08:29 AM cradek: this machine (my desktop) didn't work at all with rtai
08:29 AM jepler: cradek: is this the one that had extensive video problems with stretch though?
09:33 AM cradek: jepler: yes, when I took "quiet" off the kernel commandline it came up right (!?), and I immediately installed the nvidia driver, and it seems fine now
09:34 AM jepler: cradek: "quiet" making a difference seems weird
09:34 AM cradek: yep
09:35 AM jepler: I assume it was getting the "nouveau" driver and tbh I've never had good luck with it
09:35 AM cradek: yes it was
09:37 AM jepler: all the computers I've booted it on were either qemu or intel video
09:43 AM jepler: andypugh, mozmck, jthornton: since I don't mind the forum too closely, if you see someone talking about my announcement to upgrade the forum's OS, please bring it to my attention
09:44 AM jepler: after the upgrade I'll keep a closer eye on it; when I did a test-upgrade, there were a fair number of broken things that only became apparent after a bit of use, and so I'm sure there are even more such things
09:44 AM jepler: .. it seems that in ubuntu 14.04, the main php package pulled in a lot of modules; in ubuntu 16.04 these are now separate debian packages, and so I had to find a lot of packages one by one to install
10:23 AM skunkworks: stretch and cura seems to work fine with the opensource install.
10:24 AM skunkworks: opensource video driver. With wheezy - I had to install the closed source nvida driver
10:24 AM skunkworks: (it would hardlock the system)
10:26 AM seb_kuzminsky: it's nice when things get better
10:26 AM jepler: sounds like they got worse from wheezy to stretch in this case
10:26 AM jepler: oh wait no I read it again
10:28 AM seb_kuzminsky: it's nice when reading things right makes things better
11:05 AM jepler: skunkworks: any advice for getting good solder joints on the table? my little weller was barely up to melting the existing joints, so I'll be enlisting cradek's skill and 120W iron next..
11:14 AM skunkworks: I spliced into the wires.. I didn't try soldering to the actual bed...
11:14 AM skunkworks: (didn't want to mess up my leveling ;) )
11:16 AM Tom_itx: plenty of flux
11:29 AM jepler: skunkworks: ah well my ship has sailed under that bridge
11:30 AM jepler: in hindsight that's what I should have done too
12:08 PM jepler: skunkworks: did you re-route the Y home switch too?
12:23 PM skunkworks: jepler, no. didn't touch that one
12:32 PM jepler: since it's going to a non-moving switch, I don't think it has the same wear problem as the wires to the bed
