02:15 AM pere: hi
02:27 AM pere: andypugh: I suspect it might be a good idea to drop the ifdef and remove the include statement if 3.10 kernels are no longer supported, to clean up the code.
03:58 AM linuxcnc-build2: Build [#53](http://buildbot2.highlab.com/buildbot/#builders/13/builds/53) of `00-checkin` 4failed.
05:28 AM linuxcnc-build2: Build [#55](http://buildbot2.highlab.com/buildbot/#builders/13/builds/55) of `00-checkin` 3completed successfully.
06:04 AM -!- #linuxcnc-devel mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:05 AM andypugh: pere: Seems reasonable. http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?MinimumSoftwareVersions suggests that we don’t need to support v3 kernels in 2.9.
09:37 AM JT-Shop_ is now known as JT-Shop
04:20 PM roguish[m]: seb_kuzminsky: seb. happy holidaze. hey something odd happened. I installed debian 11 (bullseye) and linuxcnc from buildbot2. linuxcnc-uspace_2.10.0~pre0.358.g213e0ae91_amd64.deb
04:20 PM roguish[m]: the full set of all 4 debs.
04:21 PM roguish[m]: and kernel 4.19 from buster.
04:21 PM Tom_L: what a rebel
04:21 PM roguish[m]: test ok with Axis
04:21 PM Tom_L: nice
04:22 PM roguish[m]: I went to run pncconf, and it said no hostmod2 installed in /lib/firmware
04:23 PM roguish[m]: tried to run a sim of qtdragon gui (pyvcp) and no pyvcp module found.....
04:23 PM roguish[m]: not good. waz up?
04:30 PM roguish[m]: poo. I mean Qtvcp not pyvcp.
05:01 PM JT-Cave: roguish[m], pncconf has been saying that for years, you would think that chris would turn that off
07:30 PM chrismorley: I'm open to when and how to let people know there are no firmware installed.
07:43 PM andypugh: chrismorley: I think it should only mention it for cards that need firmware.
07:44 PM andypugh: (Specifically firmware in /lib/firmware )
07:49 PM chrismorley: I someone wants to use one of the old cards that use firmware, they would not know why it doesnt show up in pncconf.
07:49 PM chrismorley: Maybe a better worded message?
08:16 PM chrismorley: To be clearer - pncconf uses the found firmware to know what cards are available
08:36 PM andypugh: But we know which ones need firmware? (7i20, 7i22, 7i43 just off the top of my head) but it’s a fairly well defined list and maps to the FPGA I think?
08:40 PM andypugh: Are you trying to avoid asking the customer what card they bought and expecting a correct reply? I can understand why you would not trust that data.
09:21 PM chrismorley: Yes to avoid having to update pncconf on every card, it searches the firmware folders for hints.
09:22 PM chrismorley: Of course that is also broken now with cards that don;t need firmware soo..
09:26 PM chrismorley: It's a difficult problem to be correct in all situation. Mesa and us would need to get together and agree on the best and consistent way to find and confiure cards.
09:42 PM andypugh: Its
09:46 PM andypugh: It’s not like pcw--home is hard to contact. I think it’s a fairly stable list of old cards that do need firmware (of which there will be no more). (I have a feeling that that this is just because those have become expensive).
11:03 PM chrismorley: That specific problem has a faurly direct fix - I don't imagine he will make more cards that donload the firmware each time. I meant the overall problem of configuring super flexible cards.
11:10 PM chrismorley: I am also not so motivated to spend my time refactoring it if other people are creating the same thing. Not without some interest anyways :)
11:11 PM chrismorley: I change the message in pncconf to hopefully help.
11:11 PM chrismorley: Night
