01:48 AM Joco[m]: can I adjust the size of pushbuttons via QSS?
01:50 AM Joco[m]: cracked it
01:50 AM Joco[m]: min-width: 74px;

02:09 AM Joco[m]: for anyone interested
05:14 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:15 AM Joco[m]: JT-Cave: morning JT
05:22 AM JT-Cave: yo
05:29 AM Joco[m]: tumble weeds in he
05:29 AM Joco[m]: here
06:22 AM hazzy-m: I'm not real fluent with PLC stuff or safety system design, but our controls engineer is out because of corona so I'm trying to middle thru it. It took me
06:22 AM hazzy-m: morning
06:23 AM hazzy-m: Lol, did that message just finally send?
06:23 AM Joco[m]: looks like it
06:24 AM Joco[m]: about to hit the hay
06:24 AM Joco[m]: I need to go back to the gcode editor. It needs some more love. But know that I can step through code I think will have some more success.
06:25 AM Joco[m]: The file save stuff is just not where I want it. Also want to try and improve how it shows the currently executing line.
06:26 AM Joco[m]: another branch. Already having a challenge keeping two in synch
06:36 AM JT-Cave: morning hazzy-m
06:51 AM tommylight: ?
06:51 AM tommylight: Oh good, i can say something ! :)
06:51 AM JT-Cave: hi tommylight
06:51 AM tommylight: morning, afternoon and evening to all
06:59 AM andrewbeck: hi guys first time on here. just want to see if anyone can hear me.
07:00 AM JT-Cave: can't hear anything here
07:02 AM andrewbeck: sorry that should say can anyone see the messages I write
07:16 AM tommylight: yup
07:18 AM Lcvette: morning
07:19 AM tommylight: afternoon here
07:19 AM Lcvette: afternoon tommylight:
07:19 AM Lcvette: o/
07:20 AM tommylight: morning LC
07:20 AM Lcvette: you know about lathes?
07:20 AM Lcvette: interfaces
07:21 AM Lcvette: finishing up getting probe basic lathe going
07:22 AM tommylight: not much, although ido have 2 of them now, i had 3 till new years
07:22 AM tommylight: shame on me
07:22 AM Lcvette: lol
07:23 AM tommylight: I use the manual ones a lot to make some simple parts, thats about it
07:23 AM tommylight: but i did power on the Mazak yesterday and found out that in 3 years of sitting idle, it decided to die on me
07:24 AM Lcvette: oh no
07:25 AM Lcvette: dies doing nothing?
07:25 AM Lcvette: /o\
07:25 AM Lcvette: maybe mice got in the wiring?
07:25 AM Lcvette: or the battery memory thing went dead
07:26 AM tommylight: mice, plenty of them and lizards everywhere
07:26 AM tommylight: :)

07:27 AM Lcvette: im nnot super familiar with all this stuff
07:28 AM Lcvette: the f/rev, css stuff
07:28 AM Lcvette: i am familiar with f/ipm
07:28 AM Lcvette: trying to make sure i have this all setuyp right
07:29 AM Lcvette: have it so it asks you to enter a number for each one?
07:29 AM Lcvette: if you want to change the typ
07:29 AM Lcvette: * if you want to change the type
07:30 AM tommylight: f/rev is feed per revolution
07:30 AM Lcvette: yup
07:30 AM tommylight: css is constant surface speed
07:30 AM Lcvette: i know what they are
07:30 AM Lcvette: just not how to use them interfacewise
07:31 AM tommylight: that will change the spindle speed the deper (near centre) it goes
07:31 AM tommylight: closer to centre more speed
07:31 AM tommylight: those ar all values that should be entered based on material and tool used
07:32 AM tommylight: but there my knowledge stops abruptly
07:37 AM Lcvette: right
07:37 AM Lcvette: lol
07:37 AM Lcvette: mine too
07:38 AM Lcvette: im looking for more of what the itnerface should be feeding back
07:39 AM Lcvette: i am guessing the buttons should have a rule to show as active based on which mode is active
07:39 AM Lcvette: from a program
07:39 AM Lcvette: would they be something that is changed manually, if so which ones etc
07:46 AM hazzy-m: andrewbeck: hello, you made it here!
07:48 AM Lcvette: andrewbeck: I can see you! \o/ hurray!
07:49 AM Lcvette: Morning hazzy o/
07:49 AM andrewbeck: hey hey maybe someone can hear me
07:50 AM andrewbeck: It is 1 am here and I better go to bed soon but can answer some questions first
07:51 AM Lcvette: Great
07:51 AM Lcvette: It's 8:42am here
07:52 AM Lcvette: You are near joco I think
07:52 AM andrewbeck: you are just starting your day.. and I am finishing it
07:52 AM Lcvette: Hahahaha
07:52 AM andrewbeck: ok so what do you want to know about css and rpm?
07:53 AM Lcvette: I was up until 2am last night
07:53 AM Lcvette: I am just trying to figure how all of those should function in the interface
07:54 AM Lcvette: As I have not used them before
07:54 AM andrewbeck: on the other controllers I have used CSS is set by the program usually at the start of it. with a G code
07:54 AM Lcvette: I don't know what to expect of the interface actions to make it correct
07:54 AM andrewbeck: But of course when manually machining it is nice to have a button to turn on CSS or off.
07:55 AM Lcvette: Ok, so it's not something that should be set manually also?
07:56 AM andrewbeck: being able to set it manually would be good also
07:57 AM Lcvette: Ah ok
07:57 AM Lcvette: It can be both
07:57 AM Lcvette: I just want sure if it should
07:57 AM Lcvette: Ok so both it is
07:58 AM andrewbeck: here are a couple of scenarios.. you are just facing a part. you have the option to use CSS or not. so you would use the MPG and face the part in and as the tool gets closer to the centre the spindle speeds up
08:00 AM andrewbeck: But CSS can be a pain sometimes. when you have a large workpiece and you don't want to spin it too fast. if you use CSS you have to set a maximum rpm as well to make sure that things are safe
08:01 AM andrewbeck: in this case using just a standard RPM mode is better as you can set a safe speed that you know will be ok and then you don't have to worry about the job coming out of the lathe because of the max speed
08:01 AM Lcvette: Ah
08:01 AM Lcvette: True
08:02 AM andrewbeck: does that make sense?
08:02 AM Lcvette: Is there a setting for max safe rpm to use with cash in linuxcnc?
08:02 AM Lcvette: I didn't see anything
08:03 AM andrewbeck: I don't know but you definitely want a max RPM setting
08:03 AM andrewbeck: otherwise bad things happen.
08:04 AM Lcvette: I can only use what's available I linuxcnc
08:04 AM andrewbeck: there must be. as you face as the tool gets to the centre, dia becomes zero. and the speed automatically goes to whatever is the max rpm for that program on most controls
08:05 AM Lcvette: Ie if it's not in the core of linuxcnc already that would be an item they had to add in linuxcnc dev
08:06 AM andrewbeck: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Lathe_Advanced_Features
08:06 AM Lcvette: I will look
08:06 AM andrewbeck: just did a google search and it looks like they have a max rpm setting
08:07 AM andrewbeck: 1. CSS (Constant Surface Speed)(Done)A G-code (possibly G97) that would change the speed defined by S from RPM to the peripherial speed of the part being turned. The effect of this being that turning something with a smaller diameter gives a higher RPM, and that this adjustment of the rotational speed is constantly changing during facing. For
08:07 AM andrewbeck: example a face turning operation that begins at the outside edge of the part would start with a low speed, and then reach a predefined max RPM. Somewhere (in commercial lathes this is defined either as a G-code or in a seperate register) there is a max RPM defined, that limits the RPM range so it doesn't go over a certian speed.Example code:...G92
08:07 AM andrewbeck: S3000 (Sets the max rpm to 3000rpm)G96 F0.25 (Sets feedrate to 0.25 units/rev)G97 S200 (Sets speed to 200 CSS (typically meters/min))...G95 S1000 (Sets speed back to RPM, possibly for drilling. Feedrate still in units/rev)...G97 S100 (Sets speed back to CSS)...
08:07 AM Lcvette: Get some sleep
08:08 AM andrewbeck: so it would definitely be a very good idea to have a button that calls a piece of G code to set the max speed
08:08 AM Lcvette: We will be here in the morning
08:08 AM andrewbeck: Haha. yes you are right. I have some jobs to run on the cnc mill tomorrow. Using probe basic too probably! thanks so much for making it guys
08:09 AM andrewbeck: I am slowly getting to grips with it. and liking it so much
08:09 AM andrewbeck: catch you later
08:35 AM roguish[m]: good morning, once again.....
08:36 AM JT-Cave: yo
08:39 AM Lcvette1: roguish: did you find the files?
09:08 AM roguish[m]: Lcvette: got past that. no problem. I was trying PB on my mill yesterday. clicking away here and there. somewhere, and I don't right now recall where, I got an error. i'll try again and this time see if I can record where and what error.
09:09 AM roguish[m]: also, do you have any plans to fill in the 'conversational' section?
09:09 AM Lcvette1: yes
09:09 AM Lcvette1: but not priority at the moment
09:09 AM Lcvette1: would love it if i could get some help as i think it will be a big undertaking
09:10 AM Lcvette1: would like to finish up lathe first
09:10 AM roguish[m]: also, when an axes are homed, are the buttons or anything supposed to change color or something to indicate the homed condition?
09:10 AM Lcvette1: the dro's change
09:10 AM Lcvette1: unhomed is red
09:11 AM Lcvette1: homing is yuellow
09:11 AM Lcvette1: homed is black and the home button changed to homed
09:11 AM Lcvette1: or machine referenced
09:12 AM Lcvette1: can't recall as im not in front of the machine at the moment
09:12 AM roguish[m]: no prob. just curious.
09:12 AM Lcvette1: yes changes to homed
09:13 AM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: Screenshot_2020-05-20_10-03-56.png (18KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/DdMaYMrkolIwCHElnPBJJRgX >
09:13 AM roguish[m]: JT has some 'conversational' stuff in his BP-6. maybe he'll let you use some code............

09:14 AM Lcvette1: difference between homed and unhomed above
09:15 AM Lcvette1: i haven't needed it on the mill yet but was thninking maybe there should be an "unhome option
09:15 AM roguish[m]: why 'ref' rather than 'home'
09:15 AM Lcvette1: * i haven't needed it on the mill yet but was thninking maybe there should be an "unhome" option
09:16 AM Lcvette1: i never called it home before, it was always reference
09:16 AM Lcvette1: just from my ecxperience
09:16 AM Lcvette1: with other machines
09:17 AM roguish[m]: i've only run linuxcnc, and a Haas. both use 'home'
09:17 AM roguish[m]: an old Haas.
09:17 AM Lcvette1: tit/tat
09:17 AM Lcvette1: both mean same thing
09:17 AM Lcvette1: some will be more fmailiar with home some with reference
09:17 AM roguish[m]: exactly.
09:18 AM Lcvette1: can modify to suit for your preference
09:18 AM roguish[m]: not being critical. just comments.........
09:18 AM Lcvette1: pretty easy
09:18 AM Lcvette1: yes sure
09:18 AM Lcvette1: i honestly used home because on the 5 axis referenced did nbot fit in the button
09:18 AM Lcvette1: lol
09:19 AM Lcvette1: soo... nothing super scientific about it..lol
09:19 AM roguish[m]: did you make a probe?
09:19 AM Lcvette1: MACHINE REFERENCED would be what i wanted in there
09:19 AM Lcvette1: make a probe?
09:19 AM Lcvette1: no
09:19 AM Lcvette1: waste of time
09:20 AM Lcvette1: the Drewtronics probes are absolutely fantastic and very eccurate and cost is low
09:20 AM Lcvette1: think they are like $179 shipped
09:20 AM Lcvette1: https://drewtronics.org/s5000led
09:21 AM Lcvette1: no brainer just to buy one
09:21 AM Lcvette1: would take me forever to make something and the result would likely not be as accurate
09:22 AM Lcvette1: he builds everything on a really nice c axis lathe with live tooling for the legs so the spacing and everything is consistent
09:22 AM Lcvette1: as compared to other less expensive options i have seen that don't quite read as accurate as i have found this one too
09:22 AM roguish[m]: how about a tool setter?
09:22 AM Lcvette1: i get repeatability in the 0.0001 +/- range
09:23 AM Lcvette1: i don't have one yet, but Drewtronics is about to release one and i will be getting one from him as well
09:23 AM Lcvette1: i still use an analog tool setter
09:24 AM roguish[m]: https://vers.by/en/https://vers.by/en/
09:24 AM Lcvette1: but i actually enjoy setting the tools that way
09:24 AM Lcvette1: even though not as fast
09:24 AM Lcvette1: drewtronics has a wireless unit too
09:25 AM Lcvette1: https://drewtronics.org/s5100-wireless
09:30 AM Lcvette1: ok time to fabricate some steel tools for orders!

01:40 PM Lcvette1: Rollin Rollin Rollin.. keep those windmill Rollin...lol
02:08 PM hazzy-m: nice
02:38 PM Joco[m]: Morning all. Another day closer to the weekend
02:56 PM Joco[m]: Im going to start hacking the gcode display/editor again cose want to improve some stuff for my use cases. Any requests while i have the hood up?
04:05 PM hazzy-m: Joco: it would be nice if the side bar for the line numbers expanded as needed, rather than being fixed width, but that's pretty minor
04:24 PM Joco[m]: hazzy: I'll have a look while I'm in there. Concious of you having quite a bit of real world work on so if easier I can cancel my pull request and do one later with a bigger change set. I'm getting myself tied in knots on my side trying to keep things separate and having a working code base I can use.

04:31 PM Lcvette1: Pretty decent sidewall finishes for cutting 1.75" depth of cut finish pass
04:32 PM Lcvette1: @joco_nz:matrix.org: those pulleys are for a G0704 😱
04:32 PM Joco[m]: was looking at them. Nice
04:33 PM Joco[m]: I have to pull my BF20 head apart and do some measurements. There are slight differences between the models.
04:35 PM Joco[m]: I checked my 6061 round and I have the sizes I need to make pulleys. Have modeled out what they need to look like in rough form. Now need some proper dimensions so can complete. Then have to grind a 40 degree single point "threading" like tool on the Deckel clone to make the rib grooves.
04:35 PM Joco[m]: But - measure, model, plan first.
04:37 PM Lcvette1: Nice
04:43 PM Joco[m]: Just need to do the ground work. Then can start making parts.
04:43 PM Joco[m]: Also will inform what size belt to get. Pretty sure it will be 160J
04:43 PM Joco[m]: Just want to make sure the distances prove that
04:46 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: been thinking about your 1:1.5 and 1.5:1 ratio recommendation. Really like that as seems to give very good band. heck even a slight over clock on the rated rpms will push top rpm up to 5k.
04:57 PM Lcvette1: yeah give it a test
04:57 PM Lcvette1: i like the 3ph motor still :D
04:58 PM Lcvette1: 0-6000rpm no belt changes
04:58 PM Lcvette1: full torque from 0-3000rpm full horsepower from 3000-6000rpm
04:59 PM Lcvette1: the beauty of a vector motor
04:59 PM Lcvette1: but that 750 may suprise you torque wise
04:59 PM Lcvette1: and if it doesn't it will make an excellent z axis servo motor
04:59 PM Lcvette1: :D
04:59 PM Lcvette1: \o/
04:59 PM Lcvette1: repurpose for the win!
05:04 PM Joco[m]: rate is 2.4Nm and peak is 9Nm and out of the box config is able to hold 200% rated torque before doing a fault and will not fault until exceed 200% for 8 seconds.
05:04 PM Joco[m]: All configurable in driver
05:13 PM Joco[m]: yup - always a way to use it.
05:15 PM Joco[m]: Been modelling the typical cutting work I do on my mill with that nice calculator you showed me. Torque and HP wise I am well withing the standard limits and the peak torques needed to cope with potential direction changes in the tool path are within the peak torques the motor is spec'd for. I would doubt they would last more than 8 seconds and if needed I can push that out to 10-12 seconds via config.
05:16 PM Lcvette1: hahahaha speaking of torque at tool direction changes
05:16 PM Lcvette1: man i almost stalled my big machines motor earlier today
05:16 PM Joco[m]: yikes!
05:16 PM Joco[m]: What the heck were you doing?
05:17 PM Lcvette1: was doing an adaptive clearing 2d strategy and had selected both way machining
05:17 PM Joco[m]: in Ali?
05:18 PM Lcvette1: i was machining a notch 1" deep and i didn't notice that it has a wierd tool path change where it went full width into the tool AFER adaptive had started, never seen that
05:18 PM Lcvette1: yes
05:18 PM Joco[m]: ah. Dodgey tool path.
05:19 PM Joco[m]: Gotcha. On my wee machine when doing gummy Ali I need to be concisous of DoC and Width.
05:19 PM Joco[m]: I always run a simulation to check and also run a simulation in an external tool for something that I have never done before
05:19 PM Joco[m]: But that is cose I'm a newbie
05:23 PM * Joco[m] uploaded an image: image.png (1618KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/BuLHYtmvXDKYaNXsYPFotEfn >
05:23 PM Joco[m]: I found this pic online.
05:23 PM Joco[m]: Soo going to do this. I don't have the space for a full enclosure but this off the table I can totally do.
05:24 PM Joco[m]: And I have a good amount of 3mm ali sheet I can use. Get to practice some Ali TIG welding
05:27 PM Lcvette1: full enclosure isn't too big on my machine
05:28 PM Lcvette1: if you have the space for the table to travel left and right full distance and forward, then full enclosure shouldn't be an issue of space
05:28 PM Joco[m]: Just a factor the space where I have mine snugged in and what else is around it
05:29 PM Lcvette1: but if the table is moving the full distance, then the enclosure only add's about 1" on each side
05:30 PM Lcvette1: lol
05:30 PM Lcvette1: so if you have that big bulbous thing mounted to the table its going to travel into the same space an enclosure would be
05:30 PM Lcvette1: and that thing isn't gonna do much of anyhting to keep chips in
05:30 PM Joco[m]: This smaller moving enclosure around the table will be way easier to implement and integrated into the space. A full ensclosure would be nice but is not practical in the short/medium term.
05:30 PM Joco[m]: Yeah but I have over hang on to existing bench space which I can use when machine is not in use. Would loose it with a full enclosure. And bench space is VERY precious.
05:30 PM Lcvette1: mine is 30" tall above the table and a facemill still manages to kick chips out
05:31 PM Lcvette1: ok
05:31 PM Lcvette1: you are new still
05:31 PM Lcvette1: you will eventually understand why full enclosure is the ojnly good option
05:31 PM Lcvette1: :d
05:31 PM Joco[m]: lol
05:32 PM Lcvette1: so you will get double the experience points doing it twice
05:32 PM Lcvette1: my strong recommendation is do it right the first time
05:33 PM Lcvette1: avoid the headache and hindsight regrets
05:33 PM Lcvette1: the minute dspace you will sacrifice will be well worth it
05:34 PM Joco[m]: Well not committed to anything yet. We shall see. Means I need to pull machine off stand etc. Whole top build, chip and water proofing. *** sigh ***
05:34 PM Lcvette1: i just built a whole pan for my lathe in half a day
05:35 PM Lcvette1: its really not hat bad
05:35 PM Joco[m]: I don't have breaks or anything like that. no shears
05:36 PM Lcvette1: i cut it out with harbor freight shears
05:36 PM Lcvette1: the hand held plug in kind
05:36 PM Lcvette1: then had a place fold it
05:36 PM Joco[m]: You using ali or tin sheet?
05:36 PM Lcvette1: if all they have to do is bend it up it won't cost hardly anything
05:36 PM Lcvette1: aluminum
05:37 PM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: image.png (447KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/kNHrwLTJNoBnpYJnOSPgnaFN >
05:37 PM Lcvette1: welded seams are leak proof
05:37 PM Joco[m]: what thickness Ali sheet?
05:37 PM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: image.png (326KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/GGiFCwAZFVxmORvjuhuvYJsB >
05:37 PM Lcvette1: leak testing after welding
05:38 PM Lcvette1: no leaks
05:38 PM Joco[m]: yup - did all that when making coolant tanks for me and mates bandsaws
05:38 PM Lcvette1: so just make the enclosure
05:38 PM Lcvette1: the pan is the hardest part
05:39 PM Lcvette1: use sheet aluminum for the back
05:39 PM Lcvette1: and use polycarb for the side and front wings
05:39 PM Lcvette1: then use polycarb for the doors
05:39 PM Lcvette1: easy peasy
05:40 PM Joco[m]: what thickness ali did you use for the pan?
05:40 PM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: IMG_20170302_141834532.jpg (4445KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/LGPcNobaRjYKZjbWkahgFpzP >
05:40 PM Lcvette1: i made mine a good bit larger then it needed to be
05:41 PM Lcvette1: i made it the same width on both sides but the side the motor is NOT on does not need to be as long
05:41 PM Lcvette1: i used think i used 1/8" or 11 gauge
05:42 PM Lcvette1: it required no additional support and support the upper walls fine
05:42 PM Joco[m]: circa 3mm
05:42 PM Joco[m]: 3mm is pretty stiff
05:44 PM Joco[m]: Will get the motor stuff done. Then can see how much shit gets thrown about. Will start a model for the pan in Fusion. At least I can convert it to sheet metal folding schematic after wards.
05:44 PM Lcvette1: you can cut it with a circular saw or table saw
05:44 PM Lcvette1: cuts great with either
05:44 PM Joco[m]: Assume you have the mill bolted to something solid under the pan. You just use some sealant goop around those holes?
05:44 PM Lcvette1: the stock base
05:44 PM Joco[m]: I have an Ali blade for my tablesaw.
05:45 PM Joco[m]: Have done all that before. Ali fab doesn't scare me
05:45 PM Lcvette1: it really is a simple setup
05:46 PM Joco[m]: Ihave a cutom stand I build. Wide, mounting points for mill, space under it for shelves and the tool box
05:47 PM Joco[m]: All I will be doing is replacing the existing top pan with a new one designed for this. I might need to make a riser plate for the mill to sit on so have enough clearance for the X motor at the end of its tarvel. It's a NEAM34, so chunky
05:52 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: That's an awesome pic. If you have any others you can share would appreciate. Saving them off to a mill upgrades folder. :)
06:13 PM Lcvette1: i would not do the pan the same way if i were to do it again
06:13 PM Lcvette1: i would slope it forward, not down to the base
06:13 PM Lcvette1: be much easier to clean up
06:14 PM Lcvette1: i also have a washdown hose that makes washing it to down easy bu diugging under the table to get chips sucks
06:21 PM Joco[m]: I can see that - slope forward and to the base
06:23 PM Lcvette1: slope forward with a little trough to collect the chips and drain the coolant
06:24 PM Joco[m]: or just slope forward across the whole length. and have the mill slightly up. i.e. mill base on a 25mm riser and have the pan flush with riser top at the back and flush with bottom at the front. Perhaps with the trough as you noted.
06:25 PM Lcvette1: sek
06:25 PM Joco[m]: sorry - crap at visualising this stuff

06:29 PM Joco[m]: hazzy: tech question - I should have my local and git-hub setup with your master repo as a remote?
06:29 PM Joco[m]: I mean upstream remote
06:30 PM Joco[m]: to help manage coding workflow better. Cose from what I can read that will alllow me to more easily create cheery picked pull requests.
06:31 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: Cheers. Similar to what was thinkig.
06:31 PM Joco[m]: More aggressive angle.
06:31 PM Lcvette1: just cut some thick aluminum plate at an angle to mount the mill on
06:31 PM Lcvette1: use one set between mill and pan and one set under pan to sit level on base
06:32 PM Lcvette1: thick like 2"
06:32 PM Lcvette1: 2x6x12 i think the base is
06:34 PM Joco[m]: wouldn't you just have a single riseers that are mounted on the stand then weld the sloping pan around them. Then you can mount the mill to them and there is no sealing issues as no through holes anywhere
06:41 PM Lcvette1: couple dowel pins through and sandwisched would not leak with a little sealant, and this way the chips that get under the way covers flow right out
06:42 PM Lcvette1: and the two plates bolted together would clamp the pan
06:42 PM Lcvette1: welding thin aluminum to a really thick riser block..lol have fun with that
06:43 PM Lcvette1: new to tig welding im guessing
06:43 PM Joco[m]: You would need to pre heat the riser blocks
06:43 PM Joco[m]: else they will siuck all the heat
06:43 PM Lcvette1: first.. do you weld?
06:43 PM Lcvette1: do you know how hot you would have to make that block?
06:44 PM Joco[m]: very
06:44 PM Joco[m]: easier to pin and bolt like you said
06:44 PM Lcvette1: do you know how bad the aluminum would twist out of shape
06:44 PM Lcvette1: lol
06:44 PM Lcvette1: yes... MUCH easier
06:44 PM Lcvette1: and has the benefit of chip evacuation
06:45 PM Joco[m]: not sure on the twist. Bit yeas - the heat levels will proably screw it all uo
06:45 PM Joco[m]: up
06:45 PM Lcvette1: which sucks on the g0704
06:45 PM Lcvette1: the thin material will bow and bend and twist under the heat it would take to weld to that big thick riser block
06:46 PM Lcvette1: it won't leak if you down and bolt the two slanted pieces together with some sealant
06:46 PM Lcvette1: use 3m5200
06:46 PM Lcvette1: that stuff is crazy tough
06:46 PM Joco[m]: I've noted it away in my upgrades project folder. Deal with motor first I think.
06:47 PM Lcvette1: just a little around the bolt holes
06:47 PM Lcvette1: yeah
06:47 PM Lcvette1: is your motor in the back?
06:47 PM Joco[m]: The Y?
06:47 PM Joco[m]: Nah - front
06:47 PM Lcvette1: yes
06:47 PM Lcvette1: oh wait your column is bolted on top of the base?
06:47 PM Joco[m]: Column bolts to back
06:48 PM Joco[m]: not top like the PM25
06:48 PM Lcvette1: great so you can make some spacers
06:48 PM Lcvette1: 3"
06:48 PM Lcvette1: will give you 9.5" of Y travel
06:48 PM Lcvette1: will need a long ballscrew too
06:49 PM Lcvette1: move the Y mtoor to the rear
06:49 PM Lcvette1: will free up the front of the machine
06:49 PM Joco[m]: long ball screw is ok. I is already only got ~5mm clearance on the back of the casting
06:49 PM Lcvette1: you need to machine the base casting
06:49 PM Joco[m]: Thought about that. Not keen. I'm not mentally ready to start hacking into the castings that much
06:50 PM * Lcvette1 uploaded an image: BB164F1D-D234-401E-AB9A-69623FDEE7FE.jpg (1840KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/OztGkMmTmQvzrFWfWVpZhMCe >
06:50 PM Lcvette1: lol
06:50 PM Lcvette1: it doesn't hurt anything
06:50 PM Joco[m]: I looked into it. Understand the rational. Chickened out
06:51 PM Lcvette1: your loss
06:51 PM Lcvette1: its the best mod to the frame of the machine i did
06:51 PM Lcvette1: the extra Y travel really opens up what you canmmake
06:52 PM Lcvette1: the weak links on the G0704 is the column pinching and head nod
06:52 PM Joco[m]: I can still do the column spacer though. As my ball screw goes all the way to be the back of the casting cavity and I know I can get more travel with the ball nut hwere it is
06:52 PM Lcvette1: and the ONLY rectification for that is Z axis linear rail conversion
06:52 PM Lcvette1: useless without machining the base
06:53 PM Lcvette1: you change the throat of the machine but not the rearward travel
06:53 PM Lcvette1: i understand you are thinking to yourself gosh i don't wanna remove material on an already light machine
06:54 PM Lcvette1: but, my hyper extended machine i have 3.5" spacers becaus ei used a rotary axis as my head spacer
06:54 PM Lcvette1: i have 10.2" Y travel
06:54 PM Lcvette1: and it makes gorgeous parts
06:54 PM Lcvette1: and is smooth and nice while mahcining
06:54 PM Lcvette1: no chatter
06:56 PM Joco[m]: I have 180mm at the moment and I know I have at least another 25-30mm of usable length on the Y ballscrew.
06:56 PM Joco[m]: if the column was not stopping things
06:58 PM Joco[m]: And that is before hacking into things like you showed. For what I do will play with what I have. Can easily add a spacer on column and head at a later point.
06:59 PM Joco[m]: Got to get more use out of it. Else all I will be doing is mobbing the mill in spare time and not making little motors or small run parts for people I know
07:02 PM Joco[m]: Lcvette: What is "column pinch"?
07:02 PM Joco[m]: I understand the Nod issue

10:11 PM Lcvette1: \o/
10:11 PM TurBoss: /o
10:11 PM Lcvette1: o

10:12 PM TurBoss: I'm turboignorant
10:12 PM Lcvette1: lets just make a circle
10:12 PM Lcvette1: in the quadrant
10:12 PM Not-944e: [02qtpyvcp] 07joco-nz opened pull request 03#34: Hal group cherrypick - 13https://git.io/Jfgza
10:13 PM Lcvette1: convererting a formula into a cartesian coordinate is going to eb difficult
10:13 PM TurBoss: ok
10:14 PM Lcvette1: and then it has to work in all quadrants
10:14 PM Lcvette1: i think too complex for my old brain
10:16 PM TurBoss: Lcvette: do yo know matlab/octave?
10:17 PM Lcvette1: whats that?
10:17 PM TurBoss: math software
10:17 PM Lcvette1: no
10:18 PM Lcvette1: that is well after my college years
10:18 PM Lcvette1: the math you don't use becoime foggy with age
10:18 PM Lcvette1: ytou forget alot of what you don't practice
10:18 PM TurBoss: ok
10:59 PM Lcvette1: can we merge the lathe branch into master
10:59 PM Lcvette1: i am having to go back and forth between branches to see things that need updating in probe basic lathe that are wrong in the older probe basic on the lathe branch
10:59 PM Lcvette1: turboss ^^^
11:00 PM TurBoss: hmmm
11:00 PM TurBoss: me too
11:00 PM TurBoss: :P
11:00 PM Lcvette1: would be a hwole lot easier if lathe was on the current probe basic branch
11:01 PM TurBoss: ok only takes effect when LATHE = True
11:01 PM Lcvette1: whats that?
11:01 PM Lcvette1: the vtk thing?
11:01 PM TurBoss: the ini option
11:01 PM Lcvette1: thats in qtpyvcp though right?
11:02 PM Lcvette1: lathe branch is in probe basic repo
11:02 PM TurBoss: ah
11:02 PM TurBoss: you want to merge on PB repo
11:02 PM Lcvette1: yes
11:02 PM TurBoss: ok
11:02 PM Joco[m]: <Lcvette1 "i am having to go back and forth"> I feel your pain. :-)
11:02 PM Lcvette1: i think just everything lathe require to be merged
11:02 PM Lcvette1: indeed
11:03 PM Lcvette1: if it was brought current then i could have both probe basic ui and probe basic lathe ui open in designer at the same time
11:03 PM Lcvette1: could opy and paste things over
11:03 PM Lcvette1: * could copy and paste things over
11:04 PM TurBoss: Lcvette: there are changes in the regular pb.ui file
11:04 PM Lcvette1: or look at button rule examples
11:04 PM TurBoss: on the lathe branch
11:04 PM Not-944e: [02probe_basic] 07Lcvette pushed 031 commit to 03lathe_vcp [+0/-0/±3] 13https://git.io/Jfg2Y
11:04 PM TurBoss: wich ones I keep master i guess
11:04 PM Not-944e: [02probe_basic] 07Lcvette 0321e117f - updated lathe ui
11:05 PM Lcvette1: you need to catch up your repo
11:05 PM Lcvette1: :p
11:05 PM TurBoss: done
11:06 PM Lcvette1: \o/
11:06 PM Lcvette1: i don't have any open changes in master
11:06 PM Lcvette1: everything i have is all pushed in all branches now
11:07 PM TurBoss: Lcvette: dont' push to kcjenmaster
11:07 PM TurBoss: its on my fork
11:07 PM Lcvette1: ?
11:07 PM TurBoss: once tested you can push to master again
11:07 PM TurBoss: test my repo
11:07 PM Lcvette1: im not following
11:07 PM TurBoss: I pushed to mine
11:08 PM TurBoss: so we can easily revert
11:08 PM TurBoss: in case i messed
11:08 PM Lcvette1: ah ok
11:08 PM TurBoss: got it?
11:08 PM Lcvette1: you kept all the lathe stuff?
11:08 PM TurBoss: don't push yet
11:08 PM TurBoss: yes
11:08 PM Lcvette1: from the lathe repo and overwrote the master lathe stuff which wa outdated?
11:09 PM Lcvette1: im not doing anything
11:09 PM Lcvette1: :d

11:17 PM Lcvette1: im in designer
11:17 PM Lcvette1: sek im testing the sims now
11:18 PM Lcvette1: all seems well
11:20 PM TurBoss: great
11:20 PM Lcvette1: gonna need hazzy to help with the dro input thing and the lathe thing for radius/diameter
11:20 PM Lcvette1: nto sure how that works
