty screenshots..
08:18 PM skunkworks: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/issues/2635
08:24 PM skunkworks: the 'velocity' of the spindle certainly looks interesting in the first one..
08:26 PM skunkworks: hmm- is that the issue - the encoder module isn't 'seeing' the gap?
08:27 PM skunkworks: I think the rpm is actually wrong in the first image.
08:28 PM skunkworks: I am petty sure I ran the same rpm after upping it to get the index to work correctly
08:34 PM skunkworks: yes - it doesn't calculate the rpm/rps correctly initally
08:35 PM skunkworks: (I need an rpm gauge to be sure - but the 1st and 3rd picture - the spindle is running the same rpm
08:36 PM skunkworks: but the first one shows 5.2ish rps and the 3rd shows 3ish? sorry - the base line isn't on a division)
