09:40 AM roguish[m]: I'm finding some really powerfull opensource FEA codes.
09:41 AM roguish[m]: mostly linux based. some with windows ports or shells.
10:03 AM JT-Shop: FEA?
10:18 AM hazzy-m: roguish: yes, I used to do quite a bit, but I haven’t done anything lately that really needed it
10:20 AM hazzy-m: JT-Shop: Finite Element Analysis
11:54 AM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: what's your latest incarnation of the BP gui you're using...????

04:51 PM Lcvette: o/
04:51 PM Lcvette: fly safe!
04:52 PM Lcvette: that airplane looks like its 60 years old
04:52 PM Lcvette: request a newer plane
04:52 PM Lcvette: lol
05:10 PM JT-Shop: the air force flys planes that are 70 years old...
05:14 PM Lcvette: and they maintain them better then commercial airlines
05:14 PM Lcvette: lol
05:14 PM Lcvette: they don't fix shit on the runway cause money is burning
05:15 PM Lcvette: and the maintenance hour intervals are striclty adhered too
05:15 PM Lcvette: my father was a pilot in the army
05:15 PM Lcvette: flew choppers and fixed wing
05:16 PM Lcvette: said there is no comparison between military and commercial maintenance
05:17 PM Lcvette: he also said that maintenance pools don't himhaw about replacing full engines and such because if they don't use all of their alotment each period they can start having it reduced
05:17 PM Lcvette: lol
05:17 PM Lcvette: nothing like a free flowing takpayer faucet
05:17 PM Lcvette: txpayer*
05:20 PM JT-Shop: during inventory they fill all the planes with fuel then after inventory they drain them back into the tank
05:21 PM JT-Shop: the planes that scared me the most were Air France...
05:23 PM * TurBoss has never flied
05:23 PM TurBoss: :/
05:28 PM * JT-Shop goes to do a bed check on the chickens
05:33 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: check it out............
05:33 PM * roguish[m] uploaded an image: 20191213_151929.jpg (3139KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/yHPGfnurtOQYvjZrBkhyIAQp >
05:33 PM roguish[m]: got a couple of bugs to work out, but looks good.
05:34 PM roguish[m]: personnally I need individual home buttons.
05:34 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:34 PM roguish[m]: plus there is something off in the 'machine power' .....
05:34 PM roguish[m]: probably on my end.
05:34 PM JT-Shop: is that based on mine?
05:34 PM roguish[m]: that is entirely yours right now. just installed.
05:35 PM roguish[m]: i'll mod a bit but I like the simple layout.
05:35 PM JT-Shop: do you like the large DRO
05:35 PM roguish[m]: love BIG dro
05:36 PM JT-Shop: heres a tip, if you have a section that does not have a layout you can drag something there then change page and drag it to the new page
05:36 PM JT-Shop: you can't cut and paste to a section with a layout
05:36 PM roguish[m]: i might add a seperate window for some other stuff.
05:36 PM JT-Shop: I kept the small dro in case your not on the main page
05:36 PM roguish[m]: yeah, i've experienced that no cut and paste.
05:37 PM roguish[m]: i will probably be asking some simple questions......
05:37 PM roguish[m]: hey, what's your CAM program of choice ?
05:37 PM JT-Shop: say your working on the right side go to a blank page on the left and use that to hold the widget till you do what you want on the right etc
05:38 PM JT-Shop: gedit
05:38 PM roguish[m]: shit, you're a real machinist.
05:38 PM * JT-Shop heads down to the beer cave now
05:46 PM JT[m]: roguish: I can add a homing page on the right where you can home and unhome individual axes
06:06 PM roguish[m]: thanks. but don't much your screen up. i've got some time and want to learn a bit more. I'm going to work on my own simple screen that I can run beside yours.
06:07 PM roguish[m]: I'll put some homing on it.
06:07 PM jthornton: it's done
06:07 PM roguish[m]: damn. toooooo quick
06:07 PM jthornton: it's a useful option, pull and you have it
06:07 PM roguish[m]: ok. what do i do? a git pull to update
06:07 PM jthornton: yea git pull
06:07 PM jthornton: in the mill_touch_v6 directory
06:08 PM roguish[m]: ok, thanks, I'll give it a try.
06:08 PM jthornton: you can home/unhome each axis now
06:08 PM roguish[m]: okie dodie
06:12 PM roguish[m]: kinda bumming right now. my old carry around laptop died. graphics crapped out. and of course way too old to even consider fixing.
06:13 PM jthornton: my old XT laptop still works when I need it for some ancient PLC or something...
06:13 PM roguish[m]: check this out. a machine i did a while back. project from hell, but really cool https://youtu.be/oF9O2-ZYQ4Y
06:16 PM jthornton: you did the whole thing or just the pump?
06:19 PM roguish[m]: it's a wave maker. a large pump kinda. there is a long fiberglass tube extended down into the pool. open bottom end. as the plunger goes up and down it sucks the water in and out and that causes the wave action.
06:19 PM roguish[m]: i did the pump thing. a big walking beam mechanism.
06:19 PM jthornton: cool, looked like a fun project
06:19 PM roguish[m]: all 316 SST. pain in the butt and wicked expensive.
06:20 PM jthornton: I like to tig weld SS, it's fun
06:21 PM roguish[m]: my client was an architectural fiberglass contractor, who did the tube. an old sailing friend.
06:22 PM roguish[m]: he was working for the construction company doing the entire aquarium pool. the place is a California state facility.
06:22 PM roguish[m]: ended up having some pretty bad failures.
06:22 PM jthornton: really, what failed?
06:23 PM roguish[m]: thought i might get sued. out here everyone sues everyone else, especially in construction.
06:23 PM roguish[m]: yes prtty cool project.
06:23 PM * hazzy-m loves that wave generator
06:23 PM jthornton: you home?
06:24 PM roguish[m]: an old college friend who ownes http://www.stainlessmotors.com/ fabricated the steel.
06:24 PM roguish[m]: including the motor and gearbox. all 316 SST.
06:25 PM hazzy-m: Just landed, waiting to get off
06:25 PM roguish[m]: hazzy: drink
06:30 PM * jthornton wanders upstairs to kick back and relax
07:23 PM roguish[m]: dinner time. ttfn
