12:42 AM aandrew: yeah both go to the same sales site
06:04 AM polprog: how do you guys insulate the homes in north america?
07:38 AM Tom_L: most of them around here are
07:47 AM polprog: yeah, but how do you do that
07:47 AM polprog: the ones in CA ive seen are all from wood, do you put anything in the walls?
07:48 AM Tom_L: depends
07:48 AM Tom_L: mine was an old house so i blew it in the walls
07:48 AM polprog: some ive seen have air there
07:48 AM Tom_L: roll is used on new construction
07:49 AM Tom_L: and celing
07:49 AM Tom_L: Ca probably doesn't need any
07:49 AM polprog: mineral wool?
07:49 AM Tom_L: spun glass? i dunno
07:50 AM polprog: ah that
07:50 AM Tom_L: https://magnusonlumber.com/products/owens-corning-r-13-ecotouch%C2%AE-pink%C2%AE-fiberglas%E2%84%A2-insulation-with-purefiber%C2%AE-technology-15-in-x-32-ft-40-sq-ft?gQT=1
07:51 AM polprog: oh yeah, we have that too
07:52 AM Tom_L: https://www.thespruce.com/cellulose-insulation-basics-1821904
07:52 AM Tom_L: blown insulation
07:54 AM polprog: thats something new
07:54 AM Tom_L: that's something very old
07:54 AM polprog: i mean, new for me
07:54 AM Tom_L: ok
07:54 AM polprog: we usually use foam
07:54 AM Tom_L: then they also use spray foam
07:55 AM Tom_L: on new construction
07:57 AM Tom_L: they don't use mineral wool much anymore
07:57 AM Tom_L: i've seen some on very old houses
07:58 AM Tom_L: googled.. maybe they still use it
07:59 AM Tom_L: it's denser than fiberglass insul
08:00 AM rue_mohr: polprog, yes, we insulate them :]
08:01 AM rue_mohr: insulation types are fiberglass wool, spray foam, ridgid foam sheets, and blown fiber.
08:02 AM rue_mohr: mineral wool is usually used for fire-resistant and sound proofing insulation.
08:03 AM rue_mohr: polprog, are you back from your US trip?
08:06 AM polprog: i am
08:06 AM polprog: i was curious about the insulation because the motel we stayed in at SF was quite cold
08:07 AM polprog: and we talked with some people here (not the motel staff) and apparently the way californians deal with the cold is "just get 3 blankets and tuck in"
08:13 AM Tom_L: they don't get as severe weather there as in the midwest
08:19 AM rue_mohr: Tom_L, your country is screwed.
08:19 AM rue_mohr: more so than I thought it could be
12:05 PM aandrew: polprog: as someone currently in california, that seems to ore or less be it
02:20 PM polprog: heh
02:20 PM polprog: aandrew: where in CA are you around?
03:17 PM Tom_L: https://digilent.com/shop/analog-discovery-3/
03:36 PM aandrew: I'm down in Irvine, about an hour from LAX
03:36 PM aandrew: also about an hour from San Diego
03:50 PM polprog: I see
06:55 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, $400, out of the ballpark
06:57 PM Tom_L: yeah but i thought it was cool
06:57 PM rue_mohr: it is!
06:58 PM Tom_L: somebody will clone it soon
06:58 PM rue_mohr: by then, someone else will have a 100% import tarrif on it
06:58 PM Tom_L: not on your side of the line
06:59 PM rue_mohr: nope
06:59 PM rue_mohr: but isn't that made in the usa?
06:59 PM rue_mohr: oh, or .. where is that made?
06:59 PM Tom_L: not sure... probably
06:59 PM rue_mohr: I think were going to halt all exports to the usa
07:00 PM rue_mohr: probably starting with oil..
07:00 PM rue_mohr: we need to build a refinery :/
07:01 PM rue_mohr: ok, so, tonight
07:01 PM rue_mohr: I need to test-fit a fuse
07:01 PM rue_mohr: I need to build a esp-01 programmer
07:02 PM Tom_L: and eat
07:02 PM rue_mohr: burn the food, yes
07:02 PM rue_mohr: so, someone suggested making a list of all the food supplies in the house and asking an ai what to cook with it all
07:03 PM Tom_L: throw cat food in the mix and see if it can distinguish
07:04 PM aandrew: https://www.reuters.com/world/trump-set-impose-tariffs-mexico-canada-starting-march-1-sources-say-2025-01-31/
07:05 PM aandrew: wow. such unexpected. much surprise. who could have predicted.
07:07 PM rue_mohr: mar 1 or feb 1?
07:07 PM rue_mohr: huh
07:08 PM aandrew: march 1 now
07:09 PM rifraf: i heard it was tomorrow
07:09 PM rifraf: at the press conference
07:09 PM rue_mohr: In 2023, Canada exported approximately 4 million barrels of crude oil per day, with about 97% of these exports—roughly 3.88 million barrels per day—going to the United States.
07:09 PM rue_mohr: CER-REC.GC.CA
07:09 PM rue_mohr: This volume accounted for 24% of U.S. refinery throughput that year.
07:09 PM rifraf: 25%
07:09 PM rue_mohr: ""
07:10 PM rue_mohr: so, I guess, that gas is going to get a LOT cheaper here
07:10 PM rifraf: because you send too much fentanil to the usa
07:10 PM rue_mohr: and that would put gas prices up a bunch in the states
07:10 PM rue_mohr: sure, whatever
07:10 PM rue_mohr: their gonna want more the longer Trump is in power
07:11 PM rifraf: yep he is one funny guy
07:11 PM rue_mohr: gonna kill his country
07:11 PM rifraf: at least he can speak though, that last one was a real joke
07:12 PM rue_mohr: I think musk and zuckerberg are being threatened by trump
07:12 PM rue_mohr: I think the hitler thing was an attempt at a message
07:12 PM rifraf: and your country seems to be in tatters as well
07:12 PM rue_mohr: cause our corrupt leader quit?
07:13 PM rifraf: yep, so i heard
07:13 PM rue_mohr: he waited till after he's supposed to be granted a ful pension
07:13 PM rue_mohr: we need to kill him, save the money
07:13 PM rue_mohr: we are worried because there are a few bad jokers in line
07:13 PM rue_mohr: might need to buy a few bullets
07:14 PM rifraf: heh, yep its all been planned already, not much we can do
07:14 PM rue_mohr: rifraf, whats going on politically in oz?
07:14 PM rue_mohr: hows your leader doing?
07:14 PM rifraf: bo idea rue, never listen to news
07:14 PM rifraf: no*
07:14 PM rue_mohr: I dont either, but its saturating everything over here
07:15 PM Tom_L: better off that way
07:15 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if trump threatened trudu as well
07:15 PM rifraf: i read some of the world news online but we are rarely included
07:15 PM rue_mohr: rifraf, do you do a prime-minister or a president?
07:15 PM rifraf: prime minister
07:15 PM rifraf: albo i think it is
07:15 PM rue_mohr: k, whats his name today?
07:15 PM rue_mohr: k
07:17 PM rue_mohr: Anthony Albanese
07:17 PM rifraf: indeed
07:18 PM rifraf: no one calls him that here
07:18 PM rifraf: got first part of drawtube machined, lathe doin well
07:19 PM rue_mohr: nice
07:19 PM rifraf: well nice m35 x 1.5 thread
07:19 PM rue_mohr: did the adapter arrive?
07:19 PM Tom_L: single point?
07:19 PM rifraf: 75mm long, Tom_L i did find a couple of large washers, the belleville ones
07:20 PM rifraf: yeah single point threading on lathe
07:20 PM rifraf: 75mm long thread and so smooth all the way
07:20 PM rifraf: rue_mohr which adaptor?
07:21 PM rifraf: got lotsa new parts
07:21 PM rue_mohr: the big one?
07:21 PM rifraf: and been able to use a few old parts already here which is even better
07:21 PM rifraf: by changing form M36 to M35
07:22 PM rifraf: machining the slip ring to drive the chuck out today
07:24 PM rifraf: i got some of the MT2 collets, they lock very well without much forse but wrong thread on draw tube
07:24 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:24 PM rifraf: 3/8" and planned on them being M10 :/
07:25 PM rifraf: is ok, workin on the bigger unit as well
07:25 PM rifraf: hey how about instead of bar feer from rear
07:25 PM rifraf: bar puller from front, just by adding a gripper to the already ther X axis
07:26 PM Tom_L: i've seen both ways
07:26 PM rifraf: no waste of stock, because feeding from back leaves 200mm + of waste that cannot be fed
07:26 PM rifraf: anf don't have to change any of current plans
07:26 PM Tom_L: yeah i used to run 12' bars and we'd always have ~8" left
07:27 PM rifraf: yeah
07:27 PM Tom_L: just the right size to fit in a lunch pail :)
07:28 PM rifraf: and i cannot really have 3000mm lengths spinning out the back
07:28 PM Tom_L: make a tube stand to hold em
07:28 PM rifraf: so would like to be able to support like 1200mm stock and not waste much
07:28 PM rifraf: yeah have a few stabiliser ideas to build off the back of the chuck release
07:29 PM Tom_L: once in a while they would vibrate back and you'd get a whipping bar but by that point they were alot shorter
07:30 PM rifraf: interesting
07:30 PM Tom_L: most of what i ran was bigger stock
07:31 PM Tom_L: the holding tubes slid back and forth so you could load the material with the feed tubes on a new bar
07:31 PM rifraf: picked up some nice stock yesterday, bronze and brass, and steel hollow bar
07:32 PM Tom_L: once in a while i see some brass bar at the surplus but it goes quick
07:32 PM rifraf: have a good supplier here, but the drive to the other side of brisbane sucked. not cheap at all though
07:33 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/local_stock/stock_index.php
07:33 PM Tom_L: some of the surplus stock
07:33 PM Tom_L: mostly aluminum
07:34 PM rifraf: pretty good supplys
07:40 PM rue_mohr: - check fuse
07:40 PM rue_mohr: - migrate email to aws
08:52 PM rue_mohr: NRN200V is the right fuse
08:53 PM rue_mohr: the 600V fuses must be longer than the 250V fuses, which makes sense, so you cant fit a 250 into 600V gear
09:09 PM rue_mohr: ugh, email
