05:07 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:11 AM Joco[m]: morning JT-Cave
05:12 AM Joco[m]: I've been tinkering with my surface grinder
05:12 AM Joco[m]: soooo much to learb
05:12 AM Joco[m]: * soooo much to learn
05:13 AM JT-Cave: I got mine cheap because the guy didn't know how to put the table bearings in
05:14 AM Joco[m]: table bearings?
05:15 AM Joco[m]: mines a little boyer-schultz 618 clone. Ingar 618 from Spain.
05:17 AM Joco[m]: need to get a few bits a pieces. A wheel I know the quality of and I know is designed for mild steels (what I have to play with) and a diamond dreassser so can make a 15 degree slanted holder for dressing.
05:17 AM Joco[m]: JT-Cave: and advice on the size diamond to have for the dresser?
05:19 AM JT-Cave: pretty much any size diamond will dress the wheel flat
05:20 AM JT-Cave: I take light cuts when dressing the wheel
05:21 AM JT-Cave: I just have a vertical diamond holder with a base big enough to be held by the magnetic chuck
05:21 AM JT-Cave: if your dressing shapes in the wheel that's a different ball game
05:22 AM Joco[m]: just to dress flat. I can buy 1 , 0.75 and 0.5 carat dressers
05:28 AM JT-Cave: what diameter wheel?
05:29 AM Joco[m]: 200mm
05:30 AM JT-Cave: 1 carat will do up to a 12" wheel so any of those will work on an 8" wheel
05:31 AM Joco[m]: cool - thanks
05:32 AM JT-Cave: I spent a few years running surface grinders in a tool room making cutters for nail machines
05:32 AM Joco[m]: cool - someone who can tell when I'm a dumb ass :-)
05:34 AM JT-Cave: not much too it really just don't over heat the metal your grinding by taking too big of a cut
05:37 AM Joco[m]: grinder has flood coolant system and I also have a fogbuster cooler in shop
05:37 AM Joco[m]: plus side on a bit of fluid might be keep the dust down
05:37 AM JT-Cave: nice, I've only ground dry
05:39 AM Joco[m]: Tonights tinkering was dry and since I was taking it so easy the test steel was cool. But it was a bit a shoot in the dark. Mild steel which I believe is not easy to get a good finsih on. No idea if the wheel is the right type as can't see the type off the label and no ability to dress it and no idea how well balanced it is.
05:40 AM Joco[m]: lol - hack city
05:41 AM Joco[m]: ============\

05:43 AM JT-Cave: looks good to me
05:44 AM Joco[m]: just starting to get a reflection. Feels pretty good
05:44 AM JT-Cave: just be mindful of the shape of the part and how well it's being held by the magnetic chuck
05:45 AM Joco[m]: did this on a 30 degree angle as well so cutting from one corner edge to other.
05:45 AM Joco[m]: gave it a good tug on chuck to check hold was solid before starting off.
05:46 AM Joco[m]: was a heap of fun. I don't have 3 phase so powerthing things with a basic VFD. Nice easy 5 second ramp up to full spindle speed and let it coast to stop.
05:47 AM JT-Cave: nice
05:47 AM Joco[m]: I tried a controlled ramp down but decided it didnt add anything.
05:47 AM Joco[m]: spindle slows and stops in anbout 10-12 seconds anyway
05:51 AM Joco[m]: I got a lot of wheels with it. Must have a good 20-30 wheels. Some look new bust be 5-10 years old.
05:52 AM Joco[m]: * I got a lot of wheels with it. Must have a good 20-30 wheels. Some look new must be 5-10 years old.
05:52 AM Joco[m]: * I got a lot of wheels with it. Must have a good 20-30 wheels. Some look new but must be 5-10 years old.
05:54 AM Joco[m]: I think I just figured out what type of wheel is on it. Pretty sure it is a Black Silicon Carbide.
05:59 AM JT-Cave: if you have any green wheels they are usually for carbide
06:12 AM Joco[m]: Yup. GC is foir carbide. A (Ali oxide) seems to be for mild steel and WA is for tool steels
06:13 AM Joco[m]: PA seenms to be getting called out for general steel grinding as well
06:24 AM Joco[m]: right - sleeps. nite
08:18 AM Lcvette: morning
11:37 AM TurBoss: hello

02:15 PM hazzy-m: Finally finished that control upgrade
02:16 PM Joco[m]: Wow. Super tidy.
02:17 PM Joco[m]: I have to fab a small enclosure for SG. Probably nothing as nice on the inside as that.
02:23 PM Lcvette: looking good! is that your mill Hazzy?
02:23 PM hazzy-m: No, it's an ancient little baby folder
02:24 PM Lcvette: ah
02:24 PM Lcvette: come do mine next!!
02:24 PM Lcvette: :D
02:24 PM Lcvette: \o/

02:35 PM Joco[m]: Fence stuff?
02:35 PM Lcvette: fancy fence?
02:35 PM Lcvette: lol
02:40 PM JT[m]: Yea a fence
02:41 PM JT[m]: What kind of servos did you get
02:41 PM Lcvette: DMM
02:42 PM Lcvette: AC
02:42 PM Lcvette: 750w
02:42 PM Lcvette: 86mm
02:42 PM JT[m]: Nice
02:43 PM JT[m]: \me is calling it a day 2 hours early
02:43 PM Lcvette: hurray!
02:43 PM Lcvette: :D
02:43 PM Lcvette: \o/
02:44 PM Lcvette: ae you mkaking the fence pieces?
02:44 PM Lcvette: I would not wanna fall while trying to climb over that fence :o
02:44 PM JT[m]: Yea, 10 sections
02:45 PM JT[m]: And 2 gates
02:45 PM Lcvette: are tyhose post tops soemthing ordered?
02:46 PM JT[m]: Yea from King Architectural Metals
02:46 PM Lcvette: nice
02:48 PM JT[m]: PIA I'm not doing any more fences except for me
03:24 PM Lcvette: lol
03:28 PM Joco[m]: Lol. Welded to rails or screwed/bolted?
03:42 PM JT-Shop: all welded up then powder coated then bolted onto the anchors
04:58 PM TurBoss: Lcvette: you right the LATC branch merge was a phail
04:58 PM Lcvette: /o\
04:58 PM Lcvette: :D
04:58 PM Lcvette: lol
04:59 PM TurBoss: but the initial branch has the problem i said all vertical work was done to the regular probe_basic.ui not latc one
05:01 PM Lcvette: ?
05:01 PM Lcvette: what initial branch?
05:02 PM Lcvette: ya lost me
05:02 PM TurBoss: 😂
05:02 PM Lcvette: think they were all just probe_basic.ui
05:02 PM TurBoss: tes
05:02 PM TurBoss: yes
05:03 PM Lcvette: hazzy said to just make folder copies to work inside for the different ones
05:03 PM TurBoss: but not in the probe_basic_latc
05:03 PM Lcvette: that was long long ago
05:03 PM Lcvette: no?
05:03 PM TurBoss: the changes went to probe_basic/probe_basic.ui
05:03 PM TurBoss: not
05:03 PM TurBoss: probe_basic_latc/probe_basic_latc
05:03 PM Lcvette: not a copied folder?
05:04 PM Lcvette: lcvette don't know
05:04 PM Lcvette: /o\
05:04 PM Lcvette: fixable?
05:04 PM Lcvette: or burn it down :o
05:04 PM Lcvette: :D
05:04 PM Lcvette: lol
05:04 PM TurBoss: yes...
05:04 PM Lcvette: burn it down?
05:04 PM TurBoss: :/
05:09 PM TurBoss: we can start from Linear_ATC_Branch
05:13 PM * TurBoss uploaded an image: Captura de pantalla de 2020-07-22 00-04-06.png (11KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/WCxWXwbDsoMbsrXlOqHuuNjU >
10:37 PM Lcvette: TurBoss sorry, had to run out for some material before everything closed
10:37 PM Lcvette: Then came back unloaded everything came home and fell asleep
10:38 PM Lcvette: Lcvette is not used to long manual labor ou in this heat
10:38 PM Joco[m]: lol - old man
10:39 PM Lcvette: Out of shape man...
10:39 PM Lcvette: Lol
10:39 PM Lcvette: 4000lbs of lumber
10:40 PM Joco[m]: yikes
10:40 PM Joco[m]: ok - will let you off
10:40 PM Lcvette: Moved from front of house to back off house
10:41 PM Lcvette: Heat index 104*
10:41 PM Lcvette: Humid
10:41 PM Joco[m]: yuk
10:42 PM Joco[m]: what is temp?
10:42 PM Lcvette: /o\
10:42 PM Lcvette: 96*
10:43 PM Joco[m]: 96F ...
10:43 PM Lcvette: Yes
10:43 PM Joco[m]: 35.5C
10:43 PM Joco[m]: yeah that's hot
10:44 PM Lcvette: Yes
10:44 PM Lcvette: Lcvette wishes it was 35.5F
10:44 PM Lcvette: Lol
10:44 PM Joco[m]: I can convert Inch to MM mostly in head but F to C I just have never been able tp icture
10:44 PM Lcvette: He likes winter
10:45 PM Joco[m]: as soon as its over 25C I'm starting to cook
10:46 PM Lcvette: Oh.. yeah.. 10 minutes working in it and I'm drenched
10:46 PM Joco[m]: had a holidy in Australia up in Port Douglas for a week. Slowly cooked in 90+ humidity and 33-38C. We went to the city one day and it kicked 40C not fun
10:46 PM Lcvette: Lol
10:47 PM Lcvette: Will see 101F in a few weeks I'm sure
10:47 PM Joco[m]: 40C is 104F
10:47 PM Lcvette: July and August are brutal here
10:48 PM Joco[m]: give it another 10 years and I think brutal wont even start to describe it
10:49 PM Lcvette: I have friends in Utah that see those temps and tell me it's not too bad...lol. but they have 0% humidity
10:49 PM Joco[m]: humidity is definately the difference
10:49 PM Joco[m]: I can cope with dry heat
10:49 PM Lcvette: 90% humidity and 100F wil make a person crazy
10:50 PM Joco[m]: Where I grew up we would push 30-31C in the height of summer. But it was only with a dry northerly wind.
10:51 PM Lcvette: That's pleasant
10:53 PM Joco[m]: yeah - wasn't too bad.
10:54 PM Joco[m]: There are a couple of places in NZ that will regulary crack 30+C in summer but it is always a dry heat.
10:54 PM Joco[m]: funnily those same spots also get the lowest temps in winter.
