08:27 AM Lcvette: morning
09:48 AM roguish[m]: morning all.......
11:18 AM jthornton: kinda weird with the hardware stores almost empty and not much traffic
11:22 AM roguish[m]: jthornton: just started your RPI Preempt install.....
11:46 AM JT-Shop: cool, if you notice anything let me know
11:59 AM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: well, i tried to install lightdm to get a boot into a desktop. desktop came up on boot, but would not login. just went in circles. so reflashing and I'll try again.......
12:08 PM JT-Shop: right mouse click
12:10 PM JT-Shop: you might have edited the comment in lightdm.conf
12:10 PM JT-Shop: you have to scroll down past the comments
12:14 PM roguish[m]: doing the lightdm install again.....
12:19 PM JT-Shop: ok
12:37 PM roguish[m]: guess i got ahead of the instructions by trying to install lightdm too soon.
12:37 PM roguish[m]: going strictly by your guide now..... in the dist-upgrade now
12:45 PM JT-Shop: :)
12:45 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: hey, when i'm doing the git clone, it wants a username and password......
12:45 PM roguish[m]: is there a generic?
12:47 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: ok, found a github id and pw
12:47 PM roguish[m]: working now...
12:48 PM JT-Shop: you should not need an id or pw to clone
12:48 PM roguish[m]: well. i also had a typo.....
12:49 PM roguish[m]: lol
12:49 PM JT-Shop: that would do it
12:50 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: how are you doing 'off the grid' ?
12:57 PM JT-Shop: it's pretty quiet here, most stores that are still open have very few customers except grocery stores
12:59 PM JT-Shop: my buddy asked me if I was going to self confine I had to laugh, that's sop for me
01:02 PM roguish[m]: that's what I was figuring for ya..... kinda handy
01:10 PM JT-Shop: trying to fit an old set of forklift forks to my Kubota tractor bucket
01:10 PM JT-Shop: almost done with that...
02:24 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: made it through the kernel install. on to the openbox....
02:37 PM JT-Shop: yippie
03:39 PM roguish[m]: some of this is really slow. lots to download, unpack, and install...... it's cooking.
04:46 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: ok, all the way to install in caja. i think i'll install pluma also.
04:48 PM jthornton: I like Geany
04:51 PM roguish[m]: sure is taking lots to install caja
04:52 PM roguish[m]: all this is going on the sd card right?
04:52 PM roguish[m]: I used a 32G i had laying around...
04:58 PM JT-Shop: yea
05:03 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/images/equipment/kubota/
05:32 PM roguish[m]: nice those kubota's are pretty good. my buddy with 22 acres has 1. he's got a couple acres of wine grapes, adn a horse pasture. my neighbors sister has a couple kubota's on her farm. she's got like 80 acres of grapes....used to grow corn, but grapes for Gallo are way more profitable.
06:06 PM jthornton: yea Kubota is much better than the cheap imitations, I got this one really cheap
06:27 PM hazzy-m: https://youtu.be/Wuk6RifZmOw
06:29 PM jthornton: what is that?
06:29 PM hazzy-m: Just playing with my new drone
06:30 PM jthornton: what did you get?
06:30 PM hazzy-m: its a cheap Contixo F24 Pro, but its surprisingly decent
06:31 PM hazzy-m: very stable and controllable even without GPS enabled
06:31 PM jthornton: pretty much a mavic clone?
06:31 PM hazzy-m: yeah, pretty much
06:32 PM jthornton: any flight zone limitations?
06:33 PM jthornton: is it quiet?
06:34 PM hazzy-m: its very quite
06:35 PM hazzy-m: much less noisy than the phantom my boss has
06:35 PM jthornton: yea the phantom is much louder than the mavic but I think the camera is better
06:36 PM hazzy-m: it has brushless motors and a 30min+ run time, which is for a sub $250 drone is pretty good
06:36 PM jthornton: also the phantom 3 loses video signal faster than the mavic
06:36 PM jthornton: yea that is amazing flight time
06:38 PM jthornton: I'm impressed with the mavic RTH it will land within a foot of takeoff point
06:38 PM jthornton: the phantom 3 not so good
06:38 PM hazzy-m: they advertised 30min run time and I didn't expect to actually get that, but I got 34min out of it, and that was not just hovering lol
06:38 PM jthornton: I usually fly the phantom 3 home and land myself
06:39 PM hazzy-m: the RTH is not great, it was about 10ft off
06:39 PM hazzy-m: but I just bring it close and then grab it out of the air
06:39 PM jthornton: the phantom is a bit better than that
06:39 PM jthornton: yea same here for the phantom
06:39 PM hazzy-m: it does not have object avoidance so that's kinda nice for hand landing it
06:40 PM jthornton: oh no I land on the ground
06:40 PM jthornton: gotta get a video of you snatching it out of the air lol
06:41 PM hazzy-m: will do!
06:42 PM hazzy-m: the warehouse guys are slow because of corona, so I foresee a lot of drone flying in the near future lol
06:44 PM jthornton: weather has sucked here for flying
06:45 PM jthornton: but could be flying the quads indoors
06:46 PM jthornton: did you see the forks on the Kubota
06:54 PM hazzy-m: jthornton: that looks great! Nice and quick to take on/off
06:57 PM hazzy-m: where was your Kubota made?
06:57 PM hazzy-m: got a couple of plants here in GA
06:57 PM hazzy-m: actually they have several folders, use them for making the buckets
06:57 PM jthornton: dunno, I'll have to check
06:58 PM jthornton: yea two bolts to remove the locking bar and they come off
06:58 PM jthornton: took quite a bit of head scratching and ciphering lol
06:59 PM hazzy-m: came out real nice
08:09 PM roguish[m]: jthornton: ok, starting the lcnc install on the Pi
