12:00 AM TurBoss: by enabling all worked
12:00 AM TurBoss: save works
12:00 AM Lcvette: that one has the pocket number positive

12:00 AM TurBoss: this one is saved by PBL
12:01 AM Lcvette: it has to display all of those?
12:01 AM TurBoss: no
12:01 AM Lcvette: /o\
12:01 AM Lcvette: oh just needs them all in the table file
12:01 AM TurBoss: I doesn't have to display them but in the yaml there are required ones
12:01 AM Lcvette: designer preference only display what you tell it?
12:01 AM TurBoss: yup
12:01 AM Lcvette: gotcha
12:01 AM Lcvette: hurray!!
12:01 AM TurBoss: but
12:01 AM Lcvette: turboss did it!!
12:02 AM TurBoss: but....
12:02 AM Lcvette: :o
12:02 AM Lcvette: :|
12:02 AM TurBoss: maybe are some unrequired cols
12:02 AM Lcvette: /o\

12:04 AM Lcvette: hurray!
12:04 AM Lcvette: :D
12:05 AM TurBoss: works?
12:09 AM TurBoss: ```
12:09 AM TurBoss: TPXYZABCUVWDIJQR
12:43 AM Lcvette: fell asleep
12:43 AM Lcvette: can't keep my eyes open
12:43 AM Lcvette: :(
12:43 AM Lcvette: back in the morning and will test
12:44 AM JamesW[m]: ok python boffons
12:45 AM JamesW[m]: I'm trying to figure out where QStyle is the qtpy packages - ideas?
12:45 AM JamesW[m]: not in Gui
12:45 AM JamesW[m]: not in Core
12:52 AM JamesW[m]: poop - people all gone to bed
01:12 AM TurBoss: yo
01:13 AM TurBoss: QStyle
01:13 AM TurBoss: sek
01:13 AM TurBoss: you using pycharm ? JamesW
01:14 AM TurBoss: from qtpy.QtWidgets import QStyle
01:15 AM TurBoss: https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qstyle.html
01:30 AM JamesW[m]: cheers - been stumped
01:45 AM JamesW[m]: TurBoss: have used the QStyle.standardIcon function at all?
02:00 AM JamesW[m]: I'm trying to get my hands on one of the inernal qtpy icons. either a right arrow or the music play triangle. But I'm getting stumped on how to create the icon. It's supposed to be inside QStyle. But that is a virtual class and I can't create instances of it. Do I need to subclass or is there an easier way?
02:57 AM JamesW[m]: MDI History and Queue widget with graphic indicators for progress. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Gt0AOXG7f9T-gqWYMeXHrAp13AwIUN8O
03:11 AM EppicJR[m] is now known as EppicJR9543[m]
03:16 AM TurBoss: JamesW: woah thats brutal
03:16 AM TurBoss: did you figured the icon stuff?
03:17 AM JamesW[m]: yup
03:17 AM JamesW[m]: figured I needed to pull them from the theme
03:17 AM JamesW[m]: so different theme would in theory give slightly different icons
03:17 AM JamesW[m]: i.e. the overall system theme
03:19 AM TurBoss: I just managed to compile a zx spectrum OS
03:19 AM TurBoss: YX
03:19 AM TurBoss: :P
03:20 AM JamesW[m]: sheesh that's going back a long way
03:20 AM JamesW[m]: I can remember using them in school on black and white TVs
03:20 AM * TurBoss uploaded an image: Captura de pantalla de 2020-05-15 10-19-26.png (4KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/jauriarts.org/xFDfLHywukfdztyTWHMNyxps >

03:27 AM JamesW[m]: And tapes
03:27 AM TurBoss: lol
03:27 AM JamesW[m]: threading tapes was such a pain.
03:27 AM JamesW[m]: unless you were lucky enough to have one of the autloading jobs. They were slick until they got out of calibration. Then ... munch munch munch
03:28 AM JamesW[m]: ahh the good old days.
03:28 AM TurBoss: 😲
03:28 AM TurBoss: tapes I know are LTO

10:10 AM Lcvette: JamesW: you need an arrow icon?
10:10 AM Lcvette: i have some in probe basic i made
10:11 AM Lcvette: morning!
10:28 AM Lcvette: TurBoss: i don't see a new branch to test
12:13 PM TurBoss: Lcvette: hello!
12:51 PM JamesW[m]: Morning

04:04 PM JamesW[m]: gosh ... eclipse ... been a few years since I had that installed and used it.
04:22 PM JT-Shop: well I'm screwed now... the only thing factory is the tips the rest of the exhaust is welded
04:23 PM JamesW[m]: oh - so you can't just get a stock item?

04:39 PM MyBrainHurts is now known as SaidItAgainbefor
04:42 PM SaidItAgainbefor: the wiki is just missing a couple small steps for a new install
04:44 PM SaidItAgainbefor: hazzy-m: How would you like the fixes? via Git?
04:50 PM JT[m]: Lcvette: nice
04:50 PM JamesW[m]: Lcvette: coming along nicely
04:50 PM Lcvette: thanks!
04:50 PM Lcvette: man i got lucky at the sheet metal fab shop
04:51 PM Lcvette: the guy there had just bought an old bridgeport and an atlas lathe and had no clue how to use them, so i spent 30 minutes going over everything, quick training course, he didn't charge me for the bending
04:51 PM Lcvette: :D
04:51 PM Lcvette: \o/\
04:52 PM Lcvette: told me to come back with the rest of the project and show him some more and he would bend up the rest for me no charge

05:01 PM JT-Shop: I think basically I need to cut the glass packs out, remove the exhaust from there back and fit the new exhaust in and figure out what shape the missing section is
05:02 PM JT-Shop: Lcvette, what do you think?
05:06 PM Lcvette: i dunno, hard to make everything out
05:06 PM Lcvette: or see if you can find a mid pip section kit
05:07 PM Lcvette: * or see if you can find a mid pipe section kit
05:07 PM Lcvette: be alot easier then trying to fit new pipes
05:07 PM Lcvette: especially if you are doing it on your back

05:08 PM Lcvette: nice 3" bmandrel bent stainless steel with an X-pipe
05:08 PM Lcvette: $289 is cheap for that
05:10 PM JT[m]: Oh wow thanks
05:10 PM Not-944e: [02qtpyvcp] 07joco-nz opened pull request 03#33: Mdi history and queue widget - 13https://git.io/JfRMI
05:10 PM Lcvette: yeah make it bolt on, forget having to weld things up under a car
05:10 PM Lcvette: no fun
05:10 PM Lcvette: on your back
05:10 PM Lcvette: especially if you are migging.. little glowing balls of fury
05:10 PM Lcvette: /o\
05:11 PM Lcvette: doing the inchworm shuffle under a car getting singed ends with bumps and bruises
05:11 PM Lcvette: lol
05:12 PM JamesW[m]: Lcvette: new history/queue widget. about 2 days ahead of schedule.
05:14 PM Lcvette: \o/
05:14 PM Lcvette: you did it?
05:14 PM Lcvette: :o
05:14 PM Lcvette: Hurray!!!
05:16 PM JamesW[m]: yup. It's version 1. But seems pretty usable. Example in my gui: https://github.com/joco-nz/bf20_mill
06:11 PM TurBoss: JamesW: hello
06:11 PM TurBoss: just taking a look
06:16 PM TurBoss: maybe with a slot it can be feed

06:17 PM TurBoss: forget it
06:17 PM TurBoss: lol
06:17 PM JamesW[m]: :-)
06:27 PM SaidItAgainbefor: TurBoss: I have a few fixes for the wiki standard install howto
06:27 PM TurBoss: great!
06:27 PM SaidItAgainbefor: do you want them via Git?
06:28 PM TurBoss: if you can open a pullrequest
06:28 PM SaidItAgainbefor: ok will do
06:28 PM TurBoss: sure
06:28 PM SaidItAgainbefor: how are things?
06:28 PM SaidItAgainbefor is now known as CaptHindsight

06:29 PM CaptHindsight: ok was just going to ask
06:29 PM CaptHindsight: \0/
06:29 PM TurBoss: * great! net week we leave "alarm state" level 0
06:29 PM CaptHindsight: we have at least 2 more weeks
06:29 PM CaptHindsight: likely until July
06:30 PM TurBoss: deads numbers lowered from 1000 to 150 a ady
06:31 PM TurBoss: hello! CaptHindsight
06:33 PM CaptHindsight: less death per day is usually a good thing
06:33 PM CaptHindsight: unless you are running out of people
06:34 PM JamesW[m]: we have been lucky. No deaths for weeks and had multiple days with zero new cases until yesterday when the was one.
06:35 PM JamesW[m]: of course the economy is butchered.
06:35 PM CaptHindsight: they haven't been talking about it much YET but this is worse than the crash of 1929 in the USA
06:36 PM CaptHindsight: 33+ million on unemployment
06:54 PM TurBoss: JamesW: ok I get the idea
06:54 PM TurBoss: what i was thinking requires a second text entry
06:56 PM Lcvette: o/
06:56 PM Lcvette: Hello turboss i have not tested yet
06:56 PM TurBoss: Lcvette: the lathe box looks great
06:56 PM TurBoss: no worries
06:57 PM Lcvette: /o\
06:57 PM Lcvette: Thanks,!
07:06 PM TurBoss: bf20_mill looks cools
07:10 PM JamesW[m]: Cheers.
07:11 PM JamesW[m]: Based off JTs design. With some of my tweaks
07:35 PM Lcvette: TurBoss: what bf20 mill?
07:35 PM Lcvette: I missed?
07:36 PM TurBoss: its @joco_nz:matrix.org vcp
07:36 PM Lcvette: I dunno
07:46 PM JamesW[m]: https://github.com/joco-nz/bf20_mill
07:46 PM JamesW[m]: Lcvette: building this for my BF20 (like a G0704).
07:47 PM JamesW[m]: It also has a sample pattern for using the mdi history widget
07:47 PM JamesW[m]: Cose I'm using it. :)
07:49 PM Lcvette: JamesW: nice
07:49 PM Lcvette: Fyi, those probe icons and probe basic design is mine
07:49 PM Lcvette: :D
07:50 PM JamesW[m]: I thought so. I have referenced the probe basic to acknowledge the icons. But when I wrote it wasn't yet clear as to who was doing what.
07:50 PM JamesW[m]: Very nice icon set by the way. VERY nice.
07:51 PM Lcvette: \o/
07:51 PM Lcvette: Thanks
07:51 PM JamesW[m]: Eventually I hope to implement more of the automated probe routines as used in PB. But that is waiting on me HAVING a probe.
07:51 PM Lcvette: Drewtronics!
07:51 PM JamesW[m]: I also utilised some of what I assume is your base colour scheme.
07:51 PM Lcvette: Tell him Chris sent you
07:51 PM Lcvette: Yes
07:52 PM JamesW[m]: Yes - will either make or buy. If buy will be the Drewtronics model
07:52 PM Lcvette: I spent weeks on color schemes
07:52 PM Lcvette: Buy
07:52 PM Lcvette: An spend your time on more important projects
07:52 PM JamesW[m]: I rather like making my tools.
07:52 PM JamesW[m]: That for me is part of the hobby
07:52 PM JamesW[m]: Remember "me hobby user, you production user". ;-)
07:54 PM JamesW[m]: oh dear. Daughter just found a site to norsify your name. I'm Kollsvien Ironfist
07:55 PM JamesW[m]: lol
07:56 PM JamesW[m]: Lcvette: but having said the making angle, Drew's stuff us RATHER nice
07:57 PM Lcvette: I bet where you're coming from
07:57 PM Lcvette: Get
08:12 PM * hazzy-m just got home
08:12 PM hazzy-m: What's shakin'?
08:12 PM JamesW[m]: home later or just home from work?
08:13 PM JamesW[m]: later==late
08:13 PM hazzy-m: I spent a little while at the lake with some co-workers after work
08:17 PM Lcvette: Nice
08:18 PM Lcvette: Anyone ever seen how a large touch probe works?
08:19 PM Lcvette: * Anyone ever seen how a lathe touch probe works?
08:22 PM JamesW[m]: nope. Not something I ever seen. Youtube?
08:25 PM Lcvette: https://youtu.be/x2Oowo6hGyU
08:25 PM Lcvette: Badassery
08:28 PM JamesW[m]: that's pretty slick
09:32 PM Not-944e: [02probe_basic] 07Lcvette created branch 03lathe_vcp 13https://git.io/JfRpS
09:34 PM Lcvette: TurBoss: i just tested!! it works!!!
09:34 PM Lcvette: Hurray!!
09:34 PM Lcvette: \o/
09:34 PM Lcvette: :D
09:35 PM TurBoss: great
09:35 PM Lcvette: \o/
10:18 PM JamesW[m]: afternoon gents
10:19 PM JamesW[m]: just been testing my new spindle servo motor.
10:21 PM JamesW[m]: Basic tests done. It spins. Always a win. Have adjusted the bus bar voltage for local conditions (237VAC as measured coming into the driver) and figured out how to increase the top RPMs beyond rated. Drive caps at 5k and rated is 3k. So my plan to use between 4-5k looks safe. Have run a test at 4k with no issues.
10:22 PM JamesW[m]: hazzy: new pull request posted. That is the work on the mdi history/queue widget.
10:48 PM CaptHindsight is now known as PantomimeHorse
10:58 PM Lcvette: nice JamesW
10:58 PM Lcvette: glad it is running!
10:58 PM Lcvette: sure
10:58 PM JamesW[m]: same. Whenever I get something from China I always have this moment of "please let it work".
10:59 PM JamesW[m]: just proofed it at 5000rpm. :-)
11:02 PM PantomimeHorse: JamesW[m]: how long will its bearings last at 5K?
11:02 PM JamesW[m]: no idea. Its rated at 3k and looking around the net it is pretty common practice to over speed these when using them as spindles.
11:02 PM JamesW[m]: sorry spindle motors
11:03 PM JamesW[m]: having said that, given what I machine 1800 to 4000 will tend to be where I run.
11:04 PM JamesW[m]: I am also debating with myself if I run dual ratios. One slightly under 1:1 and one a bit over so I can get a good band for torque and speed
11:07 PM JamesW[m]: e.g a 2:3 and 3:2
11:07 PM PantomimeHorse: the luck of the Chinese bearing
11:08 PM JamesW[m]: yeah. Mind you this producer seems to have a good rep
11:08 PM Lcvette: do you know what the torque will be at 5k rpm?
11:09 PM Lcvette: im sure it falls off a cliff after 3k
11:09 PM Lcvette: you may be better served with dual range
11:09 PM JamesW[m]: Maybe. But with small cutters I would be using at that speed would it be that torque hungry?
11:09 PM Lcvette: yes
11:10 PM JamesW[m]: Plan was always dual range with poly-v belt
11:10 PM Lcvette: rpm dopes nothing for you if you aren't feeding at the correct speed
11:10 PM JamesW[m]: just not sure yet what range to run with
11:10 PM Lcvette: and faster feed rates mean more spindle load
11:10 PM JamesW[m]: all about the chip loading - yeah?
11:10 PM Lcvette: smaller cutters won't matter too much
11:11 PM JamesW[m]: load per cutting edge that is
11:12 PM Lcvette: run the calcs in fswizard
11:12 PM Lcvette: you can't run too light of a cut
11:12 PM Lcvette: it causes rubbing instead of cutting
11:12 PM JamesW[m]: from what I have seen of others using similar spec motors they run a 1:1 and a 2:1 ratio. They push into the ~4000 to 4500 rpm range on 1:1 and seem to do ok.
11:13 PM Lcvette: heat is not dispelled in the chip and builds up in the work piece and tool
11:13 PM JamesW[m]: agree -cut. Rule of thumb I run is not to go lighter then 0.02mm and ideall 0.05mm as the lowe end
11:14 PM Lcvette: 2:1 for smaller cutters will be fine but for larger cutters i don't know if that mtoor will have the torque
11:14 PM Lcvette: you will be loading it pretty hard
11:14 PM JamesW[m]: on ali when hogging with a comb edged cutter I am reasonably agressive for my wee mill
11:14 PM Lcvette: 1:1 would be better
11:15 PM JamesW[m]: hmm maybe i have that ratio around the wrong way. motor is 1000rpm, spindles is 500
11:15 PM Lcvette: i generally run 5000rpm and 0.0025ipt
11:15 PM Lcvette: 3 flute cutter
11:15 PM Lcvette: 0.75" doc
11:16 PM Lcvette: 20% stepover
11:16 PM Lcvette: 3/8" endmill
11:16 PM Lcvette: non serrated
11:16 PM JamesW[m]: .06mm
11:16 PM Lcvette: thats my go to recipe
11:16 PM JamesW[m]: I tend to run .06 to .1 with serrated
11:16 PM Lcvette: it will cut all day unattended like that
11:17 PM JamesW[m]: 3/8 is close to 10mm. 10 and 12mm end mills are are go to hoggers
11:17 PM JamesW[m]: are my
11:18 PM JamesW[m]: my DoC would only be 5-10mm else it starts to sound a bit rough
11:19 PM Lcvette: your at low rpm with stock motor now?
11:19 PM JamesW[m]: probably not helped by fact my current rpm is capped at 2800
11:19 PM Lcvette: mine sounds wonderful cutting smooth and quiet
11:21 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: image.png (57KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/MNBRtQZoXvEdWFLcHiIMtSwV >
11:21 PM Lcvette: .52hp
11:22 PM Lcvette: if i push much harder then that i get occasional tool pullout
11:22 PM Lcvette: im still running light springs in my power drawbar
11:22 PM JamesW[m]: what would the HP rating be at 4000rpm?
11:22 PM Lcvette: and they are 8 years old
11:23 PM Lcvette: probably need to replace them with the bigger springs i sell in my kits
11:23 PM Lcvette: but never got around to it..lol
11:23 PM Lcvette: https://fswizard.com
11:23 PM Lcvette: free calculator
11:23 PM Lcvette: i love fswqizard, it is one of the better calculators ive used
11:24 PM JamesW[m]: cheers
11:24 PM Lcvette: .41hp at 4000rpm
11:25 PM Lcvette: safe torque is 3.33lbft
11:31 PM JamesW[m]: I ran some specs on what I typically use and get between .45 and .6 HP
11:32 PM Lcvette: on the stock motor?
11:32 PM Lcvette: sure you did it right?
11:32 PM Lcvette: .6 is alot
11:32 PM Lcvette: make sure you set the rpm and feed rate, doc and woc correctly as well as the material
11:33 PM JamesW[m]: yeah - trying different things
11:33 PM Lcvette: my stock motor would have roasted itself at .6hp load
11:33 PM JamesW[m]: some stuf like helix angle and stuff I'm not sure on the meaning so leaving as default
11:34 PM Lcvette: the helix angle is like thread pitch
11:34 PM JamesW[m]: sod knows what that is my endmills
11:34 PM Lcvette: typically more modern tooling like YG alumapower and other aluminum cutting 3 flute endmills have a 45-50deg helix
11:35 PM Lcvette: old traditional cutters are generally 30deg
11:35 PM JamesW[m]: lead angle?
11:36 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: image.png (138KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/gMEguVUzmSWrqnlUPhSBlVqD >
11:36 PM Lcvette: endmill lead angle
11:38 PM JamesW[m]: ah - cool
11:40 PM Lcvette: i do not use serrated endmills anymore
11:40 PM JamesW[m]: replayed your recipe and tweaked it a bit for my reality. getting 0.3 to 0.4 Hp
11:41 PM Lcvette: good data in good data out
11:41 PM Lcvette: :D
11:41 PM Lcvette: \o/
11:42 PM JamesW[m]: well ... starting to learn how to get the calc to behave as well. Find it rests shit on my when I change end mill type
11:43 PM Lcvette: yeah
11:43 PM Lcvette: best to start at the top and work your way down
11:44 PM Lcvette: use the enter key aftr inputting data to refresh the data
11:44 PM JamesW[m]: Just changed to a roughing mill. And all of a sudden it's say 1.8Hp. THEN I fixe the feeds, rpm % and, the DoC and step over. And bingo. Back to ~.4Hp
11:45 PM JamesW[m]: but I'm seeing that nice summary screen you posted on either web or phone app
11:46 PM Lcvette: i was on web
11:46 PM Lcvette: click in the top green screen
11:46 PM Lcvette: it gives you the summary
11:46 PM JamesW[m]: k. Going to delete the phone one. Stupid thing is stuck on imperial for the feed/speed indfo
11:47 PM Lcvette: sorry blue screen
11:47 PM Lcvette: mm/inch is an option in the first entry page
11:47 PM JamesW[m]: AH!
11:47 PM JamesW[m]: Cool
11:48 PM Lcvette: once you are up and running, run a power cutting test
11:48 PM Lcvette: with your machine
11:48 PM Lcvette: and find what power based on fswizard you begin to see rpm drops from loading
11:48 PM Lcvette: then back off 10%
11:48 PM Lcvette: usually a good max cutting range for the motor
11:49 PM Lcvette: thats what we did here on the big machine
11:50 PM * JamesW[m] uploaded an image: image.png (56KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/dkQSOvFEvTgSjEcbVkYOLdjZ >
11:51 PM JamesW[m]: good advice - will do that
11:51 PM Lcvette: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfDMQpkqC2c
11:51 PM Lcvette: this was us spindle power testing
11:53 PM JamesW[m]: lol - just a "little" bit bigger than my kit
11:53 PM JamesW[m]: you have one like that for the small mill?
11:54 PM Lcvette: whats that?
11:54 PM Lcvette: no
11:54 PM JamesW[m]: maybe confusing with one of the other guys
11:54 PM Lcvette: i did mine years ago
11:54 PM JamesW[m]: someone has a G0704 converted
11:55 PM Lcvette: i rarely go over 1hp
11:55 PM Lcvette: I do yes
11:55 PM Lcvette: G0704 and the big vmc
11:55 PM JamesW[m]: ah - but soo long ago, pre youtube?
11:55 PM Lcvette: I ahve a 2hp 3ph motor on the grizzly
11:55 PM Lcvette: 2010
11:55 PM JamesW[m]: you a while ago
11:56 PM Lcvette: not preyoutube, but i was not doing alot of filming and posting back then
11:56 PM JamesW[m]: yup
11:56 PM JamesW[m]: hmmm ... wonder when hazzy will get time to look at that pull request
11:57 PM Lcvette: have you watched any of the g0704 vids i have?
11:57 PM Lcvette: i don't make great film
11:57 PM Lcvette: lol
