[13:18:10] <JT-MOBILE> zlog log
[15:31:39] <mozmck> I've noticed that dpkg-shlibdeps warns of a bunch of symbols not found when building packages: http://pastie.org/10239082
[15:31:59] <mozmck> I wonder if that is something to worry about?
[15:37:44] <pcw_home> _Z14STRAIGHT_PROBEidddddddddh ?
[15:38:48] <mozmck> what do the d's on the end mean?
[15:40:11] <mozmck> Everything seems to work as far as I've seen, so I'm not sure if those warnings are valid.
[18:34:28] <kwallace> I got some Fanuc manual pulse generators from eBay. They cleaned up very well. On the back are four terminals: +5V, 0V, A, and B. Would anyone happen to know if A and B source or sink and anything else I may need to know to hook these up? http://www.ebay.com/itm/141682548045
[18:38:41] <kwallace> In case it might be of interest (today's work at bottom): http://www.wallacecompany.com/machine_shop/fire_master_h1818/fire_master_index.html
[18:39:31] <cradek> kwallace: I had never thought about it - have always just hooked them up like a single-ended (ttl?) encoder
[18:51:28] <kwallace_shop> cradek, I'm down in the shop now. I'm hooking up an oscilloscope to see what I can find out.
[19:16:32] <Roguish> kwallace_shop: I have some old machine pulse generators with similar terminals. I use them like single ended encoders, too.
[19:19:19] <Roguish> thru a mesa 5i20. define another encoder.
[19:56:18] <kwallace> After scoping the first one, I thought it might be broken. The A and B pulses are very similar with shorter High periods and offset by very little. I scoped the other two and got the same thing. I suspect they want some dead time while on a mark and have the pulses within the between marks time.
[19:57:22] <kwallace> A ____|--|____
[19:57:40] <kwallace> B ___|--|_____
[19:58:16] <kwallace> I expected a 50% duty.
[20:00:55] <Tom_itx> i would have too
[20:01:23] <Tom_itx> with 90 deg phase shift
[20:11:42] <cradek> I'm not too surprised they want to positively go one full cycle per detent, and be on a predictable phase when on any detent
[20:12:39] <Tom_itx> my chinese MPG is like that but it's got 50% duty pulses
[20:12:40] <cradek> the detents might be influencing the way the dial actually turns, too, if you're turning it by hand
[20:13:06] <Tom_itx> it has some effect on it
[20:14:23] <Tom_itx> cradek were you looking for an MPG a while back?
[20:15:29] <cradek> possibly, but I'm happy enough with what I rigged up
[20:16:02] <Tom_itx> the ones sold for around 60 bux you can find on ebay for $17... same MPG
[20:16:18] <Tom_itx> i had to replace one and tried the cheap route..
[20:16:23] <Tom_itx> was the exact same MPG
[20:16:52] <cradek> that's good to know
[20:17:13] <Tom_itx> i was hesitant at first
[20:28:28] <Tom_itx> http://www.ebay.com/itm/100PPR-6-Terminal-Eletronic-Hand-Wheel-Manual-Pulse-Encoder-Generator-CNC-Lathe/251710166569?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D31482%26meid%3Dee3ccb7afc294f559aeddc188c1e6381%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D251710166569
[20:28:32] <Tom_itx> that's one i got
[20:34:56] <kwallace> Those are a little small for my taste, 3.5" dia would be better for me.
[20:36:15] <Tom_itx> they make a bigger one
[20:36:25] <Tom_itx> i didn't want it for my pendant
[20:36:42] <Tom_itx> 60 & 80mm diameter iirc
