08:05 AM JT-Cave: TurBoss, I figured out why the Rpi would not speak to the DotStar... my level shifters are bi-directional so only 2 lines go from 3.3v to 5v the odd numbers are 3.3v to 5v and the even numbers are 5v to 3.3v

04:01 PM Joco[m]: pcw_home: is it just a coin toss between them? I'm trying to think of future potential/options. But on a small machine like this once it has glass scales as feedback I'm not seeing the need for further investment in that area. More likely to improve the h/w (C5 ball screws for example)
04:02 PM pcw_home: If you have a 7I76E you already have 1 sserial expansion port so a 7I85S adds one more which is a lot of I/O
04:03 PM Joco[m]: Yup. Have both 7i76E and a 6i25/7i76 combo. The plug'n-go kit is what is currently commissioned. The 7i76E is a spare at this point.
04:05 PM pcw_home: 7I76_6I25 is same situation I would think a 7I85S make the most sense unless you expect to need more than 5 encoders

04:07 PM Joco[m]: I think the 7i85S is the way to as well. That gives 5 encoders. 1 specialist spindle encoder/voltage control mix, 4 encoders for 3 glass scales and a spare for a 4th axis. With linear encoders not seeing the need on this grade mill to go to stepper/servo with encoder setup. So ... should be good.
