12:07 AM linuxcnc-build: Hey! build 0000.checkin #4775 is complete: Success [3build successful]
12:08 AM linuxcnc-build: Build details are at http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/builders/0000.checkin/builds/4775
11:05 AM jepler: seems like we're going to have to figure out what it means to be a linuxcnc.org project, if we're going to adopt another one to the github linuxcnc organization
11:05 AM jepler: it gets perilously close to having governance, but hopefully we can have some mere guidelines instead
11:10 AM seb_kuzminsky: i'm worried that moving a repo into the linuxcnc organization will make people think we're going to work on it
11:12 AM seb_kuzminsky: on th eother hand, release management and packaging & distribution seems to be the missing piece in a lot of open source projects, and that's something we're pretty good at, so maybe we should do it for more projects
11:14 AM jepler: yeah, you might think it means it would go on the linuxcnc.org deb repository or install images. that's why it might be good to define what it means
11:15 AM seb_kuzminsky: i agree
11:15 AM jepler: does it mean they get a section on wlo? dedicated group(s) on flo?
11:16 AM seb_kuzminsky: those would be super useful things to offer other projects, but i'm not at all confident i have the bandwidth
11:16 AM jepler: or buildbot, speaking of scarce resources
11:16 AM seb_kuzminsky: yeah
11:19 AM seb_kuzminsky: i think the world would benefit from a "launchpad for open-source cad/cam/mc" type of service, so i'm motivated to try to find a way to make that happen
11:19 AM jepler: I also feel like that would be good, but I don't have the tuits to work on it
11:19 AM seb_kuzminsky: yeah
11:19 AM seb_kuzminsky: i feel like i can barely keep up with the infrastructure for *one* project
11:20 AM seb_kuzminsky: and i know a user or two and a developer or two who would say i'm failing at even that...
11:20 AM jepler: we need young firebrands
11:20 AM jepler: who make all the right decisions
11:20 AM seb_kuzminsky: or old retired graybeards
11:20 AM seb_kuzminsky: or both
11:24 AM seb_kuzminsky: i can muster the energy to build debs of other folks packages (like mesaflash, ttt, f-engrave, etc) and put them in our deb archive (if "we" decide we want them there)
01:22 PM seb_kuzminsky: i think Marius Alksnys' problem comes from his use of [RS274NGC]ON_ABORT_COMMAND (he sent me his config in private email)
01:22 PM seb_kuzminsky: bbl
04:50 PM JT-Shop: I've even managed to build and package debs :)
04:51 PM JT-Shop: the only thing left for me is to figure out how to sign them
05:09 PM jepler: the 3d printer works better when you put filament in it
05:12 PM KimK_laptop: What is Touchy trying to tell me if, after estop-reset/machine-on/home-all is done OK, I press any other tab (say "auto", to pick a program), and Touchy drops machine on? (Maybe e-stop too, I forgot to look.)
05:13 PM KimK_laptop: Same for MDI, etc.
05:14 PM KimK_laptop: Axis works OK in the same maachine.
05:15 PM KimK_laptop: baaa
05:21 PM seb_kuzminsky: KimK_laptop: which linuxcnc version is this? try turning up [EMC]DEBUG all the way and pasting the debug output somewhere
05:27 PM KimK_laptop: Hi Seb. It's 2.7.8 from our currently posted ISO plus normal updates. OK, thanks, will try debug and report. No network on that machine, I'll paste it to USB-flash and bring it back here. Configs too. If there's a Touchy Sim on the menu, I'll try that also. Back in a while.
05:46 PM cradek: kinematics?
05:47 PM cradek: [wild guess] your kins are wrong, forward and inverse don't match, and you're getting a following error
05:47 PM cradek: but I think it would show the ferror on the bottom of the touchy screen
05:50 PM JT-Shop2: or a loose connection in your estop...
05:55 PM seb_kuzminsky: and axis wouldn't accept it
05:58 PM JT-Shop2: missed the axis works ok
06:36 PM kwallace1: I found something with G76 that hasn't bothered me until now. I have a visual aid here: http://wallacecompany.com/tmp/Screenshot_g76-3c.png
06:36 PM kwallace1: I created normal external thread, see 1. Then thought I want to change to a back mount tool, so I add - to the Z start, see 2, but this is wrong because it will make an internal thread. I had to make I positive, see 3.
06:36 PM kwallace1: The thing is how do I describe this to a normal lathe user in a manual. The LinuxCNC manual says that + I is internal, and - I is external, but this isn't really true.
06:36 PM kwallace1: Anyone have thoughts on this?
07:05 PM cradek: "If you're using negative coordinates for a back mount tool or similar, signs can be confusing, so be careful and test in air first."
07:05 PM cradek: I wouldn't explain too much, it'll just be more confusing for the usual cases
07:11 PM kwallace1: But I need to make a formal manual, plus I need to add a taper feature which also needs a consistent intuitive method.
07:12 PM cradek: I wasn't being snarky (on purpose) - that's actually what I think is appropriate in a manual
07:12 PM cradek: if you're cutting on the back of a workpiece in M4 you've already thought through your negative X and it's going to feel a lot like cutting inside something in M3
07:13 PM kwallace1: Typically, we use negative diameters to denote back tooling rather than moving a tool to negative space.
07:13 PM cradek: yeah, seems like that's what you have to do
07:14 PM cradek: if you thread on the back in M4 you end up with a left hand thread too don't you? or do you mount it upside-down?
07:15 PM kwallace1: Typically, the tools are face down.
07:15 PM cradek: ah so still M3
07:17 PM kwallace1: But we need to be able to do everything. front/back tooling, diam/radius mode, moves into negative space, right/left threads... then my head blows up.
07:20 PM kwallace1: I can sort of make everything work in the conversational screen, but I think the G command should work as well and be intuitive. This may be why Fanuc codes are two line commands.
07:32 PM KimK_laptop: Hi kwallace1, sorry to interrupt. Would it be OK with you if I post four lines here? Because I said I would earlier, then I need to leave for a bit, back after while. Advice appreciated as always. Thanks!
07:34 PM KimK_laptop: (I'll take that for a yes...)
07:34 PM KimK_laptop: OK here's the first returns: Screenshot: https://ibin.co/3Ce1PRg6viGi.png -- Terminal copy/paste: http://pastebin.ca/3768632
07:35 PM KimK_laptop: Lines 85 & 86 might be of interest: (85) AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'set_sensitive' (86) Shutting down and cleaning up LinuxCNC..
07:35 PM KimK_laptop: Configs at: http://filebin.ca/3CeGTI16vkTc/linuxcnc-test-20170216_184603.tar.gz
07:35 PM KimK_laptop: What happened: Touchy, ESR/M-on/Home-all, "auto" tab (browsed up-down a page or two), "startup" tab, WTH: estop-off, machine-off?
07:36 PM kwallace1: Oops, someone was talking to me, so have at it.
07:36 PM KimK_laptop: Thanks gents, thanks kwallace1! (I'll think about your problem while I'm away.)
07:42 PM skunkworks_: KimK_laptop, sorry I have not had time to look at it. Seem sot be a touchy problem?
11:18 PM jepler: src/po/zh_CN.po:#~ "Check this box to make KNewsTicker slow the scrolling down when you move "
11:18 PM jepler: hm somebody should figure out whether this .po file is even for linuxcnc
