02:39 AM TurBoss: Good morning
02:42 AM joco_nz[m]: morning. Or in my case - evening
03:03 AM JamesW: at the moment I'm trying to figure out m6 remap so can get auto tool measurement on tool change
03:03 AM JamesW: and not have it fight with basic probe
03:04 AM JamesW: while seeming to be socialable with the wife in the lounge while watching a tv show
03:05 AM TurBoss: :D
03:06 AM JamesW: this remap stuff is doing my head in though
03:07 AM TurBoss: that uses python
03:07 AM JamesW: isn't it a mix of python and gcode subs?
03:08 AM JamesW: I'm looking at the sim example.
03:08 AM TurBoss: there is a branch
03:08 AM JamesW: ffs - bloody cat has plonked herself in my lap. I'm trying to work on the the laptop dang it!
03:08 AM JamesW: a branch??
03:09 AM TurBoss: https://github.com/kcjengr/probe_basic/tree/ATC_Remap/config/sim.atc
03:09 AM TurBoss: still WIP
03:10 AM JamesW: is that for atc or manual ?
03:10 AM TurBoss: ATC
03:10 AM JamesW: I'm talking manual tool change and remeasure.
03:10 AM JamesW: no TTS like system
03:10 AM TurBoss: ohhh
03:10 AM TurBoss: ok
03:11 AM JamesW: is all goods
04:10 AM JamesW: stage 1 success. Have a custom ngc macro firing on use of M6
04:31 AM TurBoss: great!
04:45 AM JamesW: now have it auto locating to the tool measurement plates location.
04:46 AM JamesW: should be pretty simple from here really. Just need to link up the necessary digital and analogue pins off the motion object so I get the interaction I need between gui and ngc macro
05:03 AM TurBoss: there are subcall buttons
05:03 AM TurBoss: never used
05:03 AM TurBoss: * I never used
05:07 AM JamesW: yeah - will get to those eventually. at the moment I'm trying to sort through some first princples stuff on how to use the remap mechanic
05:18 AM jthornton: remap yuck what a mess
05:19 AM JamesW: is there a better way to get a tool change doable by hand with remeasure on a manual tool change system?
05:24 AM jthornton: dunno, both of my mills use the tool table
05:26 AM JamesW: yeah. Dont have a TTS like system and not likely to get something of that ilk for some time. So I'm trying to allow for a multi operation gcode that supports a toolchnage and auto measure for TLO.
05:27 AM jthornton: what's a TTS like system?
05:27 AM JamesW: At the moment I have all my ops with different tools in separate files. Setup the tool and touch off by hand using a dowel pin as reference for known offset.
05:27 AM JamesW: Tormach Tool System
05:27 AM JamesW: pre loaded tools of known/measured length that can be defined in a tool table and just slotted in by hand.
05:28 AM JamesW: use the stock manual tool change mechanic
05:28 AM jthornton: not familiar with them at all, my BP knee mill is a Quick Switch and the BP VMC is CAT like
05:28 AM JamesW: All the same concept. Just different taper/holding meachanic
05:28 AM JamesW: they are all referenced and repeatable.
05:29 AM jthornton: right
05:29 AM JamesW: I have BT30/NT30 on my manual mill.
05:29 AM JamesW: But the cnc is a baby BF20.
05:29 AM jthornton: most of the time on the BP knee mill I just program one op at a time and don't bother with the tool table
05:29 AM JamesW: That is what I have been doing on the BF20
05:30 AM JamesW: (BF20 == Grizzly G0704)
05:30 AM jthornton: ah ok
05:30 AM JamesW: small
05:31 AM JamesW: My manual mill is a Dah Lee. Tawain from the 70's. They only build CNC stuff these days. But its a great wee machine. About same size a a BP but has vertical and horizontal arbors.
05:32 AM jthornton: ah R8 spindle
05:32 AM jthornton: https://www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-7-x-27-1-HP-Mill-Drill-with-Stand/G0704
05:32 AM JamesW: nope - BT30/NT30 on both
05:32 AM JamesW: oh - no BF20 is 3MT
05:33 AM JamesW: R8 is popular in north america and parts pf europe. Sod all R8 in NZ
05:33 AM jthornton: weird that's a drill chuck taper
05:34 AM JamesW: lots of old big oron with 4Mt and 5MT
05:34 AM JamesW: just another locking taper
05:34 AM JamesW: oron==iron
05:34 AM JamesW: lot of oriental and russian stuff down here like that
05:34 AM JamesW: then its all the NT/BT tapers.
05:35 AM JamesW: 30,40 and 50
05:35 AM jthornton: IIRC my VMC is BT30 but it's been a bunch of years since I've ordered one
05:36 AM JamesW: BT tapers popular with bigger CNC stuff. Its not a locking taper so good for auto change systems
05:37 AM JamesW: but I tend to use an ER collet setup on the Bf20. Easy to change. but not repeatable.
05:37 AM JamesW: so hence the whole m6 remap "fun".
05:38 AM JamesW: Lots of others done it. But hard to find clear step-by-step instructions. Its all sprinkled through forum posts. By the time i have sifted through all that I will have worked it out myself.
05:39 AM jthornton: yea, I've watched many over the years chase this and stuff like steppers with encoder feedback
05:41 AM JamesW: its the difference between industrial/production grade gear and hobby grade gear. If you are ok being careful and not pushing it then steppers will work. If you want speed, repeatability cost time is $$$ then don't piss about go servo from the start.
05:43 AM JamesW: For me this is a hobby. My cnc rig on the BF20 is 1/3 of what it would have cost to do the same with servos. So I accept its limits and just have fun.
06:01 AM JamesW: sleeps time. later.
06:02 AM jthornton: later
06:08 AM hazzy-m: morning
06:08 AM TurBoss: good morning
06:13 AM jthornton: morning
06:27 AM TurBoss: hazzy: did a local merge of the app_dir and no errors on PB any idea of where to look for bugs?

06:36 AM TurBoss: hazzy: for what i have tested the python interpreter can load qtpyvcp stuff, what if we do the OCP UA plugin run there?
06:36 AM TurBoss: we could have access to interpreter stuff ¿?
06:57 AM TurBoss: brb
07:14 AM TurBoss1: back
08:20 AM roguish[m]: good morning all......
08:25 AM TurBoss1: roguish: hello!
08:46 AM roguish[m]: TurBoss: buenos diaz. over on the -devel channel, there is lots of activity to get the next linuxcnc release out. andyp is working really hard, with several others. i've seen rene_dev mention the python2 to python3 problem.
08:48 AM TurBoss1: I saw
08:48 AM TurBoss1: but I don't know how can i help
08:49 AM TurBoss1: roguish: ar you on -devel ? can you invite me ? @TurBoss:jauriarts.org
08:49 AM TurBoss1: just switched accounts
08:54 AM TurBoss1: o/
09:22 AM hazzy-m: Yo
10:32 AM jthornton: Ho
10:55 AM hazzy-m: Ho
10:55 AM hazzy-m: and a bottle of rum
11:01 AM hazzy-m: TurBoss: I think that every time a program is loaded it instantiates a new interpreter so having the OPC UA server there may not work

02:14 PM JT-Shop: who dat?
03:30 PM TurBoss1: hello
03:49 PM hazzy-m: More folks from NZ!
03:50 PM hazzy-m: hello!
04:13 PM jthornton: oh yea I remember that guy I think
04:15 PM TurBoss1 is now known as TurBoss
04:26 PM roguish[m]: ok , just fixed a minor emergency.; house water pressure regulator quit.
04:26 PM roguish[m]: blew a garden hose last evening. put a guage on today to check pressure.....120+ way too high.
04:27 PM roguish[m]: of course, no one stocks a rebuild kit. had to buy a new valve..... appealed to the counter guy at a local plumbing supply and got 20% off.
04:35 PM roguish[m]: installed. done.
04:35 PM roguish[m]: whew
04:44 PM JamesW: work day - poop
