01:24 PM Thorhian: Have any of the devs seen the news about the new RISCV board? https://beaglev.seeed.cc/
01:31 PM rs[m]: there is a discussion around this board on hacker news: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25761469
03:02 PM andypugh: Is there a realtime patch for RISCV ?
04:16 PM Thorhian: I know the linux kernel itself has been running on RISCV for a while, but somebody will need the hardware to try and compile it with the preempt-rt patch or whichever is available.
04:16 PM andypugh: Indeed.
04:17 PM andypugh: I am trying to decide if I care enough that LinuxCNC doesn’t run on the Pi4 8GB to buy one.
04:17 PM andypugh: I already have more SBCs than I will ever use.
04:18 PM Thorhian: LinuxCNC doesn't run on the 8GB version?! It works fine on all of the other SKUs.
04:18 PM Thorhian: I'm gonna jump to the linux-rt chat real quick.
04:19 PM andypugh: (CHIP, Beaglebone, Udoo, Pine64, NCBox, 5 x Pi)
04:23 PM Thorhian: Hey andy, who are the active devs/contributors for LinuxCNC atm?
05:05 PM andypugh: You can get some idea from https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commits/master
05:06 PM andypugh: By that count, Phillc54, as he is committing several things a day to Plasmac.
05:11 PM JT-Shop: andypugh, over on #pyqt they don't seem to think there is an issue with the Qt thing from last Feburary
05:11 PM andypugh: OK, let’s hope they are right.
05:12 PM JT-Shop: it's been almost a year...
05:12 PM JT-Shop: the way I read it only affects people who want to use Qt with C++ and download from Qt
05:15 PM JT-Shop: well my coal hod has officially became tin (scrap) when the bottom separated while trying to persuade it back to shape after running it over with my truck
05:20 PM andypugh: Surely a man of your skills can re-assemble it?
05:21 PM andypugh: What man has made, man can repair.
05:21 PM andypugh: Interesting that you keep your coal in a hod. Over here we keep coal in a scuttle, and bricks in a hod.
05:24 PM JT-Shop: I just use it for hot ash from the stove
05:24 PM andypugh: <Slight annoyance> A report of a G33 bug on the forum. After some questioning he has edited the Hostmot2 code to emulate and encoder (?) and it doesn’t do the index reset correctly.
05:24 PM andypugh: So it isn’t a G33 bug at all.
05:25 PM JT-Shop: so he created his own bug...
05:25 PM andypugh: Yes. How many days might I have wasted trying to track that one down?
05:25 PM Thorhian: I was on the linux-rt chat on oftc. RiscV isn't supported yet. Not sure if it has even been tested/attempted yet.
05:26 PM JT-Shop: seems a scuttle and a hod are the same https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_scuttle#/media/File:Coal_scuttle_(PSF).jpg
05:26 PM JT-Shop: mine is not that fancy with the top part
05:27 PM JT-Shop: what is riscv?
05:28 PM JT-Shop: brb have to go tuck the pullets in
05:30 PM andypugh: JT-Shop: RISCV is a CPU architecture
05:31 PM andypugh: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RISC-V
05:45 PM JT-Cave: interesting but a bit over my head...
05:49 PM andypugh: It’s just another alternative to x86 or ARM.
05:50 PM JT-Cave: ah so the cpu has to be riscv to use it?
05:52 PM Thorhian: The preempt-rt kernel mod hasn't been ran/ported on RiscV hardware, at least by the people i've talked to that are a part of the project. It would be nice if it did work so people could run stuff like LinuxCNC on the new BeagleV board with reasonable performance.
06:05 PM JT-Cave: back to the G33 bug, if they can reproduce it with a sim it's probably not a linuxcnc bug
07:22 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
