10:02 AM jepler[m]: https://wiki.debian.org/RaspberryPi4#Using_EFI_Firmware_and_the_regular_Debian_Installer currently, the HDMI connector doesn't work if you boot a pi4 this way.
10:23 AM jepler[m]: oh, whether you use the UEFI thing or not, you can still boot a "standard" debian arm64 kernel on a pi4, not a raspi kernel. But I think you have the "no accelerated video" & "no sound" caveats. No accelerated video would be bad for UIs with live preview, they rely on acceleration..

11:23 AM jepler[m]: seb_kuzminsky: looks like buildbot needs some TLC, due to stretch becoming oldstable I think
11:23 AM jepler[m]: E: Repository 'http://deb.debian.org/debian buster InRelease' changed its 'Suite' value from 'stable' to 'oldstable'
11:23 AM jepler[m]: E: Repository 'http://security.debian.org/debian-security buster/updates InRelease' changed its 'Suite' value from 'stable' to 'oldstable'
11:24 AM jepler[m]: er buster becoming oldstable 😓
11:24 AM Roguish: morning jepler. hey, a guy on the forum says 'pm me' how does one do that? is that 'private message'?
11:25 AM jepler[m]: Roguish: I don't know, I don't think there are private messages on the forum
11:25 AM jepler[m]: but there are always things I don't know
11:25 AM Roguish: don't be so modest.....
11:25 AM Roguish: and his profile does not have an email address.....
11:26 AM Roguish: think i'll just reply with a question...
11:31 AM * jepler[m] uploaded an image: (7KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/pehGoykUOFEaMBZxQBYquQEP/image.png >
11:31 AM jepler[m]: there is a private message setting; we have it turned off.
11:31 AM jepler[m]: I don't know why / if this was a deliberate decision in the past. I don't know what the consequences are when I enable it
11:31 AM jepler[m]: probably spammers sending DMs to users
11:52 AM jepler[m]: Roguish: I've enabled private messages, if you want to try it out. You should be able to access the "messages" drop-down from a user's profile page.
11:52 AM jepler[m]: If you already did a public reply that's fine too.
11:53 AM jepler[m]: JT-Shop: please pipe up if you remember why we disabled private messages. If no abuse is apparent after a couple of days, I'll leave it on and someone can make an announcement about it. Otherwise we'll turn it back off again and try to remember why we did so
11:55 AM linuxcnc-build: build #1644 of 1640.rip-buster-rtpreempt-amd64 is complete: Failure [4failed apt-get-update compile runtests] Build details are at http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/1640.rip-buster-rtpreempt-amd64/builds/1644 blamelist: Jeff Epler <jepler@unpythonic.net>, Sebastian Kuzminsky <seb@highlab.com>, john <bjt128@gmail.com>, Jeff Epler

12:02 PM JT-Shop: jepler[m], I don't remember why pm was off
12:02 PM jepler[m]: I am not sure they are actually sending... but it disallows me sending to myself(?) too
12:02 PM jepler[m]: JT-Shop: I sent you two test messages, did you get either one?
12:03 PM JT-Shop: it might have been because folks were using pm's to try and get personal help
12:03 PM JT-Shop: checking
12:04 PM JT-Shop: I have one pm
12:05 PM jepler[m]: OK
12:05 PM jepler[m]: mind trying to reply to me?
12:06 PM jepler[m]: OK I got your reply as well
12:07 PM JT-Shop: I'd say it's working ok
12:07 PM jepler[m]: I can't figure out how to review or moderate messages from the admin pages, which might be a problem
12:15 PM jepler[m]: anyway, let's give it a try; I think it's the sort of thing people expect in forums but I could be all wet about that.

12:20 PM JT-Shop: yea the first run in the VMC went as planned, now I can relax and let it run
12:21 PM JT-Shop: I think we should mention this in the moderator section
01:41 PM Roguish: jepler[m], hey. thanks. just sent a PM to the guy.
01:45 PM Roguish: andypugh, good evening.. are you around ??? I have a few questions about lincurv comp.
03:06 PM andypugh: Yes, as it happens, I just sat down in the vicinity of the computer
03:08 PM Roguish: good day.
03:10 PM Roguish: I'm using lincurv for my spindle to correct for non-linearity in the pwm to 10v control. works ok. had a problem yesterday when I tested rigid tapping. no spindle reverse....doh.
03:11 PM Roguish: lincurv is max 16 points. ok. used them all to get a good curve fit. now need more to include negative direction.....
03:11 PM Roguish: soooooo, i got the source, changed 16 to 33, compiled and installed.
03:12 PM Roguish: added 16 negative points and zero (33 points total.) WORKS.
03:12 PM Roguish: call it lincurve33.comp
03:15 PM Roguish: question? what is the interpolation between points? is it strictly linear? or polynomial of some power over more than a pair of points?
03:23 PM cradek: Roguish: the lincurve man page explains (man lincurve)
