[10:37:17] <KGB-linuxcnc> 03Sebastian Kuzminsky 052.7 6006ff4 06linuxcnc 10src/emc/usr_intf/axis/scripts/axis.py axis: let the user confirm before closing the window * 14http://git.linuxcnc.org/?p=linuxcnc.git;a=commitdiff;h=6006ff4
[10:37:23] <seb_kuzminsky> good kgb
[11:54:53] <skunkworks> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mesa-Electronics-7i49-resolver-board-linux-CNC-retrofit-mill-lathe-mach-3-/251571733275?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a92d8031b
[11:55:01] <skunkworks> *mach3
[11:55:04] <skunkworks> :)
[11:58:53] <pcw_home> Good luck with Mach3...
[12:00:30] <pcw_home> Hey theres a 4I30 our first quadrature card encoder card
[12:00:32] <pcw_home> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mesa-Electronics-PC104-PC-104-4I30-Quadrature-Counter-/200142017350?pt=BI_Control_Systems_PLCs&hash=item2e9964d346
[12:00:39] <archivist> report to fleabay for bad description :)
[12:24:57] <skunkworks> That is a really good price - but I would rather pay peter..
[12:29:45] <seb_kuzminsky> http://hobbycam.org/
[12:31:32] <archivist> ew Shapeoko/GRBL support.
[12:34:17] <seb_kuzminsky> i've convinced myself that svg is preferable over dxf for a cad->cam format
[12:44:07] <mozmck> why is that?
[12:44:29] <mozmck> there's not 20 versions of the format?
[12:55:56] <seb_kuzminsky> yeah, that's it
[12:56:13] <seb_kuzminsky> it's an open spec
[12:56:27] <archivist> and about 20 versions of dxf
[12:57:04] <seb_kuzminsky> dxf seems like the way things used to be in the bad old days
[12:58:34] <archivist> I wrote a script to join up the line ends in a dxf so a laser could understand the file
[12:59:04] <archivist> floats dontya just luvem
[12:59:37] <seb_kuzminsky> heh
[13:00:37] <archivist> actually they are ints derived from floats hence the gaps iirc
[13:00:50] <archivist> was many years ago
[13:06:04] <seb_kuzminsky> http://www.smbc-comics.com/?id=2999
[14:15:58] <zeeshan> http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHARS-CAT40-ER32-COLLET-CHUCKS-4-Pc-CHUCKS-5-Pc-COLLETS-PACKAGE-NEW-/350493925879?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item519b10e1f7
[14:16:01] <zeeshan> im torn between these
[14:16:01] <zeeshan> or
[14:16:19] <zeeshan> http://www.ebay.com/itm/111417170309?_trksid=p2060778.m2763.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
[14:16:22] <zeeshan> he wants 50 bux each
[14:47:33] <cradek> sure you don't want ER40?
[14:48:49] <cradek> http://www.maritool.com/Tool-Holders-CAT40-ER-Collet-Chucks/c23_25_42/p477/CAT40-ER32-1.85-COLLET-CHUCK-TOOL-HOLDER/product_info.html
[14:48:58] <cradek> wow maritool has a VERY low stickout version
[14:49:41] <zeeshan> yea
[14:49:46] <zeeshan> thats why i was like O_O
[14:50:01] <zeeshan> er40 might be too big to fit in the parts i do
[14:50:13] <cradek> I'm super happy with everything I've got from maritool
[14:50:14] <zeeshan> i can see myself buying er16 and er40 in the future
[14:50:37] <cradek> ER40 happily spans 1/8" to 1" shanks
[14:50:51] <zeeshan> yes, but you'll need to stick out the tool more
[14:50:57] <zeeshan> to get into tight areas
[14:51:27] <cradek> yeah I suppose the nuts are slightly bigger, but only 4mm in radius
[14:51:32] <cradek> ish
[14:51:49] <cradek> doesn't seem like much difference
[14:52:24] <cradek> I sometimes use 1" end mills with the spindle cranked up all the way to cut wood
[14:52:45] <cradek> but roughing of aluminum is always 3/4
[14:52:51] <zeeshan> do you own any end mill holders from mari?
[14:52:58] <cradek> yes quite a few
[14:53:04] <zeeshan> do they say made in usa on them?
[14:53:09] <zeeshan> i know he carries both taiwanese
[14:53:11] <cradek> I don't remember, sorry
[14:53:19] <cradek> call and ask him
[14:53:19] <zeeshan> i dont sere any markings on them in the pics
[14:54:04] <cradek> when I buy used tooling on ebay I always put new maritool retention knobs on
[14:54:15] <zeeshan> yea thats something i ordered directly from mari
[14:54:20] <zeeshan> hes the only one that makes this conversion pull stud
[15:15:02] <seb_kuzminsky> /win 6
[15:15:04] <seb_kuzminsky> oops
[15:15:07] <PetefromTn_> wow...I must say that ER40 mari holder is compact looking. I have ER32 and ER20 holders here as well as endmill holders etc etc but I always thought the ER40's I have used were massive. I sometimes find even the ER32 holders nutz to be getting tight especially when there are strap clamps involved etc... I have also seen some of the flush holders where the nut is actually inside the face of the holder. Lots of tooling
[15:15:59] <PCW> we are changing over to a better driver chip (intersil) but the 7I85s in stock are still using DS34C87s so dont have full 5V output swing
[15:17:13] <PCW> ack!
[15:17:30] <mozmck> disclosing secrets!!!
[15:17:57] <seb_kuzminsky> everyones typing the wrong things this afternoon
[15:18:12] * seb_kuzminsky slowly lifts fingers form keyboard
[15:18:55] <zeeshan> lol
[15:19:12] <PCW> :-)
[15:21:48] <mozmck> PCW: we discussed the ability to have an "if pin exists" function for HAL files, and it was mentioned that there is HALTCL. I found that the /linuxcnc-dev/lib/hallib/xhc-hb04.tcl file has a function "pin_exists" which looks like it does just what we were talking about.
[15:22:55] <PCW> Yeah I need to learn about tcl hal files
[15:24:07] <mozmck> guess I need to learn some tcl myself. I'll know just enough of about 20 languages I won't be able to get anything to work!
[15:28:06] <PCW> :-)
[15:32:39] <PCW> all the languages I know are obsolete
[15:37:10] <PetefromTn_> I can sorta speak english.....:0
[15:38:51] <mozmck> that's almost obsolete...
[15:39:15] <cradek> so are fragile meat-based robots
[15:40:06] <PetefromTn_> hey speak for yourself heh
[15:41:36] <zeeshan> man
[15:44:03] <mozmck> I saw that ms is offering free "upgrades" to win10 to all win7 & 8 users :)
[15:44:33] <mozmck> the catch? win10 is subscription based
[15:44:57] <cradek> among the catches
[15:45:12] <mozmck> yeah
[15:45:20] <cradek> I recently learned a coworker subscribes to microsoft office too
[15:45:45] <cradek> I think a lot of people pay monthly fees for things I don't
[15:45:51] <mozmck> I heard that went subscription - don't know when?
[15:45:58] <PetefromTn_> I use that open office..
[15:46:11] <cradek> my dad pays a monthly subscription to his car so he gets an email when it needs an oil change
[15:46:56] <PetefromTn_> tell you what you can pay me a montly subscription and I will call ya and let you know to change your oil ;)
[15:47:06] <mozmck> I prefer to use my memory so I don't lose it all
[15:47:24] <mozmck> What does his car do with the money?
[15:48:37] <cradek> I suppose it's part of onstar or a related service
[15:49:17] <cradek> I bet I use my car's cassette player more than he uses his car's onstar :-)
[15:49:36] <PetefromTn_> holy smoke you still have a cassette player?
[15:49:44] <PetefromTn_> and it still works?
[15:50:02] <cradek> mine's from the short time when cars had both cassette and cd players, and sure they both work
[15:50:16] <PetefromTn_> ;)
[15:50:20] <mozmck> haha! I bought a studio cassette deck and copied most of mine into the computer.
[15:50:21] <cradek> I had to take it apart to clean the tape heads once in the last decade or so
[15:50:42] <cradek> mozmck: keep the tapes, they'll last longer (unless you also backup the digitals to tape)
[15:51:03] <cradek> which would be pretty funny actually
[15:51:44] <mozmck> heh, that could be. I just wanted to be able to play them more easily. Don't listen to much of anything anyways.
[15:52:18] <cradek> yeah digitizing as a way to get better access works great
[15:53:04] <PetefromTn_> somehow I find it ironic that guys who can make a CNC milling center get up and dance from scratch listen to cassette tapes....
[15:53:43] <mozmck> I've done a number of records as well. run it through a scratch and pop filter...
[15:54:18] <mozmck> PetefromTn_: if I could I'd be driving a steam car :)
[15:54:35] <PetefromTn_> why can't ya?
[15:54:54] <mozmck> I do have a small steam engine in the shop, and several belt driven machine tools, some line shaft stuff, and no time :(
[15:55:00] <mozmck> don't have one!
[15:55:04] <cradek> being good at retrofitting cnc machines and driving older cars might both come from the same preference of not discarding what can be repaired
[15:55:16] <PetefromTn_> well you have a CNC right....BUILD ONE!!
[15:55:44] <PetefromTn_> cradek This is true.... I am of the same bent apparently I hate to let anything useful go...
[15:56:30] <PetefromTn_> there is also something to be said for getting a good deal on something and making it better than it was.
[15:56:36] <cradek> absolutely
[15:56:52] <mozmck> I've gotten pretty modern with cars in the last few years. Had an '83 diesel mercedes for many years, but now have an '02 honda minivan...
[15:58:05] <PetefromTn_> I drive a 1993 Fullsize Ford Bronco......because I want to LOL. It's much like the Cincinatti Arrow 500 I am building. an oldie but a goodie..
[15:58:50] <mozmck> my "new" truck is a '96 diesel ford f350, sold my old '85 diesel
[15:59:11] <PetefromTn_> that is the same body style as mine.
[15:59:17] <PetefromTn_> what color is your interior?
[15:59:42] <mozmck> grey
[16:00:14] <mozmck> red out, beat up a bit but runs great! over 400,000 miles.
[16:00:27] <PetefromTn_> nice. mine is the dark grey and I actually need a new instrument cluster surround piece it has a little crack in it and because it is the dark grey interior somehow it is different
[16:02:16] <mozmck> I think mine is light grey. The whole interior is pretty bad - I hate all that plastic they use.
[16:03:04] <PetefromTn_> I got lucky mine is really nice inside. the only problem is this little crack and actually the speaker metal grille cover on the passenger door needs to be glued back on.
[16:10:09] <PetefromTn_> http://i.imgur.com/P1H7WKp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wUn5MgF.jpg this is when I first bought it a couple months ago. you can see the instrument cluser surround piece is what I need to replace.
[16:13:24] <cradek> wow that's a survivor
[16:13:34] <PetefromTn_> yeah I thought so... thanks!
[16:14:57] <PetefromTn_> not bad for $2k heh
[16:15:07] <cradek> wow
[16:15:16] <cradek> does the 4wd work?
[16:15:29] <cradek> has the 351?
[16:16:05] <Tom_itx> did some old lady drive that on sunday?
[16:16:49] <PetefromTn_> yeah it is the 351 has full options 4x4 works good so far that I have tried it.
[16:17:57] <PetefromTn_> http://i.imgur.com/OpAG3N1.jpg http://i.imgur.com/EhwNLF7.jpg
[16:19:10] <PetefromTn_> it's not perfect tho. has a couple issues
[16:19:25] <PetefromTn_> I bought some new door pins and bushings to replace the worn ones
[16:19:41] <PetefromTn_> and the fuel tank is kinda rusty needs replaced.
[16:20:13] <Tom_itx> if you fill those weekly they'll never rust out
[16:20:20] <PetefromTn_> but overall it is a pretty nice truck I am very pleased with. I get compliments on it all the time LOL..
[16:20:36] <PetefromTn_> actually from what I understand they are known for that.
[16:20:58] <PetefromTn_> they sell some stainless ones I guess or coated ones that are supposed to last longer
[16:21:06] <PetefromTn_> I need to ante up and buy one.
[16:21:20] <cradek> new fuel pump while you're at it
[16:21:26] <PetefromTn_> yup that too
[16:21:35] <Tom_itx> and all the black hoses
[16:21:54] <cradek> we sawed a hole above the fuel pump in my ex's 96
[16:22:04] <cradek> worked great :-)
[16:22:15] <PetefromTn_> yeah I think you told me about that before LOL
[16:22:24] <PetefromTn_> or was that in my van?
[16:22:39] <cradek> heh it's a timeless and universal idea
[16:23:10] <PetefromTn_> It's just BS that they make changing that stuff such a chore.
[16:23:34] <PetefromTn_> especially if you don't have a lift
[16:33:15] <PetefromTn_> cradek What sort of spindle orientation does your VMC have? I am trying to get mine working and it is becoming a challenge.
[16:47:08] <mozmck> big lathe here - nearly next door to me! http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/bfs/4859424752.html
[18:31:07] <mozmck> I played a little more with the shiny led's an hal_bars: http://postimg.org/image/xqr4nz4d1/
[18:32:54] <mozmck> Now I made a "shiny" option that is off by default, and for LED's there is a bi-color option that makes a bi-color LED work better
[19:00:12] <mozmck> I made a local branch off 2.7 for the shiny leds. What is the best way of generating a patch against 2.7?
[19:01:20] <mozmck> I commited my changes, and I can do 'git diff 2.7 > something.patch' and it looks like it should be right...
[19:06:03] <PCW> Those are nice (though the oval one makes the round ones look funny to me after a while)
[19:06:39] <mozmck> Yes, the oval looks different
[19:06:41] <Tom_itx> PCW is the 7i47 with analog alot different than the regular one besides the analog out?
[19:08:48] <mozmck> Here's the patch for anyone who wants to try it. http://pastebin.com/1p1kKdbh
[19:08:51] <PCW> not really it just has a 0 to 10V spindle control output and three opto outputs (DIR/ENA/SPARE or FOR/REV/ENA)
[19:09:05] <mozmck> no recompile needed if doing a run in place.
