11:45 AM TurBoss: oh i'm idiot
11:45 AM Lcvette: i followed the docs
11:45 AM TurBoss: i saw
11:45 AM Lcvette: this is testing of doc installation
11:45 AM TurBoss: ok
11:45 AM TurBoss: in what step are you
11:45 AM TurBoss: 4 or 5
11:45 AM Lcvette: finished
11:46 AM TurBoss: 5
11:46 AM TurBoss: should require a git clone
11:46 AM TurBoss: like probebasic
11:46 AM Lcvette: the website dics
11:46 AM Lcvette: docs
11:46 AM TurBoss: or
11:46 AM Lcvette: https://kcjengr.github.io/probe_basic/dev_install.html
11:46 AM TurBoss: manually download the files and install the by hand
11:46 AM Lcvette: these docs are the revised ones im testing
11:47 AM Lcvette: im trying to fix the docs
11:47 AM Lcvette: not just get it working
11:47 AM TurBoss: ok then if you need the designer you may need the files
11:47 AM TurBoss: https://github.com/kcjengr/qtpyvcp/tree/master/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit
11:47 AM Lcvette: were those not installed during git clone?
11:48 AM TurBoss: I have to go afk in some minutes
11:48 AM Lcvette: oklcvette too

12:31 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: have anyone rehosted the videos or should i upload it again? πŸ˜‰
12:31 PM Lcvette: think they were lost
12:31 PM Lcvette: would be great if you could reupload
12:31 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: No there is no broken tip πŸ˜…
12:32 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: okay, i will upload it again. Wait a minute πŸ™‚
12:33 PM Lcvette: yeah the persistence in the probing boxes is being worked on by hazzy, hopefully thats fixed soon and the calibration offset will be persistent until changed

12:34 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: Wow, that was fast 😍 thanks a lot!!!!!
12:35 PM Lcvette: great videos!
12:36 PM Lcvette: for teh time being, you can run the calibration with it cleared out to get the calibration offset, then you can change the probe tip diameter in the tool table
12:36 PM Lcvette: but watch out because the calibration box for soem reason does some wonky things still
12:37 PM Lcvette: but everything else works fine in metric?
12:37 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: hope you can now enjoy the videos πŸ˜‰ Absolut great work. I will show it on my youtube channel soon :slight_smile. It's a little channel and only in german. But this great screen has to be shown πŸ˜„
12:38 PM Lcvette: thanks Wandoo!! yes the videos were great!
12:38 PM Lcvette: hoping to get the screens dialed in soon!
12:38 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: so far it's going great
12:39 PM Lcvette: for the backplot preview, there are options to turn off some of the busyness
12:39 PM Lcvette: the tab under the jog window will bring those iopotions up
12:40 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: ah, okay
12:40 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: so i will have the hand on the rapid speed regulator πŸ˜…
12:42 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: In the videos the G0 was only 5 meter/minute πŸ˜… The machine is able to handle 12 meter/minute. But not with on my tests πŸ™ˆ
12:42 PM Lcvette: good idea for now im still testing it on the machine for the first time myself!
12:43 PM Lcvette: ok i will be back in about an hour, need to get some orders shipped out!
12:44 PM Lcvette: thanks again Wandoo and please keep us aprised of your thoughts and progress playing with Probe Basic!
12:44 PM Lcvette: \o/
12:45 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: For sure! Here is my machine by the way πŸ˜‰

01:37 PM Tom_L: next you need to build a carousel for it
01:38 PM Tom_L: i didn't have room for an enclosure like you did
01:38 PM Tom_L: that looks nice
01:39 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: @Lcvette i have only a youtube playlist. But the videos are in german

01:58 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: That's the milling machine. It is made of ultra high performance concrete.
02:01 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: I call it "Elke" because of a song from a german punk rock band. Translate in english the song is named "fat Elke" πŸ˜‚
02:01 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: I called it that because Beton is fat and ugly, just like Elke in the song
02:01 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: πŸ˜†
02:02 PM Tom_L: looks pretty solid
02:04 PM Tom_L: some have used epoxy granite
02:05 PM Wandoo1980|Sebas: it weight something about 1300 pounds
02:05 PM Tom_L: i can lift mine but barely and not for long
02:05 PM Tom_L: haven't weighed it
02:06 PM Tom_L: i moved it from the bench to the steel work table it sits on now
02:22 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~$ sudo ./install.sh
02:22 PM Lcvette: [sudo] password for chris:
02:22 PM Lcvette: sudo: ./install.sh: command not found
02:22 PM Lcvette: hazzy or turboss ^^
02:30 PM Lcvette: figured it out
02:30 PM Lcvette: is there a way in terminal to change to the directory below?
02:30 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~/qtpyvcp/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit$
02:30 PM jthornton: cd ..
02:31 PM jthornton: oh that's the wrong way
02:31 PM Lcvette: like: cd /qtpyvcp/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit
02:31 PM Lcvette: ?
02:31 PM jthornton: cd nameofdir
02:31 PM jthornton: yea
02:31 PM Lcvette: thats not working
02:31 PM Lcvette: do i just use the end folder?
02:32 PM jthornton: something not spelled right or your not above the qtpyvcp directory
02:32 PM Lcvette: cd Qt5.7.1-64bit
02:32 PM Lcvette: /home/chris/qtpyvcp/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit/
02:32 PM Lcvette: jthornton: ^^
02:32 PM Lcvette: thats the file path
02:33 PM jthornton: and?
02:33 PM Lcvette: is there a way to make it find that directory without the chris in there?
02:34 PM Lcvette: so i can make it a copy and paste line for the installer
02:34 PM Lcvette: ?
02:34 PM jthornton: what does pwd return
02:34 PM jthornton: ah yea ~/qtpyvcp/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit/
02:34 PM Lcvette: pwd?
02:34 PM jthornton: print working directory
02:34 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~$ cd /home/chris/qtpyvcp/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit/
02:34 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~/qtpyvcp/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit$
02:35 PM Lcvette: ah use the squigly
02:35 PM jthornton: yea
02:35 PM Lcvette: \p/
02:35 PM Lcvette: hurray!
02:35 PM Lcvette: thanks JT
02:35 PM jthornton: in a terminal pwd, ls, ls -l are handy to use
02:36 PM jthornton: you should try them...
02:36 PM Lcvette: i will
02:36 PM * jthornton heads to the shop
02:36 PM Lcvette: but after i finish this
02:36 PM Lcvette: almost at the end of the install docs test installation
02:36 PM Lcvette: i had to add back the lines i removed from the upgrade dist section
02:37 PM Lcvette: wouldn't go through without them
02:43 PM Tom_L: damn fine day here today
02:43 PM Tom_L: 70°F
02:44 PM Lcvette: here too
02:44 PM Tom_L: just mowed and showered on to the next thing
02:48 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~/qtpyvcp/pyqt5designer/Qt5.7.1-64bit$ cd
02:48 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~$
02:48 PM Lcvette: is that how i get back to the main directory?
02:48 PM Lcvette: Tom_l
02:48 PM Lcvette: ?
02:51 PM Tom_L: i either do cd .. or cd /home/tom
02:51 PM Tom_L: cd .. backs up one
02:52 PM Lcvette: i need to go all the way back in one line
02:52 PM Lcvette: cd looks like it works
02:52 PM Tom_L: it should (change directory)
02:53 PM Tom_L: bbl
02:54 PM Tom_L: mkdir if you want to make one
02:55 PM Lcvette: oh man i am sooo close
02:55 PM Lcvette: looks like the last thing needed is to install the bebas kai font
02:55 PM Lcvette: turboss or hazzy, how do i install that from the terminal?
03:07 PM JT-Shop: google linux install font from a terminal
03:08 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-10-07_16-02-01.png (40KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/SEuPEfTyfPOyIRvZOnmKRvCw >
03:08 PM Lcvette: it is included with the probe basic install in the fiolder
03:08 PM Lcvette: so i guess i need to install from the fo9lder?
03:08 PM Lcvette: or copy to the correct folder?
03:09 PM Lcvette: linux debian copy file command
03:27 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-10-07_16-21-27.png (50KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/lfiHRaVBXCMeKvrxCNwLLZoM >
03:27 PM Lcvette: this is the last thing to have a working doc and i am struggling with it
03:27 PM Lcvette: please help
03:28 PM Lcvette: need a line to creat a directory here called fonts:
03:28 PM Lcvette: /home/chris/.local/share/fonts/
03:29 PM Lcvette: then copy from here:
03:29 PM Lcvette: /home/chris/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts/BebasKai.ttf
03:29 PM Lcvette: to here:
03:29 PM Lcvette: /home/chris/.local/share/fonts/
03:29 PM Lcvette: but genericly without the chris so it works for everyone
03:31 PM Lcvette: TurBoss: ?
03:31 PM Lcvette: hazzy: ?
03:38 PM Lcvette: cp ~/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts ~/.local/share/
03:42 PM JT-Shop: looks right to me
03:44 PM Tom_dev: cp $HOME/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/probe_basic/fonts/BebasKai.ttf $HOME/.local/share/fonts/truetype
03:44 PM Tom_L[m]: Lcvette:
03:44 PM JT-Shop: that works as well as ~
04:47 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~$ cp ~/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts ~/.local/share/
04:47 PM Lcvette: cp: -r not specified; omitting directory '/home/chris/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts'
04:47 PM Lcvette: got sn error with thast one
04:47 PM JT-Shop: man cp
04:48 PM Lcvette: thats what i used
04:48 PM Lcvette: the one you said looked right to you
04:50 PM Lcvette: JT-Shop: not sure where im going wrong
04:50 PM Lcvette: looks like it should work according to what i found online
04:58 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~$ cp -r ~/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts/ ~/.local/share/
04:58 PM Lcvette: this worked
05:03 PM JT-Shop: I'll look in a few minutes
05:04 PM Lcvette: ok, this should work now i ran through it and it worked good for me except the last launcher portion i get an error message when trying to use the launcher, but you can run editvcp probe_basic in the terminal and launches dewsigner and all plugin are there as well as the fonts now!
05:04 PM Lcvette: https://kcjengr.github.io/probe_basic/dev_install.html
05:04 PM JT-Shop: your trying to copy a directory, not files?
05:04 PM Lcvette: docks are up and published and i would like a second tester to verify if any one is up for it!
05:05 PM Lcvette: copy the fonts folder with the file inside because there is not a fonts folder in the destination
05:05 PM Lcvette: it worked on my computer, the fonts folder is there and the font file is inside with that command
05:05 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~$ cp -r ~/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts/ ~/.local/share/
05:05 PM Lcvette: chris@lathe2:~$
05:06 PM Lcvette: checked and it is there!
05:06 PM Lcvette: so i assume it works?
05:07 PM Lcvette: JT-Shop: ^^
05:11 PM jthornton: glad you sorted it out
05:14 PM jthornton: aren't you glad you know how that works now?
05:16 PM Lcvette: i am
05:17 PM Lcvette: but im not sure what to do about the launcher still
05:17 PM jthornton: what does it not do?
05:18 PM Lcvette: launch the editor
05:19 PM jthornton: you mean editvcp does not work after installing qtpyvcp?
05:19 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-10-07_18-13-26.png (39KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/WoAtztyUWcOMxhKryAEsclIY >
05:20 PM Lcvette: put this same info in the new system with the proper path and it doesn't launch
05:20 PM jthornton: your trying to create a desktop launcher for pb?
05:21 PM Lcvette: for designer
05:24 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-10-07_18-18-01.png (40KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/CpIYcjokAqjQWETkqhwRKxUf >
05:24 PM Lcvette: figured it out
05:25 PM JT[m]: editvcp /home/john/github/mill_touch_v6/mill_touch_v6/config.yml
05:26 PM Lcvette: is there a generic method to call that directory without chris in it?
05:26 PM Lcvette: ~/.local/bin/editvcp probe_basic
05:26 PM Lcvette: tried that it didn't work
05:32 PM jthornton_: is pb installed?
05:38 PM Lcvette: yes
05:39 PM Lcvette: i can launch designer from temrinal editvcp probe_basic
05:39 PM Lcvette: launches no problem
05:39 PM jthornton: then the same command will work in a desktop launcher
05:40 PM Lcvette: thats what i thought too
05:40 PM Lcvette: but it does not
05:40 PM jthornton: your last image showed something different than editvcp probe_basic
05:40 PM Lcvette: requires this in the command line to launch
05:40 PM Lcvette: /home/chris/.local/bin/editvcp probe_basic
05:41 PM Lcvette: thats because editvcp prrobe_basic gave an error
05:41 PM jthornton: why? if it's installed you should be able to just say editvcp
05:41 PM Lcvette: editvcp probe_basic
05:41 PM Lcvette: thats what i thought too
05:41 PM Lcvette: sec
05:41 PM jthornton: does that work in a terminal?
05:42 PM Tom_L: writing instructions is fun ehh?
05:42 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-10-07_18-36-14.png (20KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/SXRsNagiqwpCsFSzlTOMtKWd >
05:42 PM Lcvette: yes, works in temrinal
05:42 PM jthornton: yea most people take it for granted
05:43 PM Lcvette: jthornton: ^^ see the error message
05:43 PM jthornton: then it will work as the command in a launcher
05:43 PM jthornton: looks like you have something before editvcp if it is a child process
05:43 PM jthornton: dunno
05:44 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-10-07_18-37-49.png (38KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/uJlWeFSskTXfDMrHuBEIkkBf >
05:44 PM Lcvette: that error comes from that launcher
05:44 PM Lcvette: nothing before it
05:45 PM Lcvette: jthornton ^^
05:46 PM jthornton: try just editvcp and see what happens. what desktop is that?
05:46 PM Lcvette: same
05:46 PM Tom_L: is it installed in /.local?
05:47 PM Lcvette: thats where i found it
05:47 PM Lcvette: and it launcheds if i use the folder view find method next to the line
05:48 PM Lcvette: but if i just enter in editvcp or editvcp probe_basic i get that child messege
05:48 PM Tom_L: did you try: export PATH=$PATH:~/.local/bin/ ?
05:49 PM Lcvette: where?
05:49 PM Lcvette: i just ran it in temrinal and it made no difference
05:49 PM Tom_L: k
05:49 PM Lcvette: temrinal accept editvcp probe_basic and launches probe basic in designer
05:55 PM Lcvette: Any other ideas?
05:56 PM Lcvette: I'm curious why it works on one computer and not this one
05:57 PM jthornton: and this one it works in the terminal?
05:58 PM Lcvette: Both work in the terminal
05:59 PM Lcvette: It's not a huge deal, I just know someone will miss the name in the line
06:00 PM jthornton: that's odd
06:15 PM Lcvette: https://kcjengr.github.io/probe_basic/dev_install.html
06:15 PM Lcvette: can anyone test?
06:15 PM Lcvette: Tom_L: ?
06:38 PM Tom_L: doing a couple things here atm
06:38 PM Tom_L: i might be able to after bit
06:40 PM Lcvette: cool
06:52 PM Lcvette: hazzy, please review the new install doc for dev
06:52 PM Lcvette: also for updating what do i need to put for this type installation?
06:54 PM Tom_L: i'll be installing from a debian dvd though
06:54 PM Tom_L: from there i'll use yours
06:54 PM Lcvette: i think thats fine
06:54 PM Lcvette: what is the diofference between thumb drive and debian dvd?
06:54 PM Tom_L: that's pretty much done for you in the iso
06:55 PM Tom_L: debian9 with stretch and linuxcnc 2.7
06:55 PM Tom_L: i've got it on a dvd :)
06:55 PM Lcvette: is dvd better?
06:55 PM Lcvette: ah
06:55 PM Tom_L: dunno
06:55 PM Tom_L: you gotta make the thumbdrive bootable otherwise but meh
06:55 PM Lcvette: same thing just on dvd instead of thumbdrive?
06:56 PM Lcvette: balena etcher is soo easy to use
06:56 PM Tom_L: copy the image and make it bootable
06:56 PM Tom_L: i haven't used it yet, i use something else
06:56 PM Lcvette: all ya do is download the iso
06:56 PM Tom_L: forget what for thumbdrive
06:56 PM Lcvette: then open balena ether point it to the thumbdrive and hit go
06:56 PM Lcvette: everything else is done for you and it works everytime
06:57 PM Tom_L: i think i'm gonna pull out my other test mb for this though so i don't mess up my main cad system
06:57 PM -!- #hazzy mode set to +o by ChanServ
06:57 PM Tom_L: my other test pc won't run preempt
06:57 PM Tom_L: too slow
06:57 PM Lcvette: bummer
06:58 PM Tom_L: no box for the MB but that just makes it fun
06:58 PM Lcvette: lol
06:58 PM Lcvette: circuits and guts everywhere
06:59 PM Lcvette: o/
06:59 PM Lcvette: nubby
07:00 PM Tom_L: mmm i forgot it's got the M2 ssd on it
07:04 PM Lcvette: :o
07:04 PM Lcvette: fancy
07:05 PM Tom_L: i think it's slower than a sata personally
07:05 PM Tom_L: well that mb/ssd combo
07:05 PM Lcvette: not nvme?
07:05 PM Tom_L: it should be faster
07:05 PM Tom_L: it is
07:05 PM Lcvette: mobo nvme?
07:06 PM Tom_L: oh i dunno
07:06 PM Lcvette: probably a firmware update to make it so if its an early version
07:06 PM Tom_L: i forget what that board is, it's a gigabyte
07:06 PM Lcvette: had to update mine to make it nvme compatible
07:06 PM Lcvette: was a big diffeence in speed
07:06 PM Tom_L: nothing i've got is state of the art
07:07 PM Tom_L: i think it's an i7 though and my i5 is faster
07:07 PM Lcvette: lol
07:07 PM Lcvette: yeah must be older
07:07 PM Lcvette: get the model number and check gigabyte website to see if they have an nvme firmware update
07:08 PM Tom_L: i stopped chasing state of the art years ago
07:08 PM Lcvette: yeah but if your drive is nvme and the mobo isn't you aren't getting near its potential
07:09 PM Lcvette: if you need the speed for large file transfers that is
07:09 PM Tom_L: this one's a B250M-DS3H
07:09 PM Lcvette: if not loet it ride as is
07:09 PM * hazzy-m tries to get into dev mode for a bit
07:10 PM Tom_L: hazzy-m all packed and ready to fly?
07:10 PM Tom_L: when _is_ your show?
07:11 PM Lcvette: \o/
07:11 PM hazzy-m: Tom_L: not yet, shipping frenzy this week, leave first thing Sunday morning
07:12 PM hazzy-m: MetalCon is the 16-18th, FABTECH is Nov 11-14th
07:13 PM Tom_L: i remember my bud went to chicago every year
07:13 PM Tom_L: McCormick place
07:15 PM hazzy-m: yep, I'm sick and tired of writing McCormick place already lol
07:15 PM Lcvette: lol
07:15 PM Tom_L: oh is that where this is?
07:15 PM hazzy-m: yes
07:16 PM Tom_L: cool
07:16 PM Tom_L: i dunno if they still go but you can look for the Contech booth if there's time
07:16 PM Tom_L: that site i posted the other day
07:18 PM Tom_L: doesn't look like it
07:18 PM Tom_L: they're not on the vendor list anyway
07:18 PM hazzy-m: their not in the registry
07:18 PM hazzy-m: :0
07:18 PM hazzy-m: )
07:18 PM Tom_L: i'm sure alot has changed since he died
07:19 PM Tom_L: his dad started it
07:21 PM hazzy-m: yeah, its a shame how small companies like that change when the owner is no longer there to guide it
07:21 PM Tom_L: pretty sure the head engineer took over
07:21 PM hazzy-m: the owner of MetalForming is in his late 70s, still very activly envolved, but we are all woried what will happen when he is gone
07:22 PM Tom_L: ever go to Louisville?
07:26 PM hazzy-m: Tom_L: Iv'e driven thru in the middlle of the night, does that count?

07:28 PM Tom_L: heh
07:29 PM hazzy-m: not baby Kia, that's my nephew ...
07:29 PM Tom_L: my kids both have competed there at skills at the big convention center there
07:35 PM Lcvette: yeah
07:35 PM Lcvette: i did this line
07:35 PM Lcvette: cp ~/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts ~/.local/share/
07:36 PM Lcvette: cp -r ~/probe_basic/probe_basic/fonts/ ~/.local/share/
07:37 PM * Tom_L looks for his debian9 disk

07:40 PM Lcvette: found it on the internet
07:40 PM Lcvette: lol
07:40 PM Tom_L: what's that?
07:41 PM Tom_L: oh the generic path thing?

08:11 PM Tom_L: yeah that's pretty impressive
08:12 PM Lcvette: Tom_L (@tlight:matrix.org): that's hardcore!!
08:12 PM Tom_L: i had to borrow a dvd drive
08:13 PM Tom_L: and i couldn't remember what was on the ssd so i took it off the MB
08:13 PM hazzy-m: Iv'e nevery understood those thinks, all the disadvantages of both a motorcycle and a car, not none of the advantages of either
08:17 PM Tom_L: Lcvette, link to your directions?

08:32 PM Tom_L: adding preempt-rt
08:32 PM Lcvette: \o/
08:32 PM Tom_L: requires reboot
08:32 PM Lcvette: Ah
08:32 PM Tom_L: it _is_ the system kernel
08:33 PM Lcvette: Dunno, didn't have to work the thumb drive method
08:34 PM Lcvette: Was all done for me I guess?
08:35 PM * hazzy-m uses DVD too, cheaper than a tumb drive :)
08:35 PM Lcvette: Most of my machine don't have dvd
08:36 PM Lcvette: Only USB
08:37 PM Tom_L: trying to decide where to pick up on your install
08:40 PM Lcvette: did you run sudo apt updat and sudo apt upgrade yet?
08:43 PM Tom_L: ages ago
08:45 PM Lcvette: need to upgrade to 2.8
08:45 PM Lcvette: or 2.9
08:45 PM Tom_L: gotta install 2.7 first
08:45 PM Tom_L: :)
08:45 PM Tom_L: i'm doing a dvd install remember?
08:49 PM Tom_dev: had to get this set up first :)
08:49 PM Lcvette: lol
08:50 PM Lcvette: never done that way myself
08:50 PM Lcvette: seems lerngthy and tedious
08:51 PM Tom_L: it's a bit more work but you get what you want that way
08:51 PM Tom_L: i get to choose my desktop for oen
08:51 PM Tom_L: one
08:51 PM Lcvette: thumbdrive gives you that option too
08:52 PM Tom_L: not from the iso
08:52 PM Tom_L: not the testing stretch iso
08:52 PM Lcvette: xfce or some other options
08:53 PM Tom_dev: i like mate better
08:55 PM Tom_dev: ok i'm on 2 of yours now
08:55 PM Lcvette: \o/
08:56 PM Tom_dev: but i didn't do a linuxcnc upgrade cause it wasn't installed to begin with
08:56 PM Tom_dev: ok 2.8 installed
08:56 PM Lcvette: long as its 2.8 you should be good i would think
08:56 PM Tom_dev: yep
08:58 PM Tom_dev: step 4
09:00 PM Lcvette: \o/
09:00 PM Tom_dev: 5

09:01 PM * Tom_dev waits
09:01 PM Lcvette: and you installed everything else?
09:01 PM Tom_dev: i'm following your directions from step 2
09:02 PM Lcvette: hmm maybe thats where the logout is required?
09:02 PM Tom_dev: cut n paste
09:02 PM Tom_dev: copy n paste
09:02 PM Tom_dev: :)
09:02 PM Lcvette: that file should be there if qtpyvcp was installed
09:03 PM Tom_dev: it is but your command isn't working
09:03 PM hazzy-m: Tom_dev: what does ls ~/qtpyvcp say?
09:03 PM Lcvette: hmmm
09:04 PM Tom_dev: oh hold on a sec
09:04 PM Lcvette: miss something?
09:05 PM Tom_dev: no, i do sudo su instead of sudo every line
09:05 PM Lcvette: the .
09:05 PM Lcvette: ?
09:05 PM Tom_dev: it thinks i'm root
09:05 PM Tom_dev: other terminal worked
09:05 PM Lcvette: so you were adding sudo?
09:06 PM Lcvette: not supposed to deviate from the guide
09:06 PM Tom_dev: you don't have to with sudo su
09:06 PM Tom_dev: don
09:06 PM Lcvette: thats what clint did and it caused problem
09:06 PM Tom_dev: don't worry, it's working so far
09:06 PM Lcvette: \o/
09:06 PM Tom_dev: 6
09:06 PM Lcvette: \o/
09:09 PM Lcvette: you are making me nbervous\
09:09 PM Lcvette: step now?
09:10 PM Tom_dev: 18
09:11 PM Lcvette: \o/

09:13 PM Lcvette: did you make the icon launcher?
09:14 PM Lcvette: lol
09:14 PM Lcvette: so the issue you had was on your end?
09:14 PM Tom_L[m]: no i'm following the directions
09:14 PM Tom_L[m]: i'm on step 9
09:15 PM Lcvette: i mean the sudo su thing
09:15 PM Lcvette: or i need t add some instruction somewhere for that?

09:16 PM Tom_L: no the sudo thing was me
09:16 PM Lcvette: is that from the icon?
09:16 PM Tom_L[m]: yes
09:16 PM Tom_L[m]: copy and paste from your directions
09:16 PM Lcvette: did you put your name in?
09:17 PM Lcvette: NOTE: for the command line be sure to change the β€œYOUR_COMPUTER_NAME_HERE” for you actual computer name, for example /home/jacob/.local/bin/editvcp probe_basic or the launcher will give an error!
09:17 PM Lcvette: Command: /home/YOUR_COMPUTER_NAME_HERE/.local/bin/editvcp probe_basic
09:17 PM Lcvette: or did you copy and paste it without editing?
09:18 PM Tom_L[m]: probably :)
09:18 PM Lcvette: ?
09:19 PM Tom_L[m]: still an error
09:20 PM Lcvette: Hmm
09:20 PM Lcvette: Well not sure how to fix that
09:20 PM Tom_L[m]: "/home/tom/.local/bin/editvcp probe_basic"
09:21 PM Lcvette: Open the launcher and hit the button next to that line and go to that path and see if editvcp is there
09:21 PM Tom_L[m]: should it be 'application in terminal" ?
09:21 PM Lcvette: No
09:21 PM Lcvette: Executable
09:22 PM Lcvette: Unless what you said works?
09:23 PM Tom_L[m]: nope

09:26 PM Tom_L[m]: it's not there
09:27 PM Lcvette: if you cick that button and follow the path like in the previous image, do you have editvcp there?
09:27 PM Lcvette: try logging out and back in
09:28 PM Tom_L[m]: nope
09:28 PM Lcvette: wtf
09:28 PM Lcvette: but editvcp works in terminal
09:28 PM Lcvette: not sure where it would be
09:29 PM Lcvette: unless its something with the dvd installation
09:29 PM Tom_L[m]: there is no editvcp directory in .local
09:29 PM Tom_L[m]: on mine
09:29 PM Lcvette: bin
09:29 PM Lcvette: .local/bin
09:29 PM Tom_L[m]: that's what i meant
09:30 PM Tom_L[m]: nothing but a probe_basic script file
09:30 PM Lcvette: well something is wrong because thats the executable that runs editvcp in terminal
09:31 PM Lcvette: and you can run it in terminal since i saw you post an image of designer open

09:32 PM Tom_L[m]: i know
09:32 PM Lcvette: then its something to do with your dvd install has to be
09:33 PM Lcvette: not sure where else it would have put it
09:33 PM Tom_L[m]: no i don't think so
09:33 PM Tom_L[m]: all that gets installed later
09:33 PM Lcvette: thats is where it put it on my machine
09:33 PM Lcvette: the installer
09:33 PM Lcvette: maybe hazzy knows
09:34 PM Lcvette: but everything else works?
09:34 PM Lcvette: you can open probe basic?
09:34 PM Lcvette: and open the editor
09:34 PM Lcvette: via temrinal
09:34 PM Tom_L[m]: i gave you a screen shot of that
09:34 PM Lcvette: i mean linuxcnc
09:35 PM Tom_L[m]: the sims aren't installed
09:35 PM Lcvette: ok
09:35 PM Tom_L[m]: and i ran linuxcnc before i went further like it said
09:36 PM Lcvette: i can fix that
09:36 PM Lcvette: sek
09:39 PM Lcvette: Tom_L:
09:39 PM Lcvette: ```**11- Congratualtions you have made it through and should be ready to start having fun!**

09:40 PM Lcvette: no wait
09:40 PM Lcvette: cp -r ~/probe_basic/config/xyzab/ ~/linuxcnc/configs/
09:41 PM Lcvette: run that in temrinal
09:41 PM Lcvette: then see if its in linuxcnc launch enu
09:41 PM Lcvette: menu
09:42 PM Tom_L[m]: that works
09:42 PM Lcvette: \o/
09:42 PM Lcvette: ok great i will add that in the docs
09:43 PM Tom_L[m]: that's just he sims though
09:44 PM Lcvette: thats everything that needs to go in there right now
09:44 PM Lcvette: should open and work
09:44 PM Tom_L: the sim ran yes
09:45 PM Lcvette: if you launch xyzab from the launcher menu it shouold open and run
09:45 PM Lcvette: what are you saying it is missing?
09:45 PM Lcvette: im not putting in the other sim currently until it is resorted and working again
09:45 PM Lcvette: need turboss for that when he finishes the offset table
09:46 PM Lcvette: referring to the vismatch stuff
09:46 PM Tom_L[m]: editvcp is not in the ./local/bin directory
09:46 PM Tom_L[m]: which breaks your launcher
09:46 PM Lcvette: think i need hazzy to sort that one out
09:46 PM Lcvette: that gets planted by the installer which is over my head
09:47 PM Tom_L[m]: the rest works
09:47 PM Lcvette: yeah and as long as editvcp works in terminal its usable
09:47 PM Lcvette: hopefull;y hazzy can figure out the launcher thing
09:49 PM Tom_L: it just needs the correct path to editvcp
09:49 PM Tom_L: or move the script to ./local/bin
09:50 PM Lcvette: yeah, but if the installer is randomly placing it in different places how can i instruct where to find it?
09:50 PM Lcvette: lol
09:50 PM Tom_L: it shouldn't be
09:50 PM Lcvette: the only difference between our two installs was the dvd
09:50 PM Lcvette: so i don't know what else would have caused it
09:50 PM Tom_L: that's not the problem
09:51 PM Lcvette: its in the same place on my opther two machines
09:51 PM Lcvette: all were installed with the stretch test usb
09:52 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-10-07_22-46-19.png (248KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/hbgphGLAYFClUUkKznCZDjrM >
09:53 PM Tom_L: all of that is qtpyvcp installed stuff though
09:53 PM Tom_L: and ./local/bin is there on both pcs

09:53 PM Lcvette: i checked my machine install as well and same place
09:54 PM Lcvette: all three were different installation methods
09:54 PM Lcvette: but that file is always in the same place
09:54 PM Lcvette: im stumped
09:55 PM Tom_L: i'm not. i'm tired.
09:55 PM Lcvette: all of the all of thelol
09:55 PM Tom_L: going for system shutdown
09:55 PM Lcvette: k
09:55 PM Lcvette: thanks thanks!~
09:55 PM Tom_L: i'll leave the drive like it is
09:56 PM Lcvette: at least the hard stuff works
09:56 PM Lcvette: that will be easy to sort and fix
09:56 PM Lcvette: k
09:56 PM Tom_L: i can start over another day if needed
09:56 PM Tom_L: from the dvd install
09:56 PM Lcvette: no need, i think its proven out now
09:57 PM Lcvette: for those who know enough to run a dvd install and do kernel build i think it will be easy enough to run things in temrinal
09:57 PM Lcvette: this launcher is really geared more towards linux nebies
09:57 PM Lcvette: so they don't have to remember temrinal code to launch stuff
09:57 PM Lcvette: just icon clicking
10:08 PM Lcvette: wonder if the sudo su thing maybe put them in the root bin folder
10:08 PM Lcvette: bet thats what happened on your install, that was the only other things different
10:08 PM Lcvette: Tom_L: ^^^
10:08 PM Tom_L: no
10:09 PM Tom_L: that just prevents you from having to type sudo on every line
10:09 PM Lcvette: usr/local/bin
10:09 PM Tom_L: but that other command didn't run because it thought i was root\
10:09 PM Tom_L: opening up another 'user' terminal fixed that
10:10 PM Lcvette: so it doesn't run in sudo mode for all other lines?
10:10 PM Lcvette: prior tow where you had the issue
10:10 PM Tom_L: it does
10:11 PM Lcvette: ok most of those lines are not supposed to run in sudo mode
10:11 PM Lcvette: which would give access to root priveledge during install no?
10:25 PM Tom_L: i won't say it couldn't happen but it installed the rest in the /home/tom/ directory
10:25 PM Tom_L: probe_basic is there
10:27 PM Tom_L: i can run it again tomorrow
