01:14 AM Joco[m]: poor hazzy. All roads leading to him. :-p
01:14 AM TurBoss: xD
01:14 AM TurBoss: like old rome
01:15 AM Joco[m]: git clone hazzy
01:15 AM TurBoss: I'm the 2º aboard not the glorious Leader
01:15 AM TurBoss: :_)
01:16 AM Joco[m]: I'm still working my way up to janator.
01:16 AM TurBoss: having fun?
01:16 AM Joco[m]: at the moment learning more about the work flows in github than I am anything else.
01:17 AM TurBoss: we use branch per feature
01:17 AM Joco[m]: trying to figure out the best way to create an editor branch when my pull is still in review
01:17 AM TurBoss: tomorrow will be merged
01:17 AM TurBoss: i hope
01:18 AM Joco[m]: I understand the concept. Getting it to work in practice when you have multiple features open is proving interesting
01:19 AM Joco[m]: its less the code and more the testing structures that I'm getting hung up on. Not setup for multiple test harneses
01:28 AM Lcvette1: lcvette fell asleep at the pc
01:28 AM Lcvette1: /o\
01:28 AM Lcvette1: going to bed
01:29 AM Lcvette1: night ! :D
01:29 AM Joco[m]: nite
01:31 AM TurBoss: nanit
02:21 AM Joco[m]: Sheesh. All the mono fonts in the world and our gcode editor uses courier. Gonna fix THAT.
02:30 AM TurBoss4184[m]: great
02:32 AM * Joco[m] uploaded an image: image.png (150KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/bUzUeBWRYJrQynmWMbsLMrdT >
02:33 AM Joco[m]: wayyy better than courier
04:38 AM Joco[m]: hmmm .... think I now have it adjusting the left number gutter to match the size needed based on line count of loaded prog
04:52 AM Joco[m]: yup - works
06:27 AM hazzy-m: morning
06:27 AM hazzy-m: Joco: fantastic!
06:29 AM Joco[m]: Morning. Just quietly tweaking away.
06:47 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:53 AM TurBoss: good morning
06:54 AM Joco[m]: Nite all.
06:58 AM TurBoss: nite
08:53 AM Lcvette1: > wayyy better than courier
08:53 AM Lcvette1: wow very much better!!!
08:55 AM Lcvette1: Joco: what font is that?
08:56 AM Lcvette1: and what size?
09:37 AM Lcvette1: TurBoss: i am still getting that error when trying to load a tool for the second time in the vtk
09:37 AM Lcvette1: ie used more than once with a tool in between it
09:37 AM Lcvette1: did we ever resolve that, i can't remember
09:39 AM Lcvette1: also, i have not tried it yet but my large face mill does not fit in the ATC and has to be manually loaded, so it won't be found in the carousel
09:39 AM Lcvette1: i have been working around this by having a seperate facing operation and starting it with the tool in the spindle
09:39 AM Lcvette1: but thats kind of a crutch
01:57 PM Joco[m]: <Lcvette1 "Joco: what font is that?"> It Ubuntu Mono, size 14. I did a search for popular program editor fonts. Of all the ones listed this one seemed to be reasonably standard. I do need to check on Debian 9.
02:48 PM Joco[m]: <Lcvette1 "i have been working around this "> Sounds like there needs to be a manual tool list? Essentially a list of tool numbers that are known to meed a manual too change not an atc one? If M6 has been remapped the python or ngc macro should be able to cope with that?

03:41 PM Joco[m]: If anyone using those push’s hit quirks/bugs please let me know.
03:43 PM hazzy-m: Yes! I prefer to merge things and letting any problems shake themselves out, nothings really critical so it's faster the fully testing everything, which can be hard

06:35 PM Joco[m]: Looks like sized for a couple
06:45 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: hi - was looking again at the mill enclosure photo. Is the column recessed into the back? Does that cased vibration issues at all? How did you seal things?
06:45 PM Joco[m]: * Lcvette: hi - was looking again at the mill enclosure photo. Is the column recessed into the back? Does that case vibration sound issues at all? How did you seal things?

06:58 PM Lcvette1: Multiply inches times 25.4 for millimeters
06:58 PM Lcvette1: Or 2.54 for centimeters
07:03 PM Joco[m]: yup - that's what I'm doing. :) Out with the calculator
07:03 PM Joco[m]: saving stuff to projects folder
07:08 PM Joco[m]: love your setup. My garage is soo full of shite
07:09 PM Lcvette1: I originally did not have the side to side sliding doors just a vertical lift but after I got flood coolant running I realized that was not good because it tripped on your head
07:09 PM Lcvette1: Even with the drip lip that I put on
07:09 PM Lcvette1: So I added the Left Right sliders
07:10 PM Lcvette1: But having that whole front lift up makes maintenance so much easier
07:10 PM Joco[m]: I bet it would
07:11 PM Lcvette1: And it could be made considerably narrower than where I made it
07:11 PM Lcvette1: Just a guess but probably at least a foot
07:11 PM Joco[m]: I will have to minimse to width to fit available space.
07:11 PM Joco[m]: But will look to make side panels removable to support maintenance
07:12 PM Joco[m]: Really keen on enclosure now. Next thing once sort the servo
07:12 PM Joco[m]: Need to clear off the welding table so have space to work on things
07:13 PM Joco[m]: Well ... wleding table/workbench/everything-table
07:13 PM Joco[m]: 900x1400x25mm top

07:18 PM Lcvette1: nice! thats a good neighbor to have!!
07:18 PM Joco[m]: Welding table is circa 250Kg
07:19 PM Joco[m]: * Welding table is circa 350Kg
07:20 PM Lcvette1: do you have a cnc lathe as well?
07:21 PM Joco[m]: no - only a manual lathe. A good solid one ~600KG
07:21 PM Lcvette1: ah
07:21 PM Lcvette1: gonna convert it?
07:22 PM Lcvette1: Joco: i think hazzy is gone for vacation
07:22 PM Lcvette1: :(
07:22 PM Lcvette1: i need some help with the lathe feed and speed buttons
07:22 PM Lcvette1: rules
07:22 PM Lcvette1: i finally figured out how it is supposed to work
07:24 PM Lcvette1: the RPM spindle speed mode needs to become checked anytime F/rev (G95) or F/IPM (G94) is active
07:32 PM Lcvette1: Uh oh..think my dev computer just crashed

07:34 PM Lcvette1: Joco: do you know Linux well?
07:35 PM Joco[m]: only a little
07:35 PM Joco[m]: that looks like you might have disk errirs.
07:35 PM Lcvette1: I need turboss
07:36 PM Joco[m]: I would try another reboot
07:36 PM Lcvette1: Halp!
07:36 PM Joco[m]: else you are gonna have to run fsck from that command line
07:36 PM Lcvette1: What's disk errors?
07:36 PM Lcvette1: Like the SSD went bad?
07:36 PM Joco[m]: or bits of the SSD went bad
07:37 PM Joco[m]: if you are lucky it could just be somethign in the file system got munged and the fsck command can fix it
07:39 PM Joco[m]: reboot and let me know what happens
07:41 PM Lcvette1: keeps going to this black screen of death
07:41 PM Lcvette1: same thing, won't get past it
07:41 PM Joco[m]: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2334766
07:41 PM Lcvette1: oh i need to plug in the usb keyboard
07:42 PM Joco[m]: not sure if you will be able to run fsck from the command line you get to
07:42 PM Joco[m]: can try though
07:42 PM Joco[m]: fsck /dev/sda1
07:43 PM Joco[m]: then when it asks you to either ignore or fix things answer y
07:44 PM Joco[m]: re the rules stuff - i can probably help a bit. I'm getting more familiar with how to work out what is happening under the hood
08:07 PM Joco[m]: progress?
08:23 PM Lcvette1: No, couldn't get it to do anything
08:23 PM Lcvette1: :(
08:24 PM Lcvette1: Work on It after wife time
08:27 PM Joco[m]: ok. You probably need to boot using a USB drive
10:11 PM hazzy-m: Lcvette: I've had that happen before, fsck worked, but I had to run it a few times
10:12 PM Joco[m]: hazzy: hey. Thanks for completing the merge/pull. :-)
10:13 PM Lcvette1: how do i run fsck
10:13 PM Lcvette1: ?
10:13 PM Lcvette1: hazzy: ^^^
10:13 PM Joco[m]: do you have a usb key with linux mint or some other modern linux installed on it?
10:13 PM Joco[m]: You might have used it to install your machine
10:14 PM Lcvette1: i tried typing in fsck and it just says:
10:14 PM Lcvette1: fsck from util-linux 2.29.2
10:14 PM Lcvette1: no
10:14 PM Joco[m]: ok ...
10:14 PM Joco[m]: rewind
10:14 PM Lcvette1: i installed from the debian stretch iso for linuxcnc
10:14 PM Joco[m]: you have tried to boot and you are at that command prompt?
10:15 PM Lcvette1: right now it says:
10:15 PM Lcvette1: (initramfs)
10:15 PM Joco[m]: k
10:15 PM Joco[m]: type ```fsck /dev/sda1```
10:16 PM Lcvette1: its doing something with that

10:17 PM Lcvette1: i said Y
10:17 PM Lcvette1: :D
10:17 PM Joco[m]: yup- thats right
10:17 PM Lcvette1: ok it says file system was modified
10:17 PM Joco[m]: correct
10:17 PM Lcvette1: back to (inittramfs)
10:18 PM Joco[m]: but command finished ok?
10:18 PM Lcvette1: * back to (initramfs)
10:18 PM Lcvette1: now says clean when i run that command you said
10:18 PM Lcvette1: what now?

10:51 PM Lcvette1: yup
10:51 PM Lcvette1: did that
10:51 PM Lcvette1: hurray!
10:51 PM Joco[m]: k. so if you have removed riot then yes reinstall
10:51 PM Lcvette1: reinstalled riot and no error anymore
10:51 PM Joco[m]: WIN
10:52 PM Lcvette1: \o/
10:52 PM Lcvette1: is it morning there?
10:52 PM Joco[m]: make a note in a note pad so if happens again you can fix
10:52 PM Lcvette1: its noted here
10:52 PM Joco[m]: 3:43pm on Friday
10:52 PM Lcvette1: this has search function
10:52 PM Lcvette1: oh great
10:52 PM Lcvette1: TGIF!
10:53 PM Lcvette1: \o/
10:54 PM Joco[m]: yeah. Going to try and make the motor mount standoffs on mill this weekend. Think they need to be about 40mm tall
10:54 PM Joco[m]: just not sure I have the right Ali stock
10:55 PM Joco[m]: might have to pop in and get some on Saturday monring
10:55 PM Lcvette1: all that depends on the spindle pulley arrangement you use
10:55 PM Joco[m]: have modeled that up as well
10:56 PM Joco[m]: dual pulleys for 6 rib 160J belts looks to be 32mm
10:56 PM Lcvette1: for that motor a 4 rib would be fine
10:57 PM Lcvette1: might give you some more space
10:57 PM Joco[m]: 6 rib already on order. Basically doing same as the PM25 mills.
10:58 PM Joco[m]: Agree that 4 should be fine. But I figured if its good enough for them then who am I to argue.
10:59 PM Lcvette1: right
11:00 PM Lcvette1: you can make your motor stand risers with tube
11:00 PM Lcvette1: so if needed you can turn them down until you have the right height
11:01 PM Lcvette1: 2 6 ribs is going to be tall
11:02 PM Lcvette1: Joco: gonna be more than 40mm
11:02 PM Joco[m]: 32mm
11:02 PM Lcvette1: for one
11:03 PM Joco[m]: why? I modeled a pully based on specs and a single pullet is 16mm
11:04 PM Lcvette1: mine are 0.88"
11:04 PM Lcvette1: 22mm
11:05 PM Lcvette1: but i guess if you have no flanges on them maybe shorter
11:05 PM Joco[m]: I'll ask the guy who has the PM25 mill for his dual ratio pulley height
11:05 PM Joco[m]: yes - no flang
11:05 PM Joco[m]: until I know I need a flange
11:06 PM Lcvette1: gonna have fun cutting those last grooves next to the larger diameter
11:06 PM Joco[m]: I expect some level of flang will be in plac, at least for the spindle one.
11:06 PM Lcvette1: going to need to make a special tool
11:06 PM Joco[m]: yup. Was the plan to make a HSS tool for cuts
11:08 PM Lcvette1: doing this on the manual lathe?
11:08 PM Joco[m]: yup
11:08 PM Joco[m]: old school
11:08 PM Lcvette1: have dro?
11:08 PM Joco[m]: yup
11:08 PM Lcvette1: good, gonna need it
11:08 PM Joco[m]: would not want to do without DRO
11:08 PM Lcvette1: think you can make the pulley form tool?
11:10 PM Lcvette1: ive never made a lathe tool
11:10 PM Joco[m]: have watched how a number of people have done this and essentially it is a singlepoint threading tool. offset style for getting close to the shoulder.Just with a 40deg angle not 60 or 55.
11:10 PM Lcvette1: so i don't know but it looks like it would be challenging
11:11 PM Joco[m]: we like challenging :)
11:11 PM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: image.png (119KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/ICLUyRTNrJtUQWuumKRRhOYy >
11:12 PM Joco[m]: yup - have all that. Have a full on doc with all the nasty calcs in it. Used that to create my Fusion model
11:12 PM Lcvette1: thats my fusion model
11:12 PM Lcvette1: you need cnc lathe
11:12 PM Lcvette1: :D
11:13 PM Lcvette1: i made my first ones on the mill
11:13 PM Joco[m]: lol - would be nice but I can't have everything
11:13 PM Lcvette1: is your machine already cnc's and running?
11:13 PM Joco[m]: mill?
11:13 PM Lcvette1: yeah
11:13 PM Joco[m]: yup
11:13 PM Joco[m]: fully functional
11:14 PM Lcvette1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QucGaWH7fQI
11:14 PM Lcvette1: then cnc it
11:14 PM Lcvette1: thats my G0704
11:15 PM Joco[m]: what is the stock held in?
11:15 PM Lcvette1: R8 lathe chuck
11:15 PM Lcvette1: but I imaging they make MT lathe chuck holders also
11:16 PM Lcvette1: whaty is your mt3?
11:16 PM Lcvette1: https://www.amazon.com/Precision-Lathe-Chuck-Shank-Non-Rotating/dp/B07JBCF599
11:17 PM Lcvette1: Joco: ^^^
11:17 PM Lcvette1: i used to use the G0704 ALL the time as a lathe
11:18 PM Lcvette1: only downside was not having a tail stock
11:18 PM Lcvette1: but if memory serves i think i was able to turn up to like 6" parts
11:18 PM Joco[m]: mt3
11:19 PM Lcvette1: i just make a plate that bolted to the table and held the tsail stock and a spacer block i used drop the head down on and level
11:19 PM Lcvette1: then just tighten it up and go to town
11:19 PM Lcvette1: make a config for it for a lathe
11:19 PM Lcvette1: linuxcnc won't know any better
11:19 PM Lcvette1: i first did it to turn a tapered part i needed
11:20 PM Joco[m]: interesting
11:21 PM Lcvette1: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33000139308.html?spm=2114.search0302.3.296.30e34434bOaRcS&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_0,searchweb201603_0,ppcSwitch_0&algo_pvid=78306e9d-e950-4014-a399-084f0677b6d2&algo_expid=78306e9d-e950-4014-a399-084f0677b6d2-41
11:21 PM Lcvette1: if you have lathe chucks
11:21 PM Lcvette1: can just get the MT3 adapter
11:21 PM Lcvette1: im tellin ya its nice having cnc lathe capabilities for hard to make parts like this
11:22 PM Lcvette1: that one is for a 125mm chuck
11:22 PM Lcvette1: nice!
11:22 PM Lcvette1: gives you some decent size to work with
11:24 PM Joco[m]: yeah - liking it
11:24 PM Joco[m]: for some small and fiddly stuff the cnc lathe could be rather handy.
11:25 PM Joco[m]: heh I had been toying with CNC'inmy old lathe. I just dont have enough space.
11:25 PM Joco[m]: but I got a good price on it which helped pay for the big lathe
11:26 PM Joco[m]: And I do rather enjoy the manual lathe and mill work.
11:26 PM Lcvette1: nice!
11:26 PM Joco[m]: No doubt the cnc mill will spoil me. :-p
11:27 PM Lcvette1: indeed
11:28 PM Lcvette1: I really started considering mounting a little 7x10 headstock on the G0704 column facing forward and having a little motor turn it
11:28 PM Lcvette1: just so it would be super easy to use it as a cnc lathe without having to reconfigure the mill and take the head out of tram
11:28 PM Lcvette1: but then i got a lathe
11:29 PM Lcvette1: i think a machine like that would be awesome
11:29 PM Lcvette1: kind of like a mini version of a horizontal vertical
11:32 PM Joco[m]: I am going to build a 4th axis.
11:33 PM Lcvette1: me too
11:33 PM Joco[m]: but this idea with the head is quite cool. Just need to figure out how/if I can make it happen. Ali express orders are taking !.5 months at the moment.
11:33 PM Lcvette1: i have a nice harmonic drive for it and all the material
11:33 PM Lcvette1: but its on my things to do
11:33 PM Joco[m]: Harmonic drives are nasty expensive here.
11:33 PM Joco[m]: And second hand is like hens teeth
11:34 PM Lcvette1: I got mine a while ago
11:35 PM Lcvette1: think its a 40-160
11:35 PM Lcvette1: or no oits a csf-32-100
11:35 PM Lcvette1: * think its a csf-32-100
11:36 PM Joco[m]: ah well. I'll probably much about with a big stepper driver and some pneumatic clamping
11:36 PM Joco[m]: * ah well. I'll probably muck about with a big stepper driver and some pneumatic clamping
11:42 PM Lcvette1: Ebay had harmonic drives
11:42 PM Lcvette1: That's where i got mine
11:42 PM Lcvette1: Thin ppl i paid like $279
11:43 PM Lcvette1: But i see they have gone up a bit
11:43 PM Lcvette1: * Think i paid like $279
11:48 PM Joco[m]: getting popular
