[08:44:30] <archivist> skunkworks_, are you using the camera to detect the orientation of the lap shades :)
[08:53:07] <archivist> someone needs to fix the site languages
[08:56:38] <archivist> I just deleted cookies to try to get back to english and did a refresh, I get a 500 error
[08:57:15] <archivist> second refresh is ok
[08:59:06] <archivist> so I dont get an english cookie if I land clean but do get a german if land on a german url , inconsistent and buggy
[09:05:02] <archivist> and another error german download page is out of date
[09:10:32] <JT-Shop> is there a new iso with the USB patch and 2.6.4? Peter mentioned it on the forum
[09:15:07] <pcw_home> I hope I didn't optimistically mis-remember that
[09:15:33] <archivist> I remember something too but would have to go search for it :)
[09:17:29] <pcw_home> and at least psha's archive is down ATM
[09:25:05] <Tom_itx> i don't know if they updated it on the temporary link here or not: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.emc.user/52401
[09:28:36] <Tom_itx> <cradek> new live+install image with 3.4.55-4linuxcnc kernel and linuxcnc 2.6.4 is available at the usual place
[09:29:01] <Tom_itx> wherever 'usual' is
[09:31:36] <Tom_itx> http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?UpdatingTo2.6
[09:32:11] <Tom_itx> maybe it will update thru the normal channels if you add it to the apt line
[09:34:08] <JT-Shop> I wonder if the link on the download page is it? http://linuxcnc.org/binary.hybrid.iso
[09:34:29] <Tom_itx> i dunno if they updated it or not. that was the original
[09:34:44] <Tom_itx> guess you could try it :)
[09:34:52] <Tom_itx> if not you'd have a spare copy
[09:35:23] <Tom_itx> or see if the md5 checksum is different
[09:36:03] <Tom_itx> JT-Shop are you running it on anything yet?
[09:39:46] <JT-Shop> I have it on this computer but it does not run a machine
[09:40:49] <JT-Shop> if you have unlimited download bandwidth can you download and check the MD5SUM shown on this page? http://linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/download
[09:42:02] <cradek> b515c872335336ccfc96471d66b687d8 binary.hybrid.iso
[09:42:11] <cradek> JT-Shop: sorry, I didn't update the md5sum anywhere -- this is the right one
[09:42:23] <JT-Shop> thanks
[09:43:16] <JT-Shop> just to be clear the iso is 2.6.4 now?
[09:43:36] <Tom_itx> maybe add hybrid264.iso or such so we know?
[09:43:48] <cradek> yeah, should be 2.6.4 as that was the latest when I generated it
[09:44:12] <cradek> I am still against putting the linuxcnc version number in the filename because it is absolutely wrong to download a new image to upgrade linuxcnc
[09:44:24] <cradek> and it's also wrong to expect that I will regenerate it for every linuxcnc release
[09:44:42] <Tom_itx> not expected but would have been helpful here
[10:06:45] <jthornton> does the description read well? http://linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/download
[10:08:47] <Tom_itx> LinuxCNC 2.5.4 is th
[10:08:50] <Tom_itx> 6
[10:10:21] <jthornton> opps
[10:11:17] <archivist> I want the version number in filenames so I know what I have downloaded (I often keep older ISOs around)
[10:12:41] <Tom_itx> it was suggested but rejected
[10:13:38] <pcw_home> jthornton: you dont need to re-install to upgrade the kernel
[10:16:20] <pcw_home> of course having USB working in the installation kernel is worth updating the ISO
[10:17:32] <pcw_home> pretty soon these young-uns wont even know what a PS/2 KB is
[10:18:57] <jthornton> yea, it's kind of hard to type with a USB keyboard and no USB
[10:18:58] <archivist> time we went back to 9 pin serial
[10:21:42] <pcw_home> I have a 10# box of serial mice, I dont think they are coming back in style again
[10:22:11] <pcw_home> (PCW should clean out the back room at Mesa)
[10:23:07] <archivist> any with DIN plugs off the earlier PCs ?
[10:23:59] <pcw_home> maybe, some are ancient Hawley
[10:26:38] <zeeshan|2> i used a ps/2 mouse for a long time
[10:26:42] <zeeshan|2> er
[10:26:44] <zeeshan|2> ps/2 keyboard
[10:26:51] <zeeshan|2> gamers love it
[10:32:35] <skunkworks_> well with the new iso - it is a mute point.. but you can burn the iso to a cd and install it that way (with ps2 mouse and keyboard(
[10:34:06] <skunkworks_> archivist: yes - it does see some circles in the background depending on the min/max settings
[10:34:30] <archivist> is that mute moot
[10:34:49] <skunkworks_> moot - that is what I meant!
[10:34:56] * archivist ducks
[10:35:09] <skunkworks_> I do normally get that right..
[10:35:28] <Tom_itx> brains are allowed half speed on saturday
[14:02:17] <skunkworks_> 1/4 speed?
[14:07:17] <pcw_home> where the hal lint program that warns of single node nets?
[14:18:05] <kwallace2> I haven't used a reversing tapping head with LinuxCNC, but it seems to me the G81 drill cycle should work okay. I'd like to know if anyone could confirm that. Thank you.
[16:41:28] <Tom_itx> kwallace it should... you'd just have to set your S and F so it didn't pull or push too much
[16:49:21] <kwallace> Tom_itx, thanks. I have a g-code generator for tapping with a tap holder using G84 that I'm writing instructions for. In the text I made comment that for reversing tapping heads, G84 won't work but G81 will, but I'm not able to test this out.
[16:51:26] <Tom_itx> just calculate the spindle speed so the feedrate keeps up with the threads per unit
[16:52:07] <Tom_itx> those tapping heads are pretty forgiving
[16:58:51] <kwallace> My generator has a calc F = RPM * Pitch. It also estimates the distance traveled during the dwell during spindle reversing to compare with the max. holder travel.
[16:59:09] <Tom_itx> that helps
[17:00:04] <Tom_itx> i'm more used to using those tapping heads on a lathe
