09:21 AM polprog: asembing 2 of the 8051 boards
09:21 AM polprog: the micro soldere ok, did the other side with hot air
09:21 AM polprog: this morning the parts came
09:53 AM polprog: both seem to work
11:07 AM polprog: all components mounted
11:07 AM polprog: now drying from ipa
11:52 AM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/8051/8051recycler/
11:52 AM polprog: photos
11:59 AM aandrew: very nice. You made an assembly error though
12:05 PM polprog: where is it?
12:05 PM polprog: i found a spelling error on the pcb too
12:20 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/8051/8051recycler/recycler.html
12:24 PM rue_mohr: haha a heatsink! nice
12:24 PM polprog: :)
12:24 PM polprog: i gotta go, the headache is killing me
12:24 PM rue_mohr: yea, we will always miss
12:25 PM rue_mohr: awesome
12:25 PM rue_mohr: did you try the link program I did?
12:25 PM polprog: tomorrow ill install the xtal and try to find a blank eeprom for paulmon
12:25 PM rue_mohr: oh cool
12:25 PM polprog: no, do you have anything ready to test? show me
12:25 PM rue_mohr: yea
12:26 PM polprog: i lost the scrollback because i was updating the system
12:26 PM polprog: .log
12:26 PM polprog: c-log got clogged
12:26 PM rue_mohr: https://github.com/ruenahcmohr/8051recyclerPCB/tree/main/code
12:26 PM polprog: ty ty
12:26 PM rue_mohr: https://github.com/ruenahcmohr/8051recyclerPCB/tree/main/code/RGB
12:26 PM polprog: ill be back in a few hours
12:27 PM rue_mohr: I left the hex files in the repo
12:27 PM polprog: great
12:27 PM rue_mohr: oh I left eveything
12:27 PM rue_mohr: ah, whatever
12:27 PM polprog: im short on the winbond flash eeproms...
12:27 PM rue_mohr: any 64-256k rom
12:28 PM rue_mohr: I have the pins hackable for other stuff too
12:28 PM rue_mohr: er
12:28 PM rue_mohr: any 64k-512k rom
12:29 PM rue_mohr: I made the pins hackable, if you compare the 27c512 to another chip, you should find all the hack points needed ready on the pcb
12:38 PM rue_mohr: oh polprog you didn't do the test procedure to know if the 8051 was good before you did the rest of the board did ya...
12:38 PM rue_mohr: hmmm
01:19 PM aandrew: polprog: you clearly but a blink where a bzzt goes
01:36 PM rue_mohr: bzzzt is the power
01:36 PM rue_mohr: maybe he changed it
01:47 PM polprog: rue_mohr: oops
01:47 PM polprog: yeah i didnt...
01:47 PM polprog: i hope they are OK
01:47 PM polprog: maybe ill be able to make one board with a plcc socket to check that
01:48 PM rue_mohr: I have a sequence
01:48 PM polprog: ok, ill resolder it if it's bad
01:48 PM polprog: the problem is i dont think i have any PLCC socketed '51 board that i can use to run tests
01:49 PM rue_mohr: if you put in the 8051 and the crystal, and the reset circuit and the 74373, you can hold the rom hard against the pcb holes with the blink program and see if any of the p1 leds blink
01:49 PM rue_mohr: tho, by then your not an easy-out anyhow
01:49 PM polprog: thats true
01:49 PM rue_mohr: all mine worked +- solder connections
01:49 PM polprog: i could test them with my minipro
01:50 PM rue_mohr: ? ah!
01:50 PM polprog: thats right. if we do rev3 we could make the 8051 pads a bit longer so they stick out from under the package
01:50 PM rue_mohr: :]
01:50 PM rue_mohr: I should add that to my list
01:50 PM rue_mohr: is there room tho?
01:50 PM polprog: might not be
01:51 PM polprog: i thought maybe the rom could be plcc too, but m not sure if you have more DIP [EE]PROMs
01:51 PM polprog: or PLCC ones
01:51 PM rue_mohr: the plcc roms are awkward because you cant pull them out and program them
01:51 PM polprog: true
01:51 PM polprog: well youd need a socket
01:51 PM rue_mohr: thats why I did the 16v8 adapters
01:51 PM rue_mohr: oh duh yea
01:52 PM rue_mohr: I dont have many plcc roms
01:52 PM polprog: most of my EPROMs are the large 020 and 040 variety
01:52 PM rue_mohr: dip switch for program select ;]
01:53 PM polprog: hah
01:53 PM polprog: well, that would take another adapter :D
01:54 PM rue_mohr: I'd like to make a serially programmable ROM board
01:54 PM rue_mohr: need a bus switch, and maybe a ch32 with lots of pins
01:54 PM polprog: lol
01:55 PM rue_mohr: 25 io pins iirc
01:56 PM rue_mohr: well, plus serial 27
01:56 PM rue_mohr: you saw my multisoic carrier?
01:56 PM polprog: yes, it's pretty neat
01:56 PM rue_mohr: I keep wanting one, so I'm not sure what project will use it first
02:00 PM polprog: i should start working on the analog stage for the YIG controller soon
02:00 PM polprog: i think ill just go for an RRIO opamp and 12V in
02:01 PM polprog: the mainboard is gonna have a picopsu installed for +5 and +12V supplies
02:02 PM rue_mohr: picopsu? atx?
02:02 PM polprog: yes
02:03 PM polprog: ill just put a 24 pin ATX socket there
02:03 PM polprog: and this way i can buy whatever fits
02:03 PM polprog: and swap them as i like
02:04 PM rue_mohr: I been really interested in making a brushless motor controller
02:04 PM polprog: i could use a simple variable frequency drive for the peristaltic pump
02:11 PM rue_mohr: my goal is to make a brushless run like a typ dc mtoor
02:11 PM polprog: it's 230V ahh
02:12 PM rue_mohr: heh
02:13 PM polprog: that was supposed to be two messages but i didnt hit enter
02:13 PM polprog: ahh (re: make brushless run like a dc)
02:13 PM polprog: and the pump is 230V
02:13 PM polprog: i could measure the power draw
02:14 PM polprog: but i wonder if i took a 12V ATX power supply, and some beefy mosfets to PWM a 12V 50Hz sine
02:14 PM polprog: and feed that to a 12V lighting transformer from the sec end
02:14 PM polprog: that would give me a 230V sine on the pri
02:14 PM polprog: and i could change the frequency to adjust the pump speed
02:15 PM rue_mohr: old UPS parts?
02:16 PM rue_mohr: (the inverter controller in them sucks)
02:16 PM polprog: i got two ups-en and both work.. dont want to take them apart
02:16 PM polprog: i replaced the batteries in both, never used them ever since
02:16 PM polprog: they dutifully sit there
02:16 PM polprog: unplugged tho
02:16 PM polprog: i should test them soon, or disconnect the lead acid
02:16 PM polprog: so it does not drain it
02:34 PM polprog: installing debian risc-v on the scb
02:34 PM polprog: sbc*
03:22 PM polprog: https://0x0.st/XC0h.png
03:22 PM polprog: :)
03:22 PM polprog: https://0x0.st/XC07.jpg
04:20 PM Tom_L: Trixie, Forky then Sid
04:31 PM rue_mohr: hah cool
04:32 PM rue_mohr: polprog, whats the cpu again?
