06:42 AM jthornton: seb_kuzminsky: after some thought and some sleep I think joe's work along with other things on the wiki about hardware would fit in the Integrators Information document which I just created, would this go in 2.7? I hope so lol
09:53 AM seb_kuzminsky: jthornton: new docs are welcome in 2.7
09:54 AM seb_kuzminsky: is the Integrators Information doc like the Integrator's Manual? Is one part of the other?
09:59 AM jthornton: seb_kuzminsky: no the Intergrators manual was combined with the user manual to make the documents. The Integrators Information will contain things like Joe's best wiring practices and useful but lost stuff from the wiki like http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Stepper_Formulas
10:05 AM seb_kuzminsky: i see, that sounds good
10:05 AM seb_kuzminsky: it seems clear a lot of our users spend time thinking about things like wiring and step motor sizing, which are not really linuxcnc topics but are close neighbors
10:06 AM jthornton: there is so much "stuff" on the wiki and some really good "stuff" that would fit in that document
10:06 AM seb_kuzminsky: and having those kinds of docs organized and tracked might be a good idea
10:08 AM seb_kuzminsky: yeah, and the stuff on the wiki is hard to find/hard to search, and hard to manage
10:09 AM seb_kuzminsky: rescuing the valuable bits into git-tracked asciidocs would be a big improvement
10:14 AM JT-Shop: yep, I wonder if I can include a spreadsheet into the docs?
10:14 AM JT-Shop: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Mechanical_Spreadsheet
10:55 AM archivist: links to live web tools maybe
10:58 AM archivist: or should they become small apps with the code
11:43 AM JT-Shop: I'd rather have something that is available without internet
11:43 AM JT-Shop: a small app would work, can you make me one?
11:44 AM archivist: I suppose mine work IF you have a local php running :)
11:45 AM JT-Shop: most would not have php running
11:45 AM archivist: I know
11:46 AM archivist: but a program available alongside linuxcnc with the collected wisdom
12:30 PM KGB-linuxcnc: 03John Thornton 052.7 62f2e31 06linuxcnc 10(5 files in 2 dirs) Docs: add integrator information document * 14http://git.linuxcnc.org/?p=linuxcnc.git;a=commitdiff;h=62f2e31
12:53 PM DrippityDrops: any chance there is a way to implement an automatic crashlog uploader? so essentially if say "axis" crashes everything a person would see on the white crashlog output box would be able to upload as a gist? This way we can easily diagnose common problems?
12:54 PM DrippityDrops: this would reduce about 90% of problem tracing for people answering questions in the chatroom and again for anonymous bug tracking
12:54 PM archivist: is cut and paste too hard ?
12:54 PM DrippityDrops: yeah, people dont do it
12:54 PM archivist: they do if asked
12:55 PM DrippityDrops: It just seems other software pieces use anonymous bug tracking for a reason
12:56 PM archivist: many are not net connected as well
12:57 PM DrippityDrops: just a thought
12:58 PM archivist: often creates more bugs
12:58 PM Gene939: Winner winner chicken dinner!
12:59 PM archivist: like the sql server fulltext delay bug, it phoned home, so an offline box timed out and was slow
12:59 PM Gene939: Anyone have a cheaper source for one of these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-INCH-SUPER-LOCK-VISE-FOR-NC-CNC-MACHINES-3900-0171-/351636268292?hash=item51df27a504:g:aOQAAOSw-zxWomkl
01:00 PM Gene939: whoop... wrong irc channel.... you guys have a good time programming...

04:48 PM skunkworks_: pcw_home, that firmware worked great!
04:48 PM skunkworks_: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/mach-software-artsoft-software-/334360-odd-g01-behavior-mach3-4.html#post2034768
05:33 PM andypugh: Does anyone know a solution for this message during ./configure?
05:33 PM andypugh: checking libgl1-mesa-dri workaround... test for libgl1-mesa-dri workaround failed, please file a bug
05:34 PM jepler: andypugh: what platform are you on?
05:34 PM andypugh: Linux TestBoard 3.2.0-4-rt-686-pae #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 3.2.86-1 i686 GNU/Linux
05:35 PM jepler: that's debian wheezy?
05:35 PM andypugh: Yes
05:35 PM jepler: pastebin the output of running that script please
05:35 PM jepler: scripts/test-libgl-bug.sh
05:36 PM andypugh: Live-CD install changed to preempt-rt kernel to use hm2_eth
05:38 PM jepler: if that system has never built linuxcnc before my first guess is it's missing some dev package and configure isn't catching it before trying to compile this test
05:39 PM jepler: specifically, running it with shell debugging on my be better: bash -x scripts/test-libgl-bug.sh
05:39 PM jepler: my=may
05:39 PM andypugh: Are you sure about that path?
05:39 PM jepler: if you are in src/ then it is ../scripts/ but otherwise yes
05:40 PM jepler: if you are in src/ then it is ../scripts/ but otherwise yesjepler@rat:~/src/linuxcnc/2.7$ bash -x scripts/test-libgl-bug.sh
05:41 PM jepler: what branch are you building?
05:41 PM jepler: if you changed branches, e.g., from 2.7 to master, you might need to rebuild configure with autogen.sh in src/
05:43 PM andypugh: master
05:43 PM jepler: that script is gone in master
05:44 PM andypugh: That would partially explain the test failing
05:44 PM jepler: 8380c9e65e build: drop PRELOAD_WORKAROUND
05:44 PM jepler: so if you've somehow mixed a configure that is looking for it with a tree that has deleted the workaround script, that would do it
05:45 PM jepler: in src, ./autogen.sh and then ./configure again
05:45 PM jepler: good luck, I have to leave in order to be only 5 minutes late to a thing
05:46 PM andypugh: Worked that time. Must have been fixed by ./autogen.sh
05:48 PM andypugh: I had previously attempted to run autogen, but at that point the repo was mounted read-only.
05:48 PM andypugh: Looks like I forgot to re-do it after fixing the mount problem
05:53 PM skunkworks_: btw - I setup a 7i92 today. Wrote a firmware - setup the nic. It was painless. great work on that!
06:42 PM Tom_itx: good stuff
06:42 PM Tom_itx: sry i couldn't help you on the bitfile
06:47 PM skunkworks_: Tom_itx, no problem!
06:52 PM seb_kuzminsky: whee, the beaglebone pru is turning my stepper
06:55 PM skunkworks_: seb_kuzminsky, did you pull it from machinekit?
06:56 PM seb_kuzminsky: no, it's a new implementation
06:57 PM skunkworks_: nice!
06:58 PM seb_kuzminsky: i should probably look at theirs though and see what they did
06:58 PM skunkworks_: based on the hm2 stuff?
07:01 PM seb_kuzminsky: not yet...
07:01 PM seb_kuzminsky: my original goal was to implement hm2 on the pru, but i'm nowhere near that yet
07:01 PM seb_kuzminsky: i just wrote a tiny stepgen and gpio firmware so far
07:02 PM seb_kuzminsky: and there's no HAL driver for it yet
07:02 PM seb_kuzminsky: so.. nothing useful yet
07:02 PM JT-Shop: did the buildbot get happy yet?
07:02 PM seb_kuzminsky: JT-Shop: yep, it's green now, and your new manual is in the latest linuxcnc-doc-en.deb
07:02 PM seb_kuzminsky: bbl
07:02 PM JT-Shop: cool
07:04 PM andypugh: JT-Shop: http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Products/Connectors/connectors.html
07:04 PM andypugh: Finally found a source for those connectors the bike manufacturers use
07:05 PM JT-Shop: ah yea the waterproof connectors
07:05 PM andypugh: Including the “12 Position 090 MT Connector” which has gone green and nasty on my R1
07:06 PM andypugh: JT-Shop: Not just them, the unsealed ones too
07:06 PM andypugh: Exactly half-way down this page: http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Products/Connectors/090_Connectors/090_connectors.html
07:06 PM JT-Shop: what do you need those for?
07:07 PM andypugh: Because one has gone green and nasty on my R1, which stopped the headlights working
07:07 PM JT-Shop: ride by moonlight?
07:08 PM * JT-Shop gets back to the cocina to check the wings
07:08 PM andypugh: Bizarrely headlights are some sort of nanny-state health-and-safety-gone-mad legal requirement.
07:08 PM cradek: my 80s yamaha grew more and more connectors with wires wirenutted around them as the years went on
07:08 PM cradek: terrible connectors
07:08 PM JT-Shop: my spyder is full of nanny
07:08 PM andypugh: I think they tend to under-size them.
07:09 PM andypugh: A single 2.8mm pin to carrly all the lighting load, for example.
07:10 PM andypugh: But, they have worked for 13 years, so a new set of crimps should see the bike to the end its life.
07:26 PM skunkworks_: I stared at encoder.c and decided I might not be up to adding Dir for the B input. (so in counter mode - it would count up and down like the hostmot encoder counter)

07:56 PM jepler: 18:38:50 <andypugh> I think they tend to under-size them.
07:56 PM jepler: I came back from being AFK and these two lines are what I read first and boy was I puzzled

08:49 PM jepler: standalone reproduce of rtai lxrt seteuid hard lock: https://emergent.unpythonic.net/files/sandbox/threadtest.cc
08:50 PM jepler: fails (hard locks) consistently on Linux rat 3.18.0-1-rtai-amd64 + rtai 5.0~test2.2016.05.12.37.g1d358aa
09:09 PM cradek: jepler: yay/ugh
09:22 PM jepler: it's enough to make me think we should disable uspace+rtai mode in linuxcnc unless specifically requested
09:22 PM jepler: right now we auto-enable it because it should be fully awesome
09:22 PM jepler: but instead it's not even partially awesome
09:22 PM jepler: (this only affects uspace, probably)
09:23 PM seb_kuzminsky: since you can repro it with a small c program, on a recent-ish rtai.org build, maybe a bug report to the rtai mailing list would be helpful
09:23 PM jepler: is that "recent-ish"? I have no perspective
09:27 PM jepler: anyway, yes, I've fired a message off into the ether
09:27 PM seb_kuzminsky: there's not been many commits to volcano since then, i believe
09:28 PM seb_kuzminsky: i've got my rtai build system all primed, i can furnish you with debs that correspond to just a few days ago
09:30 PM seb_kuzminsky: oh, actually i built them already
09:31 PM seb_kuzminsky: deb http://highlab.com/~seb/linuxcnc jessie main
09:31 PM seb_kuzminsky: amd64 and i386 (686-pae) debs for linux-image and rtai-modules, from 2017 April 12
09:32 PM jepler: is there an unpushed merge of vulcano-debs branch with rtai.org-vulcano branch?
09:34 PM seb_kuzminsky: oops, an unpushed rebase, hold on
09:35 PM jepler: looks like I can get linux-image-4.1.0-1-rtai-amd64 amd64 4.1.18-3linuxcnc
09:35 PM jepler: and rtai-modules-4.1.0-1 5.0~test2.2017.04.12.23.g001dc2e
09:37 PM seb_kuzminsky: yeah, those are the new ones
09:37 PM seb_kuzminsky: i just pushed the rebased vulcano-debs
09:37 PM jepler: OK
09:37 PM seb_kuzminsky: the old one's available as vulcano-debs-2016-05-12
09:38 PM seb_kuzminsky: i tested this new combination on an i386 VM and it failed just like the 2016-05-16 version did
09:38 PM jepler: but that's nothing to do with "uspace"
09:39 PM seb_kuzminsky: right
09:39 PM jepler: that's failing with good old kernel-model rtapi right?
09:39 PM jepler: right
09:39 PM seb_kuzminsky: yes
09:40 PM seb_kuzminsky: so it looks like there are at least two bugs in rtai5-test
09:41 PM seb_kuzminsky: bbl
09:41 PM jepler: any bets before I announce my results?
09:45 PM jepler: hard lock of course
10:17 PM jepler: >
10:17 PM jepler: It has been said that Documentation/memory-barriers.txt can be used to frighten small children, and perhaps this is true. But even if it is true, it is woefully inefficient. After all, there is a huge number of children in this world, so a correspondingly huge amount of time and effort would be required in order to read it to them all.
