#garfield Calendar

12:01 AM Tom_L: happy new year
12:14 AM rue_shop3: oh wow, I got forever left to go
12:14 AM rue_shop3: I'll celebrate by having a peice of chocolate
12:14 AM Tom_L: i'll celebrate by going to bed :)
12:15 AM rue_shop3: I get to fix all the things I own
12:15 AM Tom_L: k, i'm goin to sleep
12:15 AM rue_shop3: one of the old amps needs new caps in one of the channels
12:15 AM rue_shop3: gnight
12:15 AM rue_shop3: see you in 2024
12:15 AM Tom_L: it's the same as the last one so far
12:16 AM rue_shop3: when was the last good one?
12:16 AM rue_shop3: I'll need to make an isolator for this one
12:16 AM Tom_L: the year i was building the cnc
12:16 AM rue_shop3: and I can ditch the power supply noise from the computer if I use a USB sound card...
12:17 AM rue_shop3: :]
12:17 AM Tom_L: it was so cold out there the buttons on the pendant were sticking
12:17 AM rue_shop3: erp
12:17 AM Tom_L: probably from the mist coolant settling around
12:17 AM rue_shop3: hah, coolant freezing on the bed
12:17 AM rue_shop3: there is just something wrong with that picture
12:18 AM Tom_L: i turned some heat on but not long enough to warm everything up
01:10 AM rue_mohr: ok, li-ion battery pricing is crazy
01:11 AM rue_mohr: the more you buy, the cheaper it is
01:11 AM rue_mohr: I can but a 12V 100Ah for $300, or, I can buy a 24V 60Ah for $400
01:17 AM rue_mohr: -) ma wifi
01:17 AM rue_mohr: <rue_shop3> -) replace battery in solar yard lights
01:17 AM rue_mohr: <rue_shop2> -) replace battery in shop UPS
01:17 AM rue_mohr: <rue_shop2> -) clean shop bench
03:18 AM rue_mohr: right at newyears there was an earthquake in japan...
04:13 AM Tom_L: huh
04:26 AM VanUnamed: i know that is expensive
04:26 AM VanUnamed: why do you think i'm recoveering laptop 18650/
05:47 AM rue_mohr: it gets more complex
05:48 AM rue_mohr: I
05:48 AM rue_mohr: I'm realizing that if I put a new battery with my existing one, they wont charge close to evenly
05:48 AM rue_mohr: and that a lithium battery wont properly charge with the normal charge circuit of the UPS
07:00 AM polprog: around summer i got a nice 4 way universal charger that can do Liion, NiCD and NiMH batteries
07:00 AM polprog: it has a nice display and can also measure the capacity doing a full cycle on it
07:01 AM polprog: very cool thing, has spring loaded slots so it can take AA, AAA, C, D, and 18650 sizes
07:02 AM polprog: ive been replacing NiCD with Li-ion cells but im never sure about the charging circuit
07:02 AM polprog: what I do is attach a BMS which solves that for me
07:03 AM polprog: the retrofit is easy because 2 series NiCd are roughly 1 Li-ion, and a lot of things has even number of cells
07:03 AM polprog: so like a walkie that has 6 NiCd can run from 3S Li-ion
07:14 AM polprog: the BMS just wants a constant voltage across it and it will regulate the current for each cell
07:14 AM polprog: but I dont think I saw BMSes that huge to replace a ~100 Ah lead acid battery
10:18 AM Tom_L: rue_mohr,
10:18 AM Tom_L: what if
10:18 AM Tom_L: ?
10:19 AM Tom_L: we make the coil .250" ID and reverse the coil and put it inside like the V _IF_ the V is a fail?
10:19 AM Tom_L: i got a program.. testing once it warms a bit
12:29 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Coil_spring1.jpg
12:29 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Coil_spring2.jpg
12:29 PM Tom_L: first attempt
12:41 PM aandrew: happy new year guys
12:48 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, part of my hesitation is just in rocking the boat, I'm not enough people to deal with a bunch of repairs if a few idea does't work out and they all come back for fixing
12:56 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Coil_spring3.jpg
12:56 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Coil_spring4.jpg
12:56 PM Tom_L: i wound it reverse to see if it would tuck into the holder better
12:57 PM Tom_L: we're just trying to simplify the process is all
12:58 PM Tom_L: like i said before, you have to help it over the first winding or it starts wrapping around it instead of on top
12:58 PM rue_mohr: and it looks like I made a whole batch of springs that had a bit of a wrong take-off
12:58 PM rue_mohr: that said, I see another difference
12:58 PM rue_mohr: the spring you have is made with the old mandrill
12:58 PM rue_mohr: the image is the new one
12:59 PM rue_mohr: the difference is that the old one started the spring with a hold-down screw
12:59 PM Tom_L: i didn't measure the spring, just the space between the bends
12:59 PM Tom_L: nothing holds mine in the fixture it just wraps around the pin but i have to help it over the first bump
01:00 PM rue_mohr: yea the take-off from that tight side is the issue with my new springs
01:00 PM Tom_L: i'll make a video in a while
01:00 PM rue_mohr: if its not right, the spring doesn't fold-away quite right
01:00 PM rue_mohr: hmm
01:00 PM Tom_L: would winding the way i did help that?
01:00 PM rue_mohr: I need to wake up
01:00 PM Tom_L: cw instead of ccw
01:01 PM rue_mohr: we do not want to reverse it
01:01 PM Tom_L: i did on mine
01:01 PM Tom_L: but i can fix that easy
01:01 PM rue_mohr: they immidiatly had issue on some sprayers we did with reversed springs
01:01 PM Tom_L: now that i have the fixture i can wrap it any way we need
01:02 PM rue_mohr: I think its cause they stick the sprayers in tight holes sometimes to paint what they do
01:02 PM Tom_L: but mine is on a .250 dowel instead of 8mm
01:02 PM rue_mohr: :) I'm waking up
01:02 PM rue_mohr: oh shoot, the shop is a disaster
01:02 PM rue_mohr: I have all the plate material in the way of everything
01:03 PM Tom_L: i had to redo the fixture, the first time i got the holes too close together
01:03 PM rue_mohr: I need to move it to another shed
01:04 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I have some thick aluminum plate I can use to try your fixtures
01:04 PM Tom_L: looking at mine, does the alignment look ok on the start/end?
01:04 PM Tom_L: take the tab press and drill a couple holes in it
01:04 PM Tom_L: it can do double duty
01:04 PM Tom_L: i think
01:05 PM Tom_L: i dunno if i kept those models though
01:05 PM rue_mohr: its hard to tell, I have to look a lot more at the new springs that I was having issues with to understand the suble difference that seems to be causing an issue
01:05 PM rue_mohr: but I cant do anything in the shop till I get all the plate material put somewhere
01:05 PM Tom_L: find one that works and i can reproduce it
01:05 PM Tom_L: is the mandrel 8mm?
01:06 PM rue_mohr: I think my goal was to make a mount for the current mandrill
01:06 PM Tom_L: right
01:06 PM rue_mohr: -) ma wifi
01:06 PM Tom_L: but i wanna get the same size dowel
01:06 PM rue_mohr: -) replace battery in solar yard lights
01:06 PM rue_mohr: -) replace battery in shop UPS
01:06 PM rue_mohr: -) clean shop bench
01:06 PM rue_mohr: those are not the right things...
01:07 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, oh gad, here is another wire thing tho
01:07 PM rue_mohr: its not for sprayers, its for a wire clip for ma...
01:07 PM rue_mohr: I'll have to find the drawing
01:08 PM rue_mohr: but where is that other list
01:08 PM rue_mohr: "tommorow I can make a holder for the mandrill"
01:09 PM Tom_L: is the mandrel 8mm?
01:09 PM rue_mohr: heh, I miss newyears countdown on irc :(
01:09 PM rue_mohr: yes and no
01:09 PM Tom_L: is it yes or is it no?
01:10 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1300502.jpg
01:10 PM rue_mohr: it was 8mm dia, and 12mm long
01:10 PM rue_mohr: to the shoulder
01:27 PM Tom_L: 12mm to the bend?
01:27 PM rue_mohr: that 8mm section is 12mm long on my mandrill
01:27 PM Tom_L: oh yeah you told me that part
01:27 PM rue_mohr: the distance between the legs is 1 lineman-pliers distance
01:28 PM Tom_L: i thought you were talking about the new modified spring
01:28 PM Tom_L: that distance isn't critical
01:28 PM rue_mohr: ok I'll have a shower and breakfast, I think I'll move the plate to the shed
01:28 PM rue_mohr: then I can get to the bench to work on things
01:29 PM Tom_L: i'm done experimenting for now until you're ready to make the real one
01:29 PM Tom_L: i figured out i can bend wire
01:36 PM rue_mohr: buddy arrived, moving the plate should go faster
01:36 PM Tom_L: yay
01:50 PM rue_mohr: https://github.com/openscad/openscad/pull/4533
02:26 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XLpwVbrxuA
02:29 PM Tom_L: the tool needs a groove in the bottom to guide the wire then i'd program a helix instead of just arcs
02:30 PM Tom_L: i'll get some bigger pins to try
04:10 PM rue_shop2: :]
04:14 PM Tom_L: looks quite doable
04:14 PM Tom_L: with a groove in the pin to guide it and a helix instead it can probably be done unattended
04:15 PM Tom_L: i'll speed it up once i test a helix with the groove
04:21 PM Tom_L: turn a pin with a .055 half groove in it at the very end
04:35 PM Tom_L: actual piano wire would be stronger
04:36 PM Tom_L: #24 is .055" #25 is .059"
04:57 PM rue_shop2: 0.055
04:57 PM rue_shop2: its music wire
05:05 PM Tom_L: i can get 5lb rolls if you run out
05:06 PM rue_shop2: hah
05:06 PM rue_shop2: its one of those supplies wehre every time we go to buy some, the last place is out of busin ess
05:06 PM Tom_L: i bet this stuff is higher quality
05:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Guide_pin.jpg
05:08 PM Tom_L: make one of those
05:09 PM Tom_L: close to the end as you can but still have the full diameter on the tip
06:07 PM rue_mohr: ok, guests are gone
06:08 PM Tom_L: getting ready to run the helix code
06:08 PM rue_mohr: the plate metal was moved out, so there is work room again
06:09 PM rue_mohr: I'm just eating and I can work on the mandrill mount
06:09 PM Tom_L: did you see the pin i ground?
06:09 PM rue_mohr: been entertaining guests for hours now
06:09 PM Tom_L: k, out for a test run
06:10 PM rue_mohr: ah, watching the video
06:11 PM rue_mohr: it snags if you dont give the pin a lift?
06:12 PM rue_mohr: with the groove, yea, I could make one of those up
06:15 PM Tom_L: yes it snags and tries to make a flat coil
06:18 PM Tom_L: the cad somehow lost it's orientation during my testing so i had to figure out how much i moved the model
06:18 PM Tom_L: i screwed up the first hole set so i had to move it all and redrill them
06:19 PM Tom_L: i must not have saved the move :)
06:19 PM rue_mohr: almost worth noting that flat coil thing
06:25 PM Tom_L: ?
06:26 PM Tom_L: ran good i just gotta back the tool out from the spring back a little more so it doesn't hook on it
06:28 PM rue_mohr: ok, finished eating
06:28 PM Tom_L: as we speak..
06:29 PM Tom_L: one more bite
06:30 PM Tom_L: seems everything that can go wrong on this has.
06:30 PM Tom_L: i forgot i can only program a helix in 360 deg increments
06:31 PM Tom_L: i figured that out when i wrote my single point thread macro
06:44 PM Tom_L: pics..
06:53 PM rue_shop2: I need to be a robot so I can just get basic things done
06:53 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lonf4ypINVM
06:53 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Coil_spring6.jpg
06:53 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Coil_spring7.jpg
06:54 PM Tom_L: out of focus at the start
06:55 PM rue_shop3: wow that looks so cool
06:55 PM Tom_L: they will ALL turn out the same
06:55 PM Tom_L: :)
06:55 PM rue_shop3: yea!
06:56 PM rue_shop3: ok I need to find some material to make a mount
06:56 PM Tom_L: inspired?
06:56 PM rue_shop3: guests eat up lots of time :)
06:56 PM Tom_L: yeah i know
06:56 PM rue_shop3: ma says I need to phone and talk with the relatives more
06:56 PM Tom_L: mine is .250 pin but i can make one just like it for yours
06:57 PM rue_shop3: sitting on the phone talking about nothing for half an hour isn't my thing
06:57 PM Tom_L: i don't do it
06:57 PM rue_shop3: let me get my mandrill mounted
06:57 PM rue_shop3: I kinda should
06:57 PM Tom_L: get busy!
06:57 PM rue_shop3: Its like being tied down to posts in the desert, so..
07:00 PM rue_shop3: distraction, I think someone put a bell on a wild animal thats in the bush...
07:01 PM Tom_L: must not be too wild or they wouldn't get close enough
07:04 PM rue_shop3: if there is, I cant find it
07:04 PM rue_shop3: sounded like a bell attached to an animal scratching
07:05 PM Tom_L: huh
07:05 PM rue_shop3: anyhow, I found a good chunk of steel
07:09 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1300521.jpg
07:10 PM rue_mohr: your not aware of that being anything incredibly rare are ya?
07:10 PM rue_mohr: looks like a lock pin for something
07:20 PM Tom_L: no idea
07:25 PM Tom_L: you sure that's your bench?
07:25 PM Tom_L: hard to tell all uncluttered
07:28 PM rue_shop3: its got holes now
07:34 PM rue_shop3: ok tom, it only took me 2 days
07:35 PM Tom_L: ready to make a program?
07:44 PM rue_shop3: I tried to get the camera to show you
07:45 PM rue_shop3: but the cats wanted in, food, out, in and out again
07:45 PM rue_shop3: I'll try again
07:46 PM rue_mohr: so, please realize I cannot verify if the new spring, either way, will be any good till I'v built a head and tested it, and that takes 5 hours of time I hardly have
07:48 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1300524.jpg
07:49 PM rue_mohr: I realized it would be good to use a pin in the spindle thats a size I have a collette for
07:50 PM rue_mohr: what size did you use then, 1/4"?
07:50 PM rue_mohr: or did you bring that up a bit
07:50 PM rue_mohr: I get from you that you used 1/4
07:50 PM Tom_L: yes
07:51 PM Tom_L: interruptions
07:51 PM Tom_L: you know what those are?
07:51 PM rue_mohr: I can also turn that mandrill as req'd
07:51 PM rue_mohr: heh
07:51 PM Tom_L: ok so you can center that and zero on the top?
07:51 PM rue_mohr: I could get all the things done if it weren't for having to eat and sleep and stuff
07:51 PM rue_mohr: yes
07:52 PM Tom_L: and how much Z is left?
07:52 PM Tom_L: you may have to shorten the peg
07:52 PM rue_mohr: how deep did you make the groove in your pin?
07:52 PM rue_mohr: I have lots fo Z left
07:52 PM Tom_L: not very
07:52 PM rue_mohr: ok
07:52 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Guide_pin.jpg
07:52 PM rue_mohr: do I need to worry about the distance fro the end?
07:52 PM Tom_L: i tried for half the .055" diameter
07:52 PM Tom_L: half moon
07:52 PM rue_mohr: ok
07:53 PM rue_mohr: so 27 thou-ish
07:53 PM rue_mohr: in a 1/4" pin
07:53 PM Tom_L: but mine is a little wider but works ok
07:53 PM Tom_L: .050 wide and half that deep
07:53 PM Tom_L: approx
07:53 PM Tom_L: just enough so the wire grips it and stays put
07:53 PM Tom_L: not much at all
07:53 PM Tom_L: but it needs to be as close to the end and still have a full radius on the end
07:54 PM Tom_L: not quite knife edge but maybe .015"
07:54 PM Tom_L: i can program any pin you use
07:54 PM Tom_L: just gotta know the dimensions
07:55 PM Tom_L: i'll start on your mandrel with a .250 pin then
07:56 PM Tom_L: 12mm deep right?
07:57 PM rue_shop3: yes
07:57 PM Tom_L: we will run the first test with no tool
07:57 PM Tom_L: :)
07:57 PM rue_shop3: I'll see if I can make up a plastic one for a dry run
07:57 PM Tom_L: no need
07:57 PM Tom_L: just eyeball it
07:59 PM Tom_L: 12mm is .4724409" right?
08:01 PM rue_shop2: root@blackie3:/zipfiles/programming/javascript/draw# units 12mm inch
08:01 PM rue_shop2: * 0.47244094
08:01 PM rue_shop2: ugh, why is my 3 jaw so off-center...
08:01 PM rue_shop2: grrrrr
08:03 PM Tom_L: wire is .055"?
08:12 PM Tom_L: when you mount the mandrel the .055 hole is to the right in X
08:29 PM rue_shop3: got the chuck within a thou of center
08:29 PM rue_shop3: didn't expect to hit it that good
08:29 PM rue_shop3: wire is 0.055"
08:29 PM rue_shop3: ok
08:29 PM rue_shop3: hmm I forgot about the 12mm when I cut the pin to length...
08:29 PM rue_shop3: should still be ok
08:29 PM rue_shop3: about 3/4" of grab
08:30 PM Tom_L: i need to know from Z0 to the step
08:33 PM Tom_L: ok i'm ready i just need that step dimension
08:33 PM Tom_L: .250" groove tool
08:35 PM rue_shop3: hole to the right (+x)
08:35 PM rue_shop3: ok
08:35 PM rue_shop3: found some 1/4" plastic and did a testing pin
08:35 PM Tom_L: ccw wind
08:35 PM Tom_L: no need
08:35 PM rue_shop3: z0 tot he step is -12mm
08:35 PM Tom_L: it will work
08:35 PM rue_shop3: hahah
08:35 PM rue_shop3: I wonder how many times that been said in the history of CNC
08:36 PM Tom_L: how does grbl handle helix?
08:36 PM rue_shop3: I dont know
08:36 PM Tom_L: we'll find out soon
08:36 PM rue_shop3: lets find out
08:36 PM rue_shop3: I'll set it an inch over for the first dry run
08:36 PM Tom_L: chicken
08:36 PM rue_shop3: nc file?
08:38 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Helix_spring_rue.txt
08:38 PM Tom_L: center top of mandrel is everything zero
08:38 PM rue_shop3: yup
08:39 PM Tom_L: i may need to repost that for grbl
08:39 PM Tom_L: try it
08:40 PM rue_shop3: love to, just ahve to remember how to connect to it
08:40 PM rue_shop3: there is a command I pasted a lot
08:40 PM rue_shop3: I need it
08:41 PM Tom_L: it may work as is, if not i can do grbl post
08:41 PM Tom_L: it's pretty simple
08:41 PM rue_shop3: no, its a really complex command
08:41 PM rue_shop3: I dont even remember the name, no less the options
08:41 PM Tom_L: for what?
08:41 PM rue_shop3: connecting to the cnc
08:42 PM rue_shop3: I pasted the command a lot
08:42 PM Tom_L: that would be good to know
08:43 PM Tom_L: it may not like the tool length offset H word
08:43 PM rue_shop3: I cant find the command
08:45 PM Tom_L: grab the file now, it's grbl
08:46 PM rue_shop3: socat pty,link=/dev/ttySEther,raw,echo=0 tcp:192.168.9.14:44
08:48 PM rue_shop3: ok, connected
08:48 PM Tom_L: that's a mouthfull
08:48 PM rue_shop3: trying to engineer that line takes an afternoon
08:48 PM Tom_L: better not forget it
08:48 PM Tom_L: haha
08:48 PM rue_shop3: its documented more now
08:49 PM Tom_L: posted on twitter too?
08:50 PM rue_shop3: hah no
08:51 PM rue_shop3: doesn't like %
08:51 PM rue_shop3: huh
08:51 PM rue_shop3: N3 T9 M06 (0.25 .250 ROUGHING END MILL 3 FLUTE) error: Unsupported command
08:51 PM Tom_L: get rid of the comment
08:51 PM rue_shop3: is that important
08:51 PM Tom_L: it's the tool number
08:51 PM rue_shop3: N3 T9 M06 error: Unsupported command
08:52 PM rue_shop3: ok
08:52 PM Tom_L: and start spindle cw
08:52 PM rue_shop3: hey wtf M03
08:52 PM Tom_L: err no, that's a tool change M6
08:52 PM Tom_L: i thought we went thru the grbl and ok'd it
08:52 PM rue_shop3: M3 S0 still starts my spindle
08:52 PM rue_shop3: whats spindle off again
08:53 PM Tom_L: M5 iirc
08:53 PM Tom_L: M5 or M 4
08:53 PM rue_shop3: 5
08:53 PM Tom_L: so just get rid of that line
08:53 PM rue_shop3: N6 G43 Z0.3 H09 error: Unsupported command
08:53 PM Tom_L: S0 M03
08:53 PM rue_shop3: changed it from M3 to M5
08:53 PM Tom_L: i said to grab the new grbl file!!!
08:53 PM rue_shop3: oh , same name?
08:54 PM Tom_L: yes
08:54 PM Tom_L: i know you didn't because of the H word
08:54 PM Tom_L: and get rid of line 3
08:54 PM Tom_L: S0 M03
08:54 PM Tom_L: for this
08:56 PM rue_shop3: ok
08:56 PM rue_shop3: gonna watch it on the run again
08:57 PM rue_shop3: ok, completely flying test seems ok
08:58 PM rue_shop3: ok, dry run with plastic pin
09:00 PM rue_shop3: ? do you have a LOT of clearance between the pin and the OD of the spring?
09:00 PM Tom_L: .055 approx
09:00 PM rue_shop3: something seems off
09:00 PM Tom_L: no, it's going to wind the spring
09:00 PM Tom_L: it will be right against it
09:00 PM rue_shop3: its seems to be clearing the 8mm pin by "too much"
09:01 PM rue_shop3: but, its way out there
09:01 PM Tom_L: inch or metric?
09:01 PM Tom_L: lemme do some checking
09:01 PM Tom_L: you can help
09:02 PM Tom_L: 8mm pin + .125 for half the tool diameter
09:02 PM Tom_L: what's that number?
09:02 PM rue_shop3: looks like its clearing the outside of the coil by an extra 0.055
09:02 PM Tom_L: i get .4399606
09:03 PM Tom_L: i thought i figured that right
09:03 PM rue_shop3: I get the radius should be .282inches
09:03 PM Tom_L: no, i'm off on that number
09:03 PM Tom_L: gimme a few
09:04 PM Tom_L: .4724 - .43996 is what?
09:05 PM rue_shop3: |<--8mm pin-->|O)<--1/4"-0.11--->(
09:05 PM Tom_L: no that's not right either
09:05 PM rue_shop3: calc .4724 - .43996
09:05 PM rue_shop3: .4724 -->> 0.4724
09:05 PM rue_shop3: where O is the 0.055" wire
09:05 PM Tom_L: just a sec
09:06 PM rue_shop3: |<--0.3149" pin-->|O)<--1/4"-0.11--->(
09:07 PM Tom_L: i took the 8mm diameter instead of radius
09:07 PM Tom_L: one sec
09:07 PM rue_shop3: |<--0.3149" pin-->|O)<--0.14"--->(
09:07 PM Tom_L: i think that was it
09:08 PM rue_shop3: calc "(0.3149/2)+0.055+(0.14/2)"
09:08 PM rue_shop3: (0.3149/2)+0.055+(0.14/2) -->> 0.28245
09:08 PM rue_shop3: oh no
09:08 PM rue_shop3: I did the spindle pin wrong
09:09 PM rue_shop3: |<--0.3149" pin-->|O)<--0.195"--->(
09:09 PM rue_shop3: calc "(0.3149/2)+0.055+(0.195/2)"
09:09 PM rue_shop3: (0.3149/2)+0.055+(0.195/2) -->> 0.30995
09:09 PM Tom_L: i get .337480
09:10 PM Tom_L: radius
09:10 PM Tom_L: for the tool path
09:10 PM Tom_L: tool center
09:10 PM rue_shop3: so lets doublecheck
09:10 PM rue_shop3: the pin is 8mm of .3149
09:10 PM rue_shop3: then we have the wire at 0.055
09:10 PM Tom_L: .157480
09:10 PM Tom_L: 8mm radius
09:10 PM rue_shop3: the pin is 8mm dia
09:10 PM Tom_L: + the whole .055
09:11 PM Tom_L: + half the spindle pin .125"
09:11 PM rue_shop3: oh I got ya
09:11 PM Tom_L: right?
09:11 PM rue_shop3: the spindle pin is 0.25 - 0.055
09:11 PM rue_shop3: (the groove)
09:11 PM Tom_L: we don't care about the groove
09:11 PM rue_shop3: which is calc 0.25-0.055
09:11 PM rue_shop3: 0.25-0.055 -->> 0.195
09:11 PM rue_shop3: ok
09:12 PM rue_shop3: calc "(0.3149/2)+0.055+(0.25/2)"
09:12 PM rue_shop3: (0.3149/2)+0.055+(0.25/2) -->> 0.33745
09:12 PM rue_shop3: so yes
09:12 PM rue_shop3: and we clear by the depth of the pin groove
09:12 PM rue_shop3: radius .337~
09:13 PM rue_shop3: crap
09:13 PM rue_shop3: typo, I did g00 X0
09:13 PM rue_shop3: my plastic pin went flying across the room
09:13 PM Tom_L: hah
09:14 PM rue_shop3: (it was plexiglass
09:14 PM rue_shop3: )
09:14 PM Tom_L: i'm almost done
09:15 PM Tom_L: ok dl fresh copy
09:17 PM Tom_L: you gotta raise Z above 0 to be safe
09:18 PM Tom_L: i give it .3" above
09:18 PM rue_shop3: roughly looking good, just gonna do a part-way check again (this is how I broke the pin)
09:19 PM rue_shop3: yes, thats looking good
09:19 PM rue_shop3: see if I can put the official pin in and make a blank
09:20 PM Tom_L: you saw how i loaded the wire?
09:20 PM Tom_L: just stuff it in the hole all the way down
09:22 PM Tom_L: be sure to reset Z0
09:27 PM rue_shop3: yep, its all reset
09:27 PM rue_shop3: blank made
09:27 PM rue_shop3: armed with real pin
09:28 PM rue_shop3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lonf4ypINVM
09:28 PM rue_shop3: that vid is last right?
09:29 PM Tom_L: yeah
09:30 PM rue_shop3: all looks , good, have before photo, here goes!....wait
09:31 PM rue_shop3: whats the command for a 5 second delay?
09:31 PM Tom_L: umm dwell
09:31 PM Tom_L: just a sec
09:32 PM Tom_L: G4
09:32 PM rue_shop3: looks like... G4 P5000 ?
09:32 PM Tom_L: G4 P0.5
09:32 PM Tom_L: 1/2 sec
09:32 PM rue_shop3: ok
09:33 PM rue_shop3: 1/2sec or 1/2msec?
09:33 PM Tom_L: sec
09:33 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/gcode/g-code.html#gcode:g4
09:33 PM Tom_L: G4 P0.5 (wait for 0.5 seconds before proceeding)
09:35 PM rue_shop3: nice!
09:35 PM Tom_L: :)
09:35 PM Tom_L: right position when done?
09:35 PM Tom_L: springback ok?
09:35 PM rue_shop3: here is the great part, it needs another few degrees
09:35 PM Tom_L: how many?
09:36 PM Tom_L: that's pretty easy
09:36 PM rue_shop3: yea, looks like +45 degrees
09:36 PM rue_shop3: I'm gonna post the video
09:36 PM Tom_L: 45 more?
09:37 PM rue_shop3: yep
09:37 PM Tom_L: you sure?
09:37 PM rue_shop3: mostly
09:37 PM Tom_L: mine came out right at 2 coils
09:37 PM rue_shop3: the exit should be right over the entry
09:38 PM Tom_L: is your hole right on the X axis zero?
09:38 PM Tom_L: right side
09:38 PM Tom_L: i mean
09:38 PM rue_shop3: yup, I'm posting stuff, ... hold on
09:39 PM Tom_L: i'll add 30 and see
09:40 PM rue_mohr: cool win tho
09:40 PM Tom_L: grab that file
09:40 PM Tom_L: try one more
09:41 PM rue_mohr: posting media...
09:41 PM Tom_L: quicker than the way you were doing it?
09:42 PM rue_mohr: consistancy
09:44 PM rue_mohr: https://youtu.be/G2HqOZ1vws0
09:45 PM Tom_L: your wire is stiffer
09:45 PM Tom_L: alot more springback
09:45 PM Tom_L: that's the extra degrees
09:46 PM Tom_L: when it backs off, maybe i should add a little more distance there
09:47 PM Tom_L: pretty cool though ehh?
09:48 PM Tom_L: your wire hole is a little looser than mine too
09:49 PM rue_mohr: yea!!!
09:49 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna make 2 edits
09:50 PM rue_mohr: were doing great at making the machines do odd stuff
09:50 PM Tom_L: then you try it
09:51 PM rue_mohr: using it as cnc lathe was cute too
09:51 PM rue_mohr: I'm intested in doing more with that
09:54 PM Tom_L: ok grab that and try it
09:55 PM Tom_L: that should move the spindle out of the way to remove the spring easier
09:55 PM Tom_L: if it doesn't, remove the G53 G00 Z0 line at the bottom
09:56 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1300525.jpg
09:56 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1300527.jpg
09:56 PM rue_mohr: some cleaner images
09:57 PM rue_mohr: I'll make another blank, give me a few minutes
09:57 PM Tom_L: did that last one give you enough rotation?
09:57 PM rue_mohr: I'v just done the one, and fed the cat and had a cookie
09:57 PM rue_mohr: and posted the vidoes
09:57 PM Tom_L: ok, grab the new file then and try it
09:57 PM Tom_L: it will have all the edits
09:59 PM rue_shop3: I should submit a bug with grbl that M03 S0 switches the spingle on
10:00 PM Tom_L: it's supposed to
10:00 PM rue_shop3: S0?
10:00 PM rue_shop3: would be off
10:00 PM Tom_L: oh, no
10:00 PM rue_shop3: yea
10:00 PM Tom_L: what rpm??
10:01 PM Tom_L: that's a definite bug
10:03 PM rue_shop3: ok, wont tape this one...
10:04 PM Tom_L: that's fine. i know what it looks like :)
10:05 PM Tom_L: yeah , get rid of that G53 G00 Z0 line at the bottom
10:05 PM Tom_L: that makes the spindle go back down
10:05 PM rue_shop3: ???
10:05 PM rue_shop3: it still needs like another 45 degrees
10:05 PM Tom_L: i set all mine above the part but this one is the top of the part
10:05 PM Tom_L: did you load the right file?
10:05 PM Tom_L: i added 30deg to it
10:06 PM rue_shop3: ? it came out the same
10:06 PM rue_shop3: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Helix_spring_rue.txt right?
10:06 PM Tom_L: yeah
10:06 PM rue_shop3: ?
10:06 PM Tom_L: lemme look for sure
10:06 PM rue_shop3: idenical
10:07 PM Tom_L: refresh?
10:07 PM rue_shop3: hah I need to go to bed soon
10:07 PM rue_shop3: I used wget, it cant cache
10:07 PM Tom_L: should be a Z1.0 on line 15
10:07 PM rue_shop3: yup
10:07 PM Tom_L: need 45 more?
10:07 PM rue_shop3: yea...
10:07 PM Tom_L: i'll fix it tomorrow
10:08 PM rue_shop3: np
10:08 PM rue_shop3: looks like its really really late for ya tonight
10:08 PM Tom_L: that's 105deg past the start point
10:09 PM rue_shop3: its odd too
10:10 PM rue_shop3: cause my instructions are to "give the spring 2 full turns and realease to let springback take the final position"
10:10 PM rue_shop3: but you seemed to do 720 in total
10:11 PM rue_shop3: the G03 commands seem to make sense
10:18 PM Tom_L: nearly fixed
10:19 PM rue_mohr: heh, I closed up the shop
10:21 PM Tom_L: you can grab it anyway
10:22 PM Tom_L: i bet that's almost too much angle
10:22 PM rue_mohr: I have the command in this history of the other machine that gets the file to the folder and renames it, so I'll grab it later :]
10:23 PM Tom_L: i had to calculate the rise over the degrees. .055 for 360 deg
10:23 PM rue_mohr: like you said, there is a lot of springback
10:23 PM Tom_L: yeah
10:23 PM Tom_L: i took out that last line too
10:23 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:23 PM Tom_L: the G53 one
10:24 PM Tom_L: it should be pretty close
10:24 PM Tom_L: i could make it dance when the part is done...
10:27 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:27 PM rue_mohr: victory dance
10:29 PM Tom_L: lemme know if that's right now
10:29 PM Tom_L: i'm headin to bed
10:43 PM rue_mohr: the pinch factor on this thing is spooky, but its no more dangerous than with a spinning blade, so , huh
10:47 PM Tom_L: well don't stick your digits in there
10:50 PM Tom_L: we had to calculate spring back on those hydropress blocks we made but it was only like 2-3 degrees
10:50 PM Tom_L: for forming sheet aluminum
10:55 PM Tom_L: https://macrodynepress.com/hydraulic-presses/hydroforming-presses/
10:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Boxes.jpg
10:58 PM Tom_L: that's probably how those were formed
10:58 PM Tom_L: i used one of those for my pendant
10:58 PM rue_mohr: mmm
10:59 PM Tom_L: really soft aluminum
11:30 PM rue_mohr: are those 1 pass or a few?
