04:52 AM rue_mohr: I think it was a global message
10:26 AM polprog: ive seen people who reflowed the balls through the mask
10:26 AM polprog: the mask is a thin layer and heats up quickly
10:26 AM polprog: i think ill assemble the second attempt (i got 10 boards) on the hotplte
10:26 AM polprog: the usual way
10:26 AM polprog: idk why i started with the bottom resistors
10:30 AM rue_mohr: er, yea, plcc has to be first
10:30 AM polprog: ofc
10:30 AM polprog: i need to go get back my battery drill
10:31 AM rue_mohr: I'm off from work, going to get more speed
10:31 AM rue_mohr: sleep
10:31 AM rue_mohr: ...huh
10:31 AM polprog: im making a simple box with a 2p2t switch to control a simple mirror mechanism
10:31 AM polprog: have a good sleep rue_mohr
10:32 AM rue_mohr: CD4053?
10:32 AM polprog: nah, even simpler
10:32 AM polprog: 9V and a 2 pole switch with one middle position
10:32 AM rue_mohr: hahaha a real switch
10:32 AM polprog: yea
10:32 AM * rue_mohr goes to bed
10:32 AM polprog: nite!
03:01 PM aandrew: you might not get all those aliexpress bucks, feds just ordered canada post strike to resolve
03:32 PM rue_mohr: I'v been spending them
03:32 PM rue_mohr: besides, they cant deal with the backlog now
03:32 PM rue_mohr: I'll take them more than 6 months
03:33 PM rue_mohr: the CEO and directors should be fired
03:49 PM aandrew: it's a complicated problem... you've got a crown corporation which is hamstrung by a huge union with very expensive legacy costs and leadership which doesn't seem to understand that the private companies they are trying to compete with don't have the same constraints as Canada Post does
03:49 PM aandrew: the unions are also being unrealistic with their demands, and there's a real stalemate because of it
03:50 PM aandrew: Canada Post needs to stop trying to compete with the couriers and focus on their actual stated mission which is servicing EVERY community with basic mail and package service. Everything else is idiotic. They're not a courier and shouldn't be trying to be one
03:50 PM aandrew: and the unions have to realize that the heyday is over and they can't keep demanding the world from an entity that is in decline
03:51 PM aandrew: at least both sides have one thing right: 7 day delivery is pretty much a requirement
03:52 PM rue_mohr: I think the wage stuff is fair
03:53 PM rue_mohr: I'm pretty sure mail is delivered 3 days a week here, and I'm fine with that
03:54 PM rue_mohr: if I want something somewhere immediatly, I'll put it on the web and give them a link :]
03:54 PM aandrew: salaries/wages sure, I'm taking about pensions, healthcare, and the demand that ONLY full time employees work
03:54 PM rue_mohr: (not applicable to whats important of course)
03:54 PM rue_mohr: you mean all positions would be full time?
03:54 PM rue_mohr: I think all jobs should pay a living wage
03:55 PM rue_mohr: I see lots of single mothers here trying to hold 4 jobs to stay alive
03:55 PM rue_mohr: employers are fixed on making sure employees dont get enough hours to be applicable for benefits
03:55 PM rue_mohr: salvation army was one of them
03:56 PM aandrew: 100% agreed - all full time jobs should pay a living wage. part time is a different area as is student wages etc. Those lines have been seriously muddled.
03:56 PM rue_mohr: hmm
03:56 PM aandrew: and yes, employers playing dirty games is one of the reasons we have some very strict rules around being deemed a contractor or not (something I have very personal experience in defending)
03:58 PM aandrew: I don't know exactly what current wages are but a demand for 22% over 5 years seems pretty ridiculous at first glance. Does anyone you know have that kind of yoy wage increases?
03:58 PM rue_mohr: they are pretty low and probably accounting for the crazy inflation thats been going on
03:58 PM aandrew: all wages should be indexed to inflation as an automatic thing
03:58 PM aandrew: at least that's my opinion
03:59 PM aandrew: otherwise you actually earn less every year
03:59 PM rue_mohr: pretty sure they been at the same wages for about 5 years now
03:59 PM aandrew: inflation isn't 22%
03:59 PM rue_mohr: how much has it gone up in the past 5 years?
03:59 PM aandrew: depends on who you ask of course
04:00 PM rue_mohr: heh, index on a loaf of bread
04:00 PM rue_mohr: so, I worked at London Drugs for a while
04:00 PM rue_mohr: a filler between jobs
04:00 PM rue_mohr: absolute minimum wage
04:01 PM rue_mohr: and they totally capped the hours to prevent benifits
04:01 PM aandrew: google says 2020: +0.7%, 2021: +3.4%, 2022: +6.8%, 2023: +3.9% and 2024 YTD: -0.9%
04:01 PM rue_mohr: I was actually working 3 jobs for a while...
04:01 PM rue_mohr: so its not 22%
04:01 PM rue_mohr: its 22-13%
04:02 PM rue_mohr: about 9% going forward and with reverse compensation
04:02 PM rue_mohr: which sounds a bit conservative
04:02 PM aandrew: I also think the union's got the right idea in pointing out there's a LOT of middle-upper management deadweight, each with 6-fig salaries which can be trimmed to make up some of the loss
04:02 PM rue_mohr: yea!
04:02 PM rue_mohr: topheavy
04:03 PM rue_mohr: when I was working at london drugs, I was seeking out better jobs (obviously)
04:03 PM rue_mohr: and I got a lead for a job as an electricain
04:03 PM aandrew: but CP also has the right idea saying that mail delivery is in DECLINE and in order to stay in the black labour costs need to shrink and more automation/retooling brought in, not increase
04:03 PM rue_mohr: it started at more than $10/hr over the london drugs job
04:04 PM rue_mohr: the automation that CP put in devastated their performance
04:04 PM rue_mohr: to the point they stopped tracking so it wouldn't show
04:05 PM rue_mohr: it was taking over a month for my china parcels to get thru the vancouver sort facility
04:05 PM rue_mohr: they had just automated it
04:06 PM rue_mohr: so, one day I asked one of the other fellows at london drugs, "if tommorow you could get a job that paid $10/hr more than you get now, would you go for it?"
04:06 PM rue_mohr: his answer shocked me
04:06 PM rue_mohr: "no no no no! I been working here for 5 years and JUST got a 10c/hr raise! I'm going up the ladder!!!!"
04:10 PM rue_mohr: polprog, I REALLY LOVE THIS PDF SCRIPT!
09:02 PM VanUnamed: hey rue_mohr
09:02 PM VanUnamed: https://pastebin.com/dqVGuFHp
09:02 PM VanUnamed: do u like it
09:11 PM rue_mohr: I worry about the media stability of crazy-high storage drives
09:12 PM rue_mohr: my current drives are 4T tho...
09:13 PM VanUnamed: now, thsi is the mystery
09:13 PM VanUnamed: https://ibb.co/k2MDtR1
09:13 PM VanUnamed: why it says 2g, when its 4?
09:56 PM rue_mohr: thats the partition size, not the drive size?
09:56 PM rue_mohr: wtf tool is that
09:57 PM rue_mohr: grr I had some stuff in a shed and mice pissed all over it
09:59 PM VanUnamed: rue_mohr: lol
09:59 PM VanUnamed: standard
10:44 PM rue_mohr: I'm lucky, it was all in bags
10:44 PM rue_mohr: I was able to carefully swap out the contents
10:52 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: that's why I'm running RAID6 when I moved from 2T to 4T drives
10:54 PM aandrew: I choose whichever drives have a nice sweet spot for $/TB
11:54 PM rue_mohr: yea, I use mirror
11:54 PM rue_mohr: I got different makes and models
