02:07 PM sliptonic: Hi guys. I've got a question: I recently made a stupid mistake and turned on the spindle with my probe loaded. Besides feeling like an idiot, I resigned myself to adding a tool attribute to FreeCAD Path tool definition that would cause an error if a probe/dragknife gets a spindle speed set other than zero.
02:11 PM sliptonic: My question is whether this can or does exist at the control level. Can there be an attribute in the tool table that causes an error at the machine?
02:11 PM sliptonic: I ask because I visited a local shop yesterday that runs Haas and they had pieces of paper taped on machines saying "Never issue M3 with tool n". Clearly something bad happened.
02:29 PM cradek: No there isn't. Can you arrange a switch somehow that disables the spindle in hardware when it's physically loaded? You can't really trust the control to know for sure what tool is in there.
02:29 PM cradek: with mine when the probe is loaded, I turn on the spindle orient switch, which locks the spindle in place (for better probe repeatability), and also prevents the spindle drive from turning on.
