12:29 AM aandrew: heh
01:10 AM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340209.jpg
01:10 AM rue_mohr: khgkhgkhgkhgkhgkhgkhgkhgkhg
01:10 AM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340210.jpg
01:10 AM rue_mohr: bloop
01:10 AM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340211.jpg
01:10 AM rue_mohr: wup
01:11 AM rue_mohr: it was close!!!! I want to have 2-3 muffins of extra material, that is basically 0
01:11 AM rue_mohr: the pot is leaking too
01:11 AM rue_mohr: slowly, but its a leak
01:11 AM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340220.jpg
01:11 AM rue_mohr: ding, parts
01:11 AM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340221.jpg
01:12 AM rue_mohr: bzzzt goes the cnc
01:12 AM rue_mohr: I didn't leave *quite* enough extra meat on some of the surfaces, so some of them are a bit out of spec
01:12 AM rue_mohr: I think I'll be ok
01:12 AM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340222.jpg
01:12 AM rue_mohr: they are to make these drivers, I etched pcb's a few weeks ago
01:25 AM rue_mohr: ok
01:25 AM rue_mohr: I need to
01:25 AM rue_mohr: ugh
01:26 AM rue_mohr: move position settings over a wireless link
01:26 AM rue_mohr: and I want to test this pwm idea
04:27 AM * rifraf37 wonders if rues phone is still an ericson flip from '95
04:30 AM Tom_L: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/t3IAAOSwxQRgXvYg/s-l960.webp
07:50 AM Tom_L: yes
11:46 AM rue_mohr: is it new enough to give his app a try?
11:52 AM Tom_L: who?
11:52 AM Tom_L: mine is
11:52 AM Tom_L: it's the newest one you can get
11:52 AM Tom_L: afik
11:56 AM Tom_L: aren't they all written in java?
11:57 AM Tom_L: their install is just like a .deb for linux only with a different file extension
12:04 PM Tom_L: .apk Android Package Kit
12:14 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: that's a beefy heat sink
12:15 PM rue_mohr: for driving a disability chair on 4 fets?
12:15 PM rue_mohr: which I'm not sure is a good idea
12:15 PM rue_mohr: I think I should have at least 2 paralleled up
12:17 PM Tom_L: rc car controls stack 6-8 of them don't they?
12:17 PM Tom_L: get one from musk
12:17 PM rue_mohr: heh
12:18 PM Tom_L: i watched like a 2yr yt on his law suit for the battery tech on the way home
12:18 PM Tom_L: not sure how much of it was true
12:19 PM Tom_L: but he did win
12:20 PM Tom_L: the company that tried to steal his tech, was fined and issued a 5 year development ban on battery tech
12:21 PM Tom_L: then musk hired the judge for legal council since she had a background in the tech as well
12:21 PM Tom_L: after she retired as judge
12:21 PM Tom_L: or so the story went
12:23 PM Tom_L: https://qz.com/tesla-ev-battery-tech-matthews-stole-trade-secrets-suit-1851544477
12:23 PM aandrew: well it's a big chunk of aluminum, but not much in the way of dissipation so once the heatsink gets hot it's going to be a lot less effective
12:24 PM Tom_L: drill some holes in the back side
12:24 PM Tom_L: or slot it
12:26 PM aandrew: yeah I was thinking slotting or using an angled tip to create V kind of grooves where the points are close together: VVVVVVV kind of thing
12:27 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, what android app?
12:27 PM aandrew: IIRC the "ideal" fin shape is an exponential curve but tha'ts very hard to extrude or mill but the idea is lots of surface area and thin metal so it radiates
12:28 PM Tom_L: drill a hole horizontal, stuff a copper tube thru it and pump water thru it
12:29 PM Tom_L: i did that to my sherline spindle motor before i wapped it out for a 1.2kw bldc
12:32 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/spindle_cooler/Cooler2.jpg
12:32 PM Tom_L: that actually worked quite well
12:33 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/spindle_cooler/Cooler5.jpg
12:33 PM Tom_L: pumped ice water thru it
12:34 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/spindle_cooler/Mill3.jpg
12:34 PM Tom_L: the motor was just too underpowered for my liking
12:47 PM aandrew: oh nice
12:52 PM rue_mohr: the heatsink is mostly just mechanical, the idea is that you join that to a proper heatsink and its just conducting
12:52 PM rue_mohr: its not meant to be highly dissipative
12:58 PM aandrew: oh I see
01:00 PM rue_mohr: I was looking at the various fets, and really, I think irfz44 is good enough, there's not a lot of gain/$ once you apply the practical limitations
01:01 PM rue_mohr: suffer a bit of a high gate capacitance
01:02 PM Tom_L: aandrew, you could use a largeish thread mill to cut the VVV
01:03 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/thread_mills/Thread_mill2.jpg
01:03 PM Tom_L: wouldn't be super deep but would give more surface area
01:03 PM rue_mohr: no no, the top of the T is meant to be bolted to one of the CPU heatsinks in the large box :]
01:03 PM rue_mohr: its just an attachment flange
01:03 PM Tom_L: helluva flange
01:04 PM Tom_L: i'd go with the water cooling personally
01:04 PM rue_mohr: yep, I wanted to be able to thread into it, but it didn't end up with the thickness where I wanted it
01:04 PM rue_mohr: yea, I should get into that
01:04 PM Tom_L: you could likely mold the copper tube when you pour it
01:05 PM Tom_L: then attach something to the ends
01:05 PM Tom_L: pump liquid nitrogen thru the tubes
02:05 PM rue_mohr: ooo
02:05 PM rue_mohr: the aluminum eats the copper, but maybe not too much in a short time like that
02:43 PM rue_mohr: that set of castings I did, I threw in a rather large brass fitting and it ate it all
02:48 PM Tom_L: ate or mixed?
02:48 PM Tom_L: careful, you might create a super alloy :)
02:49 PM Tom_L: you should also check to see if you should be breathing any of this stuff
02:50 PM rue_mohr: apparently aluminum and brass are a super popular alloy for marine
02:50 PM rue_mohr: oh yea, its all outside
02:50 PM rue_mohr: I dont lean over the smelter and inhale deeply
02:50 PM rue_mohr: ok, gonna oil change the truck
02:50 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna do it
02:50 PM rue_mohr: you cant stop me
02:50 PM rue_mohr: I could
02:51 PM Tom_L: i'm not gonna try
02:51 PM rue_mohr: cause its cold out
02:51 PM rue_mohr: you cold atleast try
02:51 PM Tom_L: i did mine before i left
02:51 PM rue_mohr: mmmm
02:51 PM rue_mohr: find the things...
02:51 PM Tom_L: do the filter too?
02:51 PM Tom_L: where do you put the used oil?
04:33 PM rue_mohr: in a container
04:33 PM rue_mohr: I forget what I do with the containers
04:34 PM rue_mohr: sometimes I take a few to the used oil place
04:34 PM rue_mohr: ok
04:34 PM rue_mohr: got the oil and filter changed
04:34 PM rue_mohr: I'll save the grease and tire changes for later
04:35 PM rue_mohr: I had to go buy grease, the gun was out
04:35 PM rue_mohr: and I have other things I want to get done today
04:36 PM rue_mohr: so, when I did those heatsinks
04:36 PM rue_mohr: I badly messed up lining up my zero
04:36 PM rue_mohr: I stepped the program and adjusted as it went
04:36 PM rue_mohr: for the first two sides, then I let it run
04:36 PM rue_mohr: but I'm confused cause I was way off
04:36 PM rue_mohr: like 20mm
04:49 PM rifraf: Tom_L cool, would you like to test an app for me
04:54 PM Tom_L: what does it do?
04:55 PM Tom_L: mine my data :D
04:55 PM rifraf: show spinning top details, measures rpm etc
04:55 PM rifraf: only touches your accelerometer, nothing else
04:56 PM Tom_L: you got an apk file?
04:57 PM Tom_L: i have a spare android i can try it on
04:59 PM rifraf: https://desire3d.com/images/public/com.example.vibesensing.apk
05:00 PM rifraf: i am heading off to work now, if that worttks can give your newer version later, lets see if it even loads first
05:00 PM Tom_L: you got 10 min?
05:01 PM rifraf: yepo almost
05:01 PM rifraf: you will need something to spin, and something to spin on, a tiny saucer etc, so it does not fall off the glass
05:01 PM Tom_L: can't help with that
05:01 PM rifraf: and a sponge to sit your phone on, to isolate it from other vabrations
05:01 PM Tom_L: maybe a coin
05:02 PM rifraf: yes you can, look around, ask the wife
05:03 PM rifraf: hard to spin coin on phne, just tried
05:03 PM rifraf: make one with lathe
05:04 PM Tom_L: ok i got it in the phone, forgot the permission to install a .apk
05:04 PM rifraf: you might need to allow unsigned apps or something
05:05 PM rifraf: or use an apk installer
05:05 PM Tom_L: i forgot where that was in settings
05:05 PM Tom_L: i did it on the S25
05:05 PM Tom_L: but forgot where it was
05:05 PM rifraf: You have to enable the install of unsigned application in the settings:
05:05 PM rifraf: Settings -> Application -> Unknown sources (Allow installation of non-Market applications)
05:06 PM Tom_L: the 21 is a little different i think
05:06 PM rifraf: hrm, i have to run now, i hope it works, will try put on the play store but i need testers first i think
05:07 PM rifraf: good luck, is actually pretty cool when you get it working
05:07 PM Tom_L: ok
05:08 PM Tom_L: iirc i just clicked on the file before then it asked me
05:08 PM Tom_L: installing
05:09 PM Tom_L: the package appears to be invalid
05:09 PM Tom_L: .... back to work
05:09 PM Tom_L: figure that out and i'll try again
05:10 PM rue_shop4: Tom_L, your whole trip isn't done is it?
05:10 PM Tom_L: i'm home
05:12 PM Tom_L: rifraf, 'App not installing as a package. appears to be invalid.
07:14 PM aandrew: it's interesting... the computer is hosed, the usb hub is hosed, but the very expensive webcam on another usb port on the same internal hub on the motherboard appears to be unharmed
07:57 PM rue_mohr: even if you strip down to the motherboard with a new supply its dead?
07:57 PM rue_mohr: no beep?
08:00 PM Tom_L: see rue_mohr you didn't even miss me this time :)
08:10 PM rue_mohr: that wasn't long
08:10 PM rue_mohr: did you have any fun?
08:17 PM aandrew: I haven't got that far yet, that's for tomorrow I think
08:17 PM aandrew: zero power, no ethernet LEDs (it does WoL), nada
08:25 PM rue_shop4: did you try a different power supply?
08:26 PM rue_shop4: yay, my joystick positions transfer
08:26 PM rue_shop4: now I need to add in deadzone, zero and scale
08:48 PM aandrew: haven't looked at all yet
08:59 PM rue_mohr: ok! I got Smoking Progress new code that reads the joystick
08:59 PM rue_mohr: that state machine I wrote a few days ago works great
09:00 PM rue_mohr: I have to recharge the batteries, and try some new code
09:01 PM rue_mohr: it should run the motors, but I'm not sure on the scaling that I need
09:01 PM rue_mohr: oh, I forgot the offset on one side
09:03 PM rue_shop4: ok, got it
09:03 PM Tom_L: 10 days
09:03 PM rue_shop4: it would be good if I did the speed tracking thing between the motors
09:03 PM rue_shop4: was it?
09:03 PM rue_shop4: it just flew by
09:04 PM Tom_L: i think so
09:04 PM rue_shop4: how was hondourus?
09:04 PM Tom_L: hot
09:04 PM rue_shop4: hah
09:04 PM Tom_L: actually it was real nice weather
09:04 PM Tom_L: we went to an island just off the coast
09:04 PM rue_shop4: cabin in the woods?
09:05 PM rue_shop4: nice and quiet?
09:06 PM rue_shop4: no 60Hz hum
09:09 PM Tom_L: was relaxing for sure
09:10 PM aandrew: https://hoaxes.org/archive/permalink/the_caltech_sweepstakes_caper
09:10 PM aandrew: heh
09:22 PM rue_shop4: heh
09:22 PM rue_shop4: well the weekend is basically
09:22 PM rue_shop4: well the weekend is basically over
09:23 PM rue_shop4: have some pasta cooking for supper
09:23 PM rue_shop4: the robot is charging
09:23 PM rue_shop4: <and balancing>
09:24 PM rue_shop4: I could make a board for the remote
09:25 PM rue_shop4: I will need something to carry the ch32 and esp8266 (provide 3V)
11:48 PM rue_mohr: hmm, I suppose a 1-way text scroll system never needs to actually save the first line eh?
11:51 PM rue_mohr: huh
