12:55 AM pere: Possible source of funding for LinuxCNC activities... <URL: https://www.assure.ngi.eu/open-calls/ >.
01:32 AM pere: andypugh: matt said something during last video chat about him being elected leader of the linuxcnc project several years ago. any idea how the electing process was?
02:25 AM pere: so much for getting github to test classicladder on arm... <URL: https://github.com/petterreinholdtsen/linuxcnc/actions/runs/3580796387/jobs/6023231175 > :(
04:14 AM andypugh: pere: That was before my time.
04:21 AM pere: ok
04:21 AM pere: andypugh: regarding a publicly available vm for linuxcnc, perhaps it could build isos too?
04:27 AM andypugh: We only build the ISOs a couple of times a year, it’s not a big job.
04:34 AM pere: I know, and I want to build test ISOs automatically and regularly instead.

10:13 AM roguish[m]: good morning..... is Steffen here ????
10:14 AM roguish[m]: pere: I could probably help test ISOs....
10:14 AM pere: roguish[m]: smoe is almost never here.
10:19 AM roguish[m]: thanks, Now I know his nickname....
10:20 AM roguish[m]: He asked in an email for assistance, and I could maybe help him a bit.
10:22 AM roguish[m]: pere: how does he typically communicate to the group?
10:23 AM pere: Email and signal.org.
10:23 AM pere: not sure why, but he do not like irc.
10:25 AM roguish[m]: I found his email address in one of the group emails......
12:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: pere: just add ! and a few ra ra ra's
12:53 PM pere: ra ra ra ! ra ra ra ! ra ra ra ! - lets see what happen
12:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: also check Google Summer of Code
12:59 PM CaptHindsight[m]: this all requires some organization, so if someone just takes on a self imposed leadership role in this area it just might work
01:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: pere: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/best-open-source-programs-for-students-to-participate/
01:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: maybe some others to look into
01:14 PM pere: GSoC would have to be handled by someone who trust Google to handle their personal information.
01:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ups and downs to them all
01:17 PM pere: some sort of organization is needed, not sure what kind is possible here.
01:18 PM pere: so my proposal is to bypass the problem for now and find an existing org that can accept some funding and pass on travel and accomodation money to people joining a linuxcnc (and possibly others) meeting.
01:20 PM pere: I suspect a linuxcnc, freecad, cura, openscad and other fabrication related projects meeting would be great.
01:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i would expect some cooperation between LCNC and FreeCAD
01:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and openscad
01:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: once you hit bottom with reprap stuff all bets are off, in fact I'd wager that you'll get some hate from that group
01:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just an observation for the past 12 years since GRBL, marlin etc took off
01:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I still run into that today when I mention that I can get a new machine up in a day or two using LCNC vs spending weeks months adding to GRBL or similar
01:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I hear: I hate PC's. Mesa is a rip off. I don't want to use LPT, it doesn't exist anymore etc etc
01:26 PM pere: I am happy to not frequent communities like that.
01:28 PM CaptHindsight[m]: i think heads are exploding now that there are $80 boards that have an ARM SOC that runs Linux, LCNC and the GUI along with an onboard micro to do the RT stuff
01:28 PM CaptHindsight[m]: so you can reflash the board with LCNC and Remora and get all the LCNC features
01:29 PM CaptHindsight[m]: some beat their heads enough trying to use GRBL and similar to see why they now want LCNC for their routers, mills and printers
01:38 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the forums posts about howto use low cost hardware for control have nearly 100K views now each
