09:44 AM jepler: some new images up at https://zaphod.unpythonic.net/pi/ -- off to test them for myself
09:48 AM jepler: this is my home system, let me know if it's "fast enough"
09:48 AM jepler: (vs a digitalocean droplet)
10:10 AM skunkworks: jepler: says 10 minutes. Darn good
10:11 AM skunkworks: no glitches running over night.
10:11 AM jepler: it's also unmetered, not that the number of dowloads of the image was hurting my droplet's metered bandwidth either
10:11 AM jepler: good morning!
10:11 AM skunkworks: Good morning!
10:12 AM skunkworks: what is the difference between full and 'normal'
10:14 AM jepler: I don't know! I used "normal" this time
10:16 AM jepler: looks like I failed to add ntp
10:16 AM jepler: the other changes I intended, worked
10:19 AM skunkworks: odd
10:20 AM skunkworks: so far the highest temp I have seen is 53c
10:20 AM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/IMG_20191211_200010.jpg
10:20 AM skunkworks: passive
10:21 AM jepler: I have considered getting one of those enclosure/heatsinks myself but I think I couldn't mount the pi on the 7c80/81 anymore
10:33 AM jepler: anyway, seems like "lite" is no X, which isn't currently a useful configuration for LinuxCNC. full adds "recommended software", https://github.com/RPi-Distro/pi-gen/blob/master/stage5/00-install-extras/00-packages and https://github.com/RPi-Distro/pi-gen/blob/master/stage5/00-install-libreoffice/00-packages
10:33 AM jepler: so some "probably don't want" stuff like minecraft(!)
10:34 AM jepler: but also libreoffice is in stage5
10:37 AM jepler: unfortunately, it looks like stuff debian would call non-free is in the "main" repository of raspbian :(
10:38 AM jepler: (e.g., wolfram-engine is in raspbian main)
10:39 AM jepler: next images will be automatically posted in ~90 minutes if it succeeds. should install ntp and inactivate systemd-timesyncd
10:51 AM jepler: and for the next build after that I'm going to drop the "-full" images, I think they are motsly made of non-free software that is not useful with linuxcnc
11:09 AM jepler: huh 2/5 of builds have failed with these network errors: E: Failed to fetch http://mirror.sjc02.svwh.net/raspbian/raspbian/pool/main/x/xinput/xinput_1.6.2-1_armhf.deb Unable to connect to mirror.sjc02.svwh.net:http: [IP: 72.5.72.15 80]
11:27 AM skunkworks: .000055 following error over night
11:27 AM skunkworks: Boy - I think that was the last thing effecting realtime.. Knock on wood
11:28 AM skunkworks: (well other than youtube)
12:59 PM pcw_home: Oops, master seems to have broken sserial
01:28 PM fjungclaus1 is now known as fjungclaus
01:31 PM skunkworks: oops
01:58 PM skunkworks: maybe if your are running 1080 instead of 4k - you can get buy running youtube.
02:00 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/2020-01-11-134932_1920x1080_scrot.png
02:00 PM skunkworks: (running actual hardware
02:15 PM skunkworks: na - still too much for it. Realtime error - but still - max folling error was .0004"
02:49 PM jepler: pcw_home: I can look into it probably tuesday? not sure what I have for sserial daughtercards though. I have a 7i73, would that count?
02:49 PM jepler: (drat)
02:50 PM jepler: new pi4 image: image_2020-01-11-linuxcnc-pi4.zip
02:50 PM jepler: hopefully fixes ntp, checking now..
02:55 PM jepler: (weird, yesterday's images were also dated 2020-01-11, so the filename is unchanged but the content is new. Datestamp of filename is from UTC or something?)
03:29 PM pcw_home: jepler yes, any sserial board should do
03:30 PM jepler: Fails promptly with an error message or does something more subtle?
03:31 PM pcw_home: multiple error messages at startup
03:31 PM pcw_home: multiples of this:
03:32 PM pcw_home: hm2/hm2_7i95.0: hm2_sserial_waitfor: Timeout (50mS) waiting for addr 5d04 &mask ff00 val 2000
03:32 PM pcw_home: hm2/hm2_7i95.0: DATA addr 5e04 after timeout: 0
03:32 PM pcw_home: hm2/hm2_7i95.0: Timeout trying to read config data in sserial_get_bytes
03:32 PM pcw_home: hm2/hm2_7i95.0: SSerial Parameter read error
03:36 PM pcw_home: the sserial board (a 7I69 in my case) seems to work (but not sure if it read the parameter data)_
09:54 PM skunkworks: https://youtu.be/RDKaFJmB254
10:00 PM jepler: <skunkworks "https://youtu.be/RDKaFJmB254"> I confess I didn't watch the whole thing
10:04 PM skunkworks: if you call it exciting maybe start at 7:37
