11:57 AM skunkworks: I have a dual core here that fails with a make j2 - I should try the fix
12:20 PM skunkworks: yah - 'only' a gig of ram
12:34 PM sync: skunkworks: 1G is not really 'only'
12:34 PM sync: it is only
12:55 PM andypugh: My new laptop at work has 32G of RAM. I note that the new iMac Pro can be oredered with 128GB of RAM.
12:55 PM andypugh: I remember when 32G was a good sized hard-drive.
12:58 PM sync: yeah, although >64G is not all that easy to get in a workstation in 2017
12:59 PM sync: looking for an upgrade as well and everything is either capped at 64G or some server hardware in a workstation case
03:41 PM skunkworks: I say we disable the linuxcnc irc for an hour to let people cool off.
03:46 PM seb_kuzminsky: lol
03:49 PM rene-dev: I just had a long discussion with that guy on another channel :D
03:50 PM rene-dev: about steppers, parports, and how soft-stepping works
03:50 PM skunkworks: sounds like a good channel :)
03:53 PM rene-dev: he didnt belive me that softstepping always has jitter, and that digital drivers account for that by buffering steps
03:55 PM skunkworks: could have shown him this http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20170712_120923.jpg
03:56 PM skunkworks: bit of jitter from soft stepping ;)
03:56 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20170712_130107.jpg
03:57 PM rene-dev: yes
03:57 PM rene-dev: and digital stepper drivers can smooth that in software
03:57 PM skunkworks: do any do that?
03:58 PM skunkworks: yours?
03:58 PM rene-dev: almost all digital ones
03:58 PM rene-dev: mine doesnt do step/dir ;D
03:58 PM skunkworks: really - for some reason I thought it did. (I would never use it that way)
03:59 PM skunkworks: rene-dev, does anyone have your drives for sale?
03:59 PM rene-dev: it can, one guy uses it.
03:59 PM rene-dev: currently not
03:59 PM rene-dev: a new batch is planned
03:59 PM rene-dev: http://www.leadshine.com/UploadFile/Down/LSC_Stepper_Systems_2015.pdf
03:59 PM rene-dev: page 6
03:59 PM rene-dev: and page 5
04:00 PM rene-dev: just think about how that works
04:01 PM andypugh: skunkworks: I am currently looking for a supplier for a batch of stmbl. We are planning for 50. Perhaps that isn’t enough -)
04:02 PM skunkworks: They are a nice size (2kw)
04:02 PM rene-dev: andypugh it probably isnt.
04:02 PM skunkworks: I would buy a few (4 or 5)
04:03 PM andypugh: But 100 is a lot to invest. Especially if I then find I got a part number wrong.
04:03 PM skunkworks: heh
04:03 PM skunkworks: rework station!
04:03 PM andypugh: I have one. It cost £22. I recommend them hightly, you can’t go wrong at that price.
04:04 PM skunkworks: no
04:04 PM rene-dev: andypugh I made 50 without even knowing if they work, because at that point the software wasnt finished :D
04:04 PM skunkworks: that is confidence..
04:04 PM andypugh: That was quite brave, then.
04:05 PM andypugh: How many stmbl have been made so far?
04:05 PM rene-dev: over 100
04:05 PM rene-dev: plus the ones jasen made, I think he made more than 50
04:06 PM andypugh: I wonder how many 8i20 boards there are?
04:07 PM rene-dev: probably as many as there are questions how to run them
04:08 PM andypugh: I can probably get an idea by plugging the LAN cable back into the garage, waking up the lathe and querying the board serial numbers.
04:08 PM andypugh: Or we could just see if pcw_home is willng to say :-)
04:10 PM rene-dev: andypugh I think the batch size is limited by iram available.
04:10 PM rene-dev: I have 50 here
04:10 PM andypugh: 50 IRAM?
04:11 PM rene-dev: yes
04:11 PM andypugh: It’s probably worth me snagging a few too.
04:11 PM rene-dev: I bought 1 more than was available on mouser, so they had to order more, and they can only order 80pcs from IR
04:11 PM andypugh: I am not clear if the ones Mouer have will be the last ones ever (I don’t think so, Infineon are saying n new orders after March, final delivery October)
04:12 PM rene-dev: I dont know
04:15 PM andypugh: Though I guess we could re-form the pins on the ones that RS have
04:15 PM rene-dev: no, they are too short
04:17 PM andypugh: Pity, because they are significantly cheaper
04:20 PM andypugh: Interesting, Arrow are only prepared to sell their entire stock
04:20 PM rene-dev: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s722dp9dfxiqbua/Screenshot%202017-12-16%2023.20.21.png?dl=0
04:22 PM andypugh: Do conrad have them?
04:23 PM rene-dev: probably not
04:27 PM andypugh: If I am going to get 10 drives, I am going to need 10 IRAMs aen’t I? So there is no point not getting them while I can
04:28 PM rene-dev: yes... they get cheaper if you buy more ;D
04:28 PM andypugh: Not fast
04:28 PM andypugh: And I am sad that I can’t get them for £11 that RS want for the -A version
04:31 PM andypugh: Do the 1057 and 1557 also work in the STMBL?
04:32 PM andypugh: (Err, 1067 and 1567)
04:32 PM rene-dev: I never tried, but probably yes
04:32 PM andypugh: Though the 1067 cost more..
09:19 PM seb_kuzminsky: linuxcnc-build: you there?
09:22 PM seb_kuzminsky: linuxcnc-build_: hello?
09:27 PM seb_kuzminsky: linuxcnc-build_: you there?
09:27 PM seb_kuzminsky: sigh
09:28 PM seb_kuzminsky: linuxcnc-build_: hello
09:28 PM linuxcnc-build_: yes?
09:29 PM seb_kuzminsky: linuxcnc-build_: force build --branch=master
09:29 PM linuxcnc-build_: you must provide a Builder, try 'force build [--branch=BRANCH] [--revision=REVISION] [--props=PROP1=VAL1,PROP2=VAL2...] <WHICH> <REASON>'
09:29 PM seb_kuzminsky: linuxcnc-build_: force build --branch=master 0000.checkin
09:29 PM linuxcnc-build_: build #5270 forced
09:29 PM linuxcnc-build_: I'll give a shout when the build finishes
11:13 PM linuxcnc-build_: Hey! build 0000.checkin #5270 is complete: Success [3build successful]
