08:47 AM Lcvette1: morning
09:28 AM Lcvette1: im installing buster on the test pc for the first time
09:28 AM Lcvette1: with probe basic
09:28 AM Lcvette1: :o
09:28 AM Lcvette1: is buster better than stretch?
09:56 AM roguish[m]: Lcvette: not necessarily. just updates..... a few things moved around. a little longer to EOL.
09:57 AM Lcvette1: ah, gotcha
09:58 AM roguish[m]: it's probably worth doing. but then stay there for a few years..... personnally I hate trying to follow the bleeding edge all the time.
09:59 AM Lcvette1: i just figured i probably need to update the probe basic installation instructions to use buster if it is the now stable linux
10:00 AM Lcvette1: and it is using the 2.8 version so it eliminates the step of having to update stretch from 2.7 to 2.8 from the old test version
10:00 AM Lcvette1: TurBoss: yo
10:22 AM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: IMG_20200929_112144485_HDR.jpg < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/HvXlgQQuOwLDmWzddaWhWLuU/IMG_20200929_112144485_HDR.jpg >
10:23 AM Lcvette1: turboss, maybe a clue? i decided to try installing the latest installer on a clean install and i get this error message
10:24 AM Lcvette1: TurBoss: any help?

10:50 AM Lcvette1: bah... buster has no screen shot thingy
11:02 AM roguish[m]: Lcvette: I think it does. that's a application (program). may be different name and icon.
11:03 AM Lcvette1: only showing 4 applications
11:06 AM roguish[m]: Lcvette: what did you actually install? what .iso file? one straight from debian? or from linuxcnc?
11:07 AM Lcvette1: linuxcnc downloads page
11:08 AM roguish[m]: I always install a menu editor: mozo
11:09 AM roguish[m]: use synaptic, or good old sudo apt-get install mozo
11:10 AM JT-Cave: don't even need the get part anymore sudo apt install mozo works fine
11:11 AM Lcvette1: nmozo?
11:11 AM * JT-Cave heads to the machine shop to try and actually get some work done
11:11 AM Lcvette1: * mozo?
11:13 AM Lcvette1: i inatalled mozo but now what?
11:15 AM roguish[m]: use mozo to modify the main menus. you may find a screen capture program hiding there. don't worry, you can't really mess it up too badly.
11:15 AM roguish[m]: i'll turn on my play system and see what might be there for you.
11:28 AM Lcvette1: ok just used mozo to clean up the menu, but i did not see any screenshot
11:28 AM Lcvette1: :(
11:28 AM Lcvette1: that screenshot is a major tool i use..lol
11:30 AM roguish[m]: use synaptic to search for a screenshot program. read the descriptions carefully. synaptic is good. you can always uninstall something if you don't like it.
11:30 AM Lcvette1: i got it!
11:30 AM Lcvette1: sudo apt install xfce4-screenshooter
11:30 AM roguish[m]: find the name of the program you like in the other install.....
11:30 AM roguish[m]: there ya go.
11:31 AM Lcvette1: hurray!!
11:31 AM Lcvette1: \o/
11:47 AM Lcvette1: finally all set back up
11:47 AM Lcvette1: i do like that this buster is stripped down pretty good, not much in the way of added on programs
11:48 AM Lcvette1: and it loads super fast compared to the old stretch install i had
11:53 AM Lcvette1: TurBoss: yo i noticed some things on the new test pc install
01:42 PM roguish[m]: Lcvette: just remember that that is a package put together by andypugh. not a 'stock' one from Debian. but that's ok. it works.
01:48 PM hazzy-m: Lcvette needs a screenshooter to show everyone his issues lol
01:48 PM Lcvette1: roguish: sweet
01:48 PM Lcvette1: hazzy: INEEEEED
01:48 PM Lcvette1: * hazzy: INDEEEEED
01:49 PM Lcvette1: its Yuuge help
01:52 PM hazzy-m: Just had the worst machine demo ever, almost died of embarrassment. Note to self: don't let salesmen run machines
01:53 PM hazzy-m: Lcvette: ready for the debate?
01:53 PM * hazzy-m has his popcorn ready. Remember Corn Pop was a bad dude
01:53 PM Lcvette1: its gonna be Yuge!
01:53 PM Lcvette1: c'mon man, cornpop was a bad dude, he did the thing with the other thing, you know the thing
01:54 PM Lcvette1: :D
01:54 PM Lcvette1: coooorn poppppp
01:56 PM Joco[m]: oh yeah - election debate. Having those here as well.
01:57 PM Joco[m]: Its the same world over. Crap Choice #1 and Crap Choice #2. Which is the lesser crap choice
01:57 PM roguish[m]: ours is going to be a circus.
01:58 PM Joco[m]: yup - the american debate is hilarious. Pathelogical Liar v's Geratric.
01:59 PM Joco[m]: I can't wait to see the tweets ... "its all false news!!!"
02:01 PM roguish[m]: they are both geriatrics.
02:01 PM Lcvette1: it is all fake news
02:01 PM Lcvette1: thats the one constant
02:02 PM roguish[m]: one is boring. the other is a low life scumbag criminal cheat liar.
02:02 PM Lcvette1: news may as well just be another reality tv show
02:03 PM Lcvette1: Trump is pretty boring
02:04 PM roguish[m]: Lcvette: he's a jackass fuck wad
02:04 PM Lcvette1: /o\
02:04 PM Lcvette1: lol
02:04 PM roguish[m]: sorry. not supposed to be a political channal
02:05 PM Lcvette1: hey can't blame ya for feelin that way, you do live in California
02:05 PM roguish[m]: yes I do. and i haven't voted for a winner in decades....
02:06 PM roguish[m]: as a conservative in the liberal city in the liberal region of the liberal state, I feel pretty disenfranchise.
02:09 PM Joco[m]: meh - same world over. But I would rather have a slightly fcuked democracy than the current alternatives.
02:09 PM Lcvette1: its ok Rougish, I will get you some MAGA swag out stat!!
02:09 PM Lcvette1: :o
02:09 PM Joco[m]: lol
02:10 PM Lcvette1: Joco: 4sho
02:10 PM roguish[m]: Lcvette: how about sending out some of that rain...
02:11 PM Lcvette1: no doubt
02:11 PM Joco[m]: Yeah. Think west coast needs some water.
02:11 PM Lcvette1: you guys still on fire there?
02:13 PM roguish[m]: oh yeah. more have just started. Napa valley area (the wine country area) has another big one going. it's about80 miles from em. but really smokey here again.
02:13 PM roguish[m]: https://www.purpleair.com/map?opt=1/mAQI/a10/cC0#11/37.8929/-122.0739
02:14 PM Lcvette1: /o\
02:14 PM Lcvette1: that sucks man
02:14 PM Lcvette1: whenya moving?
02:14 PM Lcvette1: east coast is far better
02:14 PM Lcvette1: here you just have to worry with hurricanes
02:15 PM Lcvette1: but nonone poops in the street here
02:15 PM roguish[m]: Lcvette: Joco ok, so there are indeed problems everywhere. ONE problem is the REAL problem, world wide..........TOO MANY PEOPLE.
02:16 PM Lcvette1: good luck finding a solution to that one
02:16 PM Lcvette1: just be thankful you live in the now and will be gone before it gets too bad
02:16 PM Lcvette1: there is not really a humane way to fix that problem
02:17 PM Joco[m]: Yup. But we are pushing planet capacity unless we sort some key techs ASAP. Or push the next logical expansion areas.
02:17 PM Lcvette1: china capped families to 2 children, the result was it almost topled their middle class
02:18 PM Lcvette1: and imploded their economy
02:18 PM Lcvette1: fortunately in china the elderly are much better cared for, had that happened in the united states we would have completely lost social security
02:19 PM Lcvette1: not that its sustainable anyhow but it would have ceased to exist
02:19 PM Lcvette1: well before people could prepare'which would have collapsed out economy
02:20 PM Lcvette1: there is a very big generational issue with reducing population by reducing new births
02:20 PM Lcvette1: yet there is a very big issue with not doing so
02:20 PM Lcvette1: like joco said ideally, we need another planet
02:20 PM Lcvette1: and soon
02:21 PM Joco[m]: Or you do a Logan’s Run model - lol
02:21 PM Lcvette1: in 100 years, food will be more valuable than gold
02:22 PM Lcvette1: i think we can solve the energy crisis with technology, but food is another problem altogether, people focus on global warming but global growth will be the downfall of planet earth
02:24 PM Joco[m]: Food can be solved to a certain extent with tech.
02:25 PM Joco[m]: Protein is the best example. We utilise a huge amount of land space to grow it. But it could grown in other ways.
02:25 PM Lcvette1: to an extent but that isn't resolving the underlying problem
02:25 PM Lcvette1: that just delays the end problem
02:26 PM Joco[m]: Ultimately there is a set capacity for Earth and we can’t go around that cap without consequences
02:26 PM Lcvette1: if anything it will make the problem worse
02:26 PM Lcvette1: just lets the harder solution get punted a generation or two
02:26 PM Lcvette1: that is correct
02:27 PM Joco[m]: Yup.
02:27 PM Lcvette1: we need a shrink ray
02:27 PM Lcvette1: if all people on earth were 10% our current size we would be golden
02:27 PM Lcvette1: lol
02:27 PM Lcvette1: \o/
02:27 PM Lcvette1: D:
02:27 PM Lcvette1: * :D
02:27 PM Lcvette1: * :D
02:28 PM Joco[m]: End game is we need more land/space. You can do under water cities to utilise ocean realestate but again that is just punting the problem out. Of course the tech developed for that could leverage nicely to moving off planet.
02:30 PM Joco[m]: All very interesting BUT not solving our CNC challenges. :-)
02:36 PM Joco[m]: Got 2 more Polly-v (aka micro V) pulleys to make on the manual lathe. A cnc lathe would be rather nice, just no space left.
02:45 PM roguish[m]: Joco: I disagree. the resources are finite. so must be the consumers. the human population needs a good, across the board culling.
02:45 PM roguish[m]: the population has more than doubled in just the last 60 years
02:45 PM roguish[m]: TOO MANY.
03:40 PM TurBoss: yo
03:40 PM TurBoss: i broke
03:52 PM Lcvette1: TurBoss: o/
03:52 PM TurBoss: Hello!
03:52 PM Lcvette1: :D
03:52 PM Lcvette1: \o/
03:52 PM TurBoss: sup?
03:53 PM Lcvette1: i dound some issues on the probe basic from the new install
03:53 PM Lcvette1: not sure where it came from
03:53 PM TurBoss: ok
03:53 PM TurBoss: no version... right
03:53 PM TurBoss: i figure
03:53 PM TurBoss: * i figuref
03:53 PM TurBoss: * i figured
03:53 PM Lcvette1: i tried installing just the 19x link and it failed
03:53 PM Lcvette1: so i uninstalled and did the main installer then updated with the latest one from thnat page
03:54 PM Lcvette1: and got fewer errors but it went through
03:54 PM Lcvette1: so something is missing from the main installer and the second installer
03:54 PM Lcvette1: the lock down vs the dev one
03:54 PM Lcvette1: maybe why its giving the error message
03:54 PM Lcvette1: and probe basic is a little different, some fonts are not right in the latest install
03:54 PM TurBoss: its unable to find the file it just downloaded

03:59 PM TurBoss: :/
03:59 PM TurBoss: Lcvette: thats on test pc?
04:00 PM Lcvette1: yes
04:00 PM Lcvette1: using installer
04:00 PM TurBoss: after the failed install?
04:00 PM Lcvette1: i can't remember if that is something that was fixed on a later version or if something is broken
04:00 PM Lcvette1: no no it was like this from the start
04:00 PM Lcvette1: with the lockdown installer
04:01 PM Lcvette1: but im not sure if it was always like this or if soemthing broke
04:01 PM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: Screenshot_2020-09-29_17-01-03.png (29KiB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/rtjDtjthDqjKFdLqgCtUjkAo/Screenshot_2020-09-29_17-01-03.png >
