11:03 AM skunkworks: got a lenovo W530 - (wanted something with a more better video) I am liking it so far!
11:04 AM skunkworks: (from a T520) so 2ng gen 2 core to a 3rd gen quad core
11:04 AM skunkworks: moving up!
11:04 AM skunkworks: 16us - have to see how the onboard nic plays with realtime
11:05 AM skunkworks: Same as the old one - don't mute the speakers and a few other things that cause spikes
11:07 AM hazzy: Lenovos are the bestest! I have 5 of the T series, love them all
11:09 AM hazzy: The old T43 has quite good latency and is great for a portable LCNC machine
11:11 AM skunkworks: I am new to the lenovo - but got the t520 and loved it
11:12 AM skunkworks: like the feel and everything
11:12 AM skunkworks: Plus the t520 was good enough to do testing - actual realtime hardware testing
11:12 AM skunkworks: hazzy have you thought about combining hazzy to linuxcnc prime?
11:14 AM hazzy: linuxcnc prime?
11:14 AM skunkworks: (sorry - so it is part of the main distribution with configs and such)
11:15 AM hazzy: Oh :D
11:15 AM hazzy: I have thought about that, when it is more complete I think that would be good to do
11:15 AM hazzy: then it is all in one place
11:16 AM mozmck: skunkworks: where did you get the W530? That's the exact model I'm looking for - one with 1080p screen
11:17 AM skunkworks: Ebay - it was supposed to have a cracked cover - but didn't. I spent $300 on it - but it has the K2000m video I wanted.
11:17 AM mozmck: I've been watching them on Ebay, but most are going over $300 - some a lot more.
11:18 AM skunkworks: it had the 1600X900 but I swapped it with my 1080 screen from the T520
11:18 AM skunkworks: currently the T520 looks a little sad.. ;)
11:19 AM mozmck: I see. The 1600x900 do go a little cheaper. I have a T520 I got on Ebay for $140 shipped - no OS but everything else was there and it works great.
11:19 AM mozmck: My T520 has a 1600x900 screen though.
11:20 AM skunkworks: I bought a 1080 screen for the T520
11:20 AM skunkworks: off ebay
11:20 AM mozmck: ah, I see. I didn't think they came with them.
11:21 AM skunkworks: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-RGB-LED-LCD-screen-f-Lenovo-thinkpad-T520-laptop-fit-04W1544-42T0765-15-6-/200838548529?hash=item2ec2e90c31:g:EYwAAOxyEoFSVHw9
11:22 AM skunkworks: I don't remember what I paid
11:22 AM skunkworks: I really can't stand anything lower than 1080 now
11:23 AM mozmck: Nice. yeah, I can't either. In fact, I can hardly stand anything less than 1920x1200
11:23 AM skunkworks: heh - I am sure it is like telescopes - don't look through any you cannot afford.
11:24 AM mozmck: I had to downgrade when I finally switched from CRT to LCD screens. My CRT monitors were 2056x1600 (iirc)
11:25 AM skunkworks: heh - I am glad though..
11:34 AM jepler: I don't miss CRTs in the least
11:34 AM * skunkworks to
11:34 AM skunkworks: o
11:51 AM jepler: hopefully I can justify upgrading to a 4k screen soon (I have 2560x1440 on my desktop now)
01:08 PM skunkworks: mozmck, something to remember - you cannot use your t520 power supply for the w530. The 530 has a 170w adaptor.
01:08 PM skunkworks: I had to order 2 more as I don't like having to carry one around with me
01:14 PM mozmck: skunkworks: thanks. How long does the battery last in the W530?
01:15 PM skunkworks: I don't know yet - It came with a small one and I have a 9 cell one coming.
01:16 PM skunkworks: (and the batteries don't swap - they are physically the same - but the bios doesn't like them)
01:35 PM jepler: wow 170W is a lot for a "laptop"
01:36 PM jepler: but W means "really it's a desktop" right?
01:42 PM jepler: rebooting the forum, kernel security update apparently. then joomla 3.8.0 update is next. Worried about that ".0" upgrade :-/
02:05 PM skunkworks: internal nic seems to play well with realtime
02:05 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/testing/Screenshot_2017-09-19_13-29-41.png
02:05 PM skunkworks: Yay - I think I have found my perfect laptop
02:08 PM skunkworks: (yes - 3000% FO) ;)
02:08 PM skunkworks: I think this is a config that was born from peter
02:11 PM CaptHindsight: https://pastebin.ca/3874687 config RTAI_LATENCY_SELF_CALIBRATION_FREQ
02:12 PM CaptHindsight: what user space application has the greatest effect on latency?
02:13 PM CaptHindsight: one could use that task in the RTAI calibration
02:40 PM jepler: Our experience in LinuxCNC is that a 1-second calibration procedure is unlikely to capture the worst latencies, and that for different systems different things lead to bad latencies. Those can include things like "CPU temperature exceeds 77C" or "user pressed mute button". but you probably also wouldn't want to calibrate so that RTAI schedules "early" based on the 99.999% latency, but based on
02:40 PM jepler: the 90% or 99% latency which it will capture just fine "no load"..
02:43 PM jepler: OK, forum upgrade to Joomla 3.8.0 is live, hopefully nothing broke.
02:43 PM * jepler wanders off
02:54 PM skunkworks: jepler, thank you!
02:55 PM MrHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
03:39 PM CaptHindsight: jepler: memfrob mentioned something to me about LCNC using the RTAI calibration routines in 2.8
03:40 PM CaptHindsight: I'm not sure what the plan is.
03:42 PM CaptHindsight: care to elaborate?
04:10 PM seb_kuzm1nsky: CaptHindsight: 2.7 and 2.8 have nearly the same rtai support code in rtapi, both support rtai 3 and 5. neither does any special calibration.
04:10 PM seb_kuzm1nsky is now known as seb_kuzminsky
04:10 PM CaptHindsight: must of heard that wrong, thanks
06:31 PM jepler: something I mentioned will be different in 2.8 is the possibility to use LXRT instead of kernel-space realtime
06:31 PM jepler: so I mentioned that if calibration of userspace was not working that could be a problem
07:17 PM seb_kuzminsky: jepler: oh, right
07:17 PM Tom_L: added andy's orient chart to the wiki menu
