09:52 AM hazzy-m: lol
09:52 AM hazzy-m: morning
09:54 AM hazzy-m: Delta canceled my nonstop to Wichita on Monday, so I have to have a layover in St. Paul, just what I want, more exposure to people :(
09:58 AM TurBoss: ☹︎
09:58 AM TurBoss: man
12:52 PM TurBoss: hey a pythonic question
12:52 PM TurBoss: how do I obtain unique values from a dict values??
01:14 PM jthornton: set works with a list not sure if it works with a dict or not but you could copy the dict to a list and use set
01:25 PM TurBoss: ```
01:25 PM TurBoss: matrix_members = set(val for key, dic in self.appserv.state_store.members.items() for val in dic.keys())
01:25 PM TurBoss: thanks Jt
02:20 PM roguish[m]: jthornton: hey, if you know COBOL you could make a ton right now......
02:23 PM jthornton: why is that?
02:25 PM roguish[m]: oh come on... an ancient business programming language. still the backbone of lot of business.....
02:25 PM roguish[m]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COBOL
02:26 PM jthornton: why would I make a ton right now I know what COBOL is
02:27 PM roguish[m]: governments are struggling with overloaded unemployment systems. still in COBOL..... been in the news a lot lately.
02:27 PM jthornton: ah, I don't follow the news much
02:27 PM roguish[m]: most COBOL programmers are dead, or nearly so.
02:27 PM jthornton: time to upgrade :)
02:28 PM roguish[m]: https://www.indeed.com/q-cobol-programmer-jobs.html
02:30 PM jthornton: they don't seem to pay that much, I used to charge $100 an hour but now only charge $75
02:31 PM jthornton: interesting dilemma they are in
02:31 PM * jthornton goes back to chicken brooder building
02:36 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], I just ordered all the stuff I need to convert the mountain bike to single chainring I hope
02:36 PM JT-Shop: 30T chainring and 12-36 cassette
02:50 PM roguish[m]: good idea. keeps the bike simpler. look at the new 'gravel bikes'. they're almost all single chainrings.
03:03 PM Roguish_shop: in the shop again
03:30 PM jthornton: the stock chainrings were too small, a tad too big and way too big for a mountain bike... 27 gears
03:30 PM jthornton: the stock middle chainring is 32T and the cassette is 11-34
03:31 PM jthornton: I need to put the gears to a spreadsheet lol
03:31 PM jthornton: maybe write a COBOL program to get the ratios...
03:52 PM Roguish_shop: jthornton, hey, running BP6.....
03:55 PM Roguish_shop: jthornton, have you physically tested all the probe routines....???
03:56 PM Roguish_shop: spreadsheet for gears/ did one years ago. i can post it somewhere...
04:13 PM JT-Shop: the only ones I use are left, right, back so far
04:13 PM JT-Shop: test with warm butter
04:14 PM JT-Shop: I test with a block sitting on top of the vise with my finger on it...
04:31 PM Roguish_shop: hey, the labels on 'mach setting' 'mach status' 'pocket ops' 'hole ops' are too big to display correctly. i cant find how/where to fix them
04:44 PM JT-Shop: hmm the look normal to me and I'm up to date
04:44 PM JT-Shop: anyway to get a screen shot?
04:46 PM Roguish_shop: https://imgur.com/WBHtt5N
04:48 PM Roguish_shop: I just did a git pull also.
04:48 PM Roguish_shop: see the size of that font?
04:48 PM Roguish_shop: I don't think I did it....
05:05 PM JT-Shop: mine is normal size... I think there is a key to make the font bigger in linux...
05:07 PM * roguish[m] posted a file: gear inch.xls (69KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/UbcwLYqBbaaFRcaColaUXPZG >
05:08 PM roguish[m]: here's a speadsheet of bike gears....
05:08 PM JT-Shop: cool thanks
05:09 PM roguish[m]: cyclints use the term 'gear inch'..... it's odd, but that what is used. higher the gear-inch, the harder to pedal and the faster you go.
05:11 PM JT-Shop: what does gear inch mean?
05:11 PM JT-Shop: 700 is the OD of the tire in mm?
05:12 PM roguish[m]: https://bike.bikegremlin.com/6199/gear-inches-explained/
05:13 PM roguish[m]: diagrams and all...
05:15 PM JT-Shop: cool
05:18 PM roguish[m]: most important is just to ride comfortably. relax and enjoy. if ya wanna ya go a little harder and faster.
05:19 PM roguish[m]: pedalling cadence should be 85 to 95 . somewhere in there. it's the old torque versus rpm thing.
05:19 PM roguish[m]: just like in an engine.
05:20 PM roguish[m]: your engine will be comfortable at a different rpm and toque than the person riding next to you.
05:20 PM roguish[m]: doesn't matter.
05:21 PM JT-Shop: yea I ride by myself and pace myself to my ability
05:22 PM roguish[m]: if your're working out, at our age it's good to watch the heart rate. which also depends on one's own physiology.
05:22 PM JT-Shop: I was studying the present gears and realized that the front chainrings were too small or too big
05:22 PM JT-Shop: I don't go too hard
05:22 PM roguish[m]: no worries then.
05:23 PM JT-Shop: I'm out there for a bit of exercise and mostly to be out in the woods but lately it's been full of walkers lol
05:24 PM roguish[m]: they'll mostly go back inside in a while....
05:28 PM JT-Shop: mostly women who can't go to exercise and young family's out for a walk. I still see the occasional old fart that is out there often walking
05:33 PM roguish[m]: they're all out enjoying what they can. at least they are out.....doin something
05:49 PM JT-Shop2: yea
08:54 PM hazzy-m: went hiking today, it was sad to see how fearful everyone was
08:54 PM hazzy-m: One woman even walked back along a dam when she saw I was already walking down it and and went off in the woods to avoid getting anywhere close to me, we could easily passed each other and stayed 10-13ft apart
