03:29 AM Joco[m]: anyone about able to talk gocde programming and what info I should be able to find from linuxcnc?
03:38 AM Joco[m]: Question: I see some interesting behaviour in the code viewer when aremaped command or o-word is called. The line number being executed reflects the file containing the o-word. What I am not sure of is if an o-word will alwys be in a different file (seems unlikely) and if not how I could tell when execution is and isn't happening in a file other than what has been loaded?
04:52 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:59 AM Joco[m]: morning JT

08:46 AM TurBoss: 🍻
08:46 AM Lcvette: :D
08:46 AM Lcvette: hey i have a question on the tool table
08:46 AM Lcvette: i ran out fo room
08:47 AM Lcvette: :(
08:47 AM Lcvette: used up all the spots
08:47 AM TurBoss: how many?
08:47 AM Lcvette: so now have to remove tools to use diffeent ones
08:47 AM Lcvette: 56
08:47 AM TurBoss: no idea
08:47 AM TurBoss: ... :(
08:48 AM Lcvette: i have 80+ tools
08:48 AM Lcvette: i was wondering if the tool library thing could work
08:48 AM JT-Shop: over achiever lol
08:48 AM Lcvette: that way the data is saved somewhere and then can populate the tool table entries
08:48 AM Lcvette: otherwise i loose the offsets and data
08:48 AM TurBoss: i know that rene was working on a table based on sqlite that could use more tools
08:49 AM Lcvette: is he still active on that endeavor?
08:50 AM TurBoss: i don't know...
08:50 AM TurBoss: not sure
08:50 AM TurBoss: thats old
08:50 AM Lcvette: yes
08:51 AM TurBoss: attacha a seccond pc
08:51 AM Lcvette: lol
08:51 AM JT-Shop: Andy made a branch with a database tool table but no one used it
08:51 AM Lcvette: it worked?
08:53 AM Lcvette: i was thinking that a tool library table with no tool limit that could select a line and populate the linuxcnc tool table would not be too difficult
08:53 AM Lcvette: that way when full you could just delete off some of the tools in linuxcnc but they always remain in the tool library
08:54 AM Lcvette: so you could just select the tool and send the data to the linuxcnc tool table
08:54 AM Lcvette: like an auto "Add Tool buton press, then copy the data from the columns of the library table to the linuxcnc table on that new tool add line
08:55 AM Lcvette: its not perfect, but it would be better than having to manually renter tools all the time
08:55 AM Lcvette: then have a auto save table and reload button press
09:20 AM JT-Shop: afaik yes it worked
09:41 AM * TurBoss uploaded an image: Captura de pantalla de 2020-06-02 16-32-00.png (186KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/tpHSnEAPCXtopQBxdGzhQKgL >
10:36 AM Lcvette: whoa, nice TUrboss!
10:36 AM Lcvette: what is it?
10:36 AM Lcvette: :o
10:37 AM TurBoss: the installer main builder 3000
10:37 AM TurBoss: want access?
10:37 AM TurBoss: requires secret password
10:37 AM Lcvette: maybe i shouldn't be allowed?
10:37 AM Lcvette: /o\
10:37 AM TurBoss: is just a button that sais build
10:37 AM TurBoss: \o/(
10:37 AM TurBoss: * \o/
10:37 AM Lcvette: lol
10:38 AM Lcvette: so no more doing it the old way?
10:38 AM TurBoss: its unatended
10:38 AM Lcvette: new way to make a new release?
10:38 AM TurBoss: on release will build and upoload
10:38 AM TurBoss: automatically
10:38 AM TurBoss: no intervention
10:38 AM Lcvette: so what are the steps top make a new release now?
10:39 AM TurBoss: push a tag
10:39 AM Lcvette: just right click in kraken and select make new release?
10:39 AM TurBoss: profit
10:39 AM Lcvette: thats it?
10:39 AM TurBoss: yes
10:39 AM Lcvette: it updates all the config files and stuff?
10:39 AM TurBoss: yes
10:39 AM TurBoss: all
10:39 AM Lcvette: wow
10:39 AM TurBoss: auto
10:39 AM Lcvette: fantastic!
10:39 AM Lcvette: soo cool
10:40 AM Lcvette: will this do updates through the installer for users?
11:20 AM TurBoss: not yet
11:22 AM TurBoss: in future if tey run the installer again will
01:29 PM Joco[m]: Morning
01:58 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: this is the thread on more tools: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-questions/29620-limit-to-number-of-tools-in-tool-table?start=20
01:58 PM Joco[m]: Looks like the db path died in 2015
02:00 PM Joco[m]: There was an issue raised with a fix to increase to 256 tools. But got closed by a dev with zero comment or reason. https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/issues/411
02:02 PM Joco[m]: However if you are prepared to tweak a couple of source files it looks like you could increase the tool table size.
02:03 PM Joco[m]: God only knows if that is a good or bad thing.
02:03 PM Lcvette: the current tool table i think uses the var file doesn't it?
02:04 PM Lcvette: think was one of the reasons it got capped
02:04 PM Joco[m]: tool.tbl
02:04 PM Lcvette: i ownder what the reason is by capping it at 56 then?
02:04 PM Lcvette: seems if it is just a file its silly to cap it so low
02:05 PM Joco[m]: The issue mentioned something about shared memory.
02:05 PM Lcvette: ah
02:05 PM JT-Shop: that's the largest that can be passed via nml
02:05 PM Lcvette: nml?
02:05 PM Joco[m]: And a copy of the file being passed about internally in linuxcnc
02:06 PM Joco[m]: As a data structure
02:06 PM Joco[m]: Nml was mentioned
02:07 PM Lcvette: so then i wonder how hard it wouold be to make the tool library file and have it capable of sending data to the tool table in linuxcnc
02:07 PM Lcvette: essentially having a database type file that could export data to the tool table
02:08 PM Lcvette: have it have the same columns as the tool table
02:08 PM Lcvette: just a much larger file with no cap
02:08 PM Joco[m]: I have seen mention of people holding al their tools in an excel file and running a wee macro to generate a tool table for the tools they intend run for a job
02:08 PM Lcvette: that way at kleast all the tools could be stored somewhere and you wouldn't have to manually remove and add in a new tool and loose all the previous data
02:09 PM Lcvette: yeah?
02:09 PM JT-Shop: that's the way information is passed between user land and real time
02:09 PM Joco[m]: lol - yup
02:10 PM Joco[m]: Sneaker net
02:13 PM Lcvette: that link it appears they were able to up the tool count to 256
02:13 PM Joco[m]: So while the 56 limit in linuxcnc and inertia in changing that is annoying it can be worked around reasonably easily. Unless you are saying a single job needs more than 56 tools.
02:13 PM Lcvette: but i am not sure anyone tested it or what the rpurcussion are from doing so
02:13 PM Lcvette: /o\
02:13 PM Joco[m]: <Lcvette "but i am not sure anyone tested "> Lcvette: yup - exactly
02:14 PM Lcvette: i suppose that until it is used in more production type environments it will remain "good enough" at 56
02:14 PM Joco[m]: And the dev just closing the issue with no comment is rank.
02:16 PM Joco[m]: Ive run 100 plus delivery teams. People who do that in the “ real world” get smacked.
02:16 PM Joco[m]: Ah well.
02:17 PM Lcvette: mach3 looks like it allows 253
02:18 PM Joco[m]: Heh. Suspiciously close to 256
02:19 PM Joco[m]: One of those magic computer numbers.
02:22 PM Lcvette: http://www.calypsoventures.com/msm_dl_files/Production%20Release/MachStdMill%20User%20Manual.pdf
02:22 PM Lcvette: check page 120
02:23 PM Lcvette: i remembered reading something about a similar setup when going over the machstdmill user manual
02:26 PM Lcvette: back to the shop
02:27 PM Joco[m]: Maybe possible to do.
02:27 PM Joco[m]: Would need to look at it a bit more.
02:37 PM Joco[m]: Looking at the linuxcnc source the comment is that 56 relates to the maximum carousal size. I thought the pocket number is what drives the carousal?
02:48 PM Joco[m]: Wednesday - halfway to the weekend.
02:53 PM Joco[m]: NEWS: just looking at the master on linuxcnc. Looks like 2.9 will have 1000 tools

03:32 PM Lcvette: what?
03:32 PM Lcvette: :o
03:32 PM Lcvette: where do you see that?
03:32 PM Lcvette: joco ^^^
03:33 PM Joco[m]: I went uber geek and started looking at the linuxcnc master branch source code
03:34 PM Lcvette: :o
03:35 PM Lcvette: do you know if it is already implemented on 2.9?
03:35 PM Lcvette: i am running 2.9 master on my dev
03:35 PM Lcvette: i will upgrade my big machine to 2.9 if that is the case
03:35 PM Lcvette: its running 2.8 currently
03:35 PM Joco[m]: even better,. Just looked at the 2.8 code branch. Can see the same in that
03:36 PM Joco[m]: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/2.8/src/emc/nml_intf/emctool.h
03:36 PM Joco[m]: line 23
03:37 PM Lcvette: oh im running master 2.8 and it refuses to allow me to add a tool
03:37 PM Joco[m]: how recent?
03:38 PM roguish[m]: Joco: look who made that change.... rene_dev
03:38 PM Joco[m]: this change was made Apr 8
03:38 PM Lcvette: oh i wonder if the qtpyvcp tool table widget is what is stopping me
03:38 PM Lcvette: i update whenever i get on the machine so it should be current as of the last day or so
03:38 PM Joco[m]: roguish: yeah. I saw he had made a branch back in 2018 on this stuff
03:39 PM roguish[m]: he's a she, and very sharp...
03:39 PM Joco[m]: kedos that he saw it through.
03:39 PM Joco[m]: she
03:39 PM Lcvette: i did not know that
03:40 PM roguish[m]: rene-dev has been working to get the whole code up to python 3
03:40 PM roguish[m]: no small effort
03:40 PM Lcvette: nice!
03:40 PM Joco[m]: yup - saw that. That would have been a big undertaking
03:40 PM Lcvette: i liked the avatar from Stranger Things
03:40 PM Lcvette: ok back to run the last parts for the head spacers
03:40 PM Lcvette: back in a bit

03:50 PM TurBoss: how can I obtain the VCP version?
03:56 PM Lcvette: vcp?
03:57 PM Joco[m]: ok - tool limit is hard coded in widget
03:57 PM Joco[m]: should be trivial fix
03:58 PM Joco[m]: about 2-3 places where 56 is hard coded.
03:59 PM Joco[m]: somone who has direct commit could tweak and push fast. I can't.
04:00 PM Lcvette: TurBoss: ^^^
04:00 PM Joco[m]: given we expect 2.8 linux it ahould be valid.
04:00 PM Lcvette: joco says the tool table limit is lifted in version 2.8
04:00 PM Lcvette: :o
04:00 PM Lcvette: can you tweak your tool table file to allow 1000 tools?
04:00 PM Lcvette: \o/
04:00 PM TurBoss: where is the tool limit?
04:00 PM Lcvette: its glorious
04:01 PM TurBoss: in the widget
04:01 PM Joco[m]: search for 56
04:01 PM Joco[m]: i nthe code.
04:01 PM TurBoss: done

04:21 PM TurBoss: yes
04:24 PM Lcvette: joco, you can use any tool number
04:24 PM Lcvette: it would allow before it was just a cap on the physical count that was an issue
04:25 PM Lcvette: so could use tool 987
04:25 PM Lcvette: wouldn't care
04:25 PM Joco[m]: I just added 75 tools via the UI and loaded tool 75. What other test would you suggest?
04:25 PM Lcvette: but if 987 was tool 57 no go

04:26 PM Lcvette: dunno
04:26 PM Lcvette: but this makes me soo happy!

07:19 PM roguish[m]: hey remember me asking about how to clean alumimum off carbide tools? well, sodium hydroxide is GREAT.
07:20 PM roguish[m]: got some 100% lye drain cleaner.
07:20 PM roguish[m]: made a pretty strong mix. put the end mill in, actually was fizing.
07:21 PM hazzy-m: Fantastic! Lye is what most outfits use to clean sap and gunk off of carbide woodworking tools before sharpening
07:22 PM roguish[m]: the aluminum looked like it was efforvesing (spelling...)
07:22 PM roguish[m]: it's the shit. mix it strong and don't splash around.
07:22 PM TurBoss: :)
07:23 PM roguish[m]: and no noticable effect on the cutting edge. at least not to my careful touch.
07:24 PM roguish[m]: also been cleaning my good, old stainless steel pots and pans. really good shit.
07:27 PM hazzy-m: Was the NaH in prill format (little BBs)? If so its really interesting stuff. It's acts like it is statically charged, and will literally jump out of the container. Its a real pain to work with. ANd since it's highly hydroscopic and stray prills will be surrounded by a significant puddle in a few hours. I hate the stuff lol
07:28 PM hazzy-m: It works a treat for cleaning glassware as well. It's make it look brand new
07:28 PM hazzy-m: but if you let it sit too long will etch it
07:35 PM roguish[m]: no, kinda between a powder and fine granuals.
07:36 PM roguish[m]: i have a pair of very heavy rubber gloves, acquired out of a lab.

08:15 PM hazzy-m: I'm going to make a few changes so that the properties are QColor types rather than strings
08:16 PM Joco[m]: way cooler to do via QSS. You can change the style on the fly
08:16 PM Joco[m]: wtih qtpyvcp started witrh the --developer flag
08:16 PM Joco[m]: or is it --development
08:16 PM hazzy-m: yes!
08:16 PM hazzy-m: --develop
08:16 PM Joco[m]: yeah - that was the REAL goal. Designer was just a nice by product
08:18 PM Joco[m]: hazzy: if there are other "codes" that we would like to be able to syntax highlight just let me know. I think it should be easy to extend.
08:23 PM Joco[m]: hazzy: are you doing something extra to get the RGB selectors in designer?
08:25 PM hazzy-m: yes, just changing the property type
08:25 PM Joco[m]: can you have more than one?
08:25 PM hazzy-m: I'm also making it add the color properties dynamically, from a dictionary of default colors. which vastly reduces the amount of code
08:26 PM hazzy-m: More than one type?
08:26 PM Joco[m]: well don't you need str for stuff coming from QSS?
08:27 PM hazzy-m: No, it will be converted to the correct type based on the property type
08:27 PM Joco[m]: okay - that's clever
08:28 PM hazzy-m: yes, QT is awesome!
08:28 PM Joco[m]: will be interested to see how you do the getter/setters from a dictionary
08:34 PM Joco[m]: I tend to like things I can easily see and put break points in.
08:34 PM Joco[m]: very "C" like :-p
08:38 PM hazzy-m: yes, and there is an advantage to that
