06:34 AM hazzy-m: morning
06:35 AM pink_vampire: hi hazzy-m
06:40 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:48 AM Lcvette: Morning
07:49 AM * Lcvette sent a long message: < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/XIaUEhsFmNJkWjOtbsxNMIGo >
07:51 AM Lcvette: pink_vampire: hello pink_vampire
07:51 AM Lcvette: Welcome
11:53 AM hazzy-m: pink_vampire: hello!
11:54 AM hazzy-m: Lcvette: Tornado is a web server
11:54 AM Lcvette: :o
12:44 PM Lcvette: how is the latency on linuxcnc and rpi4?
12:52 PM Lcvette: turboss are you here?
02:51 PM hazzy-m: Kai: hello
03:30 PM Lcvette: hazzy: can probe basic run on rasberry pi 4?
03:31 PM Lcvette: turboss?
03:31 PM Lcvette: JT
03:31 PM Lcvette: ?
03:32 PM Lcvette: joco?
03:32 PM Lcvette: :D
03:32 PM Lcvette: \o/
03:32 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: more the question will be LinuxCNC
03:33 PM Lcvette: i have seen JT can run linuxcnc on rpi4
03:33 PM Lcvette: but i think i remember someone telling me there was an issue with qtpyvcp or maybe probe basic
03:34 PM Joco[m]: if hes running his pyqtvcp gui on pi then would expect PB to run.
03:34 PM Joco[m]: JT the man to ask.
03:35 PM Lcvette: i don't know if he was runnign wtpyvcp
03:35 PM Joco[m]: pi and mesa might be viable. But pi is always going to be the weak link in that chain.
03:36 PM Joco[m]: Suggest ping him a question.
03:36 PM Lcvette: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/37231-raspberry-pi-4-tutorial
03:36 PM Joco[m]: I only have pi3s about home.
03:36 PM Joco[m]: One is for 3d printer and other is vpn gateway to home network.
03:38 PM Lcvette: vpn?
03:38 PM Lcvette: virtual private network
03:38 PM Joco[m]: Yup
03:38 PM Lcvette: lcvbette doesn't know how that stuff works
03:39 PM Lcvette: im not virtually private
03:39 PM Lcvette: :(
03:39 PM Joco[m]: you know other stuff.
03:39 PM Lcvette: turboss does rpi4 i think
03:39 PM Joco[m]: It all balances out.
03:40 PM Joco[m]: lol. I just for a del optiplex which worked and was happy.
03:40 PM Joco[m]: Not enough time and too many other things to work out.
03:41 PM * Joco[m] uploaded an image: ima_2abc8e8.png (98KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/CTWvicRsuwLGZVolLGDqjQsT >
03:41 PM Joco[m]: A modelling we will go. Lol
03:41 PM Lcvette: nice!
03:42 PM Lcvette: you need to make the auto gear change
03:43 PM Joco[m]: Going to try the 1:1.25 ratio you suggested a while back and see how it performs. That will give me up to 2k on low and 5k on high.
03:43 PM Joco[m]: Auto gear changer!?
03:44 PM Joco[m]: If servo isnt up to it then it will get saved for when i finally find a surfce grinder. So i can cnc that. :-)
03:45 PM Joco[m]: But i remain positive. :-)
03:45 PM Joco[m]: <Lcvette "you need to make the auto gear c"> Think you need to explain that one.
03:46 PM Lcvette: trying to find it
03:52 PM Joco[m]: I have a 19mm MT3 collet with M12 thread on order and a CBN insert. I’m pretty sure it’s really a 3/4” collect that they are calling 19mm.
03:52 PM Joco[m]: Anyway, will hard turn the face institute in the mill while it clamps a 3/4” round. That will make it flat and slightly proud of the spindle for TTS holders
03:57 PM Joco[m]: Plan is ti try the TTS stuff using hand (probably air ratchet) tighen/loosen for a while. Then maybe progress to power drawbar.
03:57 PM Joco[m]: I thought it was ok for it to be 0.5 to 1mm proud?
03:58 PM Joco[m]: its supposed to be. That was what I thought the point of the TTS design is
03:59 PM Lcvette: you don't want it proud
03:59 PM Lcvette: you want it to recess slightly in the taper of the spindle
03:59 PM Lcvette: the tool edge is ground and designed to fit against the spindle nose for repetability
03:59 PM Lcvette: is the edge inside the mating diameter inner edge of the tool?
03:59 PM Joco[m]: the holders mating flange to the spindle is a cup shape to ensure can not interfere with the collet
03:59 PM Lcvette: they are ground flat sow hen the drawbar opens, it is not too far away from the spindle nose that the tool won't sesat against the spindle nose
04:01 PM Lcvette: so long as it clears you should be ok and as long as it fully seats i don't think you will have an issue
04:01 PM Lcvette: but i have never seen one proud and i have had many in my hands asof late for all the kits and test fit each one
04:01 PM Lcvette: they all suck into the spindle about 1/16"
04:02 PM * Joco[m] uploaded an image: image.png (274KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/UaGocGnPwvRwPAFAnqRbPSXY >
04:02 PM Lcvette: if the tool cannot be inserted far enough that there is a gap when it clamps then its no bueno
04:03 PM Joco[m]: its that "cup" shape to the top flange I am referring to. The recess is supposed to allow for some small amount of the collet protruding from the spindle
04:03 PM Joco[m]: a SMALL amount. :-)
04:03 PM Lcvette: that is so the tool will seat
04:04 PM Lcvette: if it was flat the tool would not pull up far enough to seat
04:04 PM Joco[m]: yes. But also provides some clearance for collet
04:04 PM Joco[m]: I'll shoot for as close to flush as I can get.
04:04 PM Joco[m]: But only have the one collet so being cautious
04:05 PM Lcvette: if the collet sticks out proud it may not fully seat, not from clearance but from the movement from extended to locking not being far enough to pull the tool all the way up before locking
04:05 PM Lcvette: im sure i could explain this better
04:06 PM Joco[m]: I know what you mean. Part of the operation of the TTS system is that when the collet is tightened it is not only clamping the tool but pulling it up against the spindle
04:07 PM Joco[m]: and you need enough movement in the the vertical to get that pull
04:07 PM Lcvette: yes correct
04:07 PM Lcvette: with the collet being proud in the locked position it will extend out further when in the unclamped position not allowing the tool to get close enough to the spindle to seat when clamped
04:08 PM Lcvette: you need the tool close enough to the spindle that when it clamps it pulls up all the way yes
04:10 PM Lcvette: so even with the recessed collet when unclamped and i insert the tool it is a good little ways from being seated
04:10 PM Joco[m]: so maybe if I push a 19.1 miil rod in and machine flush with that. Then when it has a 3/3" tool in it will suck up enough?
04:10 PM Lcvette: im just not sure how much more exctension would be allowed before it won't seat
04:11 PM Lcvette: or bore a tape in some stock on your lathe and put the collet in it with a draw bar
04:11 PM Lcvette: where the edge sits proud
04:12 PM Lcvette: or maybe some shim stok around the collet taper in the bore
04:13 PM Joco[m]: Actually ... I think I have a MT3 reducer for mt MT5 head in lathe. So that could be an option.
04:14 PM Lcvette: there ya go
04:14 PM Lcvette: be easier to grind on the lathe too
04:14 PM Joco[m]: yup
04:15 PM Joco[m]: well was going to hard turn as don't have a grinder for lathe. Another thing to make at some point.
04:17 PM Lcvette: there ya go
04:17 PM Lcvette: no need for it to be super perfect
04:17 PM Lcvette: as it doesn't touch anything if all goes right
04:17 PM Joco[m]: yup
04:18 PM Joco[m]: exactly my thinking. Non critical surface
04:45 PM hazzy-m: Lcvette: VTK can’t run on a pi
04:46 PM Lcvette: Joco: I can't find that auto belt change thing anywhere but it's pretty awesome it had two belts around both levels of police and a gourd around the whole assembly and used to tensioners one on each belt and they would flip between which was tensioned and the one that was on tension the belt just popped off both bullies and laid in that guard on its own level
04:48 PM Joco[m]: that sounds impressive and complicated.
04:48 PM Joco[m]: complicated as in you would need to have your tolerances dialed in
04:50 PM Joco[m]: But I can mostly picture how it would work.
04:50 PM Joco[m]: Tensioners would be pneumatic
04:51 PM Lcvette: correct
04:51 PM Lcvette: it looked pretty simple in design
04:52 PM Joco[m]: the guards would need to be very close to pulleys. Actually there should be a slight undercut for the guard to ensure belt when loose can not get caught anywhere
04:54 PM Lcvette: suprisingly it was just a pocket slightly larger than the belt route shape and it popped right off onto the ledge
04:54 PM Joco[m]: yup - slight under cut
05:11 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: was it on youtube?
05:23 PM Lcvette: Joco: this k it was on Instagram, but may be on YouTube
06:10 PM hazzy-m: Lcvette: David Decausin used that set up on the fedals, pretty slick
06:15 PM Joco[m]: hazzy: this chap? https://www.youtube.com/user/DAVIDDECAUSSIN/videos
06:21 PM Joco[m]: hazzy: started looking at the new branch. on the whole seems to be working. a noticed a couple of redundant lines that probably sneaked in from merging. The biggest part I need to investigate is the behaviour under develop mode. I'm not sure that it reverts to defaults values when a qss line for a color is removed.
06:21 PM Joco[m]: Also - I think you got italic fonts at one point. How did you do that? I can't seem to get italic to load via the font name.
06:33 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: this what you were looking for? Or similar? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW_8BJLwJL0
06:34 PM Lcvette: yup thats the one
06:35 PM Lcvette: Joco: pretty sweet setup
06:36 PM Joco[m]: have saved that. Can be iteration two once I have proven I am comfortable with the gearing or don't need a larger motor.
06:36 PM Lcvette: lol.. iteration 2 will be going to a 3ph motor
06:36 PM Lcvette: :D
06:36 PM Lcvette: \o/
06:36 PM Lcvette: then no gearing is necessary at all
06:37 PM Joco[m]: lol - possibly
06:37 PM Joco[m]: but I'm not pushing as agressively as you do :)
06:37 PM Lcvette: and then you can use that 750 watt servo for your z axis
06:37 PM Lcvette: :D
06:37 PM Lcvette: \o/
06:37 PM Lcvette: wastenot want not
06:37 PM Joco[m]: my mate has one as well. if he's not happy I'll but off him and have two.
06:38 PM Joco[m]: Surface grinder, cnc lather ... z axis, who knows. :D
06:38 PM Joco[m]: * my mate has one as well. if he's not happy I'll buy off him and have two.
06:38 PM Joco[m]: * Surface grinder, cnc lathe ... z axis, who knows. :D
06:38 PM Lcvette: yup yup
06:53 PM hazzy-m: Joco: Yes! That's they guy
06:54 PM hazzy-m: That brings back memories, haven't looked at his stuff in years
07:03 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: been meaning to ask. Did you do add any sand/expoy composite to the g0704 column? Asking as I get some good vibration when doing steel. Ali is ok though.
07:04 PM Joco[m]: Can still get a good finish on steel with the right finishing cut receipes.
08:21 PM Lcvette: Joco: no, min we has no filter
08:21 PM Joco[m]: Coolies.
08:21 PM Lcvette: I issuable stay 3/8" or smaller tooling in steel
08:22 PM Lcvette: Usually
08:22 PM Joco[m]: I have a 12mm rougher I use but other than that 10mm is max with list at 8mm
08:23 PM Joco[m]: Opps I mean 10mm is max
08:23 PM Joco[m]: * Opps I mean 10mm is most common
08:24 PM pink_vampire: Joco[m]: I have G0704 and I have no idea where you can even put sand in the column
08:24 PM Lcvette: Having steady power helps with steel
08:25 PM Joco[m]: I believe it’s has been done. But you need to use a pipe and boxing to keep the need openings.
08:25 PM pink_vampire: but 99% of the vibrations comes from the poor gib and rails on the Z axis,
08:25 PM Joco[m]: The other pattern is to get some box section steel or Ali, fill that and bolt to back of the column.
08:26 PM Joco[m]: pink_vampire: reminds me I need to sort out some scraping gear. Want to learn that.
08:27 PM Joco[m]: Finding carbide of any size is a challenge. Maybe just stick with some HSS.
08:28 PM pink_vampire: you can do a simple test, lock the gibs on the Z axis, and also the Y axis, and feed only on the X, and see if you get less vibrations.
08:29 PM Lcvette: The motor and stiff i have on the head adds alot of weight on mine may be helping it
08:29 PM Lcvette: * The motor and power drawbar stuff i have on the head adds alot of weight on mine may be helping it
08:29 PM Lcvette: Space rotary axis
08:30 PM Lcvette: I also have a my enclosure booked to the back of the column
08:30 PM Lcvette: * I also have a my enclosure bolted to the back of the column
08:31 PM pink_vampire: also don't go more then 3/8" on that machine, and because of the slooow spindle 4 flutes are must, and for cutting steel, carbide, with make very big difference for you.
08:32 PM Lcvette: Also try and cut full depth of tool
08:32 PM Lcvette: Meaning if you need to cut 1/2" deep, use a short tool and cut at 1/2" so the full flute is supported
08:34 PM Joco[m]: Ok. Have been using carbide when can. Not all my tools are carbide. Yup - for steel all are 4 flute.
08:34 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: that weight probably is helping a bit.
08:35 PM Lcvette: Joco: another reason to go 3ph AC
08:35 PM Joco[m]: lol
08:35 PM Lcvette: My motor weighs about 50lbs
08:35 PM Joco[m]: Dog with bone. 😂
08:35 PM Joco[m]: I think Lcvette married his motor. Hi wife just doesn’t know it.
08:36 PM Joco[m]: * I think Lcvette married his motor. His wife just doesn’t know it.
08:36 PM Lcvette: Lol
08:36 PM Lcvette: Just trying to bring you to the darkside
08:39 PM Joco[m]: however, motors aside. Plan will be to go full enclosure with the back to front slipping floor per your design pic Lcvette
08:39 PM Lcvette: Good job!
08:39 PM Joco[m]: once sort the pulley/belt conversion will move into planning that.
08:41 PM Joco[m]: I might will investigate column/head spacer as well. As need to factor all that into cabinet design. Think will give me another 20-40mm travel on Y
08:43 PM Joco[m]: All good fun. And I need to get shit into gear and get the baby shaper cleaned, painted and running. Eventually I might re scrap it. Will see.
09:03 PM hazzy-m: Lcvette: I've noticed I get much better surface finishes with the new motor, I think it just runs smoother
09:04 PM Lcvette: Yeah everyone who concerts has the same experience
09:04 PM Lcvette: * Yeah everyone who converts has the same experience
09:05 PM Lcvette: Maybe the weight, maybe the constant torque giving very steady rpm through cuts
09:05 PM Lcvette: Maybe both most likely
09:05 PM hazzy-m: its a concerted effort to get everybody to switch to those motors lol
09:05 PM Lcvette: Llol
09:06 PM Lcvette: Joco, you could try bolting on some weight on the head
09:06 PM hazzy-m: seems to be the constant torque, also much smoother entering and exiting cuts in steel
09:07 PM Lcvette: Hazzy, it's like watching a movie and knowing exactly what the characters should do, yelling at the tv and then watching them do the wrong thing anyhow.... lol
09:07 PM Joco[m]: how much is this fabled motor of yours
09:07 PM Lcvette: Joco, it's not just you, so many people i talk to about motors
09:07 PM Lcvette: You can go the cheap route
09:08 PM Lcvette: Think the iron horse gp motor is like 168usd
09:09 PM Lcvette: The really good motors 1000:1 constant torque are about 350usd
09:09 PM Joco[m]: plus vector VFD
09:09 PM Lcvette: Huanyang works well
09:09 PM Lcvette: Thing they ate like 140
09:10 PM Joco[m]: shipping is what kills it for me.
09:11 PM Lcvette: No surplus places in nz?
09:11 PM Joco[m]: that 350USD item turns into 500NZD (plus 15% tax if I get pinged). Local suppliers will sell it for around 800-1000NZD
09:11 PM Joco[m]: plus tax
09:11 PM Joco[m]: <Lcvette "No surplus places in nz?"> no - market too small
09:12 PM Joco[m]: we only order in what we need. Very little local stock
09:12 PM Lcvette: So what your saying is you can get a premium for the 750w servo
09:12 PM Joco[m]: yup
09:12 PM Lcvette: 😜
09:12 PM Joco[m]: if I sell it I will probably get exactly what I paid for it
09:12 PM Joco[m]: OR I keep it for next project
09:12 PM Lcvette: So what's the difference in cost then?
09:12 PM hazzy-m: Joco: it really is an impressive motor. I have it over-driving 1:1.16 and its still has plenty of torque to run a 6" face mill in 1018 steel with a very respectable DOC, and I don't even have a vector drive running it
09:13 PM Joco[m]: e.g. cnc of Surface Grinder down the road
09:13 PM Lcvette: Hazzy we're run or Joe's at 1:1.66
09:13 PM Joco[m]: interestingly I found a 3.8Kw Servo with Driver. I can land it for $1300 incl taxes
09:13 PM Joco[m]: 2500rpm rated.

09:32 PM Lcvette: Joco
09:32 PM hazzy-m: JT: ^^
09:33 PM Lcvette: Hazzy, that's with 1:1.66 pulley ratio
09:34 PM hazzy-m: sounds great!
09:34 PM Lcvette: Turns 6k rpm at 120hz
09:34 PM Lcvette: Still tons of torque could probably go 1:2
09:35 PM Lcvette: But on g0704 pulley size become an issue

09:38 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: works really nicely.
09:38 PM Joco[m]: I might end up going down that big servo path if curent one pisses me off. Shall see. Lots to learn in the mean time.
09:38 PM Joco[m]: My wife would probably abuse me for being a gorse pockets
09:39 PM Lcvette: /o\
09:39 PM Lcvette: 3ph ac
09:39 PM Lcvette: One and done
09:39 PM Lcvette: Why experiment with such expensive stuff
09:40 PM Lcvette: Stay torque to 6k rpm
09:40 PM Joco[m]: well it's not that expensive. Actually cheaper than the 3ph stuff you are referring to. Well for me anyway
09:40 PM Lcvette: * Steady torque to 6k rpm
09:40 PM Lcvette: 1300?
09:41 PM Joco[m]: yeah - will cost me way more than that for your setup
09:41 PM Lcvette: Cheaper than 350?
09:41 PM Lcvette: You have nz debay?
09:41 PM Joco[m]: 350USD for you. Unless you have a cunning shipping plan that doesn't cost the same again
09:41 PM Lcvette: Look up huanyang vfd
09:42 PM Joco[m]: your motors are 220V?
09:42 PM Lcvette: I can quote it for you
09:42 PM Lcvette: These are available 230/460
09:42 PM Lcvette: Just by how you connect the wires in the junction box
09:42 PM Joco[m]: so ... here is my challenge and if you have a good solution I am ALL EARS. :-)
09:43 PM Joco[m]: [1] local 3ph motors are all 400+V
09:43 PM Lcvette: What's your voltage
09:43 PM Joco[m]: [2] dual volatge motors are materially more expensive. There are also next none at 220V.
09:43 PM Lcvette: What's your voltage
09:44 PM Joco[m]: * [2] dual volatge motors are materially more expensive. There are also next none at 220V second hand.
09:44 PM Lcvette: In your shop
09:44 PM Joco[m]: 220V single phase.
09:44 PM Joco[m]: 3ph in NZ is 420V
09:44 PM Lcvette: Easy peasy
09:45 PM Lcvette: Everything here that size is for 2201ph
09:45 PM Joco[m]: basically our wiring is like the UKs
09:45 PM Lcvette: You just need 220v single phase for these
09:45 PM Lcvette: 50 or 60 hz.
09:46 PM Joco[m]: I know. If I have a 3ph 220V motor I can run on a cheaper 220v VFD. It gets expenisve when I have to go 220v 1ph to 380v 3ph.
09:46 PM Lcvette: You don't have to
09:47 PM Lcvette: 220v single is what these size motors take fir the right sized vfd
09:47 PM Joco[m]: yes - 1ph220v into VFD and it spits out 220v 3ph
09:48 PM Joco[m]: I have 3 VFDs at home, did a reasonable amount of looking into what the options where and hwo they worked and the differences/advantages between V/F or Vector styles
09:49 PM Joco[m]: close loop and open loop etc
09:49 PM Joco[m]: The hurdle I have is that 220v 3ph motors are not the standard here.
09:50 PM Joco[m]: They are a special order item.
09:50 PM Joco[m]: There are none I have seen second hand in over 2 years of looking

09:51 PM Joco[m]: The only ones I have seen were either monstors that weight as much as me or we so old they should have been ina museum. lol
09:52 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: thanks for the link. $1000NZD to my door
09:53 PM Lcvette: let me see about shipping
09:53 PM Lcvette: you guys for some reason seem to think its really higher then what i am used to seeing
09:53 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: image.png (65KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/BYbayEtnkPzyLtRAWXwNanfl >
09:53 PM Lcvette: either of these would work great too
09:54 PM Lcvette: i run one of these currently on my g0704
09:55 PM Joco[m]: its probably becuase of what gets quited.
09:55 PM Joco[m]: quoted
09:55 PM Joco[m]: plus I will get pinged 15% as it comes through customs.
09:56 PM Joco[m]: and that is on both the item and shipping
09:56 PM Lcvette: i can send it with a low value
09:56 PM Lcvette: private shipment
09:56 PM Lcvette: non commercial
09:56 PM Joco[m]: key is for it to be believable.
09:56 PM Lcvette: coming from a person to a person
09:57 PM Joco[m]: yeah - still comes via customs.
09:57 PM Joco[m]: will get exrayed and all that fun stuff
09:57 PM Lcvette: i can send it with a repair tag stating non working for repair
09:57 PM Joco[m]: yup - could do that
09:57 PM Joco[m]: or surpus stock - running condition unknown
09:58 PM Joco[m]: but shipping is hurdle.
09:58 PM Lcvette: pm me your address
09:58 PM Lcvette: im about to find out what it would cost
09:58 PM Joco[m]: these motors are quite big - so would need to space the head out?
09:59 PM Lcvette: don't have too unless you do the draw bar also
09:59 PM Lcvette: with drawbar over spindle spacer is required
09:59 PM Lcvette: 2" minimum
10:00 PM Joco[m]: K.
10:05 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: For some reason I thought you motor was more than 740W (1/2 HP)
10:05 PM Lcvette: mine is 1.5hp
10:05 PM Lcvette: 1-1/2hp
10:06 PM Lcvette: but don't be fooled by power ratings
10:06 PM Lcvette: i had a treadmill motor rated at 3.8hp and it wouldn't do squat compared to the 1.5hp
10:06 PM Joco[m]: the link os for 1/2>
10:07 PM Joco[m]: ?
10:07 PM Lcvette: mislabeled, the Y366 is 1.5hp
10:07 PM Lcvette: look at the motor plate
10:08 PM Joco[m]: yeah - hence the questions. :-)
10:11 PM Lcvette: $943nzd to your door shipped express 4 day UPS
10:11 PM Lcvette: thats for the $380 Y366
10:11 PM Lcvette: total usd is $605
10:12 PM Lcvette: $380 motor $224 shipping
10:12 PM Joco[m]: cool - so shipping is pretty consistent with ebay.
10:14 PM Lcvette: big package
10:14 PM Lcvette: 45lbs 16x18x12
10:16 PM Joco[m]: yeah. I've saved it away. If I do this at the moment ... well .... you heard the phrased "balls handed to you in a jar"? That's kinda what will happen with wife. I will need to show what I have has failed and sell her on the new spend.
10:17 PM Joco[m]: I will win. It just takes time.
10:17 PM Lcvette: or..... sell the 750w
10:17 PM Lcvette: and tell her it failed
10:17 PM Lcvette: because it will
10:17 PM Joco[m]: lol
10:17 PM Lcvette: and show you recouped the loss before proceeding down the proven path
10:17 PM Joco[m]: Nah I have "plans" for it either way. I got agreement to allow me to get the surface grinder when the right one comes along. I will sell this as well. Just need to work it through a bit.
10:18 PM Lcvette: and tell her you are listening to a experienced user of the same machine that has helped you avoid a costly road of wrong motor options
10:18 PM Lcvette: so really its a blessing in disguise
10:18 PM Lcvette: and sell it hard!
10:18 PM Lcvette: obvioulsy start that day of with breakfast in bed for her
10:19 PM Lcvette: you know pancakes in the shape of hearts and what not
10:19 PM Lcvette: be the ball!
10:19 PM Joco[m]: I just need to sink her in information, reasons why its the best thing, etc etc. Ultimately she will give in. Tried and true pattern.
10:20 PM Lcvette: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HuanYang-1-5KW-220V-2HP-7A-VFD-VARIABLE-FREQUENCY-DRIVE-INVERTER/223971043839?hash=item3425b6e9ff:g:roUAAOSwj3NejY0f
10:20 PM Lcvette: my buddy russtuff uses this vfd and says it works great
10:20 PM Lcvette: think maybe hazzy uses it too
10:22 PM Lcvette: you could go the budget route with the GP motor
10:23 PM Lcvette: $553usd / $863nzd for that complete setup including the huangyang and shipping for all
10:31 PM Joco[m]: what is the difference between the motors?
10:35 PM Lcvette: the Y366 is tenv, no fan
10:35 PM Lcvette: has a 1000:1 constant torque rating meaning it has full torque at rated speed/1000 or 1800/1000=full torque from 1.8rpm to 1800rpm
10:36 PM Lcvette: the GP motor is a 4:1 constant torque so you have full torque from 450rpm-1800rpm
10:37 PM Lcvette: it is tefc fan cooled, but on the 1800rpm models this isn't so bad
10:37 PM Lcvette: i bought the 3600rpm model and its a bit noisy at 5400rpm max motor speed
10:37 PM Lcvette: so i only recommend the 1800rpm model
10:37 PM Lcvette: 2pole vs 4pol
10:37 PM Lcvette: * 2pole vs 4pole
10:38 PM Lcvette: i honestly never find myself machining anything slower than 500rpm so its not an issue for me
10:39 PM Lcvette: and with the 3600rpm motor my full torque rating rpm is 900
10:39 PM Lcvette: still has plenty of torque lower though just not full rated
10:39 PM Lcvette: the Y366 will certainly run quieter with no fan
10:39 PM Lcvette: both are inverter rated
10:40 PM Joco[m]: ok - that helps understanding
10:40 PM Lcvette: just one is better for lower rpm with a higher insulation rating
10:40 PM Lcvette: i have not been unhappy with the GP motor but at max rpm that fan is louder than i would like
10:41 PM Lcvette: but it quiets down considerable at 3600rpm which would be the maxe speed for the 4 pole motor
10:41 PM Lcvette: it is still way quieter then the stock motor with gears in the head
10:44 PM Joco[m]: and 3600 at the motor with some smlight gearing up quickly pushes that top end into 4500 to 5000 range
10:45 PM Lcvette: run a 1:1.66 pulley ratio
10:46 PM Lcvette: will give you 6000rpm top speed
10:46 PM Lcvette: and you can run it there all day long no problem for weeks on end
10:46 PM Lcvette: will be as happy as a pig in mud
10:49 PM Joco[m]: I can see this all being magically wrapped up in the "big cnc mill enclosure build of 2020" . Planning sales pitch. Loose it in a bigger thing. ;-)
10:51 PM Lcvette: these motors are seriously tanks
10:51 PM Lcvette: they are made for laborous industrial duty like this
10:51 PM Joco[m]: You have ali sheet to buy, flood coolant pumps, motors, plumbing, sealants, vfd, marine paint, protection for steppers ....
10:51 PM Lcvette: hahaha
10:52 PM Lcvette: you must have tpons of marine suppliers around you
10:52 PM Lcvette: i use a bildge pump as my coolant pump
10:52 PM Lcvette: i run it on a 24v power supply
10:52 PM Joco[m]: yeah - I have a spare 12v one. But will look to get a 24v higher flow one.
10:52 PM Joco[m]: we are an island. Lots of marine stuff about. But some shit still cheaper to source from china. So sad, but true.
10:53 PM Joco[m]: Well all the local stuff comes from there anyway. Nothing made here
10:56 PM Lcvette: i run the 12v pump on 24v
10:56 PM Lcvette: its a dc motor so it just turns faster
10:56 PM Lcvette: its been workign awesome for 9 years now
10:56 PM Lcvette: thing is indestructible i think
10:56 PM Joco[m]: oh - there you go then. I'm probably sorted on a coolant pump
10:57 PM Joco[m]: see - already started and didnt even know it. lol
10:58 PM Lcvette: boom!
10:58 PM Lcvette: :D
11:00 PM Lcvette: hazzy, i got some requests to check the run from here line and i cannot get it to work
11:03 PM Joco[m]: I thought run-from-line was experimental in linuxcnc?
11:03 PM Lcvette: is it?
11:04 PM Lcvette: i dunno im still pretty new to linuxcnc
11:04 PM Joco[m]: and I also remember comments about it being risky as there were no protections regarding the machine state
11:04 PM Lcvette: i thought maybe it was just an issue with probe basic not being connected properly
11:04 PM Lcvette: ```
11:04 PM Lcvette: [qtpyvcp.actions.program_actions][ERROR] Run from line not implemented yet. (program_actions.py:159)
11:04 PM Lcvette: [qtpyvcp.actions.program_actions][ERROR] Run from line not implemented yet. (program_actions.py:159)
11:04 PM Joco[m]: I might be mixing the two ip of course. Thinking linuxcnc lvl here not framewor
11:05 PM Lcvette: i thought we had it working
11:05 PM Lcvette: i use it alot
11:05 PM Joco[m]: qtpyvcp might not have it in place. My comments were re lcnc
11:06 PM Joco[m]: <Lcvette "i use it alot"> which gui?
11:06 PM Lcvette: machstdmill
11:06 PM Lcvette: its a mach3 screen
11:10 PM Lcvette: it is a nice function to make an adjustment in your whole cam file and rerun from a line rather than have to go in and make a seperate small cam op to run a small section
11:10 PM Lcvette: especially if you want to stop a part mid run and make a change on something
11:14 PM Joco[m]: Yeah get that. I'm just not sure who well lcnc copes with that. hazzy will have a better perspective I think
11:14 PM Joco[m]: or JT
11:19 PM Joco[m]: * Yeah get that. I'm just not sure how well lcnc copes with that. hazzy will have a better perspective I think
11:45 PM Joco[m]: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/gui/axis.html#_menu_items
11:45 PM Joco[m]: seems to do it under axis. With some warnings of course
11:46 PM Joco[m]: if could be my next focus. Unless hazzy has a specific reason for not having it hooked up yet.
