01:39 AM rifraf: rue_mohr and Tom_L, are you guys around and want to throw some ideas around about auto chucks and feeders?
01:55 AM * rifraf sees its a bit late up, will make a video of where i am at anyway in a bit
02:16 AM rifraf: ok cool, getting my youtube studio setup, not really, just looking for enough boxes to support the phone camera
02:40 AM rifraf: you work a 4 day week?
02:42 AM rue_mohr: heh
02:43 AM rue_mohr: I have a lot of banked time and I'm taking mon/tues off to get my septic tank services
02:43 AM rue_mohr: d
02:43 AM rue_mohr: rifraf, are you on any social media sites?
02:47 AM rifraf: no but i must start, not selling any tops :(
02:47 AM rifraf: uploading video now, will be good to fall asleep to for you
02:47 AM rue_mohr: well, bluesky if your trying to sell
02:47 AM rue_mohr: mastadon if your ok to be patient and want to meet cool people
02:48 AM rifraf: gotta learn some editing and make spinning top vids, have lots of ideas, so this is a good start
02:48 AM rifraf: cheers, will look at both
02:48 AM rue_mohr: bluesky is a type of twitter
02:48 AM rue_mohr: mastadon is a network of nodes run by regular people and all interlinked
02:49 AM rue_mohr: 'fediverse'
02:49 AM rifraf: hrm ok, will look into them
03:09 AM rifraf: hrm, wonder what my last msg was? typing away and realised i was disconnected
03:09 AM rue_mohr: <rifraf> hrm ok, will look into them
03:09 AM rifraf: who, you missed alot, lol
03:09 AM rifraf: wow even
03:10 AM rifraf: managed to get a fair way with this bar feeder in a day, so good to have bits of old projects laying around and findable
03:10 AM rifraf: cannot do it yet on real machine cause i didn't put mt taper in headstock, but will likely rebuild the headstock to be bigger, and should be able to feed 10mm bar stock
03:11 AM rifraf: loosening the collet chuck seems to be the biggest challenge so focused on that more for now, the bar feeding can be done with a pneumatic gripper and cylinder fairly easy.
03:11 AM rue_mohr: thats what the spring washers are for
03:11 AM rue_mohr: er, they do the tightening
03:11 AM rue_mohr: pneumatic does the loostening
03:12 AM rifraf: yep, on order, i have similar ones here but they are a more fancy serating washer
03:12 AM rifraf: nord or something
03:12 AM rifraf: yes rue, it will, this video is just a few min away from uploading, good old aussie internet
03:13 AM rue_mohr: hmm
03:13 AM rifraf: am hoping to kust use a 100mm x 20mm cylider i have here already, got 2 if i need to use side by side, but should not need it,
03:13 AM rue_mohr: if I use an esp8266 for a pump alternation controller, I can have it provide a webpage with stats
03:14 AM rue_mohr: pneumatic cylinder are easy to make
03:14 AM rue_mohr: for short stroke anyhow
03:14 AM rue_mohr: just a diaphram
03:15 AM rifraf: yep though aliexpress makes it even easier, and the price is right on common ones, like SMC clones
03:15 AM rifraf: will get the pneumatics out in a while, gotta get these mechanicals right
03:16 AM rifraf: hollow drawbar is neat so far, but i have no clue what i am doing, is just an idea, as usual
03:19 AM rue_mohr: :)
03:19 AM rue_mohr: sadly I'v not been doing much lately
03:19 AM rue_mohr: mental issues, I'm not sure what yet
03:20 AM rue_mohr: I have lots of toys, cant get myself to pick any of them up
03:20 AM rifraf: opposite here, has been awesome couple of months getting projects done and even upgraded
03:20 AM rue_mohr: I think I'm lonely, I dont know why, I never had anyone to play along with before
03:20 AM rifraf: your cnc doesn't inspire you?
03:20 AM rue_mohr: no
03:20 AM rue_mohr: I have 3 cnc eh?
03:20 AM rue_mohr: my old old one
03:21 AM rue_mohr: a router one I did
03:21 AM rifraf: i know what you mean, well you know me, just have to stay in touch more
03:21 AM rue_mohr: and the fancy one
03:21 AM rifraf: yeah i miss my big router
03:21 AM rue_mohr: I'm building the big one
03:21 AM rue_mohr: 1.2x2.4m
03:21 AM rifraf: but have the spindle mounted to this one now
03:21 AM rue_mohr: not worked on it in a while
03:21 AM rifraf: i had 3000x1500
03:21 AM rue_mohr: I need to mount the Y drive belt tensioner next
03:21 AM rifraf: still have all the rails and main parts to sell on
03:22 AM rifraf: too nig to make as i will never have a house
03:22 AM rifraf: or shed big enough
03:22 AM rue_mohr: I did my big one inclined
03:22 AM rifraf: omg this upload taking forever, doing cvhecking now
03:22 AM rue_mohr: it barely takes up 1mx3m
03:22 AM rifraf: rue you make much content? like videos?
03:22 AM rue_mohr: yea
03:22 AM rue_mohr: its severly down the last 2 years tho
03:22 AM rifraf: ah yes i remember the inclined one
03:23 AM rue_mohr: camera pics went from just under 4000/year to under 3000/year
03:23 AM rue_mohr: or, how did that ho
03:23 AM rue_mohr: go
03:23 AM rue_mohr: it dropped by like 25%
03:24 AM rue_mohr: I got on social media cause IRC was dead and I wanted to find people
03:24 AM rue_mohr: the same misison I started in like 2002
03:24 AM rue_mohr: the same mission that had me come over there :]
03:25 AM rue_mohr: thanks by the way, I'd really wanted to visit Oz too
03:25 AM rifraf: yep i remember you got pretty big last year or so
03:25 AM rue_mohr: pff
03:25 AM rue_mohr: twitter is fake numbers
03:25 AM rifraf: was good to have rue, i still don't get many visitors either rue
03:25 AM rue_mohr: today says I got 11.2k followers
03:25 AM rifraf: thats alot
03:25 AM rue_mohr: bots
03:26 AM rifraf: i have like 200
03:26 AM rue_mohr: bluesky says I got 1.2k
03:26 AM rue_mohr: mastadon is 398
03:26 AM rifraf: ok rue, vid time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9T8L9pdzVs
03:26 AM rifraf: i havn't watch yet so better do as well in case i need to delete
03:28 AM rue_mohr: haha you got it stuck
03:28 AM rifraf: heh
03:29 AM rifraf: yeah fits well
03:29 AM rue_mohr: you made the taper! nice
03:29 AM rifraf: i make everything now
03:29 AM rifraf: within reason
03:29 AM rue_mohr: its not your motto tho :]
03:32 AM rue_mohr: so, can you get collets that fit that taper?
03:32 AM rifraf: yep
03:32 AM rifraf: a few on the way
03:32 AM rue_mohr: huh
03:32 AM rifraf: i linked them yesterday
03:32 AM rue_mohr: k
03:32 AM rifraf: will find soon, checking out my funny video, lol
03:33 AM rue_mohr: seems fine so far
03:33 AM rue_mohr: you can have the machine use a bit as the stop
03:35 AM rue_mohr: whats the taper on the head of my lathe....
03:35 AM rue_mohr: mt4?
03:35 AM rifraf: mine is mt3 on lathe
03:35 AM rifraf: mt4 is what i want to make this for
03:35 AM rue_mohr: the headstock on my lathe is a pretty big one
03:36 AM rifraf: so sleep on it rue, am sure you will come up with something, i have some ideas obviously but want some cnc people input too
03:36 AM rue_mohr: ~$25, not ba
03:36 AM rue_mohr: d
03:36 AM rifraf: yep would be mt4 i'd say, which means you are ready for same design
03:37 AM rue_mohr: I'd probably start 6mm as I need 1/4"x15mm pins for the sprayers
03:37 AM rifraf: rue_mohr https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002108348638.html
03:37 AM rue_mohr: I'd have to cnc my lathe
03:37 AM rifraf: thats what i am waiting for
03:37 AM rue_mohr: which shouldn't be too bad
03:37 AM rifraf: rue we can
03:38 AM rue_mohr: heh, the question never was - can we -
03:38 AM rifraf: regardless, you could have 2 or 3 buttons to release and feed bar without cnc
03:38 AM rue_mohr: yep
03:38 AM rifraf: and obviously you can use an arduino to make it automatic
03:39 AM rifraf: you see the spring collets?
03:39 AM rue_mohr: its 1:30am
03:39 AM rue_mohr: spring collets?
03:39 AM rue_mohr: no
03:39 AM rifraf: yep i know, only 7.30pm here
03:40 AM rifraf: but i get up at 3
03:40 AM rue_mohr: :]
03:40 AM rifraf: so almost bedtime
03:40 AM rifraf: \https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002108348638.html
03:40 AM rue_mohr: its nice to have someone to talk to in my natural time zone
03:40 AM rifraf: cool
03:41 AM rue_mohr: yea I saw that link
03:41 AM rifraf: ok
03:41 AM rue_mohr: I'll check the taper on my lathe and ponder
03:41 AM rifraf: so thats the things i wanna was with this bar feeder thingo
03:41 AM rue_mohr: I can do a fair bit on my cnc
03:41 AM rue_mohr: huh, I wonder
03:41 AM rifraf: parts will be so much better centered, many benefits from a 3 jaw chuck
03:41 AM rue_mohr: ....
03:42 AM rue_mohr: maybe I should put this on the spindle of the cnc
03:42 AM rue_mohr: cnc is fun cause you can set up a number of tools across the table
03:42 AM rue_mohr: 'workstations'
03:42 AM rifraf: rue you can use a milling tool holder too in that mt4 taper you have
03:42 AM rifraf: yes i am working on ways to hold more tools
03:43 AM rue_mohr: I'll check the throat size of the cnc spindle
03:43 AM rue_mohr: I think its pretty small tho
03:43 AM rifraf: looking forward to having dual tool posts, i bet they will fight over each other though
03:43 AM rifraf: mine is 19mm thats small
03:43 AM rifraf: on the CNC just 16mm
03:43 AM rifraf: but will just make a larger one to use MT4 :)
03:44 AM rue_mohr: I lost my book with all the notes for my cnc machine
03:44 AM rifraf: well just make a new one\
03:44 AM rue_mohr: I'v lost all my marked up diagrams, schematics, and everything
03:44 AM rifraf: things have changed alot
03:44 AM rue_mohr: trying to not think about it cause its really upsetting
03:44 AM rifraf: being able to afford and use sc servo is awesome
03:44 AM rue_mohr: I dont know if someone got in my shop and did someting with it
03:45 AM rue_mohr: oh, I got a 240V ac servo
03:45 AM rue_mohr: from the medical treadmill
03:45 AM rifraf: have you seen them on aliexpress yet?
03:45 AM rue_mohr: I'v looked at em
03:45 AM rue_mohr: $$$
03:45 AM rifraf: if not should be ok, you still have it all in your head
03:45 AM rue_mohr: need that book
03:46 AM rue_mohr: I reverse engineered and rewired the whole machine
03:46 AM rifraf: yep it was about $259 AUD for my servo delivered with controller,or a little more
03:46 AM rue_mohr: did a LOT of research on WTF they used in it
03:46 AM rifraf: worth every damb cent
03:46 AM rifraf: trying to justify one for other axis but no need yet
03:46 AM rue_mohr: I still have a chemical analyzer from work I need to strip down too
03:47 AM rue_mohr: if anything, I should really be working on the big cnc
03:47 AM rue_mohr: all the machines I have are a BIT too small for things I keep comming up with
03:47 AM rue_mohr: but I'm not really doing much right now
03:48 AM rue_mohr: need sleep, gnight
03:49 AM rifraf: nite rue
03:49 AM rifraf: dream of cool mechanisms to unlock draw bar
03:49 AM rifraf: need to keep cylinders inline, a bit annoying, but can be done
06:23 PM * polprog is alive
06:23 PM polprog: when im back home i need to make up a probing rig
06:23 PM polprog: They sell these rigs for car electronics work
06:24 PM polprog: it's a set of long needle probes (around 4-5" long) and a plate of plexiglass with holes drilled in a grid
06:25 PM polprog: the plate is mounted in a holder a few inches above the pcb and you use the holes to hold the needle probes to testpoints on the PCB
06:25 PM rue_mohr: hey
06:25 PM polprog: the kits are very expensive, but i reckon i could buy a pre-cut plexi plate and drill it myself
06:25 PM polprog: hi rue
06:25 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1330678.jpg
06:25 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1330679.jpg
06:26 PM rue_mohr: I had the idea like 2 weeks ago
06:26 PM rue_mohr: I can use it for drills, taps, and even screwdriver bits
06:26 PM polprog: thats a crill chuck in a screwdriver handle?
06:26 PM polprog: drill*
06:26 PM polprog: neat
06:26 PM rue_mohr: yea, the build didn't go awesome
06:26 PM rue_mohr: but its close
06:27 PM polprog: i have a screwdriver that takes large hex bits, i sometimes use it with a hole cutter
06:27 PM polprog: mine has a ratchet and that probably does not take the drill head force too well
06:27 PM rue_mohr: :]
06:28 PM polprog: what's that red thing mounted in the chuck?
06:28 PM rue_mohr: a scrwdriver bit
06:28 PM polprog: ive never seen one like that
06:29 PM rue_mohr: those are standard hex bits...
06:29 PM rue_mohr: for multidrivers
06:35 PM polprog: doesnt tell me much
06:35 PM polprog: oh wait
06:35 PM polprog: i think i get it
06:35 PM polprog: it's a square plug at the end?
06:36 PM rue_mohr: "robertson" square hole, we use them in canada
06:36 PM polprog: right
06:36 PM rue_mohr: they dont kick out and stay on the driver nicely
06:37 PM polprog: we use allen screws for this reason
06:37 PM polprog: hex
06:37 PM rue_mohr: yup
06:46 PM polprog: I am in Dallas now
06:50 PM polprog: rue_mohr: how did you remove the screwdriver blade from the handle?
06:54 PM rue_shop2: it was a normal screwdriver, I cut the end off and mounted the chuck to it
06:54 PM rue_shop2: the shaft is the orig
07:02 PM polprog: ahh
07:25 PM Tom_L: made a chuck handle ehh
07:26 PM Tom_L: polprog, you're a long way from home
07:26 PM polprog: true
07:28 PM Tom_L: rue_shop2, you need a debur bit for that now
07:30 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/cutters/Tool_Holder1.jpg
07:30 PM Tom_L: like my black one has
07:31 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, yea!
07:32 PM rue_mohr: polprog, so hows the (hotel?)
07:32 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-93-Adjustable-Vise/dp/B000COYPG4?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&gQT=1
07:32 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, yea the chuck on what you have there is a more reasonable size
07:32 PM rue_mohr: I didn't look thru what I had, there was one sitting on top of the junk on the bench and thats what I used
07:32 PM Tom_L: i guess they're called pin vises
07:33 PM rue_mohr: all the ones I found online were small and sad
07:33 PM Tom_L: mine is general like the link
07:34 PM Tom_L: https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/06491997?gQT=1
07:34 PM Tom_L: better description
07:34 PM rue_mohr: I think mine is still larger
07:35 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-90-Vise-Double/dp/B000KL3WSQ?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&gQT=1
07:35 PM Tom_L: had one of those but i wore it out
07:35 PM Tom_L: each end has 2 collets
07:36 PM rue_mohr: huh
07:36 PM Tom_L: you flip them around for sizes
07:36 PM Tom_L: i've had a couple of those and wore em out
07:37 PM rue_mohr: I'll play with this, see how it works
07:37 PM Tom_L: also had a single ended one with a 'rotary' end on the far end for your palm
07:37 PM rue_mohr: might want one of the smaller ones like online
07:37 PM Tom_L: like that screwdriver set aandrew posted
07:38 PM Tom_L: only for bits
07:38 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Swivel-Head-Drill-Reversible-Collets/dp/B09VK5CMR8/132-4619461-5669717?pd_rd_w=d6ru1&content-id=amzn1.sym.751acc83-5c05-42d0-a15e-303622651e1e&pf_rd_p=751acc83-5c05-42d0-a15e-303622651e1e&pf_rd_r=XRM4YF4Z679VQRVPYRV9&pd_rd_wg=ZoOjJ&pd_rd_r=e4b5178c-47dc-4781-a340-b560ac9fe5d6&pd_rd_i=B09VK5CMR8&psc=1
07:38 PM rue_mohr: I need to wake up a bit early tommorow, have a tech coming to check over my septic lift pump
07:38 PM Tom_L: only that one unscrews and has a spare bit in the top
07:39 PM Tom_L: i had to get a new one of those recently
07:39 PM Tom_L: 2" zoller?
07:39 PM rue_mohr: ?
07:39 PM Tom_L: lift pump
07:39 PM rue_mohr: oh god I dont know what they put in there
07:40 PM rue_mohr: I need to make an alternating relay and put a second one in there
07:40 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Zoeller-267-0001-Waste-Mate-Sewage-Horsepower/dp/B003Y5F7J2?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&gQT=1
07:40 PM Tom_L: best on the market
07:41 PM rue_mohr: I think its a slimer one
07:41 PM Tom_L: it lasted ~35 yrs
07:41 PM rue_mohr: and the float isn't part of mine
07:41 PM Tom_L: switch rubber seal leaks and i've changed a few switches out
07:41 PM Tom_L: mine has the side float which it better than the arm type
07:42 PM rue_mohr: I have a independant float switch that has an inline plug doodad
07:42 PM rue_mohr: souce -> float -> pump
07:42 PM Tom_L: i know
07:42 PM Tom_L: i have a smaller one of these too for the gray water sump
07:43 PM rue_mohr: with the alternating relay it will be source -> float -> relay -> pumps
07:44 PM rue_mohr: I think the hysteresis is about 24" of water
07:44 PM Tom_L: i got some flex pipe for the small one and use that to drain the above ground swimming pool when we had one
07:44 PM rue_mohr: maybe more
07:44 PM rue_mohr: good water storage for fire season
07:44 PM rue_mohr: in LA
07:44 PM Tom_L: that would have little impact on their problem
07:45 PM rue_mohr: to one house>
07:45 PM rue_mohr: ?
07:45 PM rue_mohr: might be enough water to keep the fire at bay
07:45 PM rue_mohr: how long does the neighbours house burn for?
07:45 PM Tom_L: til it runs out of fuel
07:47 PM Tom_L: i would never visit there let alone live there
07:48 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if the holywood sign burnt down
07:48 PM Tom_L: it's probably metal
07:48 PM Tom_L: i dunno
07:49 PM Tom_L: google AI says it's still there
07:49 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:50 PM Tom_L: The last six miles of the 23.6-mile long iconic sunset boulevard have been consumed by one of the worst fires in the city's history
07:50 PM rue_mohr: it was pretty bad
07:51 PM rue_mohr: you would think after humanity suffered the great fires in brittan, we would all be aware and know how the hell to manage things
07:51 PM Tom_L: drought
07:51 PM Tom_L: if you don't have water you're screwed
07:51 PM rue_mohr: maybe its an extra reason for me to use brick for my new house
07:52 PM rue_mohr: speaking of fires, I shouldn't leave *that* 3d printer running unattended
07:53 PM Tom_L: https://www.newsweek.com/how-lake-mead-water-levels-compare-historic-highs-1982456
07:53 PM Tom_L: you can see lake mead's recent water levels
07:55 PM Tom_L: they've been solving crimes that othewise would never be solved due to it's level
07:55 PM rue_shop2: all good
07:55 PM rue_shop2: heh, yea I saw videos 2-3 years ago
07:55 PM Tom_L: Multiple sets of human remains have been found at Lake Mead, including a body in a barrel, and some of these remains may be connected to the Las Vegas mob.
08:20 PM rue_shop2: yup
