12:05 AM aandrew: woo znc and irssi back
01:25 AM rue_shop4: ioh crap, I got my numbers wrong at the start
01:25 AM rue_shop4: I CANNOT use a flyback boost converter to take 1.5V up to 3.3 at 80mA
01:25 AM rue_shop4: it sounds to trivial
01:26 AM rue_shop4: but it cant be done in boost
01:27 AM rue_shop4: so the question is WHY cant you
01:27 AM rue_shop4: well
01:28 AM rue_shop4: its a mix of, the source impenance, the boost ratio and the power delivery ratio
01:28 AM rue_shop4: you need to run the inductor at about 83% duty
01:28 AM rue_shop4: which means you have 17% duty of power delivered to the load
01:28 AM rue_shop4: but thats too small and the avarage cant be high enough
01:29 AM rue_shop4: this HAS to be a pushpull
01:29 AM rue_shop4: which takes the power delivery % of 17 to 100
01:30 AM rue_shop4: which takes the power delivery % from 17 to 100
01:30 AM rue_shop4: which takes the power delivery % from 17 to 100%
01:30 AM rue_shop4: AND
01:30 AM rue_shop4: if you undervoltage a LM393, it will lock its output low
01:30 AM rue_shop4: which isn't a problem on the LM311
01:31 AM rue_shop4: this is an important thing to know if your using a comparator to turn off the supply when its up to voltage and your powering it WITH the converters output
01:33 AM rue_shop4: unfortunatly I have not been able to cough up a pushpull converter I can *just turn off*
01:46 AM rue_shop4: ok,. I'm wrong again
01:46 AM rue_shop4: for the 80mA limit I am targeting, the load resistor at 3.3V is 42 ohms
01:46 AM rue_shop4: and it can *just barely* hold that
01:47 AM rue_shop4: ... on a good battery
01:47 AM rue_shop4: I wonder if 3.0V is as good as 3.3
01:47 AM rue_shop4: I'm at 3.23 and the battery is at 1.2 and dropping
12:53 PM rue_mohr: http://jyougasaki-2.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/2018/04/14-97a5.html
12:53 PM rue_mohr: hmm
12:53 PM rue_mohr: how can they get so much more power than I am
12:54 PM Tom_L: did you duplicate their schematic?
12:55 PM rue_mohr: no, but I could NOT get any more power out of a core than what I did
12:56 PM Tom_L: did you translate it?
12:56 PM rue_mohr: no
12:56 PM Tom_L: https://jyougasaki--2-cocolog--nifty-com.translate.goog/blog/2018/04/14-97a5.html?_x_tr_sch=http&_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp
12:57 PM rue_mohr: does not say anything unexpected
12:59 PM rue_mohr: oh
12:59 PM rue_mohr: maybe the answer is right there, battery: 1.2-1.5V mine was at 1.1 by the time I was finished testing
12:59 PM rue_mohr: the ESR might have been way too high by then
01:00 PM rue_mohr: I want to work on other things today
01:00 PM rue_mohr: or I'm gonna waste all my time indoors during the good weather
01:00 PM Tom_L: i want a nice lathe but that will never happen
01:01 PM rue_mohr: I got a tub of talc I bought yesterday (something like $43) so I want to do some casting today
01:01 PM rue_mohr: have to hurry, almost 12
02:43 PM rifraf: Tom_L did you get the lens?
02:45 PM rifraf: rue did you find a phone less than 10 years old?
03:07 PM Tom_L: i got the lens but the top wobbles way too much in it
03:07 PM Tom_L: tried rounding the tip some but it's still horrible
03:08 PM rue_mohr: rifraf, no, my buddies are all out of town
03:08 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, how about a hydraulically isolated point :]
03:09 PM rue_mohr: ok, well I got a bunch of garden stuff done, moved what I THINK are the last of the potatoes out of the strawberry bed
03:09 PM rue_mohr: turns out, strawberries LOVE pinecones!
03:09 PM rue_mohr: didn't nkow
03:10 PM rue_mohr: oh, casting
03:10 PM rue_mohr: 1pn already
03:10 PM rifraf: top, make the center og gravity big higher, by removing some material from the bottom
03:18 PM Tom_L: i will try beveling the edge some
03:18 PM Tom_L: depending on the lathe, it will either work or be a disaster
04:11 PM rifraf: bevel not needed, you want mass to stay on the outside of top

04:15 PM rifraf: woops, sorry
05:52 PM Tom_L: so how exactly should i modify my top so it will stay in the ring
05:52 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rifraf/Brass_top1.jpg
05:52 PM Tom_L: the tip is rounded some now
05:53 PM Tom_L: tore the lathe apart cleaned and rebuilt part of it with a spare part i found
05:53 PM rifraf: machine 1/8" off the bottom, leaving the tip of course
05:54 PM Tom_L: raise the CG then
05:55 PM rifraf: yeah thats what i said earlier
05:55 PM rifraf: will be easier to get spinning
05:56 PM Tom_L: don't shave the tip off to match the current distance between the mass and the tip?
05:56 PM Tom_L: make that distance longer
05:57 PM Tom_L: not sure the lathe will do it but i may try
05:57 PM rifraf: make it look like the shape in my app
05:57 PM rifraf: something like that is a good place to start
05:57 PM Tom_L: i'll be luck to remove any at all
05:58 PM rifraf: how did you make that in the first place?
05:59 PM Tom_L: my kid took some material out to the vo'tech and did it for me
06:00 PM Tom_L: i may send him out again to make another top and leave this one
06:00 PM Tom_L: i think i should have gotten a lens with a longer focal length so the cup wasn't so pronounced
06:48 PM rue_mohr: whats f-stop for a lens?
06:58 PM rifraf: lens is all good, why didn't yu get biggest focal length?
06:59 PM rifraf: and lazy for making you son make it, show him the image for the next one
07:00 PM rifraf: been squashin lotsa bugs here, still some to go
07:02 PM rifraf: want latest version anyone?
07:11 PM Tom_L: i asked about focal length and didn't get a good answer
07:12 PM Tom_L: and not lazy, i don't think my lathe will do the job anymore
07:13 PM Tom_L: i tore it all apart and cleaned it and replaced a part
07:13 PM Tom_L: i'll find out soon enough
07:14 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, f-stop is how much light gets thru
07:15 PM Tom_L: The “f” in f-stop stands for the focal length of the lens. While focal length itself refers to the field of view of a lens, f-stop is about how much light you allow to hit the sensor via the aperture opening.
07:22 PM rifraf84: focal distance is like a point drawn at the focal length from lens, and then an arc at the radius, so the larger the focal length, less of an arc in your glass
07:22 PM rifraf84: fstop is an aperture thing
07:23 PM rifraf84: smaller the F stop, larger the opejning in lens
07:23 PM rue_mohr: yea, I have a bunch of lenses and wanted to measure them
07:23 PM rifraf84: to let in more light
07:24 PM rifraf84: i could be wrong, havin anzac day beers
07:24 PM rifraf84: have been workin hard on app want update? gettin closee to a real thing now
07:30 PM rifraf: Tom_L no matter how dished it will work, i have tint 30mm OD lenses pretty dished that work fine, any glass is better than plasticised screen protector or plastic dish like spice jer lid
