05:33 PM Lcvette: but its cleaned out now to where it says its no longer able to uninstall because its missing
05:45 PM jthornton: wow 4 topics on qtpyvcp https://forum.linuxcnc.org/41-guis
06:41 PM roguish[m]: jthornton: JT. do you have a copy of SoftDMC from Mesa?
06:42 PM jthornton: no, never used it... why?
06:47 PM roguish[m]: ah, just over at house of PCW debugging my troubled 7i40 drives. he was using it to test the drive with motor hooked up. dos software but pretty nice for testing.
06:48 PM roguish[m]: I'll ask him. I think it free if using Mesa products.
06:48 PM jthornton: yea I think it is a free download
06:48 PM jthornton: your at the mesa store?
06:49 PM roguish[m]: yes,
06:49 PM roguish[m]: but i dont' seem to find it.
06:50 PM Tom_L: it's store listed for $100

06:52 PM roguish[m]: can also email him at tech@mesa
06:53 PM jthornton: is he not there?
06:54 PM jthornton: The SoftDMC firmware is included free with all Mesa FPGA based cards
06:56 PM roguish[m]: I just can't seem to find it. looked in lots of the support zip files.
06:57 PM jthornton: I can't find it either, prob some freebymesa url
06:58 PM Tom_L: i have a zip file with it
06:58 PM roguish[m]: Tom_L:would you mind sharing? somehow?
06:59 PM Tom_L: check the 7i43 file
06:59 PM Tom_L: that's where it's at
06:59 PM Tom_L: i don't mind if you can't find it
06:59 PM roguish[m]: looking now

07:23 PM Lcvette: Probe basic broke
07:23 PM hazzy-m: spent the day sorting demo blanks
07:24 PM hazzy-m: got a few of them lol
07:24 PM Lcvette: I uninstalled and when I installed the new one from the new repository it won't install
07:24 PM hazzy-m: aha, bad eggs, thats no fun :(
07:24 PM Lcvette: Bad egg info
07:25 PM hazzy-m: did you install form PyPi or from the dir ?
07:25 PM Lcvette: Setup. Py

07:25 PM hazzy-m: ok
07:25 PM Lcvette: I did the pip
07:25 PM Lcvette: I uninstalled all the old one
07:26 PM Lcvette: Ran uninstall multiple times too I got the red message
07:26 PM Lcvette: Then restarted and ran the deps and pip
07:26 PM Lcvette: Failed in pip
07:26 PM Lcvette: That the message above
07:26 PM * hazzy-m sent a long message: < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/matrix.org/tUXRkJofSnWyWCybDlQfiuoN >
07:27 PM hazzy-m: so it just doesn't like you ...
07:27 PM Lcvette: Python Setup.py eggs info
07:27 PM Lcvette: What the?
07:27 PM hazzy-m: do you have QtPyVCP installed still?
07:27 PM hazzy-m: run `qtpyvcp -v`
07:28 PM Lcvette: No
07:28 PM Lcvette: I uninstalled
07:28 PM hazzy-m: ah, you still need qtpyvcp
07:29 PM Lcvette: so i need to install qtpyvcp?
07:30 PM hazzy-m: yes
07:30 PM hazzy-m: but we do have a slight problemo
07:30 PM hazzy-m: we try to compile using qcompile which is included with QtPyVCP before installing QtPyVCP
07:31 PM hazzy-m: that won't work lol
07:31 PM hazzy-m: but if you install QtPyVCP first it will workl because it is already isntalled
07:31 PM Lcvette: can qtpyvcp install from the probe basic linik too?
07:32 PM Lcvette: this is more difficult then it was before to install
07:32 PM Lcvette: seems worse not better easier
07:32 PM Lcvette: and the instructions don't say anything about installing qtpyvcp
07:45 PM hazzy-m: yes, when you install probe basic it will automagicaly install QtPyVCP, but I right now it installes them in the wrong order
07:45 PM hazzy-m: easy fix
07:46 PM Lcvette: so will i need to wait to install once fixed?
07:46 PM hazzy-m: no
07:46 PM Lcvette: i just installed and now trying to make sense of everything
07:46 PM Lcvette: before once installed it was all right there
07:46 PM Lcvette: ready to go
07:46 PM hazzy-m: just install QtPyVCP first
07:46 PM hazzy-m: its only broken because you uninstalled QtPyVCP
07:47 PM Lcvette: i mean when you fix will you still need to install qtpyvcp first?
07:48 PM hazzy-m: no
07:48 PM Lcvette: or will it install with just the probe basic page
07:48 PM Lcvette: ok
07:48 PM hazzy-m: you will have to install the deps of course, but not QtPyVCP itself
07:48 PM Lcvette: sweet!
07:48 PM Lcvette: those are on the web poage already
07:49 PM hazzy-m: ok sweet
07:49 PM Lcvette: ok im installed but can't get it to run
07:49 PM hazzy-m: it is probably simplest to refer them to the QTPyVCP docs so they always have the most up-to-date install instructions ...
07:50 PM Lcvette: now we are going to various websites to isntall?
07:50 PM Lcvette: why not just put probe basic back with qtpyvcp?
07:50 PM Lcvette: seems like it would be easier
07:51 PM hazzy-m: because it makes it MUCH easyer to deal with
07:51 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-09-27_20-44-19.png (64KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/matrix.org/uGHRogKRCJAUfHsgDsGqEuro >
07:51 PM hazzy-m: I mean MUCH easyer
07:51 PM Lcvette: not for end users
07:51 PM hazzy-m: for both installing and development
07:51 PM hazzy-m: yet it does
07:51 PM Lcvette: not seo fasr
07:51 PM Lcvette: ^^^
07:51 PM Lcvette: use to run was easy to install
07:51 PM Lcvette: now nothing but problems
07:52 PM hazzy-m: that is a mesa card problem
07:52 PM hazzy-m: to you have power to the card?
07:52 PM Lcvette: i mean im only pointing to my experience thus far with the new arrangement
07:52 PM Lcvette: not a mesa card problem
07:52 PM Lcvette: worked just before changing to the new probe basic
07:52 PM Lcvette: boards are powered\
07:53 PM Lcvette: cabinet hasn't been opened between\
07:53 PM hazzy-m: it says waiting for the card to become ready, and it never does ...
07:53 PM Lcvette: every messege says that
07:53 PM Lcvette: but its an issue soeme where else
07:54 PM hazzy-m: ok, well I can't trouble shoot with a error snippet like that
07:54 PM hazzy-m: please post the whole output
07:57 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-09-27_20-51-55.png (143KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/matrix.org/isfYBnykqHqfVOHzmOGboZZj >

07:59 PM hazzy-m: post the text, that is just a tiny snippet and very card to read
07:59 PM Lcvette: it won't let me copy
07:59 PM hazzy-m: create a report file

08:06 PM Lcvette: hazzy ^^^
08:07 PM Lcvette: bebas kai is missing
08:07 PM Lcvette: i was able to get the sim to open
08:13 PM Lcvette: hazzy: ^^^
08:22 PM Lcvette: because the sim is opening im not nsure what my machine configuration is miussing
08:22 PM Lcvette: i just went through the inin and made sure all the paths were correct and they are
08:25 PM Lcvette: i copied over the config file to linuxcnc/probe_basic/configs/

08:25 PM Lcvette: now i get this message
08:27 PM hazzy-m: Lcvette: Its had to say withough the full error text, but agian it looks like a problem with the mesa card com
08:28 PM Lcvette: i sent the full previous error text
08:28 PM Lcvette: i got the same errors the previous time
08:28 PM Lcvette: always see the hm2z_eth message
08:29 PM Lcvette: it generally becomes ready when linuxcnc loads
08:31 PM Lcvette: hazzy: ^^^^
08:31 PM Lcvette: its gotta be something else
08:31 PM Lcvette: nothing with the mesa card has changed
08:31 PM Lcvette: that i know of
08:33 PM Lcvette: but bebas kai is missing so something is still not right with the install
08:33 PM Lcvette: its not complete somewhere
08:57 PM * Lcvette uploaded an image: Screenshot_2019-09-19_22-26-35.png (60KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/matrix.org/SoSOcYklyzFDkuOoBHLlPShY >
08:58 PM Lcvette: hazzy this is from when i install qtpyvcp the first time and the same hm2_eth message was displayed it displays that message everytime there is an issue and linuxcnc does not complete loading
08:58 PM Lcvette: sp please do not dismiss this as a hardware problem
08:58 PM Lcvette: it isn't its something else
08:58 PM Lcvette: everything was running fine earlier before i did the c=switch to the new repository
09:01 PM Lcvette: existing problems are that probe basic is missing the bebas kai font, for the sim to run and im not wuse why my other config isn't mrunning as i have changed everything in the ini to reflect correct paths nothing else has changed
09:01 PM Lcvette: here is the ini
09:01 PM * Lcvette sent a long message: < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/matrix.org/FNEUVtfPPlFmjRpOuuKTAsGW >
09:10 PM hazzy-m: bebas kia is not installed because I have not atted it to the setup.py yet, but that does not effect anything else
09:11 PM Lcvette: no but you say its the mesa card yet every other error from before had that same message about hm2_eth
09:11 PM Lcvette: its not the mesa card
09:11 PM Lcvette: something is wrong software
09:11 PM Lcvette: maybe from me uninstalling?
09:11 PM Lcvette: i dunno
09:11 PM hazzy-m: if you think it is something with the new probe basic then change the DISPLAY option in your INI to the old `probebasic` (rather than `probe_basic`)
09:12 PM hazzy-m: that will rule that out at lease
09:12 PM hazzy-m: t
09:12 PM hazzy-m: did you reinstall QtPyVCP>/
09:12 PM hazzy-m: ?
09:12 PM Lcvette: not if the problem stems from installing everything new
09:12 PM Lcvette: becaus ei hasd the old one installed previously\
09:13 PM hazzy-m: it will rlue out the new repo being the rpbelm, which is what you have been saying
09:13 PM Lcvette: did turboss remove the old probebasic?
09:13 PM hazzy-m: we have not removed probe basic from QtPyVCO yet, sothat is all the same
09:15 PM Lcvette: well last time there were qtpyvcp options under linuxcnc
09:15 PM Lcvette: now there are not
09:15 PM Lcvette: i had to physically add them
09:16 PM hazzy-m: nothing has changed
09:16 PM * hazzy-m must sleep
09:16 PM hazzy-m: will be up bright and realy with a fresh mind
09:17 PM Lcvette: im gone tomorrow morning untilp the afternoon
09:17 PM Lcvette: be around then?
09:17 PM hazzy-m: ok, will try to have some goodies ready for you
09:17 PM hazzy-m: yes, should be
09:17 PM Lcvette: \o/ thanks you]
09:18 PM Lcvette: night
09:18 PM hazzy-m: gn8
09:34 PM Tom_L: Lcvette you get it worked out?
09:35 PM Lcvette: Tom_L (@freenode_Tom_L:matrix.org): no
09:36 PM Lcvette: Think I'm just going to do a fresh looking install tomorrow afternoon
09:36 PM Lcvette: Linux*
09:36 PM Tom_L: you were geting that error when your mpg.ini was botched
09:36 PM Tom_L: you sure you didn't overwrite an ini or hal file?
09:36 PM Lcvette: Yeah
09:36 PM Lcvette: It's not a hardware issue
09:37 PM Lcvette: No
09:37 PM Tom_L: that error is
09:37 PM Lcvette: I saved them prior to uninstalling everything
09:37 PM Lcvette: All my machine specific files
09:37 PM Tom_L: have you looked at them?
09:38 PM Lcvette: In great fine detail
09:38 PM Tom_L: you missed one fine detail somewhere
09:39 PM Lcvette: Maybe
09:39 PM Tom_L: oh
09:39 PM Lcvette: But the only thing that should change are the paths
09:40 PM Tom_L: you see it's addressing it as GPIO and it wasn't doing that before
09:40 PM Lcvette: I made sure those were all correct
09:40 PM Tom_L: rather input-20
09:40 PM Tom_L: GPIO.20 does not exhist because you call it input-20
09:40 PM Tom_L: remember?
09:41 PM Lcvette: I just pulled that from a previous example to show that the hm2 message is always there along with whatever other debug message
09:41 PM Tom_L: something is making a call to GPIO.20
09:41 PM Tom_L: and it shouldn't
09:41 PM Lcvette: That's message is from the mpg install errors
09:41 PM Lcvette: Not current
09:42 PM Tom_L: i thought that was the last error you posted
09:42 PM Tom_L: i didn't read the whole log context
09:42 PM Tom_L: was asleep

09:43 PM Lcvette: This is the current message
09:44 PM Lcvette: Hazzy was saying he thought it was hardware store because of hm2_eth waiting to become ready
09:44 PM Lcvette: I was showing him that message always is there when it doesn't load
09:44 PM Lcvette: It being linuxcnc
09:45 PM Tom_L: anything specific further in the error message?
09:45 PM Lcvette: Not that I see
09:46 PM Tom_L: did you get qtpyvcp re'installed?
09:46 PM Lcvette: I uninstalled qtpyvcp earlier and reinstalled from the new repo
09:47 PM Lcvette: And since it's not working
09:47 PM Tom_L: does qtpyvcp work?
09:47 PM Lcvette: Worked 5 minutes prior to doing the uninstall
09:47 PM Lcvette: I only have the user install not the dev
09:47 PM Lcvette: The Sim loads
09:47 PM Lcvette: But it's missing the correct font
09:48 PM Tom_L: did you try loading the dev?
09:48 PM Lcvette: No I'm gonna let hazzy finish what he needs to then do a clean install tomorrow
09:48 PM Lcvette: I want to be able to install it the same way anyone else would and have it work
09:49 PM Tom_L: i realize tat
09:49 PM Tom_L: that
09:50 PM Lcvette: This is what I didn't want
09:50 PM Tom_L: and that's why it happened :)
09:50 PM Tom_L: Murphy
09:50 PM Lcvette: Require people to go to the different places now to install
09:51 PM Lcvette: Before it was only two, linuxcnc install them qtpyvcp
09:51 PM Lcvette: And you had everything
09:51 PM Lcvette: But hazzy said he was going to include qtpyvcp with probe basic
09:51 PM Lcvette: So we'll see
09:52 PM Lcvette: Hope it works
09:52 PM Lcvette: Having to go so many places with docs all over the place is the prime reason linuxcnc is viewed as so difficult by most penial users
09:52 PM Lcvette: But devs never seen to grasp that
09:53 PM Tom_L: you probably need it's core for yours to work
09:54 PM Tom_L: kinda like making library calls with a missing library
09:55 PM Lcvette: If that's the case, it should have just stayed in qtpyvcp
09:55 PM Lcvette: Why complicate things
09:55 PM Tom_L: :)
09:57 PM Tom_L: so if qtpyvcp is installed basically you could run any qtpyvcp gui you create
09:57 PM Tom_L: instead of having it bundled with each individual one
09:59 PM Lcvette: sure
09:59 PM Tom_L: i know that's not what you had in mind
09:59 PM Lcvette: but it doesn't hurt to have a few templates avail
10:00 PM Lcvette: i understand qtpyvc is a building compnent rather then a gui dispensery
10:00 PM Lcvette: but probe basic kinda has everything in it as a template
10:01 PM Lcvette: from the response so far on instagram, youtube, the forums, people feel its an evolutionary step up in linux guis
10:01 PM Lcvette: no gui pleases everybody and get that
10:01 PM Tom_L: but if someone was to use it as a guide, can you cut and paste sections of it to another gui?
10:02 PM Lcvette: you can change it
10:02 PM Lcvette: mothigs around
10:02 PM Lcvette: change colors
10:02 PM Lcvette: styles
10:02 PM Lcvette: dragging things around keeps connections
10:02 PM Lcvette: cutting and pasting does not
10:02 PM Tom_L: hope someone is writing a howto for it
10:04 PM Lcvette: so if you wanted to make a square screen version you could remove the things you didn't want on the main screen
10:04 PM Lcvette: the drag and rezise containers to your liking
10:04 PM Lcvette: when i did the vertical screen i took me less then an house ragging and dropng stuff
10:04 PM Lcvette: if you were to try and build a gui from scratch you would have alot longer id uless yo went minmalistic like JT's
10:05 PM Lcvette: those you can whip together retty fast
10:05 PM Tom_L: if you know what you're doing
10:05 PM Tom_L: you should be thinking like a noob gui builder
10:06 PM Tom_L: so it's simple to follow the steps for someone new to it
10:06 PM Tom_L: i think what you're doing is fantastic but the average person wouldn't be able to do that
10:07 PM Lcvette: the atc stuff from scratch would be a problem
10:07 PM Lcvette: i have n clue how turboss did his wonderful magic
10:08 PM Lcvette: i understand how it works looking at the code but no the average joe would have no clue how to code something like that
10:08 PM Lcvette: that is top level programming
10:08 PM Tom_L: and the key to success is being able to use it and make something useful
10:08 PM Lcvette: that is a rather lofty endeavor
10:08 PM Lcvette: but again, in probe basic its done for you
10:09 PM Lcvette: you simply have to deal with the remap ngc coding which is worlds easier to pickup and work with than actual code
10:10 PM Lcvette: the probing routines there are i think 36+ routines all are well over apage long
10:10 PM Lcvette: to start that from scratch would take alot
10:10 PM Lcvette: i was locked into the zone when i wrote those
10:10 PM Tom_L: yup
10:10 PM Lcvette: lol
10:12 PM Lcvette: so my point is with such a universally accepted gui why not use it as representation of what qtpyvcp can do and or allow it to be the gui for users who have been looking for a more intuitive interactive interface
10:12 PM Lcvette: i probably have over 200 requests for when its finally ready for mainstream use
10:12 PM Tom_L: i think it's good that you have a showcase gui for qtpyvcp
10:13 PM Lcvette: thats what i thought and what we discussed in the early days, but then all of a suddent he big push for its own repository and i never fully understood it but i had to put trust in the guys who know more about code then i do
10:13 PM Lcvette: so far though i have bnot seen the benefits of it
10:14 PM Tom_L: simplified steps for installation is about all i can see
10:14 PM Lcvette: think it was a bad decision from my perspective but i still don't know the depth of the purpose so i can't say if its going to be a good or bad thing
10:15 PM Lcvette: but its not
10:15 PM Tom_L: yet
10:15 PM Lcvette: it now requires you to go to qtpyvcp first
10:15 PM Lcvette: then go to probe_basicpyside
10:15 PM Lcvette: then hazzy was saying we need to revert people to the qtlyvcp docs
10:16 PM Lcvette: so from my limited perspective i am asking myself if you need to direct them to qtpyvcp to install it and direct them to the qtpyvcp docs
10:16 PM Lcvette: why even have a seperate place for it?
10:16 PM Lcvette: seems odd
10:16 PM Tom_L: a little
10:17 PM Lcvette: turboss says its better because i have more freedom with it now
10:17 PM Tom_L: probably
10:17 PM Lcvette: let me tell ya freedom with it is the LAST thing this guys needs
10:17 PM Lcvette: thats just rope to hangmyself with
10:17 PM Tom_L: but you'll learn
10:17 PM Lcvette: lol
10:18 PM Lcvette: oh well maybe hazzy will be able to show me the light after his magic tomorrow
10:18 PM Tom_L: i'll be waiting to see what happens
10:19 PM Lcvette: i think it should be like i told turboss the other day, a small library of examples like it was each with full installation instruction on each page
10:19 PM Lcvette: or maybe check boxes for whichever gui example you would like to instyall so you don't get the whole bloated package
10:19 PM Lcvette: but then again im a windows lifer
10:20 PM Lcvette: like 80% of the people who want to switch to lnuxcnc but are terrified of its complexity
10:29 PM Lcvette: lol.. to windows users.. you would be considered a linux guru
10:29 PM Lcvette: lol
10:29 PM Tom_L: i am a windows user
10:30 PM Lcvette: i mean windows users who don't know anything about linux
10:33 PM Tom_L: did you ever figure out that mouseover thing?
10:35 PM Lcvette: mouseover?
10:35 PM Lcvette: you mean the tooltip?
10:35 PM Lcvette: no
10:35 PM Tom_L: i think so yes
10:35 PM Lcvette: the hover for info on the button?
10:35 PM Tom_L: yeah
10:35 PM Lcvette: i see how it works but don't know how to implement it
10:36 PM Lcvette: seems to need coding
10:36 PM Tom_L: i think so
10:36 PM Lcvette: thats where i fall short
10:36 PM Lcvette: be nice to have a tutor mode that you can select so it gives those while you feel your way around the gui is what i was thinking
10:37 PM Lcvette: then be able to turn it off once your up to speed
10:37 PM Lcvette: would be good on a few of the buttons
10:38 PM Lcvette: i think it would round out the user experience in the beginning and give confidence
10:46 PM Tom_itx: https://www.python-course.eu/tkinter_events_binds.php
10:48 PM Lcvette: i need a different learning style
10:48 PM Lcvette: i tried last year to understand it but i need a global explanation
10:48 PM Lcvette: what its doing with diagrams and what not
10:49 PM Lcvette: until i see that learning it a small piece at a time without a global understanding of what is happening it makes no sense to me
10:49 PM Lcvette: so i get glazed over in the first few steps
10:49 PM Tom_itx: https://nitratine.net/blog/post/simulate-mouse-events-in-python/
10:49 PM Lcvette: im just repeating like a monkey see monkey do
