11:08 AM hazzy-m: those paths look correct
11:09 AM hazzy-m: if you browse to '/home/cnc/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts/' to you see the font files?
02:25 PM * JT-Shop has sorted out that all the 1/8" hole saws will nest and all the 1/4" will nest so you end up with 2 stacks of hole saws
03:26 PM TurBoss: hello
05:34 PM TurBoss: I'm having issues when I set a g5x offset having g92 in place
05:40 PM TurBoss: ok figured..

05:44 PM JT-Cave: nice
06:03 PM Joco[m]: hi ho campers. Lovely sunny winters day downunder. Gonna take dog up to the beach for a run.
06:05 PM Joco[m]: oh and got the Y axis ball screw mapped against the 5um scales (finally) after a massive re-org in the garage/workshop. Getting this surface grinder seemed like a great idea at the auction. Getting into its home has been a bit more of a mission. And not even really started "fixing" its age quirks.
06:05 PM Joco[m]: Anyways ... compensated test graphs on the Y axis. Measurements in mm.

06:05 PM Joco[m]: I'm "pretty" sure I have some movement in the thrust bearing. Suspect the preload is too loght.
06:06 PM TurBoss: do the graphic mean that error keeps betwen 0.01 and -0.01?
06:06 PM Joco[m]: yup
06:06 PM TurBoss: amazing
06:06 PM TurBoss: \ΓΈ
06:06 PM TurBoss: * \o/
06:06 PM Joco[m]: these are error graphs. Requested position compared to what is measured on the glass scales.
06:07 PM lmclaren[m]: the stepped nature makes me suspect its the stepper increments
06:07 PM Joco[m]: Now I have X and Y with effective compensation maps I will do some test pieces and get some real world sizes from a "complex" part. It wont be this good but hopefully not tooo far out
06:08 PM Joco[m]: lmclaren: on X I got things a lot tighter. But I also checked and tightened the thrust bearing. Have not done that on Y. Getting impatient.
06:09 PM lmclaren[m]: no problem, just something to consider, eg steps per rotation not coinciding with commanded position, otherwise I would not expect to see it cyclic
06:10 PM Joco[m]: lmclaren: oh agree - not saying you are wrong. Re the steps you are totally right. Just the level of variation was more consistent around zero on X after I did that tightening. Pre that process X looked a lot like theese Y graphs
06:11 PM lmclaren[m]: agreed, there are a few things happening on the graph
06:11 PM lmclaren[m]: still very good, to quote the popular, she'l be right
06:11 PM hazzy-m: also stepper motors can have significant variation in angle per step, especially when using microstamping, could be seeing some of that
06:12 PM Joco[m]: yup - microstepping will be having an effect as well
06:12 PM Joco[m]: For the tolerances I am after if I can get to +/-0.02 I will be super happy
06:12 PM lmclaren[m]: mm i hope!
06:13 PM Joco[m]: +/-0.04 I can live with. Getitng north of 0.1 will be a poop
06:13 PM Joco[m]: At the moment I and suffering +/-0.2mm
06:13 PM Joco[m]: actually more cotrrectly +0.2mm
06:19 PM Joco[m]: Think game plan post dog/beach walk will be to pull the Y motor off and tighten up that bearing preload. Doing that while everything is reasonably clean will be much easier. Then re run compensation. Once I have done that I can make a mess and cut stuff.

10:27 PM Joco[m]: I'm back dog duties. Tightened/improved thrust bearing preload. Recalced steps/mm and its moved quite noticeably closer to the nominal 400/mm theories says it should be. Re running the mapping process now.
