07:32 AM jepler: linuxcnc-build: force build --branch=jepler/2.7/stretch 0000.checkin
07:32 AM linuxcnc-build: build forced [ETA 1h33m40s]
07:32 AM linuxcnc-build: I'll give a shout when the build finishes
07:33 AM jepler: seb_kuzminsky: one thing is, I think a lot of builders are doing a lot of I/O when they're all installing deps in their respective pbuilders..
09:17 AM skunkworks_: jepler, https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/32941-linuxcnc-on-debian-stretch?limitstart=0
09:26 AM IchGucksLive: hi from Germany question isent there a german language packeck on tzhe liveDVD of wheezy
09:26 AM IchGucksLive: pack
09:26 AM IchGucksLive: offcause i mean the DVD that is on the download page of LCNC
09:36 AM jepler: skunkworks_: thanks I guess
09:37 AM jepler: IchGucksLive: I don't know for sure about the wheezy image, but for the stretch image I'm developing I removed the language packs because they accounted for about 40% of the total image size. Languages can be added after installation, of course.
09:40 AM skunkworks_: The ball is rolling!
09:40 AM jepler: I hope the ball is ready
09:41 AM skunkworks_: eh - it can have a few flat sides ;)
10:08 AM jepler: hm there's a technical barrier to the idea of transferring mesaflash into the linuxcnc organization
10:09 AM jepler: which I have realized while drafting an e-mail to micges about the idea
10:09 AM jepler: he can't transfer directly to the organization, because we only permit project admins (not collaborators) to create new repositories in the linuxcnc organization
10:10 AM jepler: he can't transfer it to me (or seb_kuzminsky or cradek) because we have forks of mesaflash already; though we three could transfer it onward if it was transferred to us first
10:11 AM jepler: so I could invite him as a member and change the permission to allow members to create (& therefore transfer) repos
10:14 AM jepler: OK I've changed permissions so he can transfer if that's what he cooses
10:14 AM jepler: chooses
10:19 AM jepler: and e-mailed him
10:21 AM jepler: inviting comments before sending: https://media.unpythonic.net/stretch-announce-draft.txt
11:03 AM cradek: I would recommend NOT making a
11:03 AM cradek: permanent Stretch installation until it can be done without using
11:03 AM cradek: packages from Jessie
11:04 AM cradek: (oops bad paste)
11:04 AM cradek: are you sure you want to make this announcement?
11:05 AM cradek: I predict people will see it as the newest aka greatest, and will not heed your warning
11:05 AM jepler: cradek: I feel my hand is somewhat forced by skunkworks_ linking this on the forum
11:05 AM jepler: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/32941-linuxcnc-on-debian-stretch
11:06 AM cradek: hmm
11:08 AM jepler: but yeah I would have liked to see more testing by "old hands" first, and also wait for the non-frankendistro version to widely publicize it
11:09 AM skunkworks_: the way that thread was - I thought they seemed like 'old hands' and would be good for testing the test live cds...
11:10 AM jepler: skunkworks_: (I am not trying to criticize you or your actions)
11:15 AM skunkworks_: cradek, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOCGQAXV9FY
11:17 AM cradek: that's amazing
11:21 AM jepler: oh it does finally get around to keeping time
11:22 AM jepler: I suppose you "just" put a bunch of coils behind your ferrofluid-filled glass sandwich
11:24 AM cradek: it's a really cool medium, but I find 7-segment numbers to be unpleasing
11:24 AM jepler: I don't think it's quite 7-segment
11:25 AM jepler: but yeah I agree, it goes for a segmented aesthetic in the numerals
12:30 PM skunkworks_: jepler, I don't think you need to post anything yet.
12:30 PM jepler: skunkworks_: okay
12:30 PM jepler: I'll keep this draft for now
12:35 PM skunkworks_: huh - I am a moderator.. (at least that is what my title says..)
12:36 PM skunkworks_: jepler, https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/32941-linuxcnc-on-debian-stretch?start=10#94996
01:03 PM Tom_itx: is RTAI going by the wayside eventually?
01:39 PM jepler: skunkworks_: fwiw I plan to make the next image once at least one of these two things happen: (1) 2.7.10 comes out or (2) I can create a distro that uses no jessie packages, but may use a buildbot version of 2.7
01:40 PM jepler: and one of the things needed for a final release is for both of those dreams to come true
01:59 PM hazzy: So there is going to be 2.7.10 release? Any plans for a 2.8 release in the nearish future?
02:00 PM jepler: hazzy: there is no specific timeline set for the 2.8 release.
02:00 PM jepler: yes, a 2.7.10 release is all but certain
02:01 PM jepler: The best way to help a 2.8 release along if you are a developer is to make pull requests for issues that have been reported to github (i.e., fix bugs)
02:03 PM jepler: seb_kuzminsky: with my new permissions, there's now a v3.2.0 tag on github https://github.com/micges/mesaflash/releases
02:07 PM jepler: seb_kuzminsky: the inline problem seems to have been fixed on the master branch too, at 71635538eecdcde23235edd963e78b14ca086bea
02:07 PM jepler: seb_kuzminsky: so the question becomes whether we want to do a v3.2.1 or a v3.3.0. The new board support makes me think the latter.
02:09 PM jepler: in fact I bet without b60c5a2abeee7c27bfef8e85d4cdf1359805f973 mesaflash is pretty broken
04:52 PM jepler: "ouchModel" http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_412448_3.jpg
05:05 PM JT-Shop: lol
06:08 PM cradek: andypugh: thanks for everything you do, helping people even when it's hard
06:09 PM andypugh: I guess you are referring to “What did you click with the mouse” / “yes” ?
06:10 PM cradek: that whole thread
06:10 PM cradek: ... but you've done that kind of thing a thousand times
06:11 PM andypugh: I am fairly sure he is dong something funny, but he has never said what he is doing, really.
06:12 PM JT-Shop: sometimes it is hard to get them to tell all for some reason
06:12 PM cradek: yes, his messages are not very precise
06:12 PM andypugh: And I am conviced that temperature is nothing to do with it. I can’t even see it being the encoder. His home position is moving.
06:13 PM cradek: that temperature screws up the software is daft, and that it screws up an encoder (and that causes position to shift but not following errors) strikes me as supremely unlikely but not impossible
06:14 PM cradek: but as to what is really going wrong, well he'd have to tell us what he's doing, and what he sees that's surprising and why
08:16 PM jepler: somebody should invent [sponsor name] winter of documentation
08:19 PM jepler: so as predicted the savings on an lwr run are more modest. My final image is 1.1GB. First run: 7m18 elapsed, 18m16 user, 51s system. Second run: 5m17 elapsed, 3m43 user, 32s system
08:20 PM jepler: really afk this time
10:05 PM skunkworks: so far stretch is running everything with the open source video driver.. jessie had issues with cura for sure..
10:23 PM skunkworks: I am liking it so far :)
10:24 PM skunkworks: I must be getting the hang of this linux thing.. Had my favorite programs installed - copied the config files from the backup..
10:25 PM skunkworks: pretty painless
10:26 PM skunkworks: although using hexchat instead of xchat (think that is what I was using before)
10:27 PM skunkworks: xchat doesn't seem to be easily fetched on stretch
10:56 PM Tom_itx: what about hexchat
10:56 PM Tom_itx: what desktop manager does it use by default?
11:04 PM skunkworks: what about hexchat? that is what I am currently using
11:04 PM skunkworks: the livecd that jepler made uses xfce
11:05 PM Tom_itx: aarg
11:05 PM skunkworks: I am trying to like it... :) I was using mate I think
11:05 PM skunkworks: Tom_itx, it is pretty easy to change.
11:05 PM Tom_itx: not if you're not linux savvy :D
11:05 PM Tom_itx: i changed wheezy last night
11:06 PM Tom_itx: but still have xfce still on it
11:06 PM Tom_itx: i put mate on it
11:06 PM skunkworks: I think on my last install on this laptop I had experimented with a half a dozen desktop managers..
11:06 PM Tom_itx: i like mate ok
11:07 PM Tom_itx: is it hard to remove one for another?
11:07 PM Tom_itx: right now it asks which one i want
11:08 PM Tom_itx: had to go thru backports to get one for wheezy
11:08 PM skunkworks: do you have to remove it?
11:08 PM skunkworks: I just kept them all and switch between them :) I feel like... today
11:09 PM skunkworks: ;)
11:09 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
11:09 PM Tom_L: i don't have to but likely will never use xfce
11:11 PM skunkworks: I am pretty flexible... I can get used to most anything
11:12 PM Tom_L: same here but i find that just annoying
