08:17 AM jepler: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/issues/403#issuecomment-628349516 nice message from the machinekit people, good job!
08:21 AM jepler: renedev is the winner at linuxcnc this year
08:23 AM rene_dev_: Thanks! Still working on gtk3 currently.
09:15 AM rmu|w: glarea fix was merged
10:25 AM rene_dev_: nice! now I need to tell the debian pkg maintainers to update the package.
12:18 PM skunkworks: rene_dev_: that seems like it might be hard to do?
12:26 PM pcw_home: skunkworks: do you happen to know the user/password for jeplers rpi4 image?
12:26 PM skunkworks: tux
12:26 PM skunkworks: pcw_home: tux
12:27 PM Tom_L: glad you asked :)
12:27 PM pcw_home: Thanks, I guessed chips
12:27 PM Tom_L: i'll likely need it alter today
12:27 PM skunkworks: well -that is the password - I assume the use is too - but I have never entered the user
12:27 PM Tom_L: that's the wiki
12:27 PM skunkworks: *user
12:29 PM Tom_L: now just waiting for the 'out for delivery' to change status
12:39 PM rmu|w: user is linuxcnc
12:39 PM rmu|w: IIRC
12:40 PM rmu|w: i also wondered about the password, and ended up copying a password hash into /etc/shadow
12:40 PM jepler: The user is linuxcnc
12:40 PM rmu|w: didn't occur to me i could ask ;)
12:49 PM skunkworks: all our machines have linuxcnc as the user...
12:50 PM skunkworks: makes the directory structure /home/linuxcnc/linuxcnc ;)
12:53 PM skunkworks: only slightly confusing sometimes
01:11 PM jepler: I wish raspi-config would help you rename the initial user
04:00 PM JT-Shop: I had to make notes on the procedure for changing from pi to john
04:47 PM Tom_L: hope you kept them
05:34 PM JT-Shop: yea, I have them down in the beer cave if anyone needs them
05:36 PM Tom_L: be nice to have a peek
05:36 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:37 PM JT-Shop: I do it via SSH as that seems faster for me
05:54 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, do i need to load the default sd before jepler's image?
06:19 PM Tom_L: yay it loaded
06:38 PM JT-Cave: Tom_L, https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/cmfCjV2gwg/
06:39 PM Tom_L: thanks
06:39 PM Tom_L: just booted jepler's image
08:53 PM Tom_L: anybody try mesaflash on the rpi4 yet?
08:54 PM Tom_L: libpci ... unable to locate package libpci
08:58 PM Thorhian: Hi jepler, tom told me you have a raspberry pi 4 image for linuxCNC. Are you able to share that or do you have a bandwidth restriction?
09:00 PM Tom_L: ok found the lib..
09:14 PM jepler: Thorhian: It's just extremely alpha quality. https://zaphod.unpythonic.net/pi/image_2020-05-01-linuxcnc-pi4.zip
09:14 PM Tom_L: jepler, i managed to load it and get mesaflash compiled
09:14 PM jepler: nice
09:14 PM Tom_L: need to flash the 7i90 for spi next
09:14 PM Tom_L: lookin for a cable
09:15 PM jepler: I forget the details of connecting 7i90 via spi
09:15 PM jepler: did it involve going to a 26-pin header or something?
09:15 PM Tom_L: peter suggested i use the 2nd flash rom
09:15 PM Tom_L: spi and epp share the same plug
09:16 PM Tom_L: i made a ribbon hopefully it's right
09:16 PM Tom_L: trying to talk him into making some short adapter boards for the rpi4 -> 7i90
09:17 PM Tom_L: would be real handy
09:17 PM Tom_L: they both come into the 26 pin idc yes
09:19 PM Thorhian: Thank you jepler! I understand. I'd be using LinuxCNC 2.9 since I'm on the Pi4 anyways.
09:19 PM Tom_L: it's installed on that image
09:19 PM Tom_L: user: linuxcnc pass: tux
09:19 PM Thorhian: Yep, that's why I figured he said alpha quality.
09:20 PM jepler: it's not an up to date version, probably from December. Building your own or setting it up to download from buildbot is highly recommended. I think those packages are usable now
09:20 PM jepler: seb has sure put in some hours in getting them to build, yay
09:20 PM Tom_L: i was gonna try a dist upgrade
09:20 PM Tom_L: you all have
09:20 PM Tom_L: thanks so much
09:21 PM Tom_L: i just got the pi to test stuff
09:21 PM Thorhian: Is the latest rasbian lite good enough? I'll just have to patch the kernel with preempt-rt first. lol
09:23 PM jepler: Sure, though I think you'll save a lot of time with my image which does have the kernel built and installed
09:24 PM jepler: it's just the linuxcnc program I recommend building yourself
09:24 PM Thorhian: Sounds good.
09:24 PM Tom_L: i bet it takes a while to compile on the rpi
09:25 PM norias: ugh
09:25 PM norias: you can't cross-compile?
09:25 PM Tom_L: oh probably i'm not that savvy
09:25 PM norias: fair
09:26 PM Thorhian: Hmmm. I guess I'll go look around. Got any recomendations. Also, cross compiling is probably an option but I don't have the experience of doing so.
09:35 PM jepler: 35 minutes including docs, which you will probably not choose to build. Maybe half that or less for just the program? http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/1650.rip-buster-rtpreempt-rpi4/builds/206
09:36 PM jepler: it will depend on the details of your configuration. Building with TEMPDIR pointing at /dev/shm instead of /tmp, and using an external USB3.0 HDD both speed it quite a bit. I think, but don't know for certain, that seb did those steps for buildbot
09:36 PM jepler: hum my pi4 seems to be offline ..
09:48 PM Tom_L: :/ webpack is on the other pc which has no epp
10:13 PM Tom_L: i wonder if you have to specify the spi address on the rpi4
10:13 PM Tom_L: does it have 2 spi ports?
10:17 PM Tom_L: pcw_home, you mentioned the linuxcnc driver takes care of that but what about mesaflash?
10:24 PM Tom_L: the cable is as such if you care to verify it:
10:24 PM Tom_L: SPI pinout
10:24 PM Tom_L: 7i90 Rpi4
10:24 PM Tom_L: 11 ----- 23 spi-clk
10:24 PM Tom_L: 13 ----- 19 spi-mosi
10:24 PM Tom_L: 15 ----- 21 spi-miso
10:24 PM Tom_L: 17 ----- 24 spi-ce0
10:24 PM Tom_L: 10 ----- GND
10:31 PM Tom_L: mesaflash returns open: Bad address No 7i90 board found
10:32 PM Tom_L: tried with and without the rpi spi driver enabled
